Name: Markus Moncrief
Gender: Male
Age: 15

Appearance: Markus Moncrief is a work of art. He took the French half of his mother's side and ran with it. He's a lovely pale, but not as pale as his eldest brother Lucas. His features are elegant and refined, and though he's still only average height (5'11"), his toned and lithe stature make him look just a little taller. While he was never fond of ball sports like his older brother, he did get into track, and it's done wonders for his thighs and calves. The veins in his hands stick out some, bur besides that, they're piano-playing disney princess hands. His face is long and sharp, featuring elegant cheekbones and a nose that is bumped at the bridge. His eyes are a crystal blue, bright and big and expressive as hell. He has pretty lips, a kind that wears lipstick perfectly. His hair is a soft blonde, naturally very curly, and currently styled into an undercut. His ears are pierced.

Markus is going through a very experimental phase in his fashion choices. Lots of bright and bold colors, quite a bit of fishnet and torn clothes, and plenty of revealed skin but not enough to get in trouble for it. He loves all sorts of colors, and isn't afraid to wear traditionally "feminine" colors. That concept is so far behind him he's into wearing skirts and dresses at this point. He does what he wants, and if what he wants means a pizza crop top under torn pink overalls, or a shirt that's been cut to include revealing netting, or tight leather green pants, whatever man. He's Markus and he does what he wants.

Personality: Markus is Markus and if you have a problem with it, he couldn't care less. For a fifteen year old, he has a surprisingly good grasp of a sense of self. He knows who he is and he is proud of it. He is proud of his Shoshone/French/Scottish heritage, proud of his family, and proud of his accomplishments. He loves the spotlight probably more than he should, but more than that, he loves being loved. He loves his friends very much, and wants them to love him back (in that friendshippy way). A hopeless romantic, he so wants to be loved in a romantic way, and as a result ends up being very flirtatious. However, while he is quite passionate, he isn't... firey. He is passionate in a more calm, subtle way. Yes, his art is... crazy and odd, but it isn't to deliberately rock the boat. He does it because he wants to. Markus is a smart kid, and, catch him at the right time, loves to delve into conversations about philosophy, love, humanity. Markus may be Out There and Loving Attention, but he holds himself with elegance and grace. He is still very direct and to the point about it. Just because you are graceful does not mean you have to dance around uncomfortable words.

First and foremost, Markus is an artiste. Everything is artistic to him... somehow. His primary art is fashion, and oh how he adores it. He is tuned in to New York, Tokyo, Berlin, and Paris fashion weeks, but his absolute favorite is Milan. He will judge you on your fashion choices, and he will be a model when he's older. He can talk your ear off about the fashion industry and all the good and bad. He is an admirer and writer of poetry, though he recognizes how pretentious he can be through it. He's fond of painting, but not fond of his paintings. Loves the action, hates the results. He also loves to cook, and has much better results in that regard. He has a love/hate relationship with France, as he hates how pretentious and overrated it is, but likes it and its aesthetic anyway. Markus is a musician like his eldest brother, but unlike him who focuses on a lot of instruments, Markus focuses solely on his voice and his piano. Nothing else, as to be the best he can be. He enjoys running and swimming, being out in nature in general. And, y'know, as most 15 year old boys, he loves to play video games (the kid's an ace at Mario Kart).

Markus's art can get away with him at times. He is so much of a perfectionist, to the point it's hard for him to start something if he believes he can't do it perfectly. Failure is terrifying for this kid, and because of this he puts way too much pressure on himself, leading to being way too hard on himself if something does go wrong. He can go with the flow, sure, but if the ending doesn't turn out right, that's where things get messy. His stubbornness can often put him in sticky situations, and he doesn't like giving up leadership or the spotlight. He's afraid of being forgotten. He always has to be loud and bright and out there, because if he isn't, what happens? What happens when he isn't seen? Do people even like him, or just pretend to when he's around? When Markus falls, he falls hard. He seeps into a deep depression, and it's hard to get him back to feeling colorful again.

Markus iss stubborn as hell, an immovable object, but in the end a good kid. He truly is full of love, and willing to share with anyone who wants it. Family is very important to him, both his birth family and his friend family, and he will work to protect both. Despite his perfectionism, Markus is a hard worker, and rejoices in happy endings no matter whose happy ending it is. He longs for belonging and acceptance, and wants to find a place he can call home -- and help others call it home too.

