Tales of Kami (Sign-ups)

Hotshot

Well-Known Member
Imagine yourself wandering down a road in the countryside of Japan. It's past midnight, and the moon has by now reached its peak in the clear night sky. Under the moonlight, you can make out fields of grain blowing back and forth in the chill, night air. Suddenly, you see a faint blue light in the distance, looming ominously beyond the cloak of night. As you approach, you begin to perceive the form of a young woman garbed in a scanty kimono, seated at the foot of a shrine. In her hands she holds a paper lantern, its ghostly blue flame flickering within. You draw nearer and note that the woman is stunningly beautiful, with silk-white hair, shining eyes, and an attractive figure.

Her amber-colored eyes meet yours, and she holds you in a captivating gaze. She smiles.

“Greetings, traveler. You must be weary from your journey,” she says, placing the lantern on the ground and rising.

“Please, make yourself comfortable.” She moves toward you and lays a hand on your shoulder. She leans in close to your face, her elegant perfume filling your nostrils. “My name is Mae, and I will tell you a story; a story about a young man...”

Her lips brush against your ear as she whispers, “...and the kami.

(Just to be safe - Rated PG-13 for epic violence, use of alcohol, possible suggestive themes)

A long, long time ago, before the Sun and Moon were brought into being, there were only two spirits. They were the first divinities, the first kami, Izanagi and Izanami. Izanagi stirred the empty seas with his heavenly spear, Ame-no-Nuboko, and formed land. His wife, Izanami, called the land “Ashihara-no-Nakatsukuni.”

And so, the middle ground between the heavens, Takamagahara, and the underworld, Yomi, was created. Not long after, however, Izanami died in childbirth. Izanagi sought after her, searching into the very bowels of the underworld itself. He found her there, but was appalled by what she had become. His bride now ruled Yomi as the Goddess of the Dead. When he saw her, he fled, and she pursued him furiously. Izanagi sealed the gate to the underworld shut, and hid it for all eternity.

As he washed the impurities of Yomi from his divine form, Izanagi created three new kami: Amaterasu of the Sun, Tsukuyomi of the Moon, and Susanoo of the Storm. Hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of kami have come into being since that day. But Izanagi disappeared, and Izanami has remained trapped within the underworld ever since.

A thousand years have passed, and the land of Ashihara has come a long way. Humans and yokai (mystical spirits and creatures) inhabit the land. Sacred shrines and temples honoring the kami can be found in every village and even in the wilderness. The people of Ashihara are kami-fearing and worship the great spirits like gods. For, in a way, that is what they are.

The country is fragmented, with regional powers dominating pieces of the land. Some areas are ruled by men, some by communities of yokai, and some directly by a kami. Despite the disunity, Ashihara has remained a peaceful land for many years. But all of that is about to change.

An unknown evil has escaped the confines of the underworld; an evil with the power to level mountains, raze forests, drain rivers, and devastate the land. And this evil’s very presence threatens to awaken an evil greater still. This evil seeks the key to throwing open the gates of Yomi and unleashing the darkness that slumbers within. If this were to happen, Ashihara would crumble and Takamagahara would fall.

This evil's mere presence has been enough to significantly weaken the very kami themselves. Many have mysteriously vanished, leaving no trace. Others have gone into hiding, refusing to answer the people's call for fear they might also disappear entirely. But, recognizing the danger of the situation at hand, the greater of the kami are rallying together. Should this evil be allowed to roam the spiritual planes freely, the link between the spiritual and physical realms could be broken entirely, and the underworld could be unleashed to ravage Ashihara. Even now the seal is weakening. Something wants to get out.

The hope of Ashihara now rests on the strategic minds of the kami. The pieces are in place. They've chosen the pawns they will use to vanquish the evil...to save both heaven and earth from utter devastation.

This is the tale.

=========================

Where you come in:
You will be roleplaying as either a human or a yokai (or both, should you choose to have two characters) who has been unknowingly chosen for a mission. You’ll start off in Suzuka, an unfortunate village right smack in the middle of Ashihara. You might be an inhabitant of this village, or perhaps just a traveler passing by. Maybe you’re visiting relatives. Maybe you live there, maybe you don’t. Either way, this is where your adventure will begin when things take a turn for the worse.

RULES: (Read them or the oni will eat your soul.)
1. Follow all SPPF and RPG forum rules.
2. This is a PG-13 rated RPG, for (epic) violence, use of alcohol, and suggestive themes.
3. There will be no flaming, spamming, or trolling. Oniing, maybe. Trolling, no.
4. Use proper grammar, punctuation, and capitalization.
5. Please, please, please...only sign up if you are going to post. And try to stick with the RPG if you are accepted.
6. I am accepting reservations. You have ONE WEEK to sign up after you reserve. After that, your reservation will be canceled (but you can still sign up).
7. You may sign up with up to two characters. Once the RPG starts, many opportunities to create NPCs will arise, so sit tight with two until then.
8. Oh, and if you choose to have two characters, at least one of those characters needs to be HUMAN.
9. Lastly, HAVE FUN!

RACESWhat will you be?
Keep in mind that the relations between humans and most yokai (monsters; basically anything that is not human) are not very good. Most yokai aren’t very welcome in human villages, and especially not in human cities, and vice-versa. There are a few exceptions to this rule, as in the case of Inugami, which are commonly seen. Other yokai often take on the forms of humans so that they may live in peace within the human villages.

