The Red Thunder

Backwards thinking?
Last time, I had completed Mallow's Trial of the Grasses and obtained the Grassium-Z. Up next, Professor Kukui had asked me to head to the Dimensional Research Lab, which was on the way to the Akala Grand Trial, anyway.

After a lot of dialogue and character building, it was time for Diglett's Cave. The dungeon itself wasn't particularly difficult, as I was a bit overleveled for the area. At the end of the cave, I had a double-battle with Hau against some Team Skull Grunts. It was pretty easy, because, as I said, I'm a bit overleveled.

Outside, I made my way to Konikoni City, and immediately headed to the apparel shop. I've been trying to find a good style, and slowly been working toward a black and white outfit. The male clothing style was average priced, which was okay with me. But, I noticed something that was a bit ... off. The female shoe selection cost thirty thousand pokedollars! But, they were very cute sandals, so I bought them anyway. There was also a really nice pleated skirt that wasn't nearly as expensive. I am not sure if there's a way to take photos of yourself in-game, like there was in X & Y.

Moving along, I obtained the Pikanium-Z from the girl in the park at the edge of town. I headed back to Olivia's shop, and it was here I noticed yet another difference based on which trainer you're playing. For females, there's another vendor that sells hair accessories. I bought a cute little flower hairpin.

Her Probopass gave me a note that said to meet her atop the Ruins of Life. So that's exactly where I went. There was a number of graves and trainers up here. There's one kid in particular that really encapsulates the ignorance of youth. At the far end of the graveyard, I stumbled across a conflict between Team Skull and the Aether Foundation. After settling that dispute, it was time for me to push forward to my Grand Trial.

The battle with Olivia was actually pretty easy. Both of my starters are strong to Rock, not to mention that many of my team members are good against it as well. I swept her team with incredible ease, and obtained the Rockium-Z. I gave it to Zero and Loba, so that they now have a STAB Z-Move.

With that done, the old man from Aether wanted to take me to a "wonderful place", and told me to meet him at the Hano Grand Resort. I did, but not before exploring the beach, first. The beach held a few things that I wanted to do. First was the Pyukumuku chucking. The paycheck was awesome at 20k, per day. Up next was catching myself a Sandygast, and as it turns out is yet another really dark Pokemon. Finally, I explored the waves and battled against a number of trainers to help build up some Exp.

Inside the hotel, the old man introduced himself as Faba, and escorted Hau and me to the Aether Paradise. A series of events played out, and I eventually met Wicke and Lusamine. Is it just me, or does Lusamine have a very controlling personality? It was also right then that something exploded, and a wormhole opened. The creature that came out looked like blown glass, and Lusamine went into full creep factor. I challenged it to fight, and battled it down. Upon it's defeat, it retreated, and Lusamine got even creepier than before. I really don't like this woman.

With the event over, Wicke took us to Ula'ula Island. The Professor had asked me to meet him in Maile Garden, so that's where I was headed. But not before Hau challenged me to a battle. This fight was actually pretty difficult, but I emerged victorious. As a reward, my Salandits both evolved into Salazzle. My starters were very close to their evolutions, as well.

In the Maile Garden, I made my way around, fighting all the trainers and random Pokemon I came across, and that's when it happened. Archer and Aria evolved into their final forms, and learned their signature moves. After finding the Professor, I now had to find Lillie at the Library. Here's where I saved it and called it quits.

Continuing to try to complete my pokedex. Tried some weather SOS battles and caught Castform, Vanillite, and Sliggoo which I evolved to Goodra. Caught a 2nd Tauros with an ability I hadn't seen before called Anger Point(1st one had Intimidate).

I have been slaying Cubones left and right (with Thief of course) trying to find a Thick Club. Just caught a Shiny Cubone... still no thick club. If anyone has any tip or tricks out side of SOS, compound eyes and thief to get the thick club, lease let me know. THANKS!!