History: Marcus was born the middle child to Elaine and Oliver Moncrief. They were currently residing in Eterna City with their two other sons, Matthew and the recently adopted Lucas. Even as an infant, Markus took to Lucas almost immediately -- who took to Markus in response. Though the two weren't blood brothers (which was painfully clear, Lucas's pitch black hair and green eyes set him apart), that doesn't matter when you're just a little toddler who can't understand the rules of society. About a year after he was born, his kidneys started to fail. They had not developed correctly, and as a result started to break down and wreak havoc in his tiny little body.

His kidney problems persisted throughout his tiny little life. His brother was by his side the whole time, during dialysis treatments and blood transfusions and waiting for a transplant. It turned out that Lucas was a suitable blood donor, and if he could have, his kidney would have been Mark's. (But that's not how transplants work.) Markus's first memories are in Lucas's arms, trying to help in whatever he can. He eventually found a donor when he was six years old, which fixed most of the problem. His health shaped up pretty quickly, and he became a spritely, happy little boy.

Markus got into fashion when he started brightening up, and was happy to share with... anyone who would listen. His parents didn't mind that their son loved dolls and racecars, and sometimes rather would wear a skirt to school. Other kids didn't, but Markus didn't care. He had his family, and those who found Mark's confidence admirable.

Truthfully, from here on out, Markus's history is fairly normal. He grew up happily, with no major bumps in the road. Johnathan came into the picture when he was five, and Mark adored having a little brother. Now it was his turn to be the big brother! Of course, there was the incident when he was seven, he came home after a doctor's visit, and noting a strange lack of Lucas, decided to investigate. Seeing his brother bloodied and pale was traumatic enough. Instead of Lucas holding little Markus's hand at the hospital, it was Mark held his other brother's weak hand. He even asked if he could give his blood, but he was nine years too little. Markus wouldn't let go of Lucas when he finally woke up.

Life continued normally. Lucas graduated high school that year, and left for the University of Sinnoh in Jubilife City. Shortly after Lucas moved out, the Moncriefs moved to Lillycove City, Hoenn, as Oliver had gotten a new job in the region. He adjusted fairly well, made new friends and continued climbing higher. He was sad to leave Lucas, but big brother came home whenever he could. His younger sister Ruth was born when he was 10, and Matthew left for Castelia University on a basketball scholarship when Markus was 13. When Matthew left, Markus became the oldest brother at the house, a title he took with pride.

He started high school at 14, like normal, and had a ball. High school was big and bright and the perfect stage for Markus. He loved all his newfound friends and attention, and opportunities for romantic pursuits. Midway through freshman year, he met a boy named Ryan. Ryan was the hot and flamboyant gay. Sparks flew and the two were an item almost immediately. It was a firey, passionate, whirlwind romance, and clearly not meant to last. Markus was lead on by Ryan for months, until he walked onto him and another man in bed... several times. He forgave once, forgave twice, forgave three times before he realized that he was just another boy toy to Ryan. Markus was crushed, and ended the school year heartbroken. Elaine noticed, and signed Markus up for summer school, in hopes to lift his spirits, and we're caught up to the present...

Other: Speaks French fluently. As for his family: his parents, Johnathan (10), and Ruth (5) all live in Lillycove City. Matthew (20) is attending a university in Castelia City, while Lucas (25) resides in Hearthome City and manages Moncrief Enterprises from there. Markus is far more interested in contest battling than training battling.

Pokemon

393.gif

Name: Louis
Species: Piplup
Gender: Male
Ability: Torrent
Moves:
- Peck
- Bubble Beam
- Fury Attack
- History
History: Louis was a gift from a family friend. Lucas found a buneary shortly after being adopted, Matthew bonded with an abandoned aipom, but Markus didn't have the same luck with pokemon. When he was ten, a family friend gifted Louis to Markus. Louis was more focused on aesthetics and wanted a trainer who would understand, and they felt that it would be a good match for coordinator-in-dreaming Markus. To everyone's surprise, Louis stuck to Markus like glue, and have been inseparable ever since.
Personality: Flamboyant, proud lil shit. We love him dearly, but sometimes he needs to calm down. He loves being the center of attention, and hates having that attention taken away. Very focused on being THE BEST, and being the best looking pokemon while he's at it.
Other: A little pudgy for a piplup.

