Because we all know this forum's filled with innocence.

Actual quotes from around the forum:

Obviously i would go on a journey to find may and peek on her taking a bath
Well, Psychic claimed him cause Psychic wants Mewtwo in between the sheets, and because Psychic owns Mewtwo, she can have Mewtwo in between the sheets.
The tentacle-hentai monster that is Tentacruel.
You see that? I can honestly say with a straight face, not even lying, that I would most definately have sex with a Gardevoir, anthro or not. I'm not kidding or joking. It just oozes with sex appeal. I love it. I wish I was kidding, but I'm not.
I like Misty, 'cause her skin-tight clothing looks better than May's in my opinion.(Notice how her shorts are skin tight leaving little to the imagination. And May just has those cute little breasts.)
On the subject of Misty, I was disappointed to see she was wearing a relatively modest swimsuit. I was expecting to find her in a risque (pardon my spelling) outfit in a sexy position.

The people of this forum are hardly what I'd call "innocent," what with their sexual innuendo.

Funny we get on swearing but innuendo is a-okay.

You know ~.~ Ideally, we wouldn't need filters, have to have many banned users, have to put up so many rules and redundancies.

A lot of the crap around here is due to people's low tolerance for things. A lot of us are satisfied with the users we know, and the friends we've made so we're not giving new users a chance.

The moment someone new comes in and makes a mistake, sometimes blatantly obvious to us, we yell at them, pull the whole "THERE ARE RULES n00b" thing, and shun them off, or scare them away.

I applaud everyone's efforts in the newbie lounge who are welcoming the new members and showing them how not to get yelled at, however, for doing things, they shouldn't have to get yelled at.

I noticed a lot of the members, staff, and myself included are tired of having to say the same things over and over again. However, 'foruming' is a learning process. You're always learning, making mistakes, getting better. Only a few people truly turn bad, and those are the people who should be scared off.

I'm almost going to go as far to say that being new should be an excuse for making mistakes, because that's just what they are, mistakes. People make them. I've made mistakes. I've banned people on accident, posted in the wrong forum, wrong thread, made a copy of an already exisiting thread, banned everyone from chat. I've learned from them all, and I expect myself to make more mistakes, but I'm still learning.

I'm getting tired of hearing people just complain and complain, and be just totally lame to others, disrespecting their beliefs, not bothering to see things from other people's point of view, etc.

As for this whole swearing issue, I feel that swearing does emphasize ideas and points, but its never needed. If you were to be in court and try to 'emphasize' your points to the judge/jury, would they really take you seriously? Swearing may be 'cool' or common, but so are many other things, things that even get people killed.

We've lost the ideas of having general fun, common courtesy, a place for everyone. I'll admit that not everyone will find a place here. Some people just don't have the kind of personality to come here.

Anyway, I kind of lost my train of thought there, but there's another thing I'd like to address in this semi-rant. Normally, I'd go to the staff forums to post stuff like this, but not this time lol.

I'll admit that I've been anal retentive about rules and stuff, and I apologize if I insulted anybody's intelligence or whatever. I let my frustration get ahold of me, and that was no excuse, though I would like it when people reply to my topics to stay on-topic >>;

Anyway, to the rest of the staff; we have a responsibility to make sure EVERYONE here remains happy and/or satisfied, we don't have mod, mod+, SMod, or Admin powers to satisfy our own needs/wants, its for the users, to make sure that they come and go not having to worry about being called names, feel belittled, etc.

Some of you who read this will be like "lolz internetz" but look at yourselves. Some of you made friends, some really good friends, some have found love or other things. If all you have to say is "lolz internetz", then your friends shouldn't matter to you, you shouldn't care when they're insulted or such.

As for those of you who have issues with the staff, or inactive mods, well let me tell you this. The current staff is being dealt with, we have discussions about it, and we are also looking to new additions and reassignments almost constantly. You may soon see some of our staff lose their powers. As for inactive mods and such, there's no need to insult them or question how they got their positions. Sciz and Cayenne were the best Admin these forums have ever seen. Regularly active, friendly to all, making sure these forums stayed fun. Jasmine was another fun member of the staff. She always did things to get people to laugh or smile. Sure some of the things seemed stupid, but it was for the fun of things. They got lives now, and I'm happy for them. Its unfortunate for the forums that they had to go, but there's no need to question/rag on them for anything.

