They're just symbols to mark your Pokemon. What they represent is up to you.

diamond? that for me it´s a ball...well, circle

they are there to organise the pokemon in boxes, like
ball in box 1,
square in box 2,
triangle in 3,
Heart in 4,
ball+square in 5,
ball+triangle in 6,
ball+heart in 7,
square+triangle in 8,
square+heart in 9,
triangle+heart in 10,
ball+square+triangle in 11
ball+square+heart in 12
ball+triangle+heart in 13
and square+triangl+heart in 14.

I think I may know what the heart meens. I think it may meen that you have a strong friendship with your pokemon.

They don't mean anything you can put on the pokemon you want so you know somthing like "heart are contest pokemon" or to know what pokemon are borrowed and what pokemon you caught and things like that

I use the symbols for marking contest winners and a special combo of the marks show that the Pokemon is in my main team.

In my game I have a mew I traded from someone that I increased its contest stats and I got all of the master ribbons with it!!! I had to use the scarfs though.
