Zekshirom your character is perfectly fine. A little underpowered in such a hostile environment, but I have no problems with the signup. You should think about more superpowers granted by the Dragon Blade and either add them now or learn them fairly quickly when the RP starts. The resistance is facing insurmountable odds against them and the city is in chaos, so if you get into conflicts you could be at a disadvantage solo or just getting around to finding allies.

Grassmaster411

Dont, move, a muscle
Yup I remember you Grass. I've been great. Sorry I took so long to get back to you and your RP finished. I hope you're not mad at me for that, cause I'm kinda sad. I JUST got a new computer on November 2nd. I was hoping to see you here, actually. There is a small discrepancy with your story. You mention Connor, but don't you mean Evan? Will Whiplash be joining later?

.

Sorry for taking a while to respond. Of course I'm not mad at you, I knew about your computer issues.

Oh, sorry about that. I had changed the Fossil's name a few times over the years, and I must have missed that. Yes, his name is Evan, not Connor. I don't have any plans to bring in Whiplash, but if I think of something good I'll let you know. They were living in Montanna when Evan decieded to come here and try and liberate the city, so thats where she will stay. If you have an idea on how to incorporate her, please let me know.

bronislav84

I <3 Catgirls
Yea turns out it took a bit longer than I'd hoped. Sad about missing the entire thing.

As for how to incorporate her, she could have just come with your character before the city got cordoned off. The way we are doing sign ups so people can continue to join is they'd been there before and just not done anything. So you can bring in NPCs the same way, just by assuming she was there before.

Fossil is a fun character. I very much like the concept. He's like Reptil from Super Hero Squad, but he seems stronger.

~*~

NEWS! We will have a discussion thread soon! I've gotten permission from Psychic to start a discussion thread. Everybody, please just wait a bit while I compile the information that needs to be put into it.

Name and Last Name: Aaron Slate

Hero or Villain: works with the hero's, but not exactly what you would call; 'A chip off the old block'...

Super Hero/Villain Alias: Renegade

Age: 20

Gender: Male

Description: He has short, black hair, almost a buzz cut but not quite. He is white-skinned, and approximately 6"2ft tall. he usually wears a black leather jacket, dark jeans, and gloves without fingers (black) he wears black converse trainers, and his eyes are dark blue. He is pretty muscular, and has a six pack (not sounding too childish I hope) and can lift very heavy weights, despite his powers. He usually wears a dark grey mask, that looks like a Wolf's face, and He has a wristband that is a scanner, like the one of Black ops 2, or to a lesser extent, if you haven't seen black ops 2, then like Leela's one off of Futurama. But out of the 2, it looks more like the Black ops 2 one. I'm just trying to put a picture into your head. He also has a symbolic scar over his right eye, similar to the one Anakin Skywalker has.

Personality: He is very secluded. Only socialises with hero's of a similar nature, such as batman. He does soften up over time, but he is very angry inside, due to the loss of his family. When irritated, he usually shouts, and stalks out of rooms. When annoyed, he usually breaks something. And when properly downright pissed off, well, he usually ends up killing something. He has a soft spot for 9 year-old boys, and younger children, due to his unfortunate background.

Background/History: Well, there's not too much to tell. His father was a drunk, who abused his mum. He beat her every friday night, then couldn't remember a thing the following morning, by then his wife was too afraid to tell him what happened, so he assumed that his eldest son (this was when Aaron was 14) had been taking advantage of his being drunk, and then beat his own mother. So every weekend, this cycle would happen. He would beat the wife, then the wife would let him beat Aaron. One fateful Friday, when Aaron was walking home from school, at about 6pm, he saw a spaceship crash over the forest (hoping I'm not ripping off green lantern too much here). He met an alien, who was very old, and near death. The alien was sent by his race, to find a keeper of the universe powers, which was created due to the big bang. It passed down from race to race, and each race got given a chance to become worthy of keeping the powers, and defending the universe. The alien said, that the powers can take on any shape or form, and the powers reflect your strengths. But the alien warned Aaron, that if he portrayed too much emotion within the first 8 hours of bonding, then it would have an effect on the rest of his life. The alien (like ET) then produced a bright yellow light at the tip of its finger, and put it into Aaron's chest. Aaron replied; 'why me? Why was I chosen?' The Alien replied; 'You must protect the universe, the divine forces chose you to be in this place at this time-'