Went north to the Ula'ula Meadow, battled the trainers there, picked up items, caught Ribombee and this Island's variation of Oricorio. Also found a strange place named the Lake of the Sunne. There was nothing there right now, but it seemed very mysterious... I guess there will be something there later on, otherwise it would be a big waste. Continued even further north to Route 17, where I met several members of Team Skull. Also found a Police station inhabited by nothing but Meowth. No wonder Team Skull can roam freely here.

Battled the Team Skull Grunts here and found several items. The constant rain was a mixed bag, it buffed Primarina's Water-type moves and made Tsareena less weak to Fire, but it made Salazzle's Flame Burst less powerful and made it even more weak to Water-moves. I managed to make it through anyway. Arrived at the entrance to Po Town. Could not enter at first, then an old man appeared and let me enter.

Went inside. The rain, the darkness, the graffiti, the decay and despair, the music. These things really managed to create a good atmosphere. Or good, it was fitting for a Town occupied by an evil team. Speaking of which, I'm still impressed by Team Skull, they feel like a hilarious and successful version of Team Rocket. I explored the town, battled many grunts and found several items. They had control of the Pokemon Center too, it was possible to heal my Pokemon there, not for free, but very cheap.

Arrived at the Shady House and explored it as well. Battled more grunts and found more items, including a TM for Sludge Bomb which I taught to Salazzle. I eventually solved the passwords and got access to Guzma's room. Battled him and won, he wasn't that hard. He left afterwards together with some of the grunts, and the Pokemon they had stolen ran outside. I stole a Buginium Z from their stash, then I left as well.

Outside, I met the old man again. Don't remember his name, but he turned out to be Acerola's grandfather (I believe it was so at least). He was a policeman. It can't be easy to take care of this place all on his own, now I understand even further how Team Skull could be so successful here. I went back to the Aether House together with Acerola. The stolen Yungoos got back to its trainer, but Lillie was gone? How and why? Hau explained that Team Skull had appeared, with Plumeria in the lead. They had come to try and steal Lillie's Cosmog, and she had gone with them willingly. Seems a little suspicious... When he was done with the story, Gladion appeared and challenged me to a battle, I won. He told me to follow him to the Malie harbor. I wonder where we are going, feels like it is too early to go to the next Island since I haven't beaten or even met the Kahuna on this Island yet. I'm guessing we are going somewhere else, but I could be wrong. Decided to stop there for today, will continue tomorrow though I won't have much time to play then as it is Wednesday yet once more. Will probably not continue with the main story then, going to try and get some other things done instead.

- After a harsh battle against the head teacher Emily, I was given some Great balls and Ilima informed me that the first trial would happen at Verdant Cavern. I then arrived at Hau'oli city.
- Hau took me to the tourist bureau office once we were in the big city and I was given the Poke Finder. Next I caught pokemon including a Pichu at the Hau'oli city shopping district. ^^
- I soon heard that Team Skull was hanging out at the local marina making a ruckus and I challenged the grunts with Ilima's help hee hee. Once they had lost, I visited the Hau'oli salon.

After finishing the trial, I backtracked into Vast Poni Canyon. There was one area I missed last time, so I spent some time looking for it. I found it eventually and battled the trainer there & got the Flamethrower TM.

Once that was done, I continued on to the Altar of the Moone. Lillie and I went to the top, where we used the Sun & Moon Flutes to get Lunala to appear. Then, we went to the Ultra Space or whatever it's called. We found Guzma and Lusamine there and I had to fight Lusamine again. I started weakening her Clefable with my Golisopod as that's what I had in the lead, but that didn't go too well so I eventually switched to Muk and used a few Poison Jabs. After that, I went over to Raichu, who was able to defeat Milotic, Mismagius, and Bewear. Finally, Golisopod ended up being useful against Lilligant, OHKOing it with First Impression.