Human
Description: Humans are the dominant race in Ashihara. They are the most naturally kami-like in appearance and personality, and, as such, are often considered (by their own kind, mostly) to be the most important of the races. Humans have formed cities and villages, and are ruled by an emperor. They have a passion for creating, much like the kami. Unlike the other races, average humans have no magical abilities of their own power. Rather, magic powers are drawn from other sources, such as kami-worship or special items (swords, jewelry, etc.). They are the most balanced of the races, being moderately strong, fast, and intelligent, though they have very limited magical power. There are a few exceptions to this rule of magic, however.

Human classes:
- Samurai – Samurai are perhaps the most highly esteemed. They are warriors, through and through, and always fight for honor. They are often much slower on their feet than ninja or monks, but possess greater physical strength. Many are considered great strategists. There is very, very little magical prowess found among samurai.
- Onna-bugeisha - The female counterpart to the samurai class, the onna-bugeisha share the same mindsets, but are not as physically strong. They are usually more agile and possess much the same magical capacity as their male counterparts.
- Ronin – Ronin are the dishonored counterpart to the samurai. They are either rogues who have left the respectful principles of a samurai behind and prefer to shed blood for themselves, rather than for others OR they are swordsmen who have lost their masters and now have nowhere to go. They’re essentially the same as samurai in terms of skill and ability, but possess very different principles.
- Ninja/Kunoichi – Ninja are both despised for their deceitful, cunning ways and upheld for those same methods. They excel at stealth and assassination, and, as such, wield weapons that complement this style. Magic is uncommon among ninja, though there are some who dabble in the dark and demonic arts. Kunoichi is the female version of a ninja.
- Yamabushi – Hermit-warriors who are well-versed in the magic arts. They wear robes and tunics, and are highly trained in martial artistry and the many different kinds of magic. Most yamabushi do not use weapons, preferring instead to engage enemies using their bodies as weapons.
- Miko - Shrine maidens charged with the care of small shrines dispersed throughout Ashihara. They are extremely well-versed in the magic arts. Miko wear traditional attire: a white haori and red hakama (though they may change into travel-clothes or more suitable garb for battle).
- Sohei - Sohei are monks who are capable of wielding both magic and weapons rather effectively. They are not solitary warriors like the yamabushi, and instead fight mostly commonly in organized groups. They are most commonly found in great temples.

Kappa
Description: Kappa are fun-loving water monsters who resemble monstrous turtles. Their heads are open at the top, and filled with water. This is where they obtain their strength. If the water spills, they are sapped of their energy, and crumple on the ground until they die of dehydration or their heads are filled again. They have a very odd love of cucumbers, and will do almost anything to obtain one. Kappa are a more strength-oriented race, and very fast in the water. Out of water, however, they’re (pardon the pun) all washed up. Intelligence and magic is something most of them lack.

Kitsune (CLOSED)
Description: Kitsune are magical foxes and servants of Inari. Because of their ability to change shape (usually into buxom beauties), they are often considered to be tricksters or seductresses. While this may be true for some, not all kitsune are like this. Some are actually quite fond of humans and wish to live among them, although their mischievous or seductive natures do tend to show up every now and then. Kitsune are judged in power and wisdom by the number of tails they possess. The most tails a kitsune can have is nine, and there is only one nine-tailed kitsune in known-existence. Kitsune in general are fast and intelligent, but lack much physical strength. Their magical power is very great. Kitsune are strictly female yokai. Inari likes them better that way.
Note: Inari’s kitsune-messengers are silk-white. As such, this color will be off-limits for any PC kitsune. Your kitsune character may be red, orange, silver, or even gold...but not white.

Bakeneko/Nekomata (a bakeneko has one tail, while a nekomata has two)
Description: Bakeneko are cat spirits. Because of their ability to change shape, they are usually considered to be mischief-makers, and for good reason. They enjoy playing tricks on humans, and even other yokai. When a bakeneko reaches full-power and maturity, its tail splits in two, and it becomes a nekomata. Bakeneko and nekomata can transform into nearly anything, but prefer the forms of beautiful women or young girls. Like the kitsune, they are fast, intelligent, and magical, but without much physical strength.

Tanuki
Description: Tanuki are shape-shifters that most often look like plump raccoons. They are renowned for having large *ahem*, and many choose to flaunt them shamelessly. These creatures have powerful transformation magic and can take the form of just about anything (they will most commonly choose to masquerade as chubby old men). They possess great magical prowess and immense wisdom, but are typically very slow and not very strong.

Tengu/Daitengu (a daitengu is a more powerful tengu)
Description: Tengu are a type of yokai that resemble humans with avian characteristics. While human-like in appearance, they usually sport large bird wings and long noses, because their transformation magic is imperfect. Every tengu carries a bird mask to use when it wishes to become its more monstrous, bird-of-prey form. Tengu are the self-proclaimed guardians of forests and mountain passes, and can be found in those locations in abundance. They are fast and strong, but not very intelligent. Daitengu, however, are very smart, and have powerful magical abilities.
Note: The tengu aren’t exactly very friendly toward outsiders...and will be some of our first enemies...so if you choose to sign up as a tengu/daitengu, then your character needs to be either an outcast or from a faraway tengu clan.

Inugami
Description: Inugami are dog spirits, and are extremely powerful and capable of shape-shifting. Despite being perfectly capable of existing independently, most usually prefer to live with their masters as watchful and bold companions. Inugami can be found almost anywhere, and are often summoned to fight for their masters. They are the most commonly seen of the yokai. People have grown accustomed to seeing them here and there. Inugami lack physical strength, but they are fast and highly intelligent. They have an immense amount of magical prowess.

