Beginning Trainer
This is question most do when planning a sweeper. I have the answer.
1st:ATTACK POWER. With attacking moves you want damage right? So, attack power is obviously a factor.
2nd:ACCURRACY. You want to HIT with power, so accurracy counts too.
3rd:CRITICAL HIT RATIO. For most moves it's 1/16(6.25%), but for some it's 6/16(37.5).
4th:ADDED EFFECTS. You know: paralysis, flinch, etc.
5th:STAB. self explainig.
Then you do this formula to measure all these factors in a single one.
This will find the average damage given by the attacks:
AD=(((AP*STAB)*acc.)*CHR)/16
AP=attack power
STAB=same type attack bonus(if applied 1.5 if not 1)
acc.=accurracy in decimals(example:0.70 for thunder)
CHR=critical hit ratio(17 if standard, 22 if high)
EXAMPLE:
Let's do this with the popular physical attacking move earthquake being used by Tyranitar=
AD=(((100*1)*1.00)*17)/16
AD=((100*1.00)*17)/16
AD=(100*17)/16
AD=1700/16
AD=106.25
Got to a number, 106
And what if this same Tyranitar used Rock Slide?
AD=(((75*1.5)*0.90)*17)/16
AD=((112.5*0.90)*17)/16
AD=(101.25*17)/16
AD=1721.25/16
AD=~107.58
So, this Tyranitar would be better using Rock Slide than Earthquake because of STAB.
You ask: and the added effects?
Then it becomes like this
Earthquake=106.25
Rock Slide=~107.58+1/3 flinch, meaning it has a 1/3 chance of flinching the foe