As for Joe's authority and decisions, yes he does make questionable choices, and he does do odd things, but after knowing him on these for a while and seeing how he reacts to things, I can understand his positions. A lot of you like to gang up on him and force your opinions onto him, that will NEVER work. Joe's a man of reasoning, and you get best results when talking one-on-one with him. A lot of the people here who used to make fun of or question Joe a lot got to know him, and understand him better.

If you notice, a lot of things happen around here when they aren't as big of a deal. Joe probably would be twenty times more willing to add ***** avatars if he weren't so pressed on them. He'd upgrade the forums regularly on his own when he has the time. He does most of his decisions in the interests of the forums as a whole, and not as a stubborn dictator as some of you put it.

I do disagree with a lot of what Joe does, but I take the time to talk to him about it and reason with him to get things done. Some of this includes the Competetive RMT forum. I had a two hour long talk with him about it to try to get it done. Nobody's rants or complaints did anything.

Now, I admit that I feel like a major 'brown noser' here doing stuff like Scans for the site and publicly agreeing to some of Joe's decisions, and doing other things for the site, which I asked not to get credit for, but I do it for the convenience of the users. I make avatars not for recognition, but to give people more choices. Hence why I made that thread. I also try to do things for the best interest of the forums and its members, however, I feel I went away from that a bit in my irritation and frustration.

ANYWAY, back on-topic as for this censor thing, I feel that until the members of this forum can prove that they can treat each other with respect and at least a little bit of tolerance, we need to keep this to a minimum. Ideally we wouldn't need it, and people would be able to control it. Ideally we wouldn't have people going around saying "lol n00b" all the time, but people can't show a little self-control and respect for other users. So yeah, evade the filter, risk being banned.

With all that said, I'm going to do something fun D:

I, for one, am glad to see this rule enforced. By no means do people need to swear to emphasize their points; if they simply describe their stances with enough cogency they can tap into the minds of the opposition just as easy if not more effectively. I'm sure I've evaded it in the past, but I can hardly remember when, where, and how many times, but I know I have never used it for some mighty long time after my last usage of it. I certainly don't need it especially considering how I am lauded for my whimsical prose, but I must state that even the least eloquent of writers need not to resort to such scandalous trash talk. :(

I just have two questions about the rule about which I am unclear:

1. If we are PMing close friends, would the use of swears be allowable? After all, the two do know each other very well and the swears would not be leaving the PMs.
2. Are we allowed to evade the censor on a word if we aren't applying it to a profane use?

That is all.

1. Yes
2. No

46. Do you speak like that naturally, or do you do that to impress, or a mix of both? [you should probably answer this in PM lol]

Okay, thanks for clarifying those parts. I don't quite understand the answer to the second question, though, but if that's how it works I will uphold it.

With everything I said, and that was said already in this thread, all I have to say is:

Anyway, to get the point across, you're not supposed to get past the filter. If you do, you're breaking a rule. So yeah, don't evade the filter.

Fox- You and Latios are really making me think, which is a good thing, I guess because I kinda realizaed we are too harsh on the memebers, even the so called "Noobs" anyone remeber Hyper Chibi Absol, she started out as what you would call one, but then she improved...

And what about the really senstuive people out there? I once was one of them aleast 5 years ago or more...If I had bene called a noob I would have been offerended then.

Or the net excuse, people came to the net to escape reailtry, not to have it wrosened on the net...

Or when someone says I will commit sucide we push them forward and laugh...And that doesn't make it right, we just make it wrose,..

See, I said Fox and Latios started to get me thinking, and someone else before them, and a teacher before them...

Ok Enough You two...don't forget who owns, maintains & runs this forum...me, not you Ed. Latios is being a good SMod as he is following the rules and guidelines I have set and is trying to enforce the rules I have set unlike you Ed who QUESTIONS EVERY THING I DO.

Swearing is absolutely 100% un-necessary, and for the record I'd prefer it if people didnt censor it as in sh*t...just let the censor censor it for cryin out loud

Latios is absolutely right that by cussing, the validity and point of your post goes right out the window and really you don't get taken seriously

And lets not forget that this forum does have kids on it and regardless of whether they know the words or not, there is no reason what so ever to expose them to profanity

As such, Joe, your post has been made pointless, because you swore. You censored it, but it's still there.

(The below part of the post is merely trying to get a point across..)

There's a bit of an issue with the word dick; it can either be a name or an insult. This should probably be the only discrepancy... Observe!
"Hey there, Dick, You know who's such a dick? Yeah, Jimmy. Man, that kid's a dick." (I hear people talk like this all the time in real life.)