Yuki-Onna
Description: Yuki-onna are female spirits of winter and snow. They most commonly take the form of beautiful young women or girls and are extremely pale in complexion. They are ghosts of women who died in the snowy wilderness, forced to wander the land. These spirits can tend to be seductive and malicious, and have been known to, at times, sleep with men just to leave them dead (from frostbite) the next morning. They have an immense amount of magical prowess.

Kamaitachi
Description: Kamaitachi are sickle-wielding weasels. Their motto is “strike before stricken,” and they follow it excellently. They are masters of speed and quick attacks, and are capable of flooring even enemies four times their size. They are quick-witted, and extremely skilled at surprising opponents with their speed. They exist in areas with tall grass. Kamaitachi rely primarily on their speed and intelligence, and let their momentum do the rest. They can use wind magic, but little else of the magic-kind.

Kijimuna
Description: Kijimuna are friendly, but impish, forest spirits who resemble small, tanned children and have fiery red hair. They are adept fishermen, but have an irrational fear of the octopus...even very small ones. Most of the time, these small creatures go about wearing nothing but grass skirts, but will on occasion garb themselves in other forms of clothing. They tend to have bad memory. Kijimuna are quick and very magical, but lack much physical strength and intelligence. They spend most of their time in forests fishing in rivers.

Harionago
Description: Harionago look every bit an average woman with long hair. But looks can be deceiving, because make these women mad, and you’re in for it. Their hair is barbed and can be used as a formidable weapon. A harionago has full control over her hair, and can use it as whips or to entangle enemies. These yokai are usually quite vain, and nearly always have a mirror handy with which to view themselves. There’s usually a comb or a brush that can be found on their person as well. They are prone to anger and can be quite brutal. They possess much of the same ability as an average human, but with barbed hair.

Note: You may have noticed that the option for roleplaying oni (demons – powerful inhabitants of the underworld), shojo (red-haired, usually-drunk monkey-men), and many other yokai is not present. This is because the oni are currently confined to Yomi and many of the other yokai (shojo included) will play a large role in the storyline. Fear not, the option for creating NPCs (and eventually PCs) of these and many other beloved creatures (yes, even the kami themselves) will arise as the RPG progresses.

THE TALES OF KAMI GUIDE TO MAGIC:
Ashihara is home to many different forms of magic, which have been passed down from generation to generation. These forms of magic include, but are not limited to:
- Transformation Magic (one of the most common forms of magic; altering the appearance of oneself; used most by kitsune, bakeneko/nekomata, tanuki, tengu, and inugami)
- Summoning Magic (a form of magic that involves calling upon the help of a spirit or monster to aid you; typically used by monks to summon yokai to their aid)
- Elemental Magic (the magic of fire, wind, water, lightning, earth, and darkness; mostly used for offensive purposes, such as attacking an enemy)
- Healing Magic (a form of magic that involves the healing of another using supernatural means)
- Dispelling Magic (a form of magic that involves the dispelling of evil spirits; used most commonly by monks to ward off demons and ghosts)
- Sealing Magic (one of the most strenuous forms of magic; can be utilized by only the most skilled of magic-users; involves the sealing of a soul or demon by forcing it into an inanimate object)
- Forbidden Magic (the most powerful magic known to Ashihara; only those capable of wielding the powers of the primordial kami, Izanagi and Izanami, can learn this magic)

IMPORTANT PLACES:
Ashihara-no-Nakatsukuni – the “Middle Country of Reed Beds.” Essentially, the earthly realm which lies between Takamagahara and Yomi. The realm where mortals and yokai dwell.

Yomi – the Underworld; ruled by Izanami. The entrance (the gate called Yomotsuhirasaka) lies deep within the great temple in Izumo and has been sealed for a thousand years.

Takamagahara – the “High Plain of Heaven.” Connected to Ashihara-no-Nakatsukuni by way of a bridge called Ama-no-Uki-Hashi (the "Floating Bridge of Heaven").

Izumo – small country town in the west that is surrounded by mountains on every side. Every October, the Kami gather here in a great temple to discuss the fate of humanity and the love affairs of individuals (Musubi usually brings this up). This is known as the Assembly of the Gods.

Suzuka – very small village where our little adventure begins.

Kyoto – bustling market-city of Ashihara-no-Nakatsukuni.

Hot Springs (Onsen) – there are many hot springs located all across Ashihara. They are usually run by kitsune, shojo, or the kami themselves. (This is where the fun happens...)

IMPORTANT SHRINES/TEMPLES:
Izumo Temple – the temple in Izumo where the kami gather once a year for the Assembly of the Gods.

Ise Shrine – the sacred shrine of Amaterasu, the Kami of the Sun. The entrance to this shrine is the Honden Shrine.

Kumano Shrine – a shrine dedicated to Susanoo, the Kami of the Storm and Seas.

Kasama Shrine – one of many shrines that house Inari, the Kami of Rice and Kitsune.