After some cutscenes, I returned to the altar and battled Lunala. I'd moved Raichu to my lead slot and had it paralyze Lunala with Thunder Wave. Then, I went over to Toucannon and got Lunala down to red HP with several Drill Pecks. Lunala broke out of the first ball I used, but then the second Ultra Ball was successful.

Finally, I went back to Tapu Village and went up to the base of Mount Lanakila to check it out. I ran into Gladion again and had to fight him, which I wasn't really expecting to have to do right then, but whatever. For the most part, Gladion wasn't too difficult to defeat; Crobat and Weavile went down easily, while Silvally only took a few turns. Lucario, though, was annoying as it Aura Sphered my Toucannon and Shuckle-Speed Dugtrio to death. Had to bring in either Golisopod or Muk to take it down.

When that battle was done, I went back to the village to heal. Next time, I'll probably go through Mount Lanakila.

So I started yesterday at the second part of Ula Ula on my copy of Moon and went on to continue throughout the rest of the main story once more. I also caught the last normal exclusive mom I needed to complete my "Alolan Dex", Drampa. Now it's just the exclusive legends/rares, and my living "Alolan dex" will be complete. Ended up beating the elite 4 as normal, though it was a lot tougher than my first run sun, granted my team was actually fully on level this time rather than slightly overleveled in the early 60s by the time I hit Kukui this run. Afterwards went through the credits once more and beat up Tapu Koko this time so I can fight him later for a desirable nature for competitive use. Will start the next session rushing through the postgame once more.

One thing I gotta commend the localization team for, the translation from the Japanese script to English is practically perfect. Essentially a 1-1 ratio (minus a few certain details such as names). Funny thing to note, there are no text changes in the Japanese script for gender, with most peer characters using the gender neutral "-san" suffix to refer to your character, whilst older characters, such as Nanu/Kuchinashi and Looker refer to you with the primarily masculine suffix "-kun".

I FINALLY got Sun version yesterday afternoon! I couldn't fire it up and start playing until about 5:30pm, tho, but I sat up and played it until about 12:30am! I SR'd for an Adamant Rowlet, which took me five tries, but I had this sinking suspicion that my first Rowlet may have been accidentally shiny, but I skipped over it because it had a Quirky nature. I swear, I wasn't paying attention! I'm so sorry!!! Dx

Anyway, after the usual tutorial BS, I caught a couple of Pikipeks, looking for one with Skill Link. The second one I caught had it, so I moved on, getting Rowlet to Lv.10, catching a Grubbin, and beating Hau a couple of times. I ground out some levels against the wild Pokémon for a while, lamenting how few and far between trainers are in the early routes. I eventually made my way to the first trial site, clearing it with lots of lag, accuracy shenanigans, and just being confused by why things were happening the way they were. I then looped around the island, going back to fight Hala for my Grand Trial. Trumbeak wrecked house, but fell to Crabrawler's Z-move. Charjabug picked up the slack with his Acrobatics move. I then looped back around the island again, smashing rocks with Tauros, before taking Kukui's ramshackle boat to Akala Island. I met Sina and Dexio, got the Zygarde Cube, and visited the Tide Song Hotel before saving my game.

Current team:
Legolas the Dartrix, Lv.20
Toukitouki the Trumbeak, Lv.20
Kuwanger the Charjabug, Lv.21

Did a few small things today. Started by going back to the abandoned warehouse to look for a Mimikyu. After running into and then running from a million Golbat, a thousand Haunter as well as a few Klefki, I finally found a Mimikyu. Managed to catch it without major problems. Went to the Pokemon Center on Route 16 and showed my Pokedex to an Aether Foundation worker there now that I had Mimikyu registered, got a bit of money as thanks for helping out. Continued by flying back to Akala for a short bit, went to the Lush Jungle. There, I looked around for some Pokemon. First, I found and caught a Comfey, didn't have one before. I also found the one I was looking for, an Oranguru, after a little while. Didn't take nearly as long as Mimikyu, which was a relief. Once I had caught it, I went to Konikoni and spoke to another Aether Foundation worker in the Pokemon Center there, showed my Pokedex with Oranguru registered and got some more money. And that's all I had time for today, going to continue with the story tomorrow. Not going to post my team today since there hasn't been any changes from yesterday.

