Is this really something we should be looking forward too. Have to mention that I hardly know something about the series.

I'm shedding tears of joy. Well not really, but I'm just glad that we're actually still getting Tales games.

Amazon slipped up a few days back in an item description for the *****, stating that it was to tie in with the upcoming anime and 3DS releases. Sure enough, this now confirms Namco-Bandai isn't holding back on delivering the franchise to the US.

No official word from NB yet, nor any word on a European release.
WOOHOO!!!

When I saw that one list that showed some of the upcoming 3DS titles and noticed BB:CS2 and Tales of the Abyss were on it, I was quite ecstatic! A tad worried though, as there have been some issues in the past with getting the Tales of games ported to NA, but now...

Now, I just need to buy a 3DS. This is very exciting news :D.

This might also mean we'll finally get fully-voiced skits in a US release of TotA, as Namco did not dub or include voices for the skits in the PS2 release. Here's to also hoping the 3DS version includes the extras the US PS2 release got.

I feel like your sentences supplement each other pretty well.

Is that or yes or no. If he starts a thread about this then I want to know what's this all about.

It also seems we *might* be getting one of the DS Tales games as well, though nothing really concrete has surfaced yet. If it's true, I wouldn't be surprised if we got a PS3 port of Tales of Vesperia alongside Xillia later on.

Considering Abyss is already a solid title, I don't think we have to worry about that.

It seems that nothing is going to be changed (at least for the US version, the JP version will get what the US version added), so no voiced skits or anything. According to the official Tales of forum is that there's only performance upgrades and pretty much nothing else.

I can't wait to see how well this game will do.

From the way I'm thinking, it'll be the Japanese PS2 version, mixed with the North American extras that'll make up the Japanese 3DS version. Since the Japanese version had voiced skits, this may mean we'll have the skits dubbed this time when it comes to the 3DS release. If it's true that 3DS carts can reach a max size of 8GB, then that's easily more than enough room to fit the voices compared to the 4.7GB DVD limitation the PS2 version has. The primary reason the US release of TotA didn't have voiced skits was because the added extras killed off the needed room for them on the disc.

The 3DS is deprived of games (and especially JRPGs), so I have a feeling that this will do exceptionally well.

Ahh. I had thought the games that were said to be coming out for the 3DS were going to be launch titles. I just saw the games (or the lack therefore) and I have to agree, Abyss should do well, especially for those that are new or that didn't finish/get the PS2 version. And it's cheap, so there should be no limited availability that plagued the PS2 version... hopefully.

Yeah, your reasoning makes sense. But, sadly, according to a Yoshizumi interview in Nintendo Power that was posted on the Tales forum there won't be for the US version for one simple reason (one the last post on the page, but the image quality isn't good enough for me to read to see what the scan page says). Namco doesn't want to reassemble the cast to voice the the skits. Go figure.

Someone also posted some other points in the interview. One which the interview said that they struggled with the data, particularly the voice data. So, I have no idea if they're using 8GB and all 3D takes up over 3GB or a smaller cart.

Tales Forum Poster, BY2K:

From the interview (or the NP article, I'm not sure...) Sorry if old:

- 3DS cart size proved to be a challenge for fitting everything on there, particularly voice data was an obstacle but he says he feels like they solved this while keeping the quality high.
- "Every part of the game, with the exception of the animated cut-scenes, has been redone in 3D." Yoshizumi thinks this makes the game seem more real than before. More immersive
- They had to rebuild the character models to improve performance, but the rest of the game has been ported over seamlessly.
- They made a few changes to "in-game parameters" to compensate for control differences, but other than that there aren't any new additions. No new weapons or artes.
- No communication (StreetPass, etc.) features.
- They've talked about a sequel to Abyss, but haven't yet come up with something that would be good enough for a full game.
- Yoshizumi promises that the load times have been reduced significantly, and also says that they should be able to deliver a steadier framerate (I think he's talking about the world map in specific here)
- Confirms that skits will remain unvoiced in this version.

So, performance upgrades, but nothing else.

It seems this is a port in every sense of the word only with 3D... At least, no awful loading times! But, this isn't exactly confirmed (with it being Nintendo Power and all).

Too bad they didn't wanna do it without the 3D, I know it's the selling point of the system, but i'd rather have fully voices skits, insted of fully '3D'.

If they thought from the buyers view, It's a know fact the 3DS's 3D cause eye irratation for quite some people, adding this to a JRPG which can take 40+hours plus grinding and side quests to beat, and you're looking at a 70hr+ play time for the first playthrough.

I don't think anybody on this earth can take 70+ hours of 3DS 3D.

Or maybe im just picky?
