Summer 2012 Anime Season

Blivsey

DATA_ERROR
Summer 2012 Anime Season Chart

The summer season picks up in just a few weeks. In this thread, note what you plan to be watching, discuss the new round of shows, and get hyped up for the next few months.

Personally, I'm looking to pick up Sword Art Online since I was so impressed by Accel World. Speaking of which, I'll be carrying over Accel World and Hyouka from last season, as well. Being busy with my summer job will give me an excuse to wait a few weeks for opinions to settle in before investigating reviews and picking up a fourth, though I do have my eye on a few. Also looking forward to some of the OVA releases, including the "true ending" of Persona4.

Charizard Champion#06

Spiral Warrior
Eurekaa Seven Ao and Hyouka are staying from last season. Still not sure if Hunter X Hunter and Space Bros are still going.

Not watching Yuruyuri because I didn't watch season 1.

Sword Art Online's image is bugging me. WHY DO THEY HAVE THE SAME FACE?!

Tari Tari has me kind of wanting to watch it just because of P.A. Works. The show itself doesn't seem too interesting though. Hm...

That's about all I'm interested in right now which is good because by the end of the season chances are I'll have gained 3 or 4 new shows.

Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse - Ono Daisuke main role, must watch
Yuru Yuri 2 - I loved the first season, and my body is ready for more Kyouko
Sword Art Online - Watching it purely because it's A-1 Pictures
Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate - I enjoyed the VN, and I quite liked the only two shows AIC Build have animated so far
Ebiten: Kouritsu Ebisugawa Koukou Tenmon-Bu - Character designs are Seitokai no Ichizon look-a-likes, hopefully it's just as good
Tari Tari - It's P.A. Works, and the art reminds me of Hanasaku Iroha
Kokoro Connect - Those K-ON look-a-like character designs have sucked me in

So 1991
Just for fun I will comment on every one of them:

Kingdom: Japan sure loves it's historical period entertainment. This time it's about China.

Pokemon: It's been running for years, I don't have much to say.

Muv-Luv: Cyberborgs are cool but they lost me at "based off an adult simulation game
Chouyaki Hyakunin Isshu: Oya Koi: Interesting idea. Probably not my cup of tea, but at least it stands out.

Yuruyuri: It's based on school girls. Such an underused premise.

Natsuyuki Rendevous: It's looks like a shojo. Could be worth a watch.

Moyashimon Returns: Sequel to an anime I am only somewhat familiar with.

Sword Art Online: A player trapped in an mmo. Everquest hit it big over a decade ago, so last decade.

Koi to Semkyo to Chocolate: Also based on an adult game, but it doesn't look as tacky as muv-luv.

Dakara Boku wa, H Da Dekini: Sex and Magic. Yawn.

Dog Days': Boy sent to fanstasy land to save it. At least its not a cliche exclusive to Japan.

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon II: sci-fi. cool. school kids. uncool.

Oda Nobuna no Yabou: Historical anime with modern day kid in it. Where have I heard that before. (look above)

Binbou-gami ga!: Another magical/supernatural comedy. It could be okay, could be terrible.

Hakuouki:Reimei Roku: I don't know what it is. Probably samurai stuff.

Eniten something something: Otaku love it when they are referenced in the anime they watch. This time its about girl otaku. Hopefully the intended audience is also girl otaku. (I doubt it)

Tari Tari: Sentimental ********.

Kono Naka no Hitori something something: when was incest officially added to the list of otaku fetishes?

Campione: A boy who fights ****.

Kokoro Connect: The picture makes it look shitty, but the premise seems to be a decent romantic comedy set-up. Could be worth a shot.

Hagure Yuusha no Estetica: Could be good if it doesn't take its silly premise too seriously.

Riine no Lagrange: Another giant robot anime. Because they sell model kits.

Joshiraku: who thought this premise sounded even remotely entertaining?

La Storia della Arcana Famiglia: At the least the art style looks okay.

