Seriously, what is this? Isn't this what people complained about with Paul back in DP? I just want a competent rival that's not boring like Sawyer, a disappointment like Trip or a post league Mary sue like Alain or Cameron.

We don't need another Paul, we just need someone can be a challenge without be freaking unbeatable (kek) and superior almost everytime (heck, even in the league battle, Paul was clearly better than Ash, even if the former lost).
Let Gladion or an anime only rival be strong, but not in a way he couldn't be defeated without dem.

I like Ash to be rivals with everyone but in different things.
Lillie: studying or passing tests

This sounds great but it also sounds like it might be too much. They screwed up four people doing anything productive much in XY as a whole, so having all six characters including Ash might be a lot.

Seeing that Ash isn't the main driving force for them and they (most likely) have established relationships before Ash arrived and having different interests & goals, I think they'll be handled better than the XY group. It's not like all 7 characters have to interact with each other all the time, much less be in the same episode or in the same time frame. This show will work well with a rotating cast and since the show is shifting some of the main focus to Pikachu (finally getting the main character treatment he's been needing for so long!!!), I can see some episodes dedicated to him interacting with not just Ash or Togedemaru but lets say, Pikachu decides to stay in the house while Ash is doing something somewhere else and if Lillie is the Prof's live in assistant, she and Pikachu could make for entertaining moments as Pikachu unintentionally gets too close to her and she screams in fear. I'll really like to see Pikachu's POV of things.

Only Pokemon tries to teach impressionable youngsters morals and telling kids it's ok to cheat in order to pass tests in school doesn't seem like the smartest idea to me.

I could see the classmates teaching Ash all their little quirks and past times to some degree, and it ending up a chekhov's skill in later trials. That would actually be quite fun to watch, XY Ash was lacking a bit in being competent through learning and experiencing new things.

I want Lana to be the one who introduces Ash to Water Ride Pokémon and shows him how to ride Sharpedo.
I would like that, too. It would make Sophocles a contrast to Clemont, and it would make having two Electric type Pokémon specialists and inventors in a row feel less redundant. As I've said before, I want Sophocles to give Ash unsolicited advice on how to raise Pikachu. I don't think Ash would mind too much being given advice on how to raise his other Pokémon, but he would take offense on being told how to raise Pikachu.
I agree. In past series, Ash was the magnet of the group; his friends tagged along because of him. Here, everyone else has already established relationships with each other and Ash is the new kid on the block. It would be an interesting twist if he actually has trouble fitting in at first, since usually, he has no problem making friends. I doubt that would happen, though.

Here is what I would like to see: At first, Lillie doesn't explain to Ash why she freaks out and/or runs away whenever Pikachu (or another Pokémon) gets too close to her. It could be because she is embarrassed, or it's just too personal to her. It's only after a few occurrences - and her feeling bad for hurting Pikachu's feelings - that she explains that she can't physically touch Pokémon. I want that to be an emotional, poignant moment, during which Ash feels really sorry for her, and maybe even promises to help her.

I hope Lillie will do more than that. I get she is a book worm but she will need to do more later on down the road to not be stale in the group. I'm not sure Kiawe will do racing, and judging from what you're wanting Mamane to do, it seems like you're trying to make him into the arrogant one of the group. We don't need a Clement 2.0 or a Sawyer 2.0 neither.

But Clemont nor Shouta was arrogant. The only thing Mamane shares with Clemont is that they both love creating inventions and have an Electric mouse Pokémon. I see Mamane as arrogant in the sense of believing that he'll accomplish something that Ash or Kiawe did but better (using his inventions/head in the process) but end up making it worse for himself and making himself look like a fool. Lillie is guaranteed to do more than just study but seeing as though we barely have much information to go on, we can only assume what was shown. I imagine her helping out Prof Kukui and keeping close to him. She seems like someone who enjoys staying indoors and being in the sidelines, watching the others have fun or fight. I'm very sure she'll do more.

Exactly. XY Ash always learned new things and created innovative thinking in defeating gym leaders like Viola(countering sticky web, ice battlefield), against Grant(Draco Meteor climb), Korrina(aura sphere climb). He kept using new strategies and won majority of his battles. I doubt SM Ash will be half as good as XY Ash in this aspect.