SIGN UP FORM:
Name: (Simple, right? Eh...no. Names must be Japanese, and shouldn’t be something utterly random. Nicknames, however, may be in another language, so long as it’s believable.)
Age: (Make it realistic. Yokai typically live longer than humans do.)
Gender: (Yes, you have to choose one.)
Race: (Use one of the races listed above, unless you can come up with a good reason why you want to use an unmentioned race.)
Class: (Only applicable for human sign ups. Samurai, Ronin, Ninja, etc.)
Appearance: (Standard RPG-length. I don’t care about the number of sentences, as long as it’s good. Detailed is great, but try not to bore me with really long descriptions about one simple thing.)
Personality: (Again, standard RPG-length. Just make it good. Personality is the most important part...so let’s have some good personalities, okay? Try to make the character fairly believable, and give him/her/it a decent goal in life.)
History: (I want some meat here. Give me something to chew on, and give the character an interesting background. Again, detail is good, but too much might drive me up the wall.)
Weapons: (Any weapons? Remember, these shouldn’t be modern-day weapons like guns or hand-grenades.)
Magic: (Any magic? Check that list I provided for you earlier and see if any of those are applicable to your character.)
Summons/Yokai: (If your character can use summoning magic, what kinds of yokai can he/she summon? Note: If your character has a yokai that acts as his or her guardian, that yokai must either be a PC or a NPC.)
Other: (Anything else I should know?)

Name: Tamamo-no-Mae (or just "Mae")
Age: Unknown (looks to be in her early twenties)
Gender: Female
Race: Kitsune (Five-tailed)
Class: None

Appearance: In her human-form, Mae has a curvaceous, succulent frame – smooth legs, wide hips, a slim middle, full, rounded breasts, and a drop-dead gorgeous face. Her skin is milky white, and her eyes are a shining amber-color, but flash red whenever she is angered. Her hair is long and silk-white, cascading down her back and around her shoulders. A pair of pointed, furry ears emerge from the top of her head. Her teeth are sharp and sometimes protrude from beneath her rosy lips.

Being a major flirt, Mae garbs herself in skimpier attire than many other kitsune. She wears a light blue (the shade of night), tight-fitting, short kimono cut low so as to expose cleavage from her sizable breasts. Her form-fitting kimono-skirt really only covers as much as it needs to, leaving nearly all of her legs exposed. It has a split down the right side for full mobility. The loose sleeves of her scanty attire are long and cover her arms. Within each of these sleeves she conceals a sharp knife for assassination. Around her waist, Mae wears a white sash with a small loop to attach a lantern to her thigh. Her feet are bare.

Mae's kitsune form is the size of a large fox and bears silk-white fur. She has five tails that wave back and forth slowly and rhythmically, as if they possess minds of their own.

Personality: Mae is a seductive kitsune who lives for two things: one, to serve her Master faithfully (whoever that might be at the time), and two, to become one of the legendary Nine-tails. Her ways are often what one might call “cunning,” and she can be very ambitious at times (sometimes too ambitious for her own good). At one point in time, she had a nasty temper, but has trained herself to keep it in check. Lest she set fire to some unfortunate person's fanny.

Mae doesn't usually come across as proud; instead she's usually viewed as servant-hearted. But sly. Very, very sly. Her first resort is to utilize manipulative behavior to obtain what she desires. She is careful to move only in ways that are advantageous to her, and always manages to, one way or another, get what she wants. Her decisions in and out of battle are carefully and deliberately planned out. Each movement has a purpose. Mae tends to also be extremely flirtatious at times, and she's good at it. She knows it too. Not surprisingly, she possesses a mind for strategy, and utilizes this to her advantage in both day-to-day life and in battle.

Mae is typically very level-headed. But on the rare occasion that she be infuriated, a sadistic side to her will spring forth. Her eyes turn crimson-red and she begins to crave blood. It is during this time that she throws all caution to the wind and will spare no one who stands in her way. Her persona becomes like that of a demon. If this happens, onlookers and adversaries are advised to flee for their lives.

History: Mae's history will be revealed as the plot progresses.

Weapons:
- None.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES

Name: Tsuki
Age: exactly 100 years old as of last month, but she only appears to be 8 years old
Race: Kitsune
Gender: Female
Appearance: The most notable thing about this Fox spirit is her silver-white fur that glistens in the moonlight. Her eyes appear to be closed all the time, although she is perfectly able to see. She is very small for a kitsune, from her paws to the tips of her ears is is only a little over 1'3, but length wise not including her tails she is 2'1 long.

Through training she put herself through, she has achiveved in gaining 4 tails meaning she can transform into weapons as well as people. She's quite the genious at using magic, especially elemental magic. No matter what form she's in, she always has a 4-piped flute around her neck.

She has the ability to transform into a few weapons, but her absolute favourite is turning into a battle scythe. Like her normal form, it is mostly silver and the blade splits into 4 as the number of her tails. She thinks that the number of blades would increase if her tails did, but it is only a theory.

When wanting to play with humans, she transforms into an 8 year old girl in a red long-sleeved kimono. She does this so that the children wouldn't be as afraid of her, but she still wishes them to know what she is. With that in mind, she kep her silver hair, fox ears and all four tails. And her eyes still appear to be closed, many still think it is odd since that is not always the case with other Kistune.

Personality: Tsuki is an odd creature. She's an odd combination of mature and childish at the same time. She's oddly wise beyond her appearance, but keeping in mind she's older than most people can live, it's not out of the question. Se more enjoys flaunting her youthful appearance to lull both her enemies and friends into a false sense of security. She acts innocent, but she knows more than most people think. But she prefers simplier pleasures and hates being treated like she's mature. But she loves being a smart-alec.

She should enjoy her simple life of village guardian-hood, but she is restless. All she wants to do is fight and get stronger. She wants to make good on the promise she made to Gen, and to do that she must fight. She enjoys a good fight, especially if it's challenging. She thinks of it as a game and can become bored with weak opponents. She's fickle and immature in that way.

