Team Building Guide

This guide will give you a baseline on making winning Pokemon Teams.Note there are three sections, a single, double, and free battle section. Since ubers are illegal, I will only include them in the free battle section.

Now lets review the basics. First you decide what pokemon you want in your team. Is it a sweeper? a wall? After you decide, think about what pokemon to support it with. An example is probably BlissSkar. This combo has Synergy since they have the stats to balance eachother out. Skar has defence while Bliss has HP and special defense. Skars only weaknesses are elec and fire, so Bliss can back it up with a light screen. Just watch out for brick breakers. They can break your wall and make Skar a big targets to a boltbeam pokemon.

So now you have the idea of supporting. The next thing you do is raise EV's. I will not explain them. If you want to know what they are, read the EV training guide. Now, getting back to my example, Blissey has weak defense, meaning you should train 252 Ev's for it. This shoud also be use with an impish or bold nature since they raise defense and lower atk/special atk. Now, you probably are thinking '' Why lower attack trait?'' The answer to that is: they won't be attacking. Bliss attack is seismic toss so it wont be weakened. Now enough of the review, lets make a team!

Pokémon Professor?
There's a lot of things you need to consider in a team than that; you need to cover weaknesses, counter Pokemon such as Snorlax and Salamence, among other things. I can tell there's a lot that's gonna be missing from this guide - you haven't even started to say anything about the other metagames.

Also about that team in the second post, you'd never use Psychic on Gengar in a Competitive Battle, Choice Band is just restricting Charizard's move choice as the Band only powers up Physical moves, and wtf is Marowak doing with an item that only works on Farfetch'd? ._.

Thick Club please.

Reversal Team

A reversal Team. You'll probably will understand it later on if you ever get to know the move reversal. This is obviously be A double battle team.

Blaziken@Salac Berry
Endure
Reversal
Overheat
Rock Slide

Zangoose@Liechi Berry
Shadow Ball
Endure
Flail
Brick Break

Hitmonlee@Quick Claw
Endure
Reversal
Earthquake
Mach Punch

Typhlosion@White Herb
Overheat
Earthquake
Endure
Reversal

Gyarados@Focus Band
Earthquake
Dragon Dance
Endure
Flail

Salamence@Choice Band
Earthquake
Rock Slide
Aerial Ace
Steel Wing

Rundown: Use Earthquake on the Reversal/Flail Pokemon while they are using Endure. This should get that Pokemon's HP down to 1, while the Earthquake can also take a big chunk out of your opponent's HP as well.

I'd like to know myself.

We have multiple threads along thse lines:

Standard Battling Rules and A Guide to the Basics of the Metagame
So I guess this is a guide about how to EV your pokemon
Newbs Guide
Pokemon Movesets Guide (For Competitive Battling)

There's also tonnes of external links on this subject, such as the one Pax linked, Smogon's guide to Team Building.

So yeah: Closed

Edit: And even if we didn't have these guides, I would NEVER let newbies be mislead by someone who thinks Light Screen should be anywhere on the Skarm-Bliss combo.