Started off with Classic Breakneck Blitzing Gladion's Type: Null into oblivion. Did the Bounsweet Trade on the way into Brooklet Hill. The totem Wishiwashi fight ended up being more annoying then hard. Wishiwashi used soak, so Owl lost the same type attack bonus on Razor Leaf. Alomomola also kept healing it with Heal pulse. Eventually won though and got the fishing rod. Caught a Magikarp to wondertrae because i was feeling a little evil. Ended up with another japanese abra, which i traded for an alolan diglett. After the Wondertrade, i ended up in a Type-matchup mission. There were 18-20 people in the mission at once. With Lapras in tow, i headed back to Melemele Island. Explored Melemele Sea and was surprised by all the Sharpedo rocks. Found the cave to Ten Carat Hill and collected the Explosion TM. Also caught another magikarp. This one was level 18 so i evolved it with some Rare candys. Went and explored Kala'e Bay next. Tried an adrenaline orb on a wishiwashi. Dont know if the orb caused it, but the wishiwashi refused to be caught the few times i got in alone. Once i got back to Heahea City i discovered a few building opened up. Apparently in the Game Freak office water is 50 Dollars cheaper. Also found that Route 6 leads back into Heahea City as well. Classic handled the Tutorial battle Royal by OHKO'ing Hau with Breakneck Blitz

Now that I have caught all of the available Ultra Beasts and Tapu, I have been steadily working on filling in my Pokedex, working my way numerically through each individual island Dex. I now have 209 or so Pokemon registered. So far, I have just been focusing on the Pokemon I can catch and evolve on my own, then later will get my friend who has Sun to help me with trade evolutions and version exclusives. The easiest way for me to evolve Pokemon has been to max their affection in Refresh (feed two rainbow beans), give a Lucky Egg, and grind in Poni Gauntlet with the Pokemon in question being in the first slot. It took a while to evolve Shelgon into Salemance, but it went faster than if I had tried any other way. I will hold off on re-battling the Elite Four until later. My team hasn't changed since I beat the game - Tapu Koko still feels a lot better to use than Vikavolt, even if it has a smaller move pool.

Caught a Cubone on my way up Wela Volcano Park. Also used the wild Salandit and Fletchling to level up snowball some more. Got a bit lost on the way up with the cave entraces. Rock Tomb was all that was needed to defeat all the Trial pokemon and Totem Salazzle. Snowball evolved after the fight. Met Colress on Route 8 and discovered the Aether Foundation in a trailer. Found a Stufful and named it Rumble. Apperently Nest balls work better then Ultra balls. Anyway, when training Rumble i ran into a Salandit S.O.S battle. Got a female Salandit from it. Eventually ended up against the Ace Trainer Eileen. Wasnt expecting her to have Flyinium Z, but Snowball handled it. Made a trip to Poké Pelago and found 3 Raindow poke beans among many others. Fed all three Rainboe beans to Rumble for max Happiness. Got everyone else to level four happiness with regular beans and petting. Also upgraded Isle Abeens to level 2 and unlocked Island Aplenny. Ended up actually having trouble during Mallows Trail. Only good attack i had was Owl's Pluck. Had to sacrifice Snowball and Classic to heal Owl along the way. Gave Owl the Grassium Z to help against Olivia. Took a quick trip back through route 8 to get Classic and Snowball up to level 26 to match Owl. Revisited Isle Abeens to find a Wild Zubat, Carbink, and Spearow. Flew back to Heahea City and visited the Dimensional Research Lab.

Backwards thinking?
Last time, I had left off in the Maile Library, having just gathered information about Solgaleo and Lunala. Up next was to head out onto Route 10, and make my way toward Mount Hokulani.