The real reason? Aaron queried. The alien just shrugged. 'Listen kid, you where just in the right place at the right time. Peace out, I gotta get back to my wife and kids' and with that thoughtful, heartwarming message, the alien flew back to the stars. And Aaron's life would have gone uphill from then. But the universe has an annoying way of balancing things out, and giving horrible tragedies to perfectly nice people with too much power, because it is afraid that they will rebel and create their own reality. The universe doesn't care wether you live or die, nor what affect you have in the environment around you. It doesn't care if you're the feral dog biting everything ankles and hurting everything in sight... just as long as you're on the other end of the leash. So, everything would have been fine, if it was Wednesday or Thursday, or any other weekday. But today was different. Today, was Fateful Friday. When Aaron got home, he had found his father had got pissed earlier, and decided to come home early to greet his wife and kids. Now normally, Aaron would have just gone up to his room and blocked his ears from the screaming. But this time, the old bastard had got his younger brother tommy involved. Aaron heard his name being screamed by his mother, and he rushed into the small kitchen, to find his father was just about to slit Tommy's throat. His mother and he screamed Tommy's name. Tommy's mother began to writhe, screaming on the floor, and she went limp. Aaron saw that he had also been fatefully wounded on the chest, and that was part of her screaming plight.

As Tommy looked into Aaron's eyes, they began to water. Aaron had tears streaming down his face, as he stared at Tommy. The old Drunkard was now pressing the tip of the knife to the right hand-side of Tommy's throat. Tommy whispered 'Aaron. Remember me. Remember that I will always lo-' and the old bastard slit Poor young Tommy's throat. Aaron whispered Tommy's name, as his head rolled onto the floor and into a corner. The old man came at Aaron with the knife, but Aaron didn't care any more, he just waited for it to be over. And as his father plunged the knife into Aaron Slate's brain, something clicked. A voice whispered to him... THE BEAST HAS ARISEN. YOUR PATH HAS BEEN CHOSEN. WOLF, BE THE ANIMAL... The gap in Aaron's head sealed. The knife popped out. And Aaron Slate released a beam of energy, green with white lightning spiralling around the beam as it seared into the chest of his father, and passe through his father, through the walls of their small, suburban house, and out into the night sky like a green headlight, dotted with white. Aaron stopped the beam. He ran upstairs, packed a few clothes, some food from the larder, and a picture of Tommy, and stuffed them into a large rucksack. He knew the Police would be on their way soon, so he ran out of the hole in the wall, and flew. He flew for 3 hours, from London to Dover, where he snuck aboard a ferry to France. By the time word had spread of the murder, Aaron was aborad the luggage hold of a plane headed for africa. For six years, he spent his time disposing of Murderers, rapists, vandals, and thugs. He lowered gun crime in over 20 states to 2%, and developed his powers to his full potential. But he knew that 3 things where missing. He knew that has power could be unlocked further, but didn't know how. 2, he knew that something was brewing, but he didn't know what. He had a feeling, it was something that was going to happen in America. And 3, he didn't have a purpose. A REAL purpose in life, that he could strive for...

When the war came, that was the perfect excuse. Whilst the justice league fell in America, he and some other low-level superhumans, as well as some native, re-took the whole of South Africa, in just 2 years. He is now in America, teamed up with the rebels. You see, For Renegade, there is no before the war. There is no after. There is only the legend of Renegade, and how he will save us all, if he can first save us from himself.