She's got her own fears to be sure, but not the usual ones. She can't swim so she's afraid of the water... and sushi. Yes. She's afraid of Sushi. One time, she fell into the river, sank, and a giant catfish tried to eat her. She is so afraid of dogs that whenever she sees one, she screams, reverts her transformations and runs. She also has weird weaknesses. Pork and tofu for example. She will do almost anything for barbequed pork and fried tofu, and it can be quite distracting if she's fighting next to a barbeque hut.

History: Tsuki's first memories were in the small village of Suzuka, a small village nestled between mountains famous for its specialty sake and sweet cakes. She was summoned by a monk named Gen in a time of crisis in order to defend the village from monster coming down from the mountains near the village. Onis were pillaging, stealing women and burning down the monestary. A young monk named Gen was desperate to save his home. He found the master's old scroll and tried to summon a creature strong, loyal and-pure hearted... Instead he got a Kitsune Kit. Without thinking, he sent the new born to face off against the leader Oni. And that's when the baby was introduced to violence. Breathing fire on the already alcohol-drenched oni, the fox not only won but killed the onis' leader. It was a fluke win though. Not knowing what to do next with the baby, Gen adopted it on behalf of the village as its protecting guardian. In return, the infant gained a home.

Over the years, not only the oni, but other mountain dwelling monsters began to attack Suzuka. The young fox was always there to fight for them under her friend Gen. She became a true citizen of the village for her service, being given anything she needed or wanted and always having children want to play with her. But as the years went by, and she became stronger, she noticed that not everyone shared her near-eternal youth. Friends she grew up with grew into cheating merchant, drunkards, even theives. Gen was the only friend that she could rely on. Together, the two created a dojo where travelers and home-spun warriors could train under the two of them. Within a few years, the villagers could defend themselves and Tsuki was only really needed in times of great crisis, she became more of a town mascot than anything else. She and Gen decided to live in leisure until they were needed again...

But human lives are so much shorter than a Kitsune's. He did live to be the ripe old age of 108, but Tsuki is still a child at his funeral. Before his death, Gen made Tsuki promise him that one day she would leave to become stronger and to surpass even the Kyuubi. Right on his deathbed, Gen gave Tsuki the flute, saying she would be the only one who could really use it. Before she could ask what that meant, Gen took his last breath.

Magic Style: Her only way to fight is using her magic, as she is so tiny her physical attacks do almost nothing on enemies. She is skilled in the ways of elemental magic and quite talented in healing magic. Typical of Kitsune, she's skilled in transformation magic.

Other: She is skilled in the art of calligraphy and writes and draws with her tails by dipping them in ink. She loves barbequed pork and fried tofu.

Philosopher Knight
Name: Dieigo Nehan
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Class: Yamabushi

Appearance: Dieigo is perhaps different looking than most of the others here. Diego stands at five foot, 9 inches and has light olive skin. He has low cheekbones, a boyish face, no facial hair, and wears a pair of glasses that darken themselves in bright sunlight. His hair is black with subtle patches of very dark brown, mainly in the tips. His hair is kept trimmed and neat, however the ends on the back of his head are messy and spiky. He has slightly bigger than average eyes, which are chocolate brown. His eyes are large enough that they are noticeably larger than average, even by a margin amount.

He wears yamabushi clothing. In his case, he wears a black tunic with black pants. They are tipped with gold color on the sleeves. The tunic provides good protection from the elements and his leg garments are comfortable, strong and allow him to move quickly. On the back of the tunic, there is a gold and black yin-yang symbol. He wears modified kogaki for everyday use. They bear resemblance to modern-day sneakers. They are brown and he wears socks underneath. He also wears kote or armored glove like sleeves over the sleeves of the tunic. The gloves are fingered to allow for Diego to perform his martial arts. On his back, he has the sheath which carries his sword.

Personality: Dieigo has a soul of fire. He is a warm and passionate person with an occasion fiery temper and a burning streak for the pursuit for adventure, ideals, truth and romance. He is very empathetic and has a great desire to help people out. Unfortunately, his bluntness and inability to read subtle body language makes him come off of as insensitive. Beneath this outgoing personality, Diego is a shy and quiet person. He is also a very artistic individual as he will often draw whenever he gets the chance to do so. He is very loyal, but can come on as clingy, especially around girls. He also likes to cook, which helps when he travels around. He can be serious in fighting though he may also verbally assault the target for psychological attacks. He is also extremely deep, being caught in moments of thinking about situations and will often come to a good solution. He has his faults, however. Some of these are being blunt, sarcastic, picking fights, laziness and often day-dreaming during certain moments and saying a weird comment afterward. He may also show some malevolent intent or hold grudges for a while. He may even show cruel moments, characterized by a crazed grins and shadows under his eyes.

Perhaps the single largest defining feature of his personality is his dark side. A collection of his lust, wrath, fear and bitterness, this amount of negative emotions followed by his natural abnormal mental state results in an alter ego, a dark side which he calls Yami Dieigo. He represents all of Dieigo’s negative intent and emotions and so Dieigo has a bit of fear of him, because he represents the monster he would have become were he evil. Ultimately, Dieigo wishes to help people and create his happiness to share with his friends, family and loved ones.

