Swear Filters.

There are still people evading swear filters. As of this moment, you will only recieve one warning followed by a one week ban. If you didn't see this announcement, and want to complain, then you're out of luck. It is your responsibility to keep up to date with announcements. The filter is there for a purpose, and if you evade it, you WILL be punished.

Currently, the staff are discussing what should be added and/or removed from the filter, so do not bother discussing what should/shouldn't be on it here, in this thread. If you wish to have some say in it, discuss it in private or by some other medium to a staff member you know.

You may not like what's on the filter right now, but you'll just have to deal with it. Evading it is against the rules, and there is no excuse to intentionally break it. Evasion that is part of a Fic or RPG will be ignored, however, evasion in a Fic or RPG as a response will have action taken toward it.

If you wish to reply to this thread, take into consideration the following, and pay special attention to the bold/underlined portion:

3. Spam

It's not as a bad as it probably was, but spam is getting to be a bit of a problem now. How do you know your post is spam? Generally there some axioms that tell whether a post is spam or not.

The post/topic...

• Is obviously stupid, pointless, and annoying. e.g. "peekachew is teh r0x0rs!!!111!!" or "in before lock"
• Does not contribute or is off topic. e.g. Topic about Manafi: "Manafi is the new Pokemon!" or "There should be a new battle system for D/P"
• Flames someone. e.g "Latios sucks!" or "j00 n00b"
• Attempts to say something with no information to provide a better understanding. e.g. "Latios isn't a good mod." (Will be treated as spam if something isn't provided within a few days).
• Makes absolutely no sense. e.g. "OMFG I LIKE CAUGHT THIS MEWTWO AND THEN I TRADED MY CARD FOR A HOLO AND I ROXORS J00 YOUR TEAMS SUXORS LOLZ"
• Advertises. e.g. "Visit my forums now!"

But otherwise, it's up to the moderator's discretion what's spam.

I know I posted that quote many times, but it is an important thing to follow.

Also, a few reminders:

1. Check the Announcements forum regularly, since things happen quickly. I would say at least once a day would suffice. It doesn't take much effort to see if a new topic appears.
2. Check the Complete Signature Rules thread regularly for updates and amendments on signature rules. Always check the first post in that thread, and check at least the last two pages worth of posts as well.
3. Remember to always read the first post of a thread in its entirety if it is a discussion topic. You should also skim through at least the first full page, and the two most recent pages worth of posts.

^these are ones you need to pay attention to^ however, any derivatives that would/could be considered derogatory should be avoided. Use common sense.

For the purpose of this thread, the entire word, however, you shouldn't do any sort of evasions.

What about unintentionally evading it? Like I was explaining a term to someone the other day (GTFO), and thus did the whole "Get The [spoil]Fuck[/spoil] Out"

And I forgot that bolding it made it evade the filter. :/ I assume cases like this won't be punished...?

I'm not sure on this, but common sense suggests that filter bypassing is 'any means in which the intended swear word is in any way apparent (including formatting to make letters visible or using symbols in place of letters) or narrowing the possibilities to where the word can be guessed at by means other than counting the # of letters (giving away one or more letters and self filtering the rest, i.e. a**). sorry if this was answered, it took me a while to type...

I realy don't care. I don't swear too often. These are all my opinions, and you are subject to do whatever you feel about them. But I know that other people do and I believe that it should be in their power to evade if they want to. Sometimes swear words are necessary. Sometimes they are not. Most of the members here are mature, and the ones that aren't are the ones who cause things like spam. It doesn't take a genious to figure that out. People really should learn to grow up. If they see a bad word and start making a fuss about it, they generally aren't mentally fit to handle a forum imo.

In all honesty, the swear filter is just a contradiction. People who are mature enough to handle it are the ones who bypass it, while the ones who can't handle it are the ones who aren't shouldn't be on a forum in the first place.

And while I'm at it, even though I know it won't really do anything, I don't think an*l should be on the list. Atleat not if you're going to use it as another piece of a word. Whatever you call that. Again, these are all my opinions, and you are subject to do whatever you feel about them.

Profanity is never necessary, never. When is it ever needed? I'd like to see an example where profanity is needed, and there isn't another option, be it by dropping the word, using an alternate word, or rephrasing the sentence.

Also, its not a matter of who can/cannot handle it, its a matter of preference. Not to mention the fact that you don't need to use profanity in what you say.

On a final note, I don't believe ANAL is on censor anymore.

just asking, but is it possible to have the swear filter filter it to another word rather then just a bunch of asterieks?

on another fourm I go to... some words get filtered to other words. Like the N-word is filtered to "Grandma" and such.

I say you should set racial slurs to say "lolz im so racist 8D" or something of the sort. Same goes for the usage homosexual derogatory words.

Yeah, swears aren't necessary. Though I still say it'd be better off saying not to overuse them or not to use them against anyone. :s But that's just me.