Superpower(s)/Special Abilities/Etc: Breathe Underwater, Survive the vacuum of space, Heal himself from any injury, however much fatal, Shoot energy beams, construct objects out of Energy, Super Strength, Fly, and Mutate his body into any conceivable piece of machinery, or weaponry. He also merged with tech, and BECAME it, with techno organic skin, granted by the sheer power of the universe power. He also has a voice in his head that Mimicks his personality, With the entity known as Wolf, inhabiting his mind, it is just as angry as him, but thinks clearly when Aaron is in a rage. It usually calms him, and advises him and directs him. Sorta like the Voice of Blue Beatle. (for tech refeance, see the Game; Prototype 2). He has a few vulnerabilities, one being that if he is beaten enough, he can be detained. If you shake his brain, it will become like scrambled egg, and he will not be able to heal properly for about 2 days. Whilst he can survive without Oxygen, he cannot go without it for more than 2 days before going into a coma/vegetative state. If an EXTREMELY powerful Psychic can break down his mental shields, Beat the all-powerful entity that inhabits his brain (Wolf), AND survive the aura of the Universal Power without being vaporised like every other being that has ever dared to access it Psychically... Then your home free, I guess. Also, If someone managed to temporarily overload him with power, i.e. if 20 elementals blasted him with energy beams, so that eventually he absorbed too much and had to regenerate and consume the energy, putting him in a coma-like stasis for 10 minutes, then hid body would be at risk to Physical attack, and if damaged beyond repair whilst in a comatose state, then when he is revived, he will shut down and go into a coma PERMANENTLY. But his deepest, Darkest weakness, is the following... If someone says the words that Tommy said on that fateful night, should anyone ever discover it, then Aaron Slate would explode with anger, and detonate like an Atom bomb with a radius of one continent, and be blasted out of existence, unless he could keep himself in control 20 seconds before the word was said, so ideally you would need to have him angry before you said the word, to overload him quickly and efficiently.

Species: A human, but has the ability to become part cyborg/Organic Tech

Member of the Renegades: Yes, but he works with any of the rebels

If yes to the above, then list your position or duties if you have any: Lieutenant, His duties are usually on the front line, as it is nearly impossible to kill him, and He has a lot of useful abilities.

If yes to the previous two, then do you want to be mutated, if starting out as a human member of the Renegades? No, His powers explain all.

If not a member, were you planning to join? He is already a member

List your job, designation, position, or duties in the Villain community: N/A

Roleplay Sample: Umm, I don't really get this. If you are asking me to put my character, into a 1st Person situation that can give you a better grasp on him, then, um here goes. If not, then just enjoy it:

"I flew through the streets, lying down with my head raised, as us heros usually do. Though I'm no hero. Never was. I broke their precious golden rule on day one. I killed. I LET people be killed. In front of my own eyes. The Africans pretended to like me, but they were all just scared of me. Too scared to even ADMIT they were scared. I think they were all relieved when they heard that I was going off to America to fight the war. I had liberated them, I had done my job, and now they were free of my looming presence. I often contemplate wether anyone could have killed me. I fell like Darquesse, out of that Skullduggery Pleasant book. Not that any of these Americans would understand what Skulduggery Pleasant is. I don't dislike them, I think that a lot of the people in Britain gave them all a had time, friendly to the face, and then snide behind the nation's back. You know what I miss? Says Wolf. 'Shut up wolf, no one cares what you think, only I can hear you, and I couldn't give a crap' I say aloud. Ooh, you're touchy! It replies. So, what where you saying before? You don't think anyone can kill you? 'No, I didn't say that' I reply aloud, but it continues and cuts me off. Well, what about Martian Manhunter? Or his Niece? It says. 'They're both dead now, and besides, I don't think they could. Remember the Psychic in Zimbabwe? He tried to enter my mind, and I just shut him off-' WE shut him off, corrected Wolf. Besides, it continued, Manhunter is stronger than that old codger, and his niece is stronger than ol' green slap-head himself! It replied. 'Don't speak ill of the dead.' I reply. Yeah, it said, I Guess you're right. Wolf had changed it's accent in the past 3 months, from a London Cockney accent, to a thick, american-Italian mafia accent. It amused me, almost as much as it amused him. As we flew past a broken down hospital, and a destroyed hospital down the main street, something caught my eye. My heart lurched, and I had to stop myself from landing next to that telephone box and upchucking this past month's meals. Next to the hospital, was a single teddy bear. one of it's eyes were missing. It looked like timmy, tommy's teddy bear. It's him again, isn't it, Wolf whispered. Tommy. Do you want to have a moment, it said sympathetically. 'I've never know you to be this caring' I say. Well, I was their last night. And, I'm a part of you. Part Universe, and Part Slate. And thirdly, I am also an outside opinion. I CAN feel sympathetic you know. I feel the bubble of Plasma build up inside of me, as I remember the blood and gore of that night. As his entrails spilled across the floor, the tubing spill out of this neck, his head going back on a small skin hinge, before falling off completely. I was becoming angry. 'Wolf, You better find me something to channel my anger into, or I'm gonna light up the next 3 streets up like missiles on a Catherine Wheel' Wolf perked up inside my mind, and I tensed, my hand growing hot and white with the focused energy. Bad news, wolf said. I think the scout mission kinda failed, as there is a whole battalion of mutated freaks behind us. But the good news, is that I found something you can channel your anger into. My Grimace turned into an evil smile behind my mask. 'Perfect' I mutter. 'Target Practise'. A mutated Hound breaks from their ranks, as big as a Tiger, with giant claws and slobbering jaws ready to tear me into pieces. I turn on the spot, and with my pin-point accurate sense, I tear through the jumping Mutt's chest, and as my Hand closes over its heart, I Fire off my first energy beam of the hour, Blasting it back with so much force, that it fly's back to the Mutants ranks, crushing one of the smaller male mutants. The shuffling pack stops, snarling and cocking their heads. Their eyes are dull, and they remind me of a zombie Hoard. They can't work out what I am. I snarl at them, Laughing and smiling as I do so. God, it's been long since I could let loose my rage. 'Right then, you bunch of slobbering Freaks, WHOSE NEXT!?!?!' They all stare at me for a moment, before they all sprint at me, claws extended. I brace myself for the fight, Wolf urging me on. and the Massacre begins..."

