The Adventures of Yoshi 2~The Sequel
Chapter Five: A Soothing Song
A cool breeze spread into the cabin room. The light cerulean window curtains tilted a bit before returning to their original place.
Two eyes fluttered open to observe the hard ceiling. The eyes were brown, filled with excitement and determination. She came out of her bed, and walked over to the precious silver mirror. She took a look at her hair-a complete mess, as usual. The young woman ignored her looks and smiled at the mirror, ready to start another day.
“Stay awake.” Yoshi told herself as her eyes tried to close.
The white door immediately opened, seeing a familiar face. He wore a tan jacket with a black shirt inside. His pants were the dark hue of brown and his black army boots. Yoshi raised an eyebrow with petulance.
“Ever heard of knocking the door?!” Yoshi peevishly yelled. Her friend’s intrusion has woken her up.
“Oops, sorry.” Prince Atam stated uneasily while scratching the back of his head. He then pointed at her. “You look like an old hag.”
WHAM!
I just had to say that out loud, Prince Atam spoke in his thoughts.
“Ouchies…” Prince Atam said with pain.
“When I want your opinion, I’ll say it!” Yoshi snapped.
“Got it…”
Two more figures were at the door, chuckling a bit from Yoshi and Prince Atam’s recent argue. One was a small yellow bird with a brown hat on his head while the other was a tall and slender young man. He had a dark green jacket with a black shirt. His shoes were a sleek green along with his mellow emerald pants.
“Looks like you’ve got up at the wrong side of the bed.” Thomas observed.
“And the wrong side of the mirror too.” Mix stated with sarcasm.
“Quiet Mix.”
“Good morning!” Janet greeted with as she entered the room with glee. Her shirt was a pale pink with long maroon pants. Her hiking boots were pink along with her brown hat. “Glad you’re awake Yoshi!”
“Huh?” Yoshi asked with puzzlement. “What is it?”
“You better get dressed first! And be sure to put on something comfortable!” Janet called as she and the others left.
“O-kay.” Yoshi replied unsurely.
She then looked over her clothes with great care and scanned them with her eyes.
“What to wear…” Yoshi told herself as she placed her hands on her hips.
~*~*~*~
“What’s taking so long? Yoshi’s quite a turtle!” Prince Atam complained.
“All women take long.” Thomas added as he shut his eyes and continued talking. “They just don’t know how to-”
Janet shut her eyes with tension as she stepped on his left shoe.
“Ow!”
“What about us women?!” Janet threatened.
“Better have kept your mouth shut.” Mix sang.
“That’s right Mix!” Janet agreed as she carried Mix. He was startled to be carried again, fearing cuddles. “You’re such a smart little thing! Yes you are!”
“Oh no…”
“Now I’m going to give you a big hug since you look so cute today!” Janet squealed as she held the helpless bird close to her face and felt his soft feathers.
“Cut it out,” Mix told as his eyes narrowed.
“What’s the matter, Mix? You don’t like hugs?” Prince Atam teased.
“Shut up, birds don’t like to get squeezed.” Mix muttered.
“You’re lucky that you’re a bird who’s loved this much. I don’t think any other bird would be hugged as much as you.” Thomas stated.
“Yeah right…”
A door finally emerged open with a figure of a girl standing. The others stood there with a warm smile. Yoshi came out with a brown vase blazer along with a white tank top. She also was with dark brown pants and brown hiking boots on.
“Hooray, you‘re ready!” Janet spoke with excitement. “Since we’re all ready now, I’ll tell what we’re going to be doing today.”
Her words caught everyone’s attention as they all faced her.
“Today, we’re going hiking fifth teen miles!” Janet squealed. “Isn’t that great?”
“Wha…?!” Yoshi, Mix, and Prince Atam questioned in accord.
“I had a feeling it would do with something with walking.” Yoshi muttered.
“At least I don’t have to walk. I can fly.” Mix stated as he struck his tongue out.
“Oh no you don’t! Look at that tummy! You need to lose weight!” Janet said.
“What! But I’m only three pounds!”
“What do you eat every single day?” Janet questioned.
“Fruits, vegetables, and other foods…”
“I bet you eat sweets every single day! That’s how you’re so fat!”
“I am not fat! It’s these feathers!” Mix complained.
“That’s why you should walk!”