History: Not much of Diego’s history is known. He was found as an infant in a port town. He washed up to the shore during a nasty storm. A sunken ship was viewed in the distance of the night. He was adopted by a nearby kuniochi. Having abandoned her clan to raise her child, she found a partner in a ronin. The family traveled until they settled as civilians in a small town. There Dieigo spent his childhood. While he was intelligently gifted, he lacked social skills and did understand his peers. He was sometimes picked on for his strange appearance and eccentric behavior, even prompting fights. He learned some basic combat from his mom and basic kenjutsu from his father. These happy times did not last though.

The ronin had been hunted down and a traveler identified him. Ninjas, ironically of his mother’s cla were sent after him along with samurai. The mother and father did their best to fend off the invaders, but they were outnumbered. The father had gotten his wife and child out before trapping himself with the invaders. He activated a fail-safe which burned the place down and the ceiling crashed down to them. His final words to his wife and child was that he loved them and thanked them for giving his life purpose again.

Grief-stricken ad wounded, the kuniochi knew she wouldn’t last long. She trekked to her home village, where her father, a Yamabushi had come down, feeling his daughter’s presence. She explained to him what had happened and he gladly took the child. She died hours later. Before going back up to the mountain, he had traveled back and collected the body of the ronin. The parents were buried at the base of the mountain side by side. Diego was 8 years old.

For the next decade, Diego had learned the ways of the yamabushi with his grandfather. At 13, he have been having strange dreams, telling him to go somewhere. His grandfather told him to go there alone. Diego had made his way to a forest, and found himself near the ruins of an ancient shrine. Inside was a katana. It was placed on a stone pedestal. On the wall behind, it said:

神聖な暗闇
(Shinseina Kurayami)

Beneath it:
英雄、良好であることをすべてを保護し、暗闇を引き換える
(Hero, protect all that is good and redeem the darkness)

Dieigo took the sword and felt a greater sense of self and peace. He trekked back to the mountain and explained to his grandfather of his discovery. His grandfather, having been the son of a samurai, proceeded to teach Dieigo swordmanship alongside the way of yamabushi. At age 18, Dieigo left to find his own path of life. He had found himself in the town of Suzuka.

Weapons:
- Shinseina Kurayami (Sacred Darkness)- An ancient and powerful katana Diego found in a ruined shrine. The handle is the color of gold while the sword itself is pitch black. In white, the following message is inscribed:
永遠の闇にすべての悪を封印する
Translated, it states: “seal all evil by eternal darkness”. The sword possesses an extremely powerful ability of sealing. It does so by the blade becoming pure darkness. Diego then inserts the blade into the intended object. The object then becomes a ‘three dimensional silhouette’ and white mantras appear on the object. Black ethereal chains emerge from where the sword is being held at and drag the target inside. They shrink down and melt into the area. Once there are complete engulfed, the white mantras glow once and Diego then removes the sword from the object, leaving the object with the mantras, now black on it and the target sealed.

Magic:
- Healing
- Elemental Magic (Lightning, Darkness)
- Sealing (Shinseina Kurayami)

Other: Dieigo knows how to cook and is pretty good at it. His specialty is desserts though. He also is proficient in Jujutsu though he can also improvise moves.

Name: Momo Mousougata
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Race: Human

Class: Onna-bugeisha (female samurai, more or less)

Appearance: Momo is an attractive woman in the right setting, but far from perfect. Her round face and narrow eyes are framed by short black hair that barely goes past the chin and is usually capped with a wide brimmed straw hat. Her rather plain body features seem to disappear entirely underneath the her dark blue kimono. She has made a habit of keeping the wrappings on her hands fresh to keep the sweat from lessening her grip on her sword, but also to hid the mark of a burn scar from her childhood.

Personality: Momo likes to keep to herself, rarely holding much of a conversation with anyone but her Yokai; Giman Shousho, and even then it comes off as bitter and unwanted. Deep down she cares for those around her and cannot stand the pain of losing anyone, but she would never let it show on the outside.

History: At a young age Momo was abandoned by her real parents, that much she knows. Who they are and what became of them are inconsequential to her. Instead, all she knows is combat through her rigorous training. Her instructor felt she had "a purpose" and made sure she was the best he could make of her. These days Momo wanders in search of that purpose her instructor had seen in her, but it hasn't all been a piece of cake. Often times she has had to lie about being on a mission from the emperor just to find adequate shelter in whatever town she is passing through. Luckily Giman helps her through the hard times. Usually.

Weapons: One sword with the entity of a Yuki-Onna infused in it for empowerment.

Magic: Momo only has a basic understanding of healing magic based on what Giman Shousho, her Yokai, has taught her.

Summons/Yokai: Giman Shousho is a Yuki-Onna bound to Momo's blade as requested by her instructor. Her presence influences the blade in subtle ways; keeping it permanently sharp and embodying it with power. Giman is free to leave the blade, however, and can do so freely so long as she does not stray too far from it. On her own (outside of the sword in a physical form) Shousho makes quite the capable mage, more focused on healing than anything else. Her form often changes but rarely deviates from the attractive, young, icy pale young woman she likes to appear as. If left unchecked she is far more outgoing and flirtatious than her master is.

Other: Momo (and Giman) have a trained eye for finding edible goods in nature (partly from teachings and partly from first hand experience with the need to eat and no food on hand). Giman Shousho prefers to be addressed as Giman but Momo almost always calls her Shousho when speaking to her directly and Giman when speaking about her indirectly.