Other: Not much else to mention. If you want to know anything else about my character, then feel free to PM me, or just ask, As i've subscribed to this thread anyways.

I spent a lot of time on this, so please induct me into your awesome RPG!!! regards, DONUT

You did fine, it's just you need to format your paragraphs so they don't become one big wall of text (the RP sample).

Anyway, Bron and I talked it over in a recent chat, and we both approved it. So you're good to go.

Oh right, I forgot to add that little part. No one knows he is a boy apart from his family or people he has told.

Name and Last Name (If you have one): Ethan Gallagher

Hero or Villain: Hero

Super Hero/Villain Alias: Lifebane

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Description: Lifebane isn't very tall, only reaching about 5'7, and he is a little chubby. His hair is brown, normally spiked up with amounts of hair gel that should be illegal, with blonde tips. He has a round face, which is still baby faced, and a splash of freckles around his nose, which is rather large. His eyes are every so slightly sunken into his head and are a dull brown. His skin is slightly tanned, with the odd splashing of freckles mainly around his arms and legs. He is normally seen wearing a black T-shirt, a pair of black trousers and a white cloak. The cloak has a black trim and a large picture of an ankh on it, which is the same symbol that hangs around his neck as a necklace. He also wears a pair of fingerless gloves on his hands, or as Lifebane likes to call them 'Hobo gloves'.

Personality: Lifebane is as much of a pacifist as he can be, as in he will never start a fight on his own and will only retaliate if he was attacked first. He is a very optimistic person, a result of his survival, and will always look on the bright side of things, no matter how bad they are. He is a very cheery boy, liking to cheer on his comrades during a battle. This has been known to be annoying to others, but Lifebane doesn't care, he feels as if it is something that he needs to do. As a result of his powers, Lifebane also a bit of a reckless side. He has no problems running headfirst into situations, assuming that sure there is a chance that he would get hurt, but the likely hood of serious and fatal damage isn't high enough for him to really consider.

Background/History: Born in Sydney, Australia Lifebane had a pretty ordinary childhood, nothing about it all could have been considered extraordinary, without showing even the slightest of signs that he possessed super powers. However that changed the day he turned thirteen. It was late at night and Lifebane was sound asleep, his parents had ducked out to pick up some bread and milk, the corner shop just down the corner and they were sure that it would be fine. When they got back, their house was ablaze. When the fire was extinguished they found Lifebane alive, but covered in severe 3rd degree burns. It was not expected that he would live longer than a week.