“I’m not walking! Birds fly, not walk!”
Yoshi and Prince Atam laughed while Thomas sweatdropped.
She still doesn’t realize that is Mix we’re talking about, Thomas thought.
“Hmm…I’ll give you all of these grapes if you walk the entire way.” Janet suggested as she took out a plant with small dark red grapes on it. Mix gawked at it. Janet smirked. “What do you say?”
“Okay, as long as I get those perfectly preserved fruits of goodness!” Mix agreed.
“Yay! You won’t regret it Mix!”
“I get the feeling he will soon,” Prince Atam whispered to Yoshi as she nodded.
“Yup, but it’ll be worth it. I discovered¾” Thomas started as Janet’s eyes narrowed.
“We discovered!” Janet snapped.
“Eh heh he,” Thomas sweatdropped. “We discovered a natural wonder that you’ll really like!”
“But I hate hiking!” Prince Atam complained.
“Get used to it.” Yoshi smirked back.
Prince Atam stuck his tongue out at Yoshi. Yoshi did the same. They both exchanged glares of fury.
“Let’s go before we leave you both behind!” Thomas called.
They both nodded in agreement and followed. Mix walked alongside them as Janet stared at Mix closely, making sure that he won’t fly. All of everyone’s items were stored in their backpacks. Thomas soon stopped as everyone followed.
“We have to go over through Kanova Woods which is about…15 miles.” Thomas told.
“Kanova Woods?” Yoshi questioned. “It sounds familiar in some way.”
“This place is great when it comes to hiking although it’s quite difficult to get lost. So if you do, then…I don’t know what to say about you.” Thomas explained.
Everyone tilted their heads towards Prince Atam.
“Hope you don’t get lost or else you’ll look really pathetic,” Mix teased.
“I do not get lost!” Prince Atam stalled. “…Much.”
“Okay, everybody look after Atam!” Thomas smirked. The others chuckled and nodded in agreement.
“Shut up! Stop treating me like a little kid!”
“Then don’t get lost.”
“I don’t and I’ll prove it!” Prince Atam snapped. “I’ll even call Malcin and have him tell ya!”
“Okay, go on ahead,” Mix agreed.
“That’s what I’m doing!” Prince Atam snapped. “Yoshi, could you let me borrow your communicator?”
“Sure,” Yoshi replied as she put her backpack down. She reached her hand into the backpack until she unleashed the tiny communicator and handed it to him.
“Thanks.”
“You’re welcome.”
Everyone stared at Yoshi and Prince Atam carefully. The prince dialed Malcin’s number as everyone surrounded him. Mix hopped on Yoshi’s shoulder, hoping to get a better view.
Just then, a screen came up, revealing Chikara with a huge grin.
“Chikara?” Prince Atam questioned.
“Ah, Atam! I’m surprised you decided to call me. So how are ya?”
“We’re good, see?” Prince Atam told as he and his friends waved.
“Hi guys, Yoshi.”
Yoshi rolled her eyes with annoyance. “Is everybody else there?”
“Of course!” Chikara exclaimed. She then turned her head towards the background. “Tyra, Malcin, Kiori!”
The three then appeared with joy.
“Yoshi!” Tyra cried. “How are you and how is everyone?”
“We’re okay. Today, we’re hiking.” Yoshi answered.
“Hiking?” Malcin asked. “Atam…”
Everyone started to laugh again as Prince Atam’s eyes narrowed.
“Malcin, will you tell everyone how I don’t get lost anymore?”
“Hmm…let me remember all the times you got lost.” Malcin wondered to himself. “There’s the time you got lost in our garden, the woods, and even following chores. Overall, it’s rare when you don’t get lost.”
Everyone from the two locations burst out laughing.
“What kind of idiot gets lost while doing chores?” Mix questioned.
“Only Atam does!” Thomas answered as they continued to laugh.
“That’s cute though.” Kiori stated. “A guy getting lost is cute.”
“Not that we’d like to navigate with ya sometime!” Chikara added.
Prince Atam blushed hard as he sank with embarrassment.
Terrific, what’s worse than two older women making fun of you? Prince Atam asked himself in his thoughts as he huffed a sigh.
“But no need to be embarrassed!” Malcin said with sympathy.
“You’re still our friend.” Tyra comforted.
