Chapter 9. Living Fossil
“Hmm…alright, seems like there’s no one outside the door.” Anthony noticed as he looked through the door.
Anthony then opened the door and sneakily started to make his escape.
“Alright, first I need to find where my Pokemon are, and then get out of here.”
Anthony then checked several rooms to see if his pokeballs were in there, but they were nowhere in sight. Anthony then heard some voices coming down from the other end of the hallway. Anthony then went into the closest room so the Rockets wouldn’t see him.
“Whew…that was a close one.” Anthony said moving his hand across his forehead. “Huh? What the?”
Anthony saw a huge machine in the middle of the room with several computers in there as well.
“I guess this must be Team Rocket’s laboratory.” Anthony commented as he looked around. “Hey isn’t that the Dome Fossil that Hikaru found in Mt. Moon?”
“Yeah, can you believe that?” A distant voice said.
“Man, what a great joke.” Another voice said, as it got closer to Anthony’s location.
After hearing the voices approaching to the room, Anthony hid himself behind the huge machine. The door to the room then opened up and two Rockets walked in.
“Well it seems everything is fine in here.” One of the Rockets said.
“Yep, hopefully it’ll stay that way until that fossil has been revived.” The other Rocket said.
The two rockets then left the room and Anthony got out from hiding behind the huge machine.
“So this machine is revived fossilized Pokemon?” Anthony said puzzled. “Well I better hurry up and find my Pokemon before they notice me missing.”
Anthony then walked out of the fossil machine room and then hurried up to find his Pokemon. Anthony checked several other rooms, but still no luck.
“Err…where the hell could my pokeballs be?!” Anthony blurted out.
“Hey, did you hear something?” A Rocket said.
“No, I think your just hearing things.” Another Rocket replied.
“Well I think I'm going to check up the that kid.” The Rocket said as he turned around and went towards the room Anthony left. The Rocket opened the door and yelled, “The kid is missing!”
All of a sudden the alarm went off and Rockets were running everywhere looking for Anthony.
“Great…I guess they know I'm missing now.” Anthony said as he quickly went into a room. “Hey, my pokeballs!”
Anthony then gathered the three pokeballs on the desk in a random room and put then back into his pouch.
“Okay now I can fight back.”
Anthony then left the room and was trying to find the exit.
“Hey kid, come back here!” A rocket yelled as he spotted Anthony.
“Err…Go Ledyba!”
“A battle huh? Fine with me! Go Koffing!”
Koffing resembles a purple floating sphere with large pores over its surface that release poisonous gas.
“Ledyba use giga drain!”
Ledyba then started to grow green and stared at Koffing. Koffing then started to glow green also as his energy was being drained away from him. Koffing then fell unconscious as he lost all of his energy.
“What?!” The Rocket said as he called back Koffing. “It doesn’t matter, I’ll bring you back by force then.
As the Rocket ran towards Anthony, Anthony shouted, “Ledyba use supersonic!”
Ledyba then made a huge screeching noise confusing the rocket.
“Heh, that’ll teach you rocket *******s.” Anthony said as he called back Ledyba and ran.
Anthony then ran into two more Rockets and called out Ledyba.
“Ledyba, supersonic!” Anthony commanded.
After the two Rockets were confused they ran into each other and fell down.
About thirty minutes after the alarm has been set, Anthony has battled countless Rockets and his Ledyba was starting to get exhausted.
“Man, they just keep on coming.” Anthony thought to himself. “Alright, breaks over, time to start moving again.”
Anthony then came across a set of stairs and noticed they led up.
“Maybe it’s a way out.” Anthony said in relief.
“Where do you think your going?” A familiar voice said.
Anthony turned around and said, “Great…Hikaru.”
“Heh, not glad to see me?” Hikaru asked as he flipped his silver hair back.
“Why do you want me to stay here Hikaru?” Anthony asked.
“Well…that Rocket that brought you here said you had potential to be an excellent trainer, and now you’ve seen too much of our hideout.” Hikaru explained. “So now it’s time we battled each other. It’ll be a two on two battle.
“Fine with me.” Anthony said reaching for his pokeball in his pouch. “Go Ledyba!”
“Go, Sneasel!” Hikaru shouted.
As Sneasel came out, he automatically took out his claws from his forepaws.
“I better take the offensive right away.” Anthony thought. “Ledyba use giga drain!”
Ledyba then started to glow green and stared at Sneasel. Sneasel then started to glow green and started to feel light headed as he was losing energy fast.
“I must admit I didn’t except Ledyba to be able to use giga drain, but no matter.” Hikaru said to Anthony. “Sneasel, use icy wind!”
Sneasel then started to move its paws around and then pointed them straight towards Ledyba and Anthony. Sneasel then shot multiple tiny ice shards and freezing wind towards Anthony and Ledyba.