However, one night in the ICU something miraculous happened. Lifebane suddenly woke up, completely free of any burns. The next morning, his entire family was shocked and overjoyed to find that Lifebane had been completely cured of all his burns. His family claimed it to be divine intervention, but Lifebane knew better than that. Something was different about him now, and he wanted to know what it was. Over the next couple of years he experimented with his gift, to see what it was that he could heal from. Soon he discovered that he could not only heal himself, but others too. Lifebane had a short stint with the Teen Titans, however he found that he didn't really fit in too well and so he left. However once again he decided to help his former team mate and joined the Renegades in Dark City.

Superpower(s)/Special Abilities/Etc: Primarily Lifebane is a healer, and he can either heal through contact or from distances, though the former is more effective than the latter. He is able to heal most injuries, however he does need some time do so which means that he can't heal injuries that would mean near instantaneous death. His body will also heal itself, with the same restrictions as healing others.

Another power he has, though this one is very rarely used, is that he has the ability to sap life. He would only use this ability if he were so badly hurt that he couldn't heal himself, or if there was an enemy that was invincible in any other way. Another reason as to why this is used incredibly rarely, is that it saps Lifebane's energy to an extant that his body puts itself in a coma to restore his energy. He also has a much milder version of this ability, able to siphon of small amounts of energy from people. This ability is a lot less taxing on his body, and allows him to have some form of protection.

Species: N/A

Member of the Renegades: Yes

If yes to the above, then list your position or duties if you have any: Healer

If yes to the previous two, then do you want to be mutated, if starting out as a human member of the Renegades? Yes

Roleplay Sample: Sample

Other: Lifebane is very fabulously gay.

Donut, your character is a bit overpowered, but we need these kinds of characters with what we're up against. Also, I gotta say, no world heroes are dead. Sorry, but we can't have them dieing. If we need to expand the setting, they might come in handy later. As Neo said, you're good to go. You did very well and it was a fun read.

Food Guy, very nice character. We really could go for a healer with a life sucking ability as well. And the gay thing would be fun to watch happen. Watch out guys! Maybe with your character around we will finally get some more female characters? Even if it's just to avoid advances from Lifebane. Also, I am honored to see another FB player join us.

Adding.

Back Again...
Captain Reaction

Name and Last Name: Samuel Couard
Hero or Villain: Hero
Super Hero Alias: Captain Reaction (Known as The Captain)
Age: 18
Gender: Male

Description: Samuel was always a pretty athletic kid. He was never ripped, but still had muscle definition. He stands at 6'0, and weighs 172 lbs. Although most would call him white, he is 1/4th pacific islander, which makes his skin complexion darker than those typically of the region. This heritage also is what gives him his dark brown hair and fair blue eyes. With his thin lips and high ears, he might even be elfish.

As a citizen, he would wear what he could afford. Which was anything. He tried not to show off too much, but he looked good while doing it. High label clothes were a must, and he was very well groomed. Not a hair out of line. As a member of the renegade, he dresses in a pretty conservative costume, keeping only what he needs. He wears a light blue stretch suit that ends at his thighs and his forearms. On the backside of his arms, his back, chest, and the front of his legs, are these are thick, viable pads that reduce impact by absorbing the blows dealt to these areas.

Personality: Sam has never been a needy person; he’ll just take what he could get. Because of his upbringing, that means he had always gotten the nicer stuff, but he didn’t need it like some of his friends did. Losing his personal belongings never meant much to him. He is a good loyal friend, and will gladly do anything for anyone. However, he is utilitarian in practice as a hero; he will do what is necessary for the cause over what is the right thing to do. That can sometimes mean that he toes the line between heroes and villains, but Sam’s personal motivation against the villains and his sense of justice definitely keep him on the right side. Introverted by birth, his personal development has forced him to become more extroverted, and he sees the value in talking to people and making friends. He is comfortable in those situations, although if he got to choose between social interaction and individual planning time, he would pick being by himself over being with others.

He is a natural born leader, inspiring others to get tasks done. This includes telling lies to motivate others, convincing people that he is right and they are wrong, and that his mission is the most important thing right at that moment. Sometimes, people can see through this, but not very often. In the end, Samuel’s heart is in the right place, but to him, the end justifies the means.