“We don’t care if you get lost all the time.” Thomas added.
“So don’t feel bad!” Janet finished.
Prince Atam felt his friends’ warmness again. He smiled.
“Thanks guys. But I’ll also prove that I won’t get lost.” Prince Atam stated with confidence.
“Sure,” Mix replied slowly as he hopped off of Yoshi’s shoulder and started to walk.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” the prince asked with his voice raising.
Mix ignored him as he passed him with sangfroid. This was starting to bother the prince as the small bird smirked while walking ahead.
“Answer me!” Prince Atam snapped.
Mix then turned around, facing the much taller prince with no concern.
“Arguing here is pretty pointless.” Mix stated coolly. “If you want to argue, there’s Yoshi.”
Yoshi rolled her eyes as she pushed Mix with one of her boots. The small bird fell to the ground as Prince Atam snickered. He took out his tongue as he started to walk again.
“Great, I’m dirty.” Mix told himself as he got up.
“Should have kept your mouth shut.” Yoshi answered.
“Little help?”
Janet then stopped as she took a glance back to see her little friend and immediately came to his aid.
“Aw! Poor little Mix but, a deal is a deal. I can’t carry ya until the end!” Janet reminded him.
“Wha…?”
“You think you got me there, didn’t you? Silly thing! Now get up and moving!”
Women…Mix spoke in his thoughts.
~*~*~*~
“How much further Thomas?” Mix questioned with exhaustion. He was all the way in the back of everyone as they all heard his dim voice and walked over to him.
“Mix, that was just three miles.” Thomas answered.
“WHAT?!” Mix exclaimed. “You’re kidding, right? I‘ll die like this!”
“What’s the matter Mix? Don’t like walking?” Prince Atam teased. “Guess you’re not strong enough to make it.”
“I’ll show you!” Mix yelled as his eyes started to turn yellow.
“Bring it on bird!“ Prince Atam called as he moved his fingers towards himself with sangfroid.
Yoshi ran in between of Mix and Prince Atam, blocking them as much as possible. She glared at the two. No one moved from their original spot. The teenage girl simply sighed with wrath but then, trying to control her anger, she put her hands down next to her body.
“Cut it out.” Yoshi told them with patience and her tone becoming more exasperate as the duration of the minute went by with pace. “Thomas and Janet were generous enough to let us come along and you both start to fight? Get serious.”
The two stayed silent while Thomas and Janet were astonished by Yoshi. She then turned around, with her black hair flipping by the soothing wind of the forest. The adolescent continued to walk away from her companions as she soon disappeared with the colors. Thomas and Janet exchanged puzzled faces with each other, then to Mix and Prince Atam.
“What’s going on with Yoshi?” Janet whispered to Thomas.
“I don’t know. It must be that she’s moody today.” he answered.
“Might be because she had an interruption,” Mix said while glancing at Prince Atam.
“Alright Mix, that’s enough for one day!” Janet scolded at the tiny bird.
“Sorry.”
Yoshi felt like she couldn’t think any longer. Her head was filled with headaches from stress. She then remembered again the incident, that very moment in which, in return, changed her life forever. Her eyes were covered by her hands with sadness and concern. Yoshi couldn’t help but instantly sit down on the firm soil ground.
She then wondered to herself what was going on with her. Too much has happened in a manner of days, no, a few years. Her mother died on the day on the genocide as she clearly remembered. The hands of the unease teenager were out of her face as she dropped sparkles of tears across her cheeks, down to her chin, and finally falling onto the dark earth. Yoshi saw the tear dry and absorb itself into the ground as it made it juicy.
The memory of her mother dying struck her heart with damage with such deliberation onto her soul. The flames of the violent fire burning everything in its path, the cries and screams from those who suffered, and the grin of malicious laughing above the smoke. Yoshi remembered the final words that her mother has told her: “We’ll always be together…no matter what happens,”. She closed her eyes tightly as more tears came from her brown eyes.
“Mom…” she spoke as she wept for the loss more.
~*~*~*~
“Yoshi sure is taking long.” Janet said as she stood there with worry.
The others agreed. She has been quiet today that it’s too uncertain that Yoshi became this way. Thomas wondered why is Yoshi like this today. Mix answered that it was probably from her bad mood or from the interruption Prince Atam caused in the morning. He ignored the small annoying Mix and looked ahead with wonder. The prince thought to himself why would she be angry. He tried to think of any reason why but didn’t get anything out.