“Ledyba use Light Screen!” Anthony quickly ordered as the ice shards were coming fast.
Ledyba was then covered in a yellow barrier taking less damage than it would have. But all of a sudden all of the ice shards were targeting Anthony. Anthony then tried to jump out of the way, but it was too late. His legs were frozen so he couldn’t escape.
“You didn’t think I was only aiming at Ledyba did you?” Hikaru said with an evil smile.
“Dammit, I didn’t think he would’ve attacked me.” Anthony said.
Taking too much damage from the icy wind, plus his exhaustion in the other battles, Ledyba collapsed.
“Ledyba are you okay?” Anthony shouted.
Anthony then called back Ledyba and was thinking which Pokemon he should use now.
“Phanpy never recovered from those five battles before on Nugget Bridge…so I guess I only have one option left.” Anthony said reaching for another pokeball. “Go Poliwhirl!”
“Poli-poli” Poliwhirl shouted as it stretched.
“Alright Poliwhirl, use hypnosis!”
Poliwhirl’s eyes then started to glow blue as he stared at Sneasel. Sneasel then started to struggle to keep its eyes open, but couldn’t and fell asleep.
“Not bad…” Hikaru said calling back Sneasel. “Now the fun begins.” Hikaru said with a smile as he reached for another pokeball. “Go Kabuto!”
Kabuto takes its appearance a horseshoe crab. Covered in a hard brown shell that has two small, red luminous dot-like eyes.
“What kind of Pokemon is that?” Anthony said surprised, as he hasn’t seen anything Pokemon like it before.
“It’s called Kabuto, it’s an ancient Pokemon that we revived from the Dome Fossil.”
“You mean Team Rocket actually revived the Pokemon in the Dome Fossil?!”
“Yes, it was an excellent discover and opportunity for Team Rocket.”
“Well I guess this is a good opportunity for me to see how strong I’ve become. Poliwhirl use water gun!”
Poliwhirl then shot a high amount of concentrated water from his swirl and shot it towards Kabuto. Kabuto then tried to dodge it, but it was too slow and it was hit and was sent back forcefully by the concentrated water.
“That’s a pretty powerful water gun.” Hikaru commented. “Lets see how you like attack, Kabuto use rain dance!”
Lots of dark clouds materialized above Anthony and Hikaru. As the clouds finished materializing they started to drizzle. Soon after the drizzle, a downpour of rain came down on everybody in that area.
“Thanks a lot Hikaru, since you use rain dance, Poliwhirl’s water attacks are more powerful.” Anthony remarked with a smile.
“Heh, don’t mention it, it was well worth it.”
“We’ll see, Poliwhirl use water gun one more time!”
Poliwhirl then shot more concentrated water from its swirl on its body, but the diameter of the water increased due to the power increase from the rain dance.
“Kabuto dodge it.” Hikaru commanded in a tranquil voice.
Kabuto then vanished all of a sudden as the powerful water blast missed him by a few seconds.
“Huh? Last time Kabuto could barely dodge Poliwhirl’s water gun, how did it get so fast?” Anthony wondered.
“Because rain dance also powers up water attacks, but Kabuto has a special ability called swift swim. Swift swim takes effect when rain dance is an effect. So now Kabuto’s speed is doubled and its water attacks are doubled.” Hikaru explained laughing a little in the process.
“Great…double the power and speed, that hardly seems fair.” Anthony thought to himself as he was beginning to break a sweat.
“Now Kabuto, use your mega drain!”
Kabuto then started to glow green, but not as bright as when a Pokemon uses giga drain. Poliwhirl then started to glow green as energy started to be sucked out of him.
“What? I didn’t think Kabuto, a water type Pokemon could use grass attacks!” Anthony shouted. “Is Kabuto part grass type also?”
“No, Kabuto is a water type and a rock type. So water attacks don’t do a lot a damage since its part water, even though its part rock.” Hikaru explained.
Kabuto then stopped sucking energy out of Poliwhirl as it could no longer store any more energy in its body.
“Kabuto use scratch on Poliwhirl’s swirl.” Hikaru declared calmly.
Kabuto then charged towards Poliwhirl and then jumped into the air. Kabuto then landed on top of Poliwhirl and started to scratch Poliwhirl’s body with its four scuttlers.
“Poli!” Poliwhirl shouted as it was in pain.
Kabuto then jumped off of Poliwhirl’s body and went back to its original spot near Hikaru.
“Alright time to put Kabuto asleep like we did Sneasel. Poliwhirl use hypnosis!”
Poliwhirl’s eyes then started to glow blue and its swirl started to move in a counter clockwise rotation. But all of a sudden Poliwhirl stopped and looked like he was in pain.
“What’s going on?!” Anthony asked in a strident voice.
