• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future

Is anyone else doing a Gen 7 only run first? And if so would you count Alolan forms as "new" or no? I always use only new Pokemon in my initial playthroughs, but I'm debating on using an Alolan form (not sure which it would be yet), but I'm hesitant.

Definitely, I only use new pokemon one my play through of the story. Then I breed and create competitive teams that include pokemon from any gen

This is how I generally play through my games anyway (using teams from that specifi cgeneration/region). I definitely count the Alolan Forms as "new" since these forms are standalone, not temporary, and are only available in Alola. For example, my entire Sun team will be comprised of six Alolan Forms (so far; Marowak, Exeggutor, Raichu, Muk, and Ninetales. I'm waiting on a water type).

I don't intend to plan my team until I see the full dex, but yeah, I will only be using new pokémon. I always do that in my first playthrough of the first game of a generation, and use cross-generational teams if I want for subsequent playthroughs and other versions(third versions, sequels, remakes).
As for your other question I'm not sure if I consider say Alolan Sandslash as a gen VII pokémon, but I definitely consider it "new" which is what I go by.

Pokemon Moon: Rowlett3, Lycanroc(midday), and Lycanroc(midnight). Thats it for now, unless there is a really cool new pokemon waiting for me out there.
I have no idea for a team in Pokemon Sun yet haha

Nah, I don't really like doing "only new Pokémon runs" (even though I feel like I'm one of the only people who don't). However, I usually limit myself to only two or less old 'Mons.

On Moon I'm going to take Popplio as my starter and I'm going to use Lycanroc. I don't know what I'm doing on Sun yet.

I am. Alolan forms seem a bit borderline to me. I probably wouldn't use it on my first run unless I become really attatched or something.

I'd say Alolan forms are up for debate. While their typing drastically changes, their designs are predictably reminiscent of their original forms. I don't know enough about the "true" Gen VII Pokemon to feel comfortable enough running an entire team of them just yet. It really depends on when they appear in-game first, though. I tend to be the kind of player who likes to consolidate a full team early on because I find that my levels often run high relative to the area even without the Exp. Share switched on. It equates to less training later in the game, and I absolutely loathe grinding. Unless we're given a method a la Restaurant Le Wow in Gen VI for extremely fast leveling, I have no desire to train a Pokemon that is encountered super late in the game.

But hey, the beauty of going through a Pokemon game is that it is entirely your decision as to how you approach it.

A-Cubone
A-Sandshrew
Rowlett
Vikavolt

Lycanroc(Mid-Day)/Komala/Mudbray/Type:Null/Jangmo-o depending on further info releases and their place in the game as I progress. I like to have my team locked by the halfway mark on the first play through.

EDIT: I typically play all native on the first play through but their moves and animations appear to be different enough for me to consider Alolan Form Mons to be "new" I mean it has a Sandshrew look but that's about it, it's a totally different playstyle and moveset.

Personally having a really hard time making a team, I really hate having more than two of the same weakness on a team. And I gotta have that fire water grass combo. I know I want lycanroc and Rowlett, and probably salandit, but I gotta see at least how salandit turns out. Even with those three got a couple shared weaknesses already T.T Where are all my beloved steel types

Yup. Gen VII mono-Dark in Moon, Gen VII mono-Grass in Sun. I do consider Alola forms new enough, especially since it means I'll be using pokemon I've never been able to use in my Dark teams before. Undecided yet what I'll do if there aren't at least 6 new Dark types. I may try to make it through the game with less than 6, depending on how challenging the game is. If it's anything like X and Y, I can probably do less than 6 just fine. If it's more like BW, maybe not.

In my first run of X & Y, I had four Gen 6 pokemon on my team. I see myself having at least this much in my first run in Moon.

The only non-Gen 7 pokemon I see myself having is Alolan Marowak. I'd have to come across a huge favorite early on, like Eevee (Umbreon) or Honedge (Aegislash) in order for me to have another non-Gen 7 pokemon on my team.

As a child I used to always use new pokemon teams only but that has changed in the last few generaation. Unless some drastic pokemon I truly love from gen 7 arrives I will be using a mix gen team of pokemon I have loved using in the past. Only Lycanroc midday has earnt itself a place so far.

You should probably know that gen 6 transferring won't be available until January, so...

im gonna get pokemon moon and use (some of these will have to be via trading with my bro from sun)
1. Rowlet
2. Litten or Torracat (unsure, probably torracat)
3. Lycanroc (day)
4after this im somewhat unsure but assuming nothing new screams out to me, pikipeck, komala (unless it's evo is ugly) and oranguru will be the other three
some other pokemon i could use: mimikyu, steenee, lurantis, oricorio, passimian, and the supposed dolphin and toucan pokemon

With Silvally revealed, I want it, probably gonna be a a late game guy though so I'm not sure. I'll need to find a placeholder Pokémon for its role, so it'll have to be pretty powerful/high leveled to justify replacement

On another note, Alolan Muk has my attention, hope it has good stats so it can fight off fairies for my team

So with new additions means new revisions!

Moon Team:
Brionne
Lycanroc (Midnight)
Ribombee
Bewear
Alolan Sandslash
Alolan Marowak

Sun Team(1):
Dartrix
Komala
Salandit
Silvally
---
---

Sun Team(2):
Torracat
Passimian
Kommo-o
Morelull
---

I'm thinking about using Alolan Ninetales, Muk, and Raichu on my Sun teams, I'm just waiting to see if we'll be getting Alolan Arbok, Dewgong, and Parasect or not and waiting to see what Alolan Persian looks like too.

Also, Kommo-o and Morelull can technically be placeholder Pokemon for my third playthrough, as I have a feeling there'll be some new Pokemon I'll like a lot more.

Since I'm getting both Sun and Moon, I've decided to Nuzlocke my Moon Version and main on my Sun version until I do my character runs. Here's what I've decided to use for Pokemon Sun (I use more than 6 Pokemon), at least for the Pokemon revealed. Odds are, there's going to be some unrevealed Pokemon that I may want. I'm going to try to not use previous generation Pokemon, excluding Alolan forms.

Pokemon Sun

Rowlet
Popplio
Litten
Vikavolt
Lycanroc (Midday)
Mudsdale
Alolan Ninetales
Alolan Muk
Kommo-o (Late Game)
Silvally

I'm getting both copies, Sun I'll get for release and will be my main game, whilst Moon is on the Xmas list.
Moon will typically be my Nuzlocke/Wonderlocke team.

I'm really struggling at the moment to find pokemon for my team, but hopefully that will change when it comes to the release. I'm not fussed on many of the revealed pokemon at the moment, so my team is full of placeholders who will likely get replaced, if I don't like many of the pokemon in the end, I may start going back and using older pokemon who I've not used before.

SUN:
Litten
Rockruff (Placeholder)
Type Null (Placeholder)
Water type (Always have a water type in my team, if I don't like the water types of Alola, and Buizel is in game, then that will be used)

That's it so far. And even Litten could change depending on the final evolutions.