The problem with making censors case-sensitive for this is that some kids type like they failed first grade writing, without capitalizing names, etc., so it might get censored if it's just harmlessly making mention to someone's name. This also would make it possible to evade by capitalizing the D, or whatever.

But I guess this was common knowledge.

That was an example, he didn't use the word itself.

As for dick, well, we can all assume that people know not to use it that way, else we'd have to add it to censors...

You know, there are a lot of people who use swear words in a mature fashion. :/

Not just "F*ckity f*ckity f*ck" for the heck of it.

Sometimes to express anger or emotion, i.e. replying to an article that is disturbing, you might say "That's bullshit" or something of that sort.
Besides, most of the swearing goes on in the Misc. Discussion forum, and that is where the majority of the mature people who can handle this kind of talk lurk.

But of course, that is never taken into account. the only argument we get is 'OMG IT'S 100% UNNECESSARY AND THERE IS NO REASON TO SWEAR AT ALL OMGS'. ...the internet is unnecessary too, but we still use it. Watching TV is unecessary too but we still do it. Hell *Pokemon* is unecessary but we still like/play/watch it. Yeah it can make us look unintelligent and we can even insult people through it, but that's if we use it wrong. ('lol ur miltaenk is t3 sux roflll', etc)

People can even use NORMAL words and sound stupid. So I don't see what the big deal is. They're just words. You can get to people worse with normal words than with swearing.

Remember, yes there are some children here but the majority of active members are *older*. It's not like we all swear every other word or something.

And for the record, Serebii, Ed only questions the things you do when it involves the welfare of the board/the majority opinion/a matter of common sense. Thought I'd throw that out there.

As I've mentioned before, its a matter of self control. If perhaps people would learn to control themselves, and limit it, then it'd probably be acceptable. People, and I'm not just talking about newbies, 'n00bs', and the likes, can't even control themselves when not using profanity.

Besides, the point is that its not a small handfull of members who don't like it. You keep saying that this is the internet, and while that's true, the 'rules' of the internet don't have to apply to SPPf. We're trying to please as many people as we can. People take offense to profanity, hence why we're trying to stop it. You can do your part by cutting it out, simple as that. You say they won't die from this, as they're just words. Well, you won't die from not using them. You also said that they're just words, but there's meaning behind those words.

And heres yet another thread thats gone on and on over nothing.

Theres a filter. Sadly its not going anywhere. Dont evade it.

Whoo the end. That was hard.

This is a site dedicated to pokemon, it doesn't matter if YOU'RE 28, it's going to attract younger audiences. It also doesn't matter if that majority of us are older, there are still younger kids here that shouldn't be subject to it. And don't give me "well they spam" or "if they don't like it, they can leave". That's crap. If you're going to evade the filters, then you obviously dislike the rules and therefor YOU can leave. And no, you can't use profanity in a "mature fashion" saying (and I quote) "That's ********" makes you sound whiny. If you can't talk without swearing, we shouldn't have to read it. In the end none of your whining and complaining will matter, these are the rules... deal with it and don't evade the filters.

I think it's the right thing to do, kudos to Serebii and the mods that are supporting this decision.

And once again, I link to my post on the "innocence" of the members of this forum: http://forums.serebiiforums.com/showpost.php?p=2848419&postcount=47

Might I also add that a majority of said people are YOUNGER than I am?

OMG YOU'RE RIGHT! They're already using these sexual innuendos as signatures and in their posts, we might as well make every topic unrecognizable by throwing profanity into the mix. And most of them are younger than you? So what?! That makes it all the more necessary, there's nothing more irritating than a 13 year old who thinks swearing makes him cool.

If you really feel the need to swear/see swearing... go write all of the profanity you know on a piece of paper and stare at it, that should be a sufficient "fix" shouldn't it?

Chris

Old Coot
Way to miss the point. You're saying we have many people here who are young and shouldn't be subjected to profanity, yet the same group of kids are throwing around sexual innuendo and desires.

And last I checked, no one's swearing here just to "look cool." That's the same illogical thought pattern people use when they see things happening they don't agree with. Similar to those who disagree with me using Japanese names.

Blah blah blah, filter's there. Nothing can be done. This post isn't arguing about the filters but rather how wrong some people are in thinking this board's filled with innoncent children with virgin eyes and ears.

Greatone

Cascade Trainer
And where did I say the board was filled with innocent children? And I understood your point completely, it was you who missed mine. My point was that yes, they're throwing around sexual innuendos and desires, but this isn't what it's about. This is about stopping the swearing. They're unrelated. Maybe one day something will be done to stop the sexual innuendos, but for now the swearing is unnecessary.