“Well you see, Poliwhirl’s most powerful attacks involve the use of that swirl on its body, so if the swirl was damaged, then he couldn’t use any powerful attacks.” Hikaru explained. “Admit it, you lost.”
“Err…Poliwhirl can’t use any psychic or water attacks now, just normal and since Kabuto is part rock, it’ll hardly do any damage. Not to mention Poliwhirl doesn’t know any fighting attacks yet since I haven’t been able to train him much.” Anthony thought.
“Well what are you going to do now?” Hikaru asked.
Anthony then reached for Poliwhirl’s pokeball and uttered, “Poliwhirl return!”
“Ah, so you see that you couldn’t have won?”
“Pretty much, but I still got one more Pokemon left.” Anthony said reaching for Phanpy's pokeball. “Go Phanpy!”
“Phan-phan…” Phanpy cried in a tired voice.
“Haha, are you kidding me? Phanpy’s completely worn out, he has no chance against Kabuto.” Hikaru expressed amused.
“Heh…well there’s one more move that Phanpy can use in order to help me out.” Anthony claimed.
“Really? And what’s that attack?” Hikaru asked Anthony.
“Heh…I’ll show you, Phanpy use Take Down!”
“If you were going to use normal attacks, you should’ve kept using Poliwhirl you retard.” Hikaru stated. “Since Kabuto is part rock, it’ll hardly do any damage.”
“Heh, who said I'm attacking Kabuto?” Anthony chuckled.
Right as Phanpy was about to charge into Kabuto recklessly, he turned to the left and smashed into the wall and a whole bunch of smoke and debris appeared.
“What the hell? Why would you tell your Pokemon to attack the wall?” Hikaru complained.
“Phanpy return.” Anthony muttered so Hikaru couldn’t hear him.
Anthony then used the smoke and debris to make his escape up the stairs, as he knew he couldn’t win against Hikaru. As the smoke cleared, Hikaru looked around thinking, “He knew he couldn’t win against an ancient Pokemon, so he used the environment to make his escape…finally a worthy foe that uses his head…” Hikaru then started to grin in anticipation of his next encounter of Anthony.
Anthony on the other hand was running up the stairs thinking, “Damn, how long are these stairs?” Anthony then saw in the distance a dead end. “Huh? What the hell is this? There’s no freaking way out from here!”
Anthony then started to examine the wall to see if there was any secret switch to open the door, but he couldn’t find any.
“Err…this place is really pissing me off…”
Anthony then sat down in front of the door and waited there thinking of how he’s going to get out. About 15 minutes later, Anthony heard a distant noise coming from the other side.
“Well I better make it to the hideout before the game corner opens.” A mysterious voice mumbled. The wall then started to move slowing to the left making a huge screeching noise. Anthony then held his ears shut with his hands over his ears trying to block the annoying noise. Anthony then noticed that a Rocket walked in from the other side of the wall.
“So the door had to be opened from the other side huh?” Anthony murmured. “That explains why it was so damn hard to figure out how to open it.”
The Rocket then started to make his way down the stairs, but realized he forgot to close the door.
“Now’s my chance!” Anthony blurted out.
“Hey who’s there?” The rocket questioned.
As the Rocket turned around, he noticed Anthony running straight towards him. The Rocket freaked out that someone was running towards him reached for his pokeball. Anthony quickly then ran as fast as he could then punched the rocket across his face. The Rocket then fell to the ground in pain and was out cold.
“Thanks a lot for coming along and opening the door for me. Though I do feel bad for punching you across the face.” Anthony apologized in a sarcastic voice.
Anthony then walked out of the stairwell and into the room on the other side of the wall. Anthony saw tons of game machines and a huge counter for where they keep all of the money.
“Wow, guess Team Rocket wasn’t lying after all about their hideout is under the Celadon Game Corner.” Anthony noted. “So the secret button was under this poster that that retard Rocket left uncovered…I guess all Rockets are stupid.”
Right as Anthony covered up the button to the Rocket’s hideout with a poster, a man opened the door to the game corner.
“Who the hell are you?!” The man requested in a worried yet angry voice.
“Well you see, funny story…” Anthony was saying before he got interrupted.
“Your trying to rob the Game Corner, aren’t you?”
The Game Corner’s boss then took out his cell phone and dialed 911.
“Hello? Yes someone’s here is right in front of me trying to rob my store…he’s here at the Game Corner near the Celadon Gym.”
“Celadon Gym?” Anthony restated in his mind.
“Please get here as fast as you can officer. Thank you.” The Game Corner owner said as he turned off his cell phone.
“Please sir, you have to understand that I'm not trying to rob the Game Corner.” Anthony tried to explain to the owner.
“I’ve heard enough out of you. I better make sure you don’t try to run before the cops come.” The owner said as he took out a pokeball. “Go Vileplume!”