But first, there was a small detour I wanted to make just north of Maile City. The waste disposal facility just north of town had two trainers that fought me. The first with a Muk, the second with a Grimer. I also met two interesting characters. The first is a man who will let me change the style that I have when entering battle. He gave me two new styles, but I have to find the others by meeting certain criteria. The other was Alolan Oak, who gave me an item that I honestly can't remember.

Out on Route 10, I came across a lady who wanted me to find her eight missing Stufful. I walked along the single narrow path, challenging every trainer and collecting Stufful along the way. Once I had all eight, I headed back to the lady, who gave me 15,000 Pokedollars. At the end of the Route, there were two Team Skull Grunts who were trying to steal a bus stop sign. No idea why, but I beat them both down with ease.

Once they were done in, Kukui and I took the shuttle up the mountain, and before I attempted the Trial, I headed back down the mountain on foot. There was a new Pokemon to catch ... or seven. Minior and all it's forms. According to what I read online, Minior does not change color when bred, so if I want to have all seven colors available to me, I must catch all seven. Unfortunately, Minior also knows Self Destruct, making weakening them then catching them far more tedious than it had to be. Fortunately, I eventually caught all seven and continued down the mountain. I beat up a few more trainers, eventually getting to challenge a Veteran.

It was now time for Sophicles's Trial of Electricity. His trial was a joke, as it required me to defeat a bunch of bug-type Pokemon, eventually culminating in fighting the Totem Vikavolt. I one-shot every Pokemon in both runs of the trial using Loba and Zero's Continental Crush.

Having completed the trial, I was rewarded with both the Electrium-Z and Steelium-Z. I gave the Steelium-Z to Mudsdale in my Sun team, but my Moon Team didn't get any changes. Here are my teams as of yet.

Once I finished up in Lush Jungle I headed down through Diglett's Tunnel to Konikoni City. I trained for a while and evolved Rockruff before heading over to the Ruins of Life to meet Olivia. I was surprised to see Plumeria show up outside but I beat her without hassle. Olivia's battle wasn't too hard. Nosepass surprised me and managed to knock out Dartrix (damn Thunder Wave) but Wishiwashi finished it off and took out Boldore too. I wanted to take out her Lycanroc with my own, and after healing for a while it went down and I got the Rockium Z.

After the trial I went back to Konikoni and decided to evolve Pikachu because it had been lagging a bit. It's only special Electric more is charge beam but at least it has psychic now, I guess. I then made my way to the hotel resort I couldn't access before and caught a couple of Pokemon before saving.

So I continued on from last night today. Starting from Heahea City, I transferred my goodies from my Demo version to my game, sold the loot items and added the Greninja to my team. Then, I headed up Rte. 4 to Paniola Town, where I demolished Hau again. I then headed to Brooklet Hill to take on my second Island Trial. Dartrix wrecked house, Razor Leaf was a beauteous move in that Totem battle.

After that, I went thru Paniola Ranch and got Stoutland Search added to my Ride Pager. I continued on to Wela Volcano Park, where I SOS-chained for a female Salandit to add to my team before taking on the third Island Trial. I knew that Kiawe had a lot of Marowak, so I put Charjabug out front because it had just learned Crunch not too long prior. Charjabug managed to survive the first Maowak, the photobombing Hiker's Magmar, AND take out the Totem Salazzle before falling to the totem's ally Salandit due to a combination of Toxic and Venoshock. Trumbeak finished off the battle with Fury Attack, completing my third Island Trial!

I travelled in a westerly direction across Rte. 8, making it to Lush Jungle, where I saved and took a break to handle real-life issues. Along the way, my Trumbeak evoled into Toucannon and learned Beak Blast.

