Super Mario Galaxy 2

Discuss. Considering there's a thread for Other M I thought this would be okay.

Wat.
I am quite frankly not too hyped for this, but will probably get it eventually.

Same here. I thought the first one was a bit overated. Still good though. Also, Yoshi better be able to touch water in this game.

Anyways, I'm not too sure about this. I will absolutely get it, but I'm just concerned that it will be Galaxy 1.5, like it's starting to look. But it has Yoshi so that might justify it all.

Let's go to the beach, each.
I plan on getting it. I have the first one and although it's too the best game I own, it served it's purpose; I was entertained. I'm looking forward to some intense graphics this time around, hope I'm not disappointed.

I'll be getting it, but I'll keep my expectations low after what happened to a certain hyped game.

Oh lord.

And which hyped game would that be?

The one we're not allowed to make threads of it here in Serebii Forums anymore, a.k.a. Brawl.

I figured as much.

And what happened there, exactly? The game released, a certain crowd realized they couldn't wave dash anymore, declared the game "BROKEN!" and tried to lead an Internet revolt?

Mostly that, and another crowd complaining about the lack of characters they want in Brawl the most (Ex: Geno). Not to mention yet another crowd who complain about the single player modes in Brawl when they should know by now that single player isn't what makes fighting games good.

So the only thing that really went wrong with Brawl was the deluge of whining teenagers complaining about minutiae and personal preference.

Sounds about right.

I'm hoping Super Mario Galaxy 2, being what it is, can avoid complaining about which characters are playable and whether the single-player mode is any good or not.

I don't think this was a good thing, I know many people will jump on me about this, and brick me and whatever else they feel like doing.

Now I remember back when I first played Mario 64, I noticed they had one big 3D mario game per system.. I could be wrong of course
Mario 64 - N64
Mario Sunshine - Gamecube
Mario Galaxy - Wii

Putting another one in, is just too soon I think. I mean they released Super Mario Wii. or w/e it's called. People are still raging on about it.

I do not think I will buy it, if it is too similar to the first, that is why I am renting it first, to see whether I should fork 50$ for an almost exact duplicate or not.

Super Mario Wii. or w/e it's called.

...give you a hint, son: it's the same name as this one, minus the number.

Your argument is fundamentally flawed, as you're somehow assuming that a second game on the same console is, somehow, a guarantee of a drop in quality, which isn't the case (or, in the interest of equality, at least isn't the case in and of itself).

The previous game (I'm not giving you the name, I want to see if you can figure this out) will be two and a half years old by the time this one releases; that's an eternity where video game releases are concerned. To somehow say that they shouldn't be releasing this game because "people are still raging on" about the last game makes no sense.

for an almost exact duplicate or not.

Well that doesn't make any sense. Unless they actually reuse most of the previous game in its entirety, it can't actually be "an almost exact duplicate", now can it?

When Majora's Mask released only two years after Ocarina of Time, did anyone waste time complaining "it's too soon after the last one, this isn't a good thing"? I hope not.

AND IT WAS THIS BIG!
I love though how people are considering it more of a 1.5 or an extension when the whole hub system's been outed for a world screen, it has a simple Mario Head for going between these worlds, and things are looking much more streamlined when it comes to gameplay, thanks to Yoshi. Oh and its 10x harder gig should signify enough that its much more then just a slap on to the first.

Keep in mind I am not going to argue, it's not in my nature... I posted the first post at 1am, after work, not that important but.... But I did notice some stuff that I should reply to. There are these kinds of people that would probably make you face to palm

Ok, now that I am more awake, I can probably think straight.

Sure it makes no sense, however it is true with some people, heck with the release of Mario Party 9 for the Wii, a lot of people I knew complained about it, too soon, too repetitive and all that. There are some people that are like that. They would go all , ugh, its the same characters, same story almost, same plot, Start from one spot, rescue _____, take on Bowser, finish the game, finish the bag of chips.

I was suppose to delete that line. I guess it didn't.

Well thank god you don't live in my area then, or know the many people that I know. A lot of people that I knew refuse to buy the game until it was too late (When they stopped making the N64). There are some of those serious types out there.

All I wanted to say, was that I hope it would be different then the first one. >___<;

Thank you, SPPf! :)
I may as well pounce on this "similarity" argument and flip the switch on "Mario Fanboy Mode".

People seem to - somehow - be baffled by the fact that this game isn't as big of a shift as 64 to Sunshine, or as big of a leap as Sunshine to Galaxy. What people don't seem to make sense of is the fact that this is the first direct sequel in the 3-D Mario chronology. This game doesn't have a fancy new subtitle or anything. It has a "2" tacked on, for crying out loud. It's not going to reinvent the wheel, just like the majority of big-name sequels this generation.

And you know what? People who are scared of seeing "more of the same" ought to just get their disappointment out of the way right now, because according to those in the industry who have played it, that's exactly what we're getting. Yet people are ignoring the tidbits in those hands-on articles that read that "more of the same" is far from a bad thing, considering how critically acclaimed the first title was.

As for the whole "too soon" thing, I think that's probably outweighed by the amount of people who have complained that we only get one new 3-D Mario platform title per generation. Especially with people whining over a supposed lack of quality titles on Wii, you would think this would be exactly what would appease people.

If it seems like I'm being overly-defensive of this game before I even play it, fear not. I have a couple of apprehensions, yes (for instance, the soundtrack has some really high expectations to meet), and there's things I'd like to know more about (such as how the world map system really works, not just what we can tell from mere screenshots). I enjoyed NSMBW and all, but didn't have any motivation to uncover every bitty secret like I did with Galaxy, so this sequel is exactly what I need.

well, I loved the original, it was fun, original, and had that "mario" feeling
unfortunately, I lost it soon after I beat the game, so now I won't feel dissapointed that I'm spending another $50 + tax on a game I already had, because it'll be a sequel

woohoo!!

I only liked this game for the great music and the special debut of Rosalina. The major con i about the game is that it can b finished easily in a week or so.Im hoping that this second one would be longer and more challenging.
