Yup. I finally worked up enough courage to show a fic I’ve been writing. This is technically my first, so I expect some helpful crits. I’ve had this idea in my mind for a long time, it just took me a while to write it. This is an ORIGINAL idea, so it’s not really a fan fic.
PG-13 for some blood, violence, and some scary stuff.
And all characters and places belong to ME. In fact, the only thing I don’t own is the place two of the characters live in, which is Tokyo.
It was a cold, winter night. The moon and stars were hidden behind a cloak of clouds. As small snow flakes fell to the earth, a shaft of moonlight broke through it’s cover and shone on a large house. It looked inviting, with a warm light glowing from inside. But, something hung in the air…something odd.
From the inside of the house, a young girl was staring outside through a window, curled up on a couch. She was brushing her long, brown hair, but seemed to be interested in the snow than her appearance. The white nightgown she was wearing made her look like a ghost, since she was slightly pale, and her chocolate eyes had a lost look in them. She sighed and closed the blinds.
“Hot chocolate, Sakiko?” The girl, Sakiko, turned to look at the speaker. It was another girl, about two years older than her. She had long, black hair tied in a braid, and her midnight blue pajamas seemed to go along with her deep, sapphire eyes. She held a warm mug filled with hot chocolate. “I even put marshmallows in it.”
Sakiko smiled weakly. “Thank you, Sayuri. You know exactly what I like.”
“Well, of course. I am your older sister.” Sayuri handed her sister the mug and sat down next to her. “But I can’t give you everything…” She added, glancing at a picture on the wall. It was a picture of three people. Two were adults, one being a kind-looking woman, the other a stern but loving man. And the third was a young red head girl, with a look of confidence in her eyes.
“Yeah…” Sakiko stared at the marshmallows floating in her mug. “It’s been five years, hasn’t it? I was only eight when…it happened.” She sniffed and wiped a tear from her eye. “I still remember what happened, and it still hurts.”
Sayuri hugged her younger sister. “But our aunt was happy to take us in, and you have that special place, right?” The ‘special place’ she was referring to was a small library behind a bookcase in Sakiko’s bedroom. Only she and Sakiko could go in there. “You always go in there when you have a bad day and you want to burst into tears.”
Sakiko nodded and stood up. “I think I’ll go in there now. Thanks for the hot chocolate.” She handed Sayuri the mug and walked to her room. There wasn’t much to see, but she had a king sized bed, a desk, a TV, several video gaming stations, and the bookcase. She pushed the bookcase to the side, revealing a hidden door. “It’s a good thing that only my sis and I know about this.” She muttered, taking out a key and unlocking the door.
The door creaked eerily, sending shivers up Sakiko’s spine. But she stepped inside the library and turned on a lamp. It was a cozy room, with the walls filled with old and new books. There was a small, circular couch in the middle of the room that she fell on. She breathed in the musty, peppermint smell and turned onto her back.
“I wonder what will happen in Tariza tonight…” She mused. Tariza was a special world she had created with her sisters. It was two planets considered as one: One was filled with life and hope, the other was dark and infested with demons. But the beings of the light side learned to co-exist with the demons. And it is protected by several goddesses, one being the ‘true’ creator of Tariza: Sari. But, although the world was created by her, Sakiko knows little about the history of it. But she does know of one special person living in Tariza: A cat girl who goes by the name of Sarisa. Sarisa was her guardian angel.
Suddenly, the silence was broken when an object fell to the floor. Sakiko, being a believer of ghosts, quickly got up to investigate. She picked up an old sketchbook, its pages yellowed with age.
“What’s this? I didn’t see this on the shelves before…” She said, sitting down and carefully opening the relic. “It’s so old….I’m surprised it didn’t crumble under my touch! Hey, what’s this?” She was flipping through the book when she stopped on a strange picture. It looked like a shrine, but it was made of crystal. It even had a strange pool of liquid inside.
Near the picture was a small paragraph of strange words. To the normal human eye, it would appear as strange lettering, and no one would understand it. But, somehow, Sakiko could read every word of it. It didn’t make any sense to her, though.
“From the portal of imagination, the demon of nightmares shall awaken, when the creator’s dream comes true.” She read. Her eyelids drooped as she read it again. “From the portal of imagination, the demon of nightmares shall awaken, when the creator’s dream comes true.” The sketchbook fell from her hands as she drifted off into slumber land.
When Sakiko opened her eyes, she gasped in surprise. She was floating above a small village that was near a large body of water, probably an ocean. She couldn’t see much, but the roofs of the houses were giant, colorful seashells. Some were pointed with swirls, some had seaweed clinging onto the roofs. Sakiko could see people fishing, doing work in their yards, or playing.
She stared at the town. “Can it be? Am I?…” She glanced up at the sky. But instead of the sapphire skies back home, she saw another land. It looked cold and grim, with several dead trees scattered here and there on its surface. She even thought she saw a werewolf wandering around.
Sakiko stared at the sky, then pinched herself. “…It’s true.” She muttered, then she grinned form ear to ear. “It’s really true! I’m in Tariza! My dream has come true!”