Background/History:
Before all this; before it all changed. Life was much better than what it is now for Samuel. His father was a wealthy senator; you know the kind. They get elected to serve every year, even with the 'rumored scandal' that happens every year. His dad was probably bribed a lot too. Growing up, Samuel was oblivious to most of it; he heard things about his dad, but he didn’t believe them. His dad was his hero; doing his civil duty to help make the city a better place. Samuel's dad also made major bank, so Samuel got a lot of whatever he wanted. Not that Samuel was a needy child; he just liked major brands better than the off brands, so that's what he wore. He didn't brag about it, he thought it was normal. That's what all his friends wore in high school, too. He didn't get anything too fancy, either. Just a 2012 Camero, the one that looked just like Bumblebee from the Transformers Movie. That's how Samuel grew up, not needing too much.

Samuel played football in high school, second-string quarterback. He just wasn't fast enough or strong enough to be the first string. However, what he had over the others was his mind. No, Samuel wasn't some nerd, but he could think super-fast. He was really good at making decisions, and reacting faster than others. This advantage, however, still didn't get him first string. But in a large school, second string was still really good, and he had a good group of friends because of it.

Samuel's mom was a stay-at-home. She didn't have to worry or do much, besides raise Samuel and take care of his father. Even then, she had nannies, maids, and cooks to do that stuff for her.

It was during the time of the takeover that Samuel's world flipped upside down.

While people would try and hassle Sam about his Dad doing a bad job, Samuel held to the idea that it wasn’t true; that they did not understand what his dad did. When the villains started taking over, and everything was failing, Sam ran to his dad, and asked him what was going on. Sam was ten at the time, and understood it wasn’t good. However, his dad just stared out the window, and muttered, insistently, ‘it’s for the best…. It’s for the best…’ As it would turn out, his dad had played a big hand in getting the bad guys to where they were. It was those same villains, who funded his campaigns, and he was getting a good deal out of it; his family would be let be; and it was true. Most of Sam’s neighborhood, being wealthier, escaped the full wrath of the villains. They were not left alone, however, and were still forced to obey and be controlled by the villains. In Sam’s neighborhood during this time, there was great fighting and riots on the streets, as people fought one another, accusing them of being traitors. Traitors to the villains, traitors to the city, their families, their countries… And none of it ended well. Sam was only saved from the enslavement of everyone around him because of his nanny. This nanny was a man, who believed in a greater good; who was a speaker of the Titans. He believed there was a place that Sam could go and be safe, and the nanny died getting Sam there. Sam found himself amongst a bunch of people in the sewers, the renegades.

It was that moment that Samuel realized how fortunate of a life he had led; he realized how much he had owned, and how much others did not. But now, they were all together. They were all on the same boat. Sam vowed to help those in lesser need, and to take up the mantle of the hero that Sam had believed his dad once owned. He trained when he could, learning some hand to hand combat, and some small blade work with knives. The thing that made Sam stand out, even against other heroes, was his natural decision making skills and reaction speed. It was Starfire who noticed it, and suggested that it could be augmented by Diamite Mutation.

Sam really was opposed to the idea. He was afraid he would become a monster. Starfire and he talked about it a lot, but never could she get him to agree to it. One night, though, Sam was really considering it. He had lost in a spar with some others who were either natural supers or mutated, and he couldn’t take losing again. He sat through the night, staring at the little pebble Starfire had showed him; it sat in a glass box on a pedestal. It glowed irrationally, in a very attractive way. In what seemed like a whole day had gone by, Sam checked his watch. It showed that only 4 hours had gone by, and his watch was ticking very slowly. After some investigation, it seemed as though his mind had sped up to six times the speed of everyone else, including his perception of time. This made his already fast reflexes up to par with super-humans, and his thinking allowed him to create plans and back-up plans with speed and precision only dreamed of by the military’s highest generals. With this, he quickly knew what to do and what was going on. Although there aren’t really ‘ranks’ in the Renegade’s system, he considers himself that of a general, usually giving orders, or leading missions himself. When asked, he calls himself a ‘Strategist Field Officer.’ He has lead a few successful missions against the villains, however they haven’t really lead to many results.

Superpower(s)/Special Abilities/Etc: Super-Active Thinking: He thinks and perceives the world at six times the speed and power of a normal person. This gives him enhanced reaction time and speed, and helps him in making better decisions than a normal person.

