Swearing

I feel like swearing adds to the gravity of what you are trying to communicate.

Person X: "I'm mad!"

Person Y: "I am so fuck!n mad!"

I'm more likely to leave person Y alone.

I swear like a trooper and I honestly don't see anything wrong with it. They're just words. People need to calm the f-ck down and take things lightly. What's a word going to do to you? Insults without swear words can come off as much more offensive.

Maybe it's just because I live in a place where nobody cares (Australia) and it's practically part of the culture, but I fail to see how it can be offensive.

Certain people get offended by swearing because they've been taught swear words are bad. It just comes back to sensitivity.

In my opinion (which opinions are like a********; everyone has one) swearing is bad because instead of using real verbs or what not people go around say f that or f this. So number one how many different ways can you f something. Secondly it makes someone sound stupid due to a shallow vocabulary pool. It is because if someone swears all the time, those words will seem like a staple to that persons vocabulary and they are limited by it's uses to communicate. Therefore in my opinion swearing is bad because it hampers communication. use the words you mean to use because when the cat trips you and you say f in' cat, i'm sure you don't mean the same thing as what you where doing to a women last weekend even though that's what you've just said to all your boys.

I could say I have a huge vocabulary. In fact, I as called a dictionary by my friends for several years. Yet I swear because it conveys a certain...emotion to the situation. You could say, "Oh, I don't want to do this. This sucks." or you could say, "Fck this, this is complete bullsh!t." Which has more emphasis?

I never swear. But every once in a while something will slip out!

In my own opinion, uses of swears should be few and far-between. They're to be used when you're mad, and nothing else. I mean, I don't really care if a person is consistently swearing, but in most cases those people are just deprived of a reasonable vocabulary and use swearing to either get respect or be "cool". It also depends what swear is being said. I can stand the simple damn, s*** or hell, but when people start using God d***it, f*** or a**, I find that very immature, annoying and just plain stupid, especially when used as an insult. Unfortunately, these swears seems to be commonly used in our culture. What I also find stupid is when the swears are randomly used, such as "What the f***?" It's not just swears, too. I absolutely hate words that imply derogatory remarks about homosexuality or race. Like I said, I can stand the occasion hell, but swears can be overused.

This basically sums up my opinion. Swears need to stop being overused.

I don't see anything wrong with it, unless it's in an environment where it's socially inappropriate (work, around children, etc.) They're just words, they don't offend you if you don't let them.

I swear freely unless I am around my best friend who doesn't like it. I use it to emphasize myself or to write my stories. I don't see what's wrong with it as long as it's not being used as a weapon to attack others.

I was a dumb kid back then. Whenever someone cursed, i used to say "ooh he said *insert swear here*"

People swear all the time now. I remember when a buddy curse around me. I said "Dude, stop cursing man." I am not offended. It just sound like a broken record. If ya piss off, you swear. If ya making a funny joke, people swear in their funny joke. But if it somebody who swear like 7 time in a row in the matter of 30 seconds. Then swear 14 time in the row after 30 seconds. You gonna shut wanna shut him or her up.

I swear to get a point across. I swear at somebody if they deserve it. I swear at the cop who pulls me over at twelve AM when I'm just trying to go to McDonald's and get something to eat.

I swear a lot, actually.

bro tip: one looks pretty unintelligent if they openly admit that they think swearing makes people look unintelligent

swearing is a big deal because words have context and connotations, if there was a such thing as words being "just words" then you're missing the point of language entirely

Swearing to me indicates a lack of self-control, and I'm not fond of it. I use it rarely for comedic purposes with friends, but that's all. And also when I stub my toe.

Bulletproof

Self explanatory.
Swearing just irks me when it seems forced into a sentence for the purpose of allowing you to look mature or "cool". Swearing isn't a substitute to get a point across, or comedy(debatable). If you swear at the slightest disturbance, it only show a limited vocabulary. Derogatory swears about someone race or sexualilty further irritates me, just me look at you as immature.