Name: Elfie
Species: Espeon
Gender: Female
Ability: Magic Bounce
Moves:
- Future Sight
- Psychic
- Dazzling Gleam
- Morning Sun
History: Elfie was a gift from Lucas when Markus was twelve. He had gotten the eevee from a trip to Unova, and felt that Markus would be a good fit for the graceful pokemon. Elfie evolved a few years later into an espeon. Louis and Elfie have been working together as a team quite well.
Personality: Elfie is feminine and graceful. She adores flowers and glitter and all sorts of pink! She loves to be beautiful and elegant. She qualifies as Mom Friend, and tends to fuss over younger pokemon. Well, any pokemon. She's a team worker, she just doesn't like the dirty work.
Other: Her fur is soft, more of a pale pink. She is a very sleek pokemon.

Sure thing! I'll add you to the OP. And with that, the spots are filled unless someone drops out.

Wow, I, didn't realize I could still write this much. I hope it's a fun read. :p

Name: Magritte Mallory Masterson*
Gender: Girl
Age (13 – 16): 14

Appearance (At least eight sentences): Standing a ways taller than other girls her age (she's close to 5'8'') and just barely an average weight, Maggie would describe her skin-tone as "nowhere near pale, nowhere near tan", something close a solid peach complexion.

The shape of Maggie's head is essentially covered up by her mop of curly auburn hair, curls and widow's peak more contained closer to the scalp and the rest falling haphazardly to her shoulders like a, human ragamuffin**. She's set up her dark eyeliner and eye-shadow (not too much of the latter) to make her brown eyes look sharp yet smokey, like she's constantly hiding at least two secrets at a time (but she's really not). Maggie's pointed nose with a very understated bridge sits above her lips painted a basic red, though she doesn't remember where this colour's from, "It's probably my mom's or something?" Since it's currently a summer month, she has once again opted to hide her face freckles with concealer***.

Maggie's top of choice for the summer is a short-sleeved t-shirt: the kind that's printed to look like a tuxedo, only white instead of black. The sleeves only reach a little past her shoulders, so covering up the rest of her arms are a pair of long black gloves; they're so satiny smooth that she had to cut off the fingers in order to get a good grip on anything. Continuing downward, Maggie also sports white cargo shorts, black tights and white... Crocs****. She may or may not be trying to upset people with this kind of get-up. Probably the least offensive thing about her outfit is her sleek, white, pleather tote bag; it holds her one Pokeball and a bunch of Berries and her dice and her notebooks and one of her mom's parasols and whatever find neat junk she finds on the ground.

Contrary to what her... lax, summer wardrobe might imply, her posture's usually pretty straight and open-chested. She makes good use of her body when she starts talking, taking care to pick specific motions and flourishes for each kind of statement, but when she's idling around her body essentially autopilots; Maggie can be found digging her foot into the ground or locking/unlocking her fingers or stretching her arms in a circle. When she wants to accentuate some kind of punchline, she'll start firing finger guns real fast and shimmying down/up.

Personality (At least eight sentences): Maggie tends to conduct herself like she's a walking punchline. If she doesn't have a lame pun or irrelevant observation on the brain, she'll opt to switching up her accent or body language. Armed with the intent to disorient, she can spit out jokes like they're tomorrow's forecast, only occasionally slipping up and laughing at her own material. She's also inherited her dad's penchant for giving anything/anyone a nickname. But she rarely checks to see if she's getting any laughs, as she's looking to impress and feel good about herself first and foremost. So she's definitely prone to talking to herself.

Maggie's current fixation is Pkmn-traning. Before that, she tried getting into Berry-growing, and before that, Pkmn anatomy caught her fancy, and so on and so on. She very much enjoys the process of learning as much as she can, but perhaps this feeds into her general indecisiveness; oftentimes she'll try to learn and memorize so many things that she'll end up forgetting a third of them! And contrary to her easy-breezy brand of humour, she likes to be extra-certain before she makes important decsions. If other people hate starting projects and tasks, then she's the type to start without an end-goal in mind, getting stuck in the middle more than once. Usually she'll end up stalling and taking too long to make a decision, but if she remembers to, she'll roll one of the dice she keeps in her bag and use that as a decision-making tool (she owns a d12 and a d20).

