It may seem like a trivial detail, but I am glad that Team Skull are not just using the bog standard Pokeballs in trailer and hopefully this is something carried on into the games. It just gives them a little more of an individual personality I think.

If you watched the Japanese trailer, the Grunts also used Haunter and Drowzee. Guzma uses an Ariados.
They probably specialize in Poison, Ghost, Psychic, and Dark.

For reference, Flare used these Pokemon:

Grunts - Zubat/Golbat, Houndour/Houndoom, Gulpin/Swalot, Electrike/Manectric, Scraggy/Scrafty, Croagunk/Toxicroak, Mightyena, Liepard
Aliana - Druddigon
Bryony - Bisharp
Celosia - Drapion
Mable - Weavile
Xerosic - Crobat, Malamar
Lysandre - Minefoo/Mienshao, Murkrow/Honchkrow, Pyroar, Gyarados

Sadly, the only Gen 6 Pokemon used was Malamar and Pyroar. :p

The blame goes to Generation VI for only introducing 1 Dark and Poison lines; Inkay-Malamar and Skrelp-Dragalge respectively. Pangoro is an evolved form of a pure Fighting-type, so it is not counted.

Maybe some of the grunts would have Sunabaas/Shirodesunas? It would work because they both come about from grudges.

Man, an evil team that used primarily Ghost-types would be kinda lit. But, then again, I also wouldn't mind a villainous team that used Pokemon with just as much variety as your own. The typing theme causes them to be somewhat easy usually.

There have been street gangs and criminals who are known to be invested in the occult before. Santa Muerte is often associated with and worshiped by drug dealers from Mexico. Seeing that these people could be ghost specialists, I think it's fine to have Team Skull have some kind of supernatural theme in addition to vengeance.

We know what's most important: They are still using zubats!
I want them to be different and not just go the same old cliche route where "the evil team mostly uses poison and dark type pokemon". Like literally why do that -again- ? Sure I know these types are portrayed as more sinister than the rest but still, they could mix it up...

Ikr. There are hundreds of new pokemon, idk why they gave the evil team a old pokemon that everyone is tired of seeing, specially in the grunt's team. Heck, it didn't even have to be a new pokemon, they could have given them Alolan Marowak for example, that would be a breath of fresh air and it would fit Team Skull's theme better than any other pokemon.

I like the designs for the Team Skull characters. Very well done especially the boss. I could definitely see this as a revenge plot for Team Skull.

It did for me too until team flare. Flare just had so many problems and kind of was the jumping the shark point for the crazy evil teams. So that's why I think they needed to ground the villains this time again way more.

I think that Team Flare's problems were separate from the idea of an over-the-top plan. I think the mass genocide story actually could have worked much better, if only Team Flare was developed and handled better. Just the fact that they were over-the-top was not the problem.

Plumeria reminds me of Angel from Ninja Turtles (Casey's cousin). She was also in a sort of gang (the Purple Dragons). Also this gang made some dirty services for the main villain (Shredder), so it would be funny if actually SM's true villain is a rich guy who hired Team Skull to cause havoc.

so is team skull the only villains or do you think there is someone else pulling the strings? like could that leak that said that the villain was Lillie's father who wanted to have full control of Aloha still be legit?

It is possibly that Team Skull could be causing trouble under command of Lillies father who controls most/all of the region, whether it be president or just a large company owner, to make money off the programs he offers. (I.E: If he is a Police Captain, he benefits from team skull being around)

I can definitely see someone else controlling Skull for their own wants. However, that leak was proven fake already.

That leak was already proven false if I remember correctly, so that specific version is unlikely.

There are many ways they might have gone with team skull... they are being manipulated, they are directly evil, they are fighting to restore the kingdom, they are simply foolish show offs and then end up causing a real problem by mistake, they are fighting against what they perceive as elitism or prejudice but don't know a healthy way to do so, they have entitlement issues, etc etc. I for one would like those details to remain unrevealed until I play the game.

I think we haven't seen all of team skull (like maybe another admin they tend to pile them up recently) but the boss is guzma and plumeria is one of the admin.

Exactly. Team Flare's issues were that their overall personality didn't match their ideals, their exposition wasn't that great and Lysandre's twofold reasoning either went over most people's heads or was seen as tacky. Seriously, I've seen people think Lysandre just wanted to 'make the world pretty'. But, to be honest, it wouldn't hurt Lysandre to have been more concise with what he was trying to say. It didn't really get across until the end.

I'm curious with Team Skull interest on using colorful vivid paints to vandalized the walls and paintings showed in the trailer. Their hair too are also colorful: Neon blue and pink for the grunts, and neon pink and yellow for the admin. Do you think that there is a connection between their choices of colors and their goals as a team?

I just think they're vandals.

They're the typical "rebellious" hair colours everyone goes for, saw it all the time in college. Enough blue and pink dye to fill a swimming pool. As for the paint, just common vandalism I feel.