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita: Fairies is fairly untapped concept. Too bad I don't know whats it about.

Aruvu Rezuru: something something: People traveling in cyberspace. Like the mmo concept, that is so last millenium.

Chitose Get You: kiddy art style with faded colors. Simple easy to describe premise. Probably intended for children. I expect this to be the best anime this season.

Just like the last who know how many seasons, I can't really say I care about anything too much.

Ebiten is a shounen, so the target audience definitely isn't female.

I plan to watch the new yuru yuri, however I still need to watch the first one, which I plan to do sooner or later.
I may watch some others, but that will depend on many factors too elaborate to write down.

please wake up...
Definitely, definitely, definitely watching Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse, though I think the blurb is going to turn people off prematurely. :S Although the original has porn, Total Eclipse is clean (and also has voice actors who don't do porn anyway), and I wouldn't call it a simulation... especially once you get to Alternative, which is a linear game that focuses far more on characters and plot.

I'm REALLY hoping the whole ******** that happened recently with TE's animation company and Miyata Sou doesn't affect the ratings too badly... specifically because if TE does well, there's a lot of hope that the original series will get animated next. And, porn aside, it's a goddamn amazing trilogy of games that I cannot praise enough for being so amazing. The worldbuild is incredible, the characters are sympathetic and likable, and the mechs are based on real-life fighter jets, which is pretty neat for any fans of that sort of thing.

I'm basically the only real fan of the original games that I know, so I'm hoping people at least give TE a chance and hope the anime doesn't fail to deliver in the footsteps of the games. ><

Vegetable of Doom!
Well, Accel World, Eureka Seven AO, Space Brothers, Hyouka and Hunter x Hunter (2011) will be continuing in the summer. Man, that sounds like a lot when I list them like that. As for new stuff...

What's this? Something that looks like a shoujo/josei romance from the point of view of the guy? I don't think I've seen one of those before. Maybe Natsuyuki Rendezvous will be worth a look.

Sword Art Online could be good. I'm already watching Accel World, though. I kind of get the feeling that if I pick Sword Art Online up, I might end up dropping the one I'm enjoying less.

I'm on the fence with Tari Tari. At the moment I'm leaning towards not watching it because I get the feeling that PA Works tends to like brooding and inner monologues quite a lot. The synopsis makes the anime sound pretty easy-going, which I'd imagine would give the show plenty of opportunities for such introspection. On the other hand, if there's no single main character, this might not be that much of a problem. As CC#06 so eloquently put it, "Hm..."

Aruvu Rezuru: Kikai Jikake no Yousei-tachi is a possibility... maybe... gah, I dunno. If the characters are good, I'll probably enjoy it.

Everything else is either a continuation of a series I haven't seen, something that doesn't look too interesting to me, or something I'm having trouble judging right now.

Everything looks like ****. Maybe I should start reading the Muv-Luv VNs so I won't be spoiled by the inevitable flood of muv-luv threads though.

Tsun in the streets
I see a lot monkey **** on that list.

Only thing worth watching at first glance is Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse, the Kenshin movies and a few OVAs. My opinion will probably as time goes on though.

Does that include American cartoons?

American cartoons are facing the same problem Japanese cartoons are. A lack of originality. Every show blends together, and I start to think of it as "that blonde girl is a total tsundere, I bet the MC's going to see her in her panties and she's going to physically abuse him while calling him a pervert" instead of "oh, an Anime about the Sengoku period. And the warriors are all female? That's such an interesting twist!"

Also, I just read the summary for Chitose Get You!! Oh God why.

So 1991
Instead of Chitose they should just animate more Kodomo no Jikan.

What makes you think Chitose is porn or sexual in any way?

I mean this seriously, I just looked it up and it's apparently based on a four panel gag manga.

edit: Nevermind, after more research I found out the magazine the comic comes is seinin Which is kind of strange since the magazine looks like it is targeted at children. (which means it is probably *shudder* slice of life)