I hope this works out, this is my first real RP and I'm a little nervous XD. I hope it isn't a problem that her Yokai is sealed in her sword but I figured since demons could be sealed into inanimate objects and the Yuki-Onna are ghosts the same principles could apply but on a looser scale. Let me know if something needs fixing and I'll be happy to change it c:

Monty

The North Wind
Name: Mamoru
Age: Unknown (Appears to be about 20)
Gender: Male
Race: Inugami

Appearance:
As a human, Mamoru has is a fairly handsome young man. He has short dark brown hair that he lets hang freely, because it is too short to tie back or style. Most of the time he will just slick it back or not bother with it. Mamoru eyes are alluring, but they are an unusual rich maroon that people rightfully think is odd. His face and features are rather sharp and well defined due to his bone structure. His canine teeth are quite sharp while in human form, but they are not as deadly as they normally are. In settings where humans are more accepting of yokai he retains his pointed dog ears atop his head.
Mamoru has broad shoulders, but his isn’t particularly muscular or bulky. However, he is not scrawny. The best way to describe him would be lean or slim. He is slightly taller than most humans, and his golden-brown skin glows with a soft radiance. Mamoru usually wears a dark orange cotton samue that has dark purple band along the hem of the sleeves and the bottom of the top. He wears this with a pair geta.

In his actual Inugami form, he resembles a spectral wolf with white fur and he is twice the size of a normal wolf and has long tail that he whips around. Like his human form, he is leaner than he is bulky. This allows him to be more agile and quick.

Personality:
Mamoru is an Inugami through and through. He is naturally undyingly loyal of those he grows close to. He becomes very protective of them and will do anything to make sure that they are safe. He also will become very protective of those who are younger than him or defenseless. If someone were to harm anyone that Mamoru cared for he would become very upset and vicious. People are normally surprised by this, because he is normally friendly and soft-spoken.

Mamoru is down-to-earth, trustworthy, and polite. He is usually is reflective and provides advice or help when people ask for it. He has a hard time saying no to people who ask him for help, but he typically doesn’t mind helping them. Mamoru prefers to follow his instincts and principles as opposed to logic, and he is very stubborn when he doesn’t like an idea or a person. He is one to hold a grudge if he feels that he has been wronged, and it will take a lot to earn back his trust.

History:
Mamoru came to be once his physical body died. He was a dog that belonged to a family that lived in town near the mountains. The family was attack and killed by a group of Tengu, and Mamoru was slain as well. His spirit lived on and became an Inugami. He grieved for his lost family and became very angry. He searched for the group of Tengu and slaughtered them. He did not feel any better, because his family was still gone. He decided to search for a new master.

Mamoru made found a young yamabushi who was in trouble while fighting a very powerful yokai. Mamoru felt compelled to help him. He helped the yamabushi defeat the yokai. The yamabushi appreciated the help and realized that Mamoru was friendly, so he asked Mamoru to be his familiar. Mamoru agreed as he had no one to protect anymore.

Mamoru and the yamabushi were great companions, and they both grew stronger with each battle. Eventually, the yamabushi passed away due to old age, but before he died he taught Mamoru that he didn’t need a master to exist. Mamoru believed his master’s words and decided to travel on his own.

Magic:
Transformation
Summoning (Lesser Inugami Spirits)
Elemental (Wind, Lightning, Darkness, Water)
Healing
Dispelling
Sealing

Summons/Yokai: Mamoru is able to summon Inugami to help him.

Other: Mamoru doesn’t like Tengu very much.

Zekshirom

Herp a derpy gurl
Name: Munsuta Yoru

Age: Unknown, though looking to be about 25

Gender: Female

Race: Kitsune (Seven-tailed)

Appearance: As a normal Kitsune, Munsuta has dark blue fur that seems to glow in the dark. Her eyes are a dark yellow color, and she has black tips on her tails. Another thing to note is that she has glowing silver markings all over her body in a mystic pattern. This leads some people to think about her past.

As a human, Munsuta has the same eyes as she does as a Kitsune, and her fur becomes her hair, keeping the silver markings. She wears a black kimono with a golden star pattern. And, in both forms, Munsuta wears a golden star pendent that allows her to change forms at will, when without it, she always is a human by dawn and a Kitsune by dusk.

Personality: Munsuta is a personality switcher, basically. As a human, she is very kind and loving to others. She will do anything to help those in danger, and does not like to get rewarded for her work. Munsuta also is very elegant, but gets VERY mad when men see her bathing (hint hint).

However, when she becomes a Kitsune, her personality spins around like a top! She becomes fun loving and adventerous, and always loves to do fun things. She keeps her kindness to others, but loses her elegant part. Wherever Munsuta goes as a Kitsune, fun and adventure follows!

History: A normal night was passing, when a large comet scrapped the skys. It landed in a valley, and when people went to look, stars flew down and created a land constillation of a small, seven tailed fox. The picture then filled in, and Munsuta was born. The village elder took the young Kitsune into his care, and was always there for her. In return, she helped him by running errands and keeping him company.

Sadly, the elder died at age 100, so Munsuta was lonely until a young woman adopted her. Now that Munsuta could become human, she did the same things for the woman as she has done for the elder, and even a bit more. The young Kitsune would love her new owner as she did the elder. When Munsuta became 20, she was allowed to travel. But due to her transforming at night, a preist gave her a necklace so she could become human or Kitsune at will, and it will prevent her from unwillingly transforming at night. Now she travels around Japan, sometimes as a human, sometimes Kitsune.

Weapons: Munsuta has both a bow and arrow and a sword. The bow is used for long distance battles, but her sword-named Kurai- is for head-to-head battles.

