Tales of Legendia

The latest Tales game to hit US shelves since Tales of Symphonia, TOL is shaping up to be another great RPG.

I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical when I heard that the music and artwork were being done by different people this time around, but after seeing the videos and hearing some of the clips I can safely say this is the best looking and sounding game in the series.

Kazuto Nakazawa designed the characters this time around. He designed the animation sequences for Kill Bill, and I can easily say he did an incredible job with the characters for TOL.

Go Shiina composed the music, and it doesn't sound at all like previous games in the Tales series. I daresay if you were to just listen to the music without knowing where it was from, you wouldn't even know you were listening to music from a Tales game. But don't take that the wrong way. I can safely say that this is the best soundtrack to ever come out of a Tales game. Almost everything is orchestrated and the whole game has a much more epic feel due to the music.

Well, I just found out that this game comes out tomorrow (Feb 7). And I don't see a thread for it yet. So, I'll leave this thread open to discussion regarding the new Tales game.

I'll say a few things before I pick up the game on Wednesday (since the game only ships tomorrow and should be in stores on Wednesday).

I'm having high hopes for the music, especially since someone else did the music. Quite frankly, I thought the music of Tales of Symphonia was poor and Tales of Rebirth, while better than what Tales of Symphonia did, still wasn't up to what I've come to expect.

I can also say, I'm not looking forward to what music they place in the intro movie. It's not because of the fact they removed the Japanese theme song, it's because it just plain out stinks.

I'm at least expecting some good things about the game. I've also heard the story is great. Though I've heard the battle system isn't much of an evolution in the Linear Motion Battle, I still expect to have some fun with battles. So, I'm hoping for it to be good.

Well, that is true, the battle system in ToL isn't much of a step up from the linear battle motion system, it IS however quite similar to the pseudo-3D system of ToS, from some screenies that I have seen. But I prefer TotA over ToL.

One thing that was apparent from the videos is that the battles seem to be button and combo-based. I guess they're trying to make the battles feel more like a fighting game than the previous installments.

It really showed in the fight against the bear thing. The guy did three slashes and a high slash and went into that multi-thrust attack, all without having to stop.
