I see it more as Lillie and Gladion fight Nihilego while Ash, Lana, Sophocles, Kiawe and Mallow all work together, possibly with TR, to defeat all the other UBs, along with the Tapus and Nebby playing relevant roles in the fight too. I don't really see the point of making only one person defeat each beast.

Also Hau has been practically conformed to not exist in the anime at this point.

I think that only Ash is doing the trials. Having a companion take one is like having a companion do a gym battle for Ash, which is unlikely, in my opinion.

If you think about it, we've only seen characters do trials up to the Grand Trial of their island, and not to any other islands. I can't remember the specifics so I might be wrong, but I don't think it was ever mentioned that the goal of someone doing a trial was to complete every one - instead it was a way to get your Z-ring. This is just a theory and probably not happening, but there's a slim chance that Ash won't bother with another trial. We've already seen Mimikyu lose its main spotlight as a totem, and Vikavolt might just as well.

It would great if each companion did a trial if that's what you're implying.

To be specific, we have only learned about one character taking on a single Grand Trial--Kiawe. And his situation seems to be a special case: He battled Olivia to prove he was worthy of the Z-Ring and Firium that had belonged to his grandfather, a former Island Kahuna (presumably of Akala Island), as part of his quest to become a Fire-type specialist.

It mentioned that the point of the Island Challenge is to earn Z-Crystals (note the plural), not a Z-Ring. Although it's never been stated, I think it's safe to assume Island Challengers receive their Z-Rings when they earn their first Z-Crystal from a Kahuna.

I highly doubt Ash is not doing all of the Trials and Grand Trials. If that happened, then the anime wouldn't be doing its job of advertising the games. Also, Ash has expressed an interest in participating in the Island Challenge, which involves battling all of the Totem Pokémon and Kahunas, not just the ones of Melemele Island.

Apparently real, it was meant to be on someone's twitter who may or may not have done some animation for XY.

Also that's the Ruins of Conflict (Koko), it's the only one with trees growing inside.

I believe that only Ash will take on the trials. He's participating in the Island Trial Challenge, which means that he wants to beat all of the Totems and Kahunas in Alola, not just the ones on Melemele Island. It would be a bad adaptation of the games if Ash only did the Melemele trials.

I want the other characters to deal with the Totem Pokemon rather than Ash.

It would be pretty bad if the other classmates didn't take on the trials but still mastered Z-moves. Like, what? Didn't SM002 show that not completing a trial breaks the crystal?

Yes it does. Kiawe can still use Z-Moves though, considering he has a Z-Move and the Firium Z.