Magic:
Transforming magic (human to Kitsune)
Elemental Magic (Darkness,wind)
Healing Magic

Other: Munsuta is said to be of a legendary star Kitsune race, since she was created by stars falling towards a comet that had landed.

Killer_Squirtle: Good to have you back on board. The kami have deemed Tsuki a worthy sacrifice. They have accepted her.

DVB: The kami have done a background check on your character...and have discovered, much to their dismay and disapproval, that you use him for nearly every single RPG. They demand a new character be created, because it isn't fair to them, to me, or to others who work hard on their sign ups that you use a character not created for this specific RPG. Diego has been denied and flung into the fiery underworld.

I would encourage you to try again with a new character.

Chibi Shibi: The kami have deemed Momo's personality and history fields to be far too short. They aren't descriptive enough for the kami's liking. Also, they are going to need at least a short description of Giman's personality and history (how did she end up in a sword?). Basically, just expound upon her history and personality fields...dig deeper. And then, in a separate (short) sign up, give me some (short) personality and history information regarding Giman. For now, Momo is pending.

Monty: The kami have deemed Mamoru acceptable. They are intrigued by the possibilities of having an inugami on their "dream-team." (Also, I love that you've carried over dog-traits into a human-like character's personality. Well done.)

Zekshirom: First off, we have two kitsune already...so the kami would rather you use a different yokai. I realize that it is my fault for not stating that in the sign ups. But the nice thing is that you wouldn't have to change much regarding appearance if you were to switch to a bakeneko/nekomata, harionago, yuki-onna, or even a human.

Next, the kami have informed me that it is not possible for a kitsune (or any yokai, for that matter) to be created from falling stars. Though the notion is intriguing, they would rather it be symbolic, and not literal.

Also, any yokai with transformational abilities is capable of transforming whenever they like. So a pendant is not necessary.

And lastly, the kami would like for you to expound upon her personality and appearance more. Give them some more meat to chew on there... Perhaps be a little more descriptive. Therefore, the kami have deemed Munsuta to be pending.

Edit: I assure you, I will have my second character, Ninigi Mikoto, up as soon as possible. Also, for those of you who have yet to sign up, please try to use any of the unused races that interest you... So that we don't have a ridiculous amount of the same creature. Thanks!

Wandering Caretaker
Name: Āron Fokkusu
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Class: Sohei
Appearance: Āron is a relatively tall boy, roughly 5'10", with blue eyes and dark blond hair which is somewhat long. He isn't very tan or pale, and isn't really chubby or thin. All around, he looks somewhat average. His clothing, however, is strange for his class. Instead of the average tunic or robe, he wears something similar to a gi shirt, but made from a thinner cloth and black hemming, with gray Japanese inscription running around it saying "人々に光", meaning "Light to the People", and similar white pants. He wears these because he finds the regular clothing too dress like. Also, he has a strange scar wrapped around his wrist, made when he got a little too close to a fox and it slashed, Āron rotating his wrist in pain.

Personality: A somewhat shy person, Āron is. He is quiet as possible, and is scared of large crowds. He prefers to be alone, either training in magic or reading a book. He finds his small magically capabilities to be somewhat lackluster, and he thrives to become better at using his knack for it. He is secretive, making sure people know as little about him as possible.
However, there is a second side to him. He has a ghost like being in him, which his father unknowingly cast upon him has a child. Nicknamed Nora, she is a kind person who acts as a conscious to him, telling him to do things, swaying him away from the evil side of life. She has her own memory, and picks up most of the smaller details in life, while Āron looks at the larger picture.

History: Āron grew up in a small town near Kyoto, growing rice with his mom, with the help of his dad, a skilled Sohei. After seeing his father doing magic to speed up the growth of the rice plants, he wished to learn about this way. He asked his father, and he became training in magic. He had a strange knack for it, learning spells in an hour when it took his father a day. This was, however, due to Nora’s guidance. She remembered things about the magic that he had forgotten, reminding him of these things, allowing him to learn faster. His father noticed this, and found what he had done to his son at birth. He had released a soul from a graveyard, defending it from the pits of Yomi, as it was tricked by a cruel Yamabushi. She was in his debt, and she flew off to his pregnant wife, waiting for the child to be born to assist him. She was noticed at Āron’s birth, and his father attempted to seal her away into a tea pot, unaware of who she was. Instead of the pot, she was sealed into Āron by mistake, and vowed to protect him. His father, realizing his mistake, told Nora and his son of what had happened, and tod them that they would need to train, as he could not retrieve the soul from him. Āron trained, and his family is on a vacation at Suzuka at the moment.

Weapons: See below.
Magic: Elemental Magic is one of his strong suits, mainly the element of Earth, but he is capable of using Wind, Water, and Darkness as well. He can use a small amount of summon as well.
Summons/Yokai: The one and only summon is a large acorn with hands and legs, wielding a sword and capable of spitting sharp acorns at people. He’s actually somewhat cute.
Other: Nope.

Tyoyo3131: An interesting sign up, so speak the kami. There is, however, something of concern to them. They notice that Aron and his father are both yamabushi... A yamabushi is defined as a hermit warrior who--as is typical of hermits--lives alone. That should probably be changed for both Aron and his father. Might I suggest the sohei class (which is a much more sociable class...with the same magical perks of a yamabushi).

Fix that little problem, and the kami will accept you.

Tyoyo3131: The kami have accepted your sacrifice. Welcome to Ashihara!

Also, I'm waiting on a couple more people before we get this thing going. Oh, and I'll try to get my other sign up on here soon. Been putting that off. Oops.
