It's the Itemfinder.
so what does it do that makes it so diferent from the itemfinder that they had to give it a new name?
It actually tells you where the item is. You'll see circles pointing you to the direction where the item is (on one of the quarters of the screen) and a blinking dot where the actual item is if you're near it. The old Itemfinder only told you "that there was an item lying near".
I found the Dousing Machine quite weird to use at first, as soon as I found out you could actually get the Suite Key, I went out to the Hotel & looked for it with the Dousing Machine, it was quite confusing though.
I guess it's still way better than the itemfinder though. The Pokétch is unbelievably handy in this game.

i quite like the dousing machine
its original and really easy to use once you get used to it
if you think that the lava cookie is disappointing, remember that its come all the way from hoenn- quite a trip for a biscuit... i hope it was sealed in airtight packaging.....

I can't find it either, can anyone give more precise directions?
You've been given precise directions already. -_- Go to the Lake Valor Resort area. Go to the Resort Lake Hotel (that big building where they have a bed and you can rest your Pokemon). Exit on the north entrance. Use your dowsing App here. look all over the place just outside the building. It's there. You just have to locate it.
This is in my Item FAQ. It's all over this thread. What's so hard about it?

Does it really matter if you deem it worthess or not? It's great for the people who appreciate the nostalgia, it's useless to people who only need to use full heals and pokecenters.