The Game Corner owner sent a Pokemon that resembled a giant flower, with a short purple stem for a body.
“Vileplume use stun spore!”
Vileplume then shot out gold dust out of its big red pedal on top of its head. Anthony then tried to run away from the dust, but couldn’t.
“What the hell is this stuff? I can’t move my body.” Anthony acknowledged.
“Stun spore basically paralyzes the target, so you won’t be moving anytime soon, have fun in jail criminal.” The Game Corner owner responded.
About 10 minutes later, you could hear a distant siren approaching the building. The cops then busted into the Game Corner and asked the owner, “Okay where is the criminal?”
“That boy right there.” The owner pointed to Anthony.
“Are you serious? It’s a little boy?” One of the cops said.
“Yes, right as I unlocked the door, I saw this boy in here, he must be an expert criminal, the alarm didn’t sound when he broke in.” The owner mentioned.
“Err…for the last time, I didn’t break in, I was escaping from Team Rocket!” Anthony yelled out in rage.
“My name is Chief Matt, and hold on kid, are you saying Team Rocket is in Celadon City?” The chief officer asked Anthony.
“Yes they are, they’re closer than you think.” Anthony tried to explain.
“Okay well in that case, I understand why you broke into the Game Corner, and it seems you didn’t take anything, so we won’t be pressing charges.” The chief said as an officer searched Anthony and reported back to the chief. “But I'm going to take you back to the station in order to gather information about Team Rocket that you might have.”
The Chief then sprayed Anthony with some kind of antidote to the stun spore. Chief Matt and Anthony went back to the Celadon Police station, where the chief started to asked questions about Team Rocket to Anthony.
“So your telling me that Team Rocket’s hideout is under the Game Corner?”
“Yeah pretty much…that’s what I’ve been trying to tell everyone for the past hour.” Anthony murmured.
“Okay well in that case, I will tell me team to investigate this. Also is there anything I can do to apologize for false accusations?” Chief Matt asked Anthony.
“Well…can you take me to the Pokemon Center in Celadon, I have no idea where to go to get to it.” Anthony pointed out.
“Alright, well I’ll be happy to give you a ride to the Pokemon Center.”
Anthony and Chief Matt got onto a motorcycle and rode to the Pokemon Center. About five minutes after they’ve been riding, Anthony gulped and said, “Whoa…what a huge building.”
“Oh are you talking about the Celadon Department Store?”
“I guess so…what kind of stuff do they sell there?” Anthony pondered.
“Well basically it’s a bigger version of a Pokemon Mart, but most people go to the Celadon Department Store in order to get special stones.” Chief Matt explained.
“Special stones? What do you mean?” Anthony asked.
“Well there are about six special kinds of stones that can evolve certain Pokemon. The six stones are fire, water, thunder, leaf, moon, and sun stones. The Department Store only sells fire, water, thunder, and leaf.”
“Oh…how come they don’t sell moon or sun stones?”
“That’s because moon stones are harder to find than the other types of stones because you can only get them in Mt. Moon…as for the sun stones they aren’t common here in Kanto, but in Johto.” Chief Matt described.
“Oh…okay I’ll have to check that out later.” Anthony replied.
Anthony and Chief Matt made it to the Pokemon Center about ten minutes after they left the station. Anthony then thanked Matt and ran into the Pokemon Center. Anthony then dropped off his three Pokemon and went to get something to eat. Anthony then walked outside and noticed the sun was starting to set. Anthony just lied down on the grass starring up at the yellowish orange sky and looked at the clouds. Anthony then closed his eyes as he remembered a time when him and his brother watched the sunset the day before Rob left on his Pokemon journey.
“Hey Rob, how long do you think your journey is going to be?”
“I don’t know, maybe a year or more. But hopefully by the time you start your journey, I’ll still be continuing mine.” Rob responded as he smiled.
“Heh, you never know, maybe by the time I'm a trainer, we’ll meet at the Pokemon League and battle each other in the competition.” Anthony chuckled.
“That would be fun if we did, but you start your journey three years from now, remember, you have to be fifteen in order to become an official Pokemon Trainer.” Rob explained.
“Yeah I know…I'm still wondering what Pokemon I should start out with.” Anthony confessed.
“Don’t worry about that…just make sure your ready in the next three years, and even if I'm not there on your fifteenth birthday, I’ll still get you a present to help you on your journey.”
“Thanks Rob…I just wish that I could start my journey the same time as you…” Anthony said.
“Yeah, but its alright, I like it this way, it seems better.” Rob mumbled to himself.
“Man…that was so long ago. I wonder where Rob is, I haven’t heard any news from him for such a long time.” Anthony thought to himself.
Anthony then finished watching the beautiful sunset and went back into the Pokemon Center. As Anthony got back into the Pokemon Center, he borrowed sheets from the Pokemon Center and went to bed.