I fired up my 3DS at the doctor's office waiting room, and caught a Diglett on Rte. 5 to add to my team. It was female, so I named it Heidi after the supermodel, Heidi Klum. :3 At my sister's house, I took on the Lush Jungle Trial using my freshly-evolved Toukitouki, who OHKO'd Totem Lurantis with a single Beak Blast. After all the horror stories I've heard about that battle, I made sure to save right before the cooking minigame in prep to SR a ton of times, but it was unnecessary. Maybe it was because my Toucannon was Lv.29, or maybe it was because Beak Blast is too OP'd? I don't really care, because I'm ready to go find Olivia for my second Grand Trial. Once I beat Ms. Bootyshorts McHotpants, my Greninja will start listening to my orders, and I can start using him seriously in battles. I really wanna level up Diglett and Salandit first, tho.

Current team:
Toukitouki the Toucannon, Lv.29
Kuwanger the Charjabug, Lv.28
Legolas the Dartrix, Lv.30
Greninja, Lv.38
Succubus the Salandit, Lv.24
Heidi the Diglett, Lv.22

Went through Mount Lanakila today. It didn't take me that long at all to get through, which surprised me a it. Once I was near the Pokemon League, I battled Hau one more time. I started the battle with my Dugtrio, but its Speed let me down again and it got OHKOed by a Focus Blast from Hau's Raichu. I sent Golisopod in and used it to take down Raichu, Flareon, and Komala. For Primarina, I switched to Muk and used a couple of Poison Jabs.

After defeating Hau, I reached the league and spoke with Kukui there. I didn't want to fight the Elite Four right then, so I left to do some other things. I returned to some previous towns in order to fight some of the Trial Captains as I didn't realize you could battle some of them until I checked the main site today...Anyway, I fought Ilima, Lana, and Mallow and defeated them with Dugtrio since Dugtrio really needed some redemption after dying a lot recently. Once that was done, I purchased several TMs and taught a few of them to my Pokemon because some of their movesets really needed improvements.

I'll probably do some more training and maybe a few other things before I take on the Pokemon League.

I have been hatching eggs for both 5/6 IV Pokémon for trading as well as some MM'ing lately. I now have many 5/6 IV Pokémon and four total self-hatched 5 IV shinies.
Yesterday, I hatched over 400 eggs across about 10 different Pokémon for a multi-Pokémon MM. What did I get out of it?
A shiny Mimikyu with an IV spread of 31/31/31/31/x/31. He is currently about level 50 and EV trained.
I plan on continuing to level up my current shinies and then Hyper training at least some of them (probably all of them). I will then either probably try some Battle Tree with them and/or do some more MM'ing.
(No, I have not finished the Zygarde sidequest or Hyper Trained my Tapu Lele. I may do the second thing after I have seen what it does to some of my shinies.)

I played a long time after I last posted, making it thru Ula'ula Island and to Aether Paradise to rescue Lillie. Along the way, my whole team surpassed the Lv.40 mark, and with the exception of Charjabug, who doesn't evolve until Vast Poni Canyon, everyone is fully evolved and ready to wreck house! The only problem is, I have no SE moves against Dragon-types. With no Fairy-type on my team, no access to the Ice Beam TM until post-game, and the only Dragon-type move on my team being Dragon Rage, those Aether Foundation Employees with Dragon-types will likely be troublesome.

Succubus the Salazzle, Lv.43
Toukitouki the Toucannon, Lv.42
Ash-Greninja, Lv.48
Legolas the Decidueye, Lv.44

I cleared all of Poni Island. I caught all the Tapus. And I completed the UB quest and caught Necrozma with a masterball (it was the only strong Pokemon left to capture so I felt lazy to do some action).

Incineroar lvl 70
Raichu lvl 70
Dugtrio lvl 70
Ninetales lvl 75
Pelipper lvl 64
Kommo-o lvl 71

This is my last post on this thread. I only posted here for my progress of the storyline (including the UB quest). With that completed, all is left is capturing Pokemon, Festival Plaza, Trading, and Poke Pelago.

Awesome game this has been. :D