In regards to interactions with other people, she... can definitely keep up small-talk, one of her mother's big influences is the belief that everybody's interesting in some shape or form. In spite of being a little joker, she doesn't actively seek out other people unless she has a question in mind. She definitely thinks it's fun to learn about other people, but at the same time forming stronger friendships isn't exactly a priority for her. As for the inverse, she's not opposed to talking about her thoughts and feelings, but there's a 50% chance she'll reply with a non-sequitur or outlandish lie. She's not very easily offended, but in the event that she is, her reaction is more of an "Ummm..."

History (At least eight sentences): Maggie's earliest memories of her mother are of sitting on the couch in their Rustboro home and watching the woman on TV; her mom was a local reporter, covering public interest stories in the morning and afternoon, running the amut from interviewing local breeders to funny Purrloins. All this new information helped kickstart Maggie's quest for knowledge; as she would later put it, "Everybody's good at something!" Both parents would buy her books on all sorts of subjects.

Up to the 2nd grade, Maggie's dad would often be out doing repairs around the city, out doing construction/welding/electric work with helper Pkmn instead of at home. Luckily this didn't last much longer after that; he managed to save up enough money to start his own repair company, meaning his hours were more flexible and Maggie saw more and more of him in the mornings. This resulted in a set of circumstances where she would rarely see both of her parents around at the same time; luckily their family dynamic was pretty solid and easygoing in spite of this. Both parents would play the role of the funnyman, and their daughter learned to follow suit, resulting in the family members trying to outhumour each other or force one another into ridiculous situations.

One particularly memorable story came about when Maggie was about 10; Dad lost a bet against his wife and had to dress up as a Nurse Joy for Hallowe'en. Maggie wanted in on this joke too, so she dragged her dad to the Pkmn Center and asked the Nurse Joy stationed there to let her dad work the counter. He didn't look the part at all, but at least the hospitality was spot-on! Mom would do a report on "Nurse John" (not his real name) for the next three Hallowe'ens, as Dad's nurse get-up gradually got better and better, to the point where people couldn't even tell a man was wearing that outfit.

At some point after the third Hallowe'en, Maggie's mother had managed to hit it big with a major news network, which meant that she could travel around the world to find her next scoop, or at least, wherever the network wanted her. For her first overseas report, she ended up taking Maggie on a little vacation to Alola, during which they stayed at the Hano Grand Resort for a week. Two surprises were awaiting them when they got back; Dad had seriously started taking online nursing courses, because at this point nothing would stop him from actually becoming a Nurse Joy... and additionally there was a never-before-seen Magby lounging around the house! Dad's Magmar at work had an egg, and he decided to use the opportunity to properly acquaint Maggie with the responsibilities of raising a Pkmn.

After demonstrating enough commitment, Maggie was finally allowed to attend the Rustboro Trainer School on her thirteenth birthday. Also at the same time, her mother's workload picked up its pace, meaning she would be out of the region for longer and longer periods of time. Eventually she grew to kind of miss her mom, but at the same time, Maggie was being introduced to a wider range of topics through her mother's reports, and for the first time ever, Maggie's thirst for knowledge kind of, intimidated her a little? Also at the same time, Maggie's father enrolled her in the Hoenn Pkmn School for the summer, as a step up from her Rustboro education; he would've been a little iffy about sending his daughter to a different city if he didn't have an old friend living there. While enrolled in summer school, Maggie's expected to visit her "fishing uncle" every day.

Other:
* She's formed a habit of creating a bunch of nicknames for herself, so you can literally call her anything that isn't mean. Seriously, I refer to her with like six different nicknames alone, but for the purposes of this sign-up being easy to read, I'll stick with "Maggie".
*** Her freckles are the kind that disappear during the winter.
**** Please let this be a universe where Crocs exist. Or some sort of equivalent. Seriously this makes or breaks my entire sign-up lololol

Pokemon #1 (Must be no taller than 2’5”): Gritts
Species: Magby
Gender (Male/Female/Unknown): Male
Moves: Belch, Smokescreen, Clear Smog, Flame Burst
History (At least three sentences): The offspring of a welding Magmar. Maggie's dad essentially treated the Pkmn like her little brother, hence the derivative name. Also generally aligns towards her dad too, respects his authority more and whatnot. Introduced into Maggie's life just a little before her thirteenth birthday. This peppy little fellow loves making friends with other Pkmn, and also wandering further and further from his trainer's sight. Gritts doesn't cry very much, even when something scares him; he just collects his composure and keeps on his merry way. He's a tad more focused on his surroundings than his trainer.
Other: Somewhere between a Jolly and Naive nature; if I had to pick, I'd lean towards Jolly.
