Tales of Phantasia

Well, I did a search for this, and the only thread on it is from December, so, I ask: is anyone here exited for Tales of Phantasia? Symphonia really got me into the series, and from what I've heard from IGN and Nintendo Power, it's going to be great! I am curious as to how the battle system will translate, though; on that small screen, it's probably going to be pretty hard to dodge. What do you guys think?

Phantasia was the original so of course the fights aren't going to run as smoothly.

Still, I can't wait for this. Hopefully they've put some of the ps1 changes in there though.

In the new issue of Nintendo Power, they said that it is more than just a port, and that it has loads of new features exclusive to this version. I just got a $30 gift card to the mall, so I might just spend it on this game. And as far as battles go, I'll survive. I like a good challenge.

Well, I cannot deny I am looking forward for this; afterall, it's the first time this game is officially brought out there.

And I actually like the fighthing system, even if running away turns out to be odd on it; it was different from all the systems seen up to the first release. Now with more Tales around it can turn to be not so fresh anymore, but still works.

As for the storyline, it is great. I never went [spoil]up to Maxwell[/spoil], but until then, the game was pretty much great. Hope I can pass of this part on the remake.

Being that this is my favorite Tales, I suppose I should be excited that it's getting an English release. Well, I'm really not that excited because of this version and how half-arse this version is. Examples being lags in battle, thus making the battle feel more sluggish. At least the SNES version and the PS1 version runs well, even if the system has been aging. Not to mention, the voice acting for the English version is awful. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if someone gave it a bad review because of this version's flaws. I really have no idea how well the story will hold up in the translation overall but I really don't have much faith in the translation, which really doesn't help that I also never really had much faith in the GBA version in the first place.

Pretty much, I know I'll end up buying it but I also know I'm going to just go back to playing the PS1 version.

I was going to get it, but I want to know if it's a good port. Is it every bit as good as the SNES version?

I saw it in the store. What AWFUL boxart. Holy crap that is bad.

Huh? I think that box art is cool.

This comes out at the end of the month here. Anyone played it? Should I get it instead of Pokemon Emerald? (and get Emerald for my birthday)

Whether you like Tales of Phantasia or not depends heavily on your RPG likes; ToP is an old-style RPG, with random battles and lots of toughness and the like. It´s basically a difficult RPG. The game is definitely worth it though. Lots of things have been added to it to make it mainstream, though; individual weapon portraits, titles, cooking...

I´m personally getting it. The Almighty Archie Klaine and the Sexy Klarth F. Lester are more than enough to buy it. >>

THERE'S NO $50 HERE!
Played it already. 3 years ago on Super Famicom. Good game.

Although I haven't played the PSX version, which gives good reason to pick this up. See how Suzu handles.

I'm kinda sad they did an English voice over to the game, but I guess with Symphonia it was kind of expected...? However, Tales of Destiny, for an example, was released here and they didn't dub over it. T_T;

I guess I still have my SNES rom somewhere, but I think when I buy it for GBA I'm gonna cringe when the sound is on. >_> Not that dubs are bad, but the clip I heard of this one sure was.

In terms of Tales dubs, Legendia wasn't too bad itself. Maybe Phantasia will have a similar studio.

Deoxys Prime

Time will tell.
I got it, its pretty good, no match for ToS to me though. I give it 8/10. Its fun, but a lot more confusing.

Why did they do an English voiceover? Didn't they speak English anyways?

As a Tales of Symphonia fanatic... I had to buy Phantasia. At first I wasnt too pleased with it as the battle controls annoyed me but I got used to it quickly and now I <3333 this game 8D

Im in Heimdall Forest... which is annoying

I'm really liking the game. Since I was already used with the weird battle system, I have nothing to complain about that :). And yes, I'm actually playing because of Suzu too, because of the ninja thing.

The voices, on the other hand... Arche is okay, Cless is not so good but I can get used to that. Mint, on the other side, just has one of the worst voices I ever heard, really. Feels almost like she's dieing. And they could have done a better work with Klarth/Claus, because his voice is just plain weird. You can always mute the voices if you must, BTW.

Overall, even with the odd voices and some drug-induced name changes, I cannot complain on not having fun with it. And I'm heading to Morlia right now (1st time).

The GBA port must be pretty bad if people aren't liking it that much. I played the SNES version and it's among the top 3 RPG's for that system, in the midst of all of those old school RPG's. Chrono Cross, one of the Final Fantasies, and Tales of Phantasia. Tales of Phantasia was my favorite, of course.

It's either that, or that you guys have gotten too used to a more technologically advanced game (Tales of Symphonia) that uses the same battle system.

^ Nah, this game has just aged ALOT over the past ten years. Plus, they put PSX graphics in there, so that slowed down battles.

Well, ToP is one of my favorite RPGS of all time. (Don't have to say it's my favorite Tales game thus far, right?)

But the main problem with the GBA version is that they slowed the battles down to a near turn-based speed.

Don't get me wrong, it's still fun, it's just a lot slower compared to the SNES and PSX versions.

Though I've heard they actually sped up the battles for the english version..