He doesn't have super-human strength, not super-human speed, just that reaction time and decision making skills. However, he cannot be thinking at his full potential and reacting six times as fast at the same time; just as a normal person has difficulty multi-tasking. He can do six things with the same brain power of a regular person doing one. He can do three things at double, two things at triple, etc. But if he gives his full six times to thinking, he becomes venerable in the battle field, because he cannot react super fast, which is the only thing that gives him an edge.

While he doesn’t have super intelligence, he can learn six times as fast as a normal person, giving him advanced intelligence through education.

Roleplay Sample:
“Do you want the terrorists to win?” Sam said quietly. There were a few murmurs across the crowd, just the general ‘no.’ Sam stood from his chair with a burst of energy. This time, he shouted “Do you want the terrorists to win?” There were a few more excitable ‘no’s in the crowd, but again, most of the people here were tired. Living in the sewers was taking a toll on them. Sam quickly began his speech, one he was writing right on the spot.

“You call yourselves renegades, huh? You think that just by defying those guys up there, that they are going to say” the next few words were in a mimicking voice “’Oh no! Someone doesn’t agree with us! We’re going to just have to step down and let the heroes win!’” He changed back to his regular voice. “No! That will never happen. We will have to fight through every battle to gain just the smallest of victories against these guys! Think of those who fought before you! Your brothers, your sisters; your friends and family. Those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in this battle we are waging.”

At this point, Sam seemed a bit choked up. His voice calmed down a bit, and he continued. “I… I had a brother! A younger brother. He… He was the bravest soul you would ever have met, and he was merely 14 years old! But he was willing to be mutated, willing to go head first into the fight to save our city! The city we were raised in! Truth be told, he was probably the most valiant fighter I had ever seen… Even more-so than the long-lost leader of the Titans, Robin.” At the mention of Robin, those didn’t already have all their attention on Sam, suddenly did. “Even with his new-found powers, my brother was unable to defeat the evil around him. Betrayed by his own people, he was taken and slain by the villains who run this town. And the worse part of it? I had to watch. Watch us lose a battle, and watch us lose my brother.” At this point, Samuel was shedding tears, as were many in the audience, including a few mothers who wept over memories of lost sons, and brothers who were hugging one another, exasperated at losing their best friend in life.

There was a long pause. Sam sniffed, and wiped away a few tears. “So, you wonder why I’m in this fight. Now, I need to know why you’re in this fight. Let me hear you, do you want the terrorists to win?” This time, there was a resounding ‘NO!’ from the hall, followed by clapping, cheering, and a few sobs as well. Sam had done his job, and even if this was just a few people, he had motivated them into action, just as he had planned. Another important person in the renegades went to the podium now, calming down the fervor of people, and started listing tasks for the day. Sam just left the stage, headed to his room. Along the way, a crying mother came up to him.

“Captain, I’m so sorry for your loss. Please, what was your brother’s name?”

Sam, The Captain as he was known here, kept walking, and only muttered “I don’t have a brother” leaving the mother in a state of shock, unable to process what she had just heard. She was walked away by someone else, another mother, and taken back to the assembly. Sam finally got to his destination, his strategic headquarters. It looked like a library, books strewn everywhere, and maps of the city plastering the walls. He took them all in at once, refreshing his imaginary map in his head. He knew the plans, he had them perfected. He and a team of three would infiltrate the cities only remaining communications tower, dispatching of anyone guarding it. They would then hack into the system at the top, allowing them to have access to whatever those villains were communicating about, as well as be able to send out a distress signal to let others know that there was a resistance in the dark city. With all the knowledge he had gained in prepping for this plan, he assumed the distress signal would be active for about three days before the villains would stop it. Plenty of time to reach those who could be reached. He also figured that because the villains would be so distracted by the distress signal, they wouldn’t notice that their communications were being tracked, either.

He ran a simulation of the plan twice through in his head, from start to finish. It seemed perfect, as all of his plans were. In what would seem like hours to a regular person, he only spent twenty minutes on it, enough to be sure of it. Soon, those selected to go on his mission would arrive at his door, and he would brief them and then suit up to go. The Captain was ready, and waiting for his team to arrive.