Janet thought about the situation as well. Her mind was racing with an answer, but soon led to another question. She knew that her friend couldn’t express herself well with words so her actions are more meaningful. The romantic simply couldn’t cognate of has become of her friend.
Maybe it’s because of-, Janet started in her mind until it just hit her. She immediately looked onto her companions. “I’ll be back!” the teenager called as she ran deeper into the forest.
“Janet, just where do you think you’re going?!” Thomas shouted by placing his hands around his mouth. “Janet!”
She was long gone as only the wind started to head northeast and left the three standing.
“Come on, we’re going to follow Janet.” Thomas claimed.
“How? We don’t even know which direction she took.” Prince Atam answered.
“We’ll figure something out.” Mix added.
~*~*~*~
The yellow orange leaves broke as a foot steeped over them with such power. The wind of high sound moved wildly across the trees as a fast vibration moved quicker. The seconds felt like they were passing like years, as the sound of water came close. A cry came from not too far from where she stood. Her eyes were filled with agony as she continued to search. Janet stopped and paced herself as she closed her eyes. Her ears caught the sound of sadness as she followed, without warning. Running like the fast wind came to an end where she faced her friend from a short distance away.
“Yoshi?” Janet asked as she approached her friend at last. “What’s the ma-”
“It’s nothing,” Yoshi answered as she stared at the ground.
“You had us all worried there, Yoshi. We waited for a hour for you to return but you never came. I came to see if you’re okay which I see you’re not at all.”
Yoshi couldn’t say a word to her friend. Janet stepped closer to her hurtful friend and sat next to her, against the strong bark of a tree.
“It’s all right,” Janet comforted, “We all don’t get why you’re like this today.”
Yoshi raised her body as she stood taller. Her friend stared with wonder as Yoshi walked over where only her back faced Janet.
“Yoshi? Just tell me what’s on your-”
“The genocide,” Yoshi interrupted.
Janet was perplexed by the word genocide. Yoshi continued.
“It’s been three years ever since that day…”
Janet then felt a stroke of guilt coming her way. Her emerald eyes looked down with regret. She soon remembered something from a few years ago that she has been told. Yoshi has mentioned it once, three years ago. Janet reminded herself that it was the place where Yoshi lost her mother. Janet’s eyes were then filled with tears.
“I’m sorry.” she sobbed as the tears fell from her mint eyes. Yoshi then turned around to watch her friend cry. She went over to her and sat again. “I didn’t know but I just remembered.”
“No, I should be sorry for worrying all of you.” Yoshi apologized. “I was being so selfish.”
“No Yoshi,” Janet sobbed more. “You have the right to be that way. Who wouldn’t be?”
“I lost her on that day. She, she didn’t even deserve to die like that!” Yoshi sobbed as many tears fell. “I couldn’t do anything about it. She was gone forever.”
“It’s okay, Yoshi. You have me to talk to.” Janet spoke with calmness.
“Sure,” Yoshi answered. “I just don’t know what to do about her death…”
“Yoshi, what’s happened, happened. For now, you can remember everything about your mother and keep it all to yourself.” Janet said. “Come on, your mother wouldn’t want to see you like this. She would want you to be happy so please, smile for her. Smile for us too. And always remember that we‘ll all there.”
Yoshi felt a few tears flowing down her face and smiled. Janet then hugged her friend as Yoshi felt the warmth of friendship fill her up.
“Thanks, Janet.”
“Just remember that I’m your friend and you shouldn’t go through this alone!”
“Yeah, why go through the suffering when you have us to cheer you up?”
“Huh???”
Yoshi and Janet looked ahead to see their male companions join them. Thomas smiled with relief.
“It’s a good thing we found you both here not the river.” Thomas stated.
“Thomas!” Janet cried as she ran to him with open arms. He caught her by surprise as Mix, Yoshi, and Prince Atam were stupefied by such an action.
“It’s alright Janet, don’t you cry anymore!” Thomas comforted as he wiped her tears away.
Yoshi smiled with ease at the two while Prince Atam looked to the ground.
“Are you feeling okay Yoshi?” Prince Atam asked.
“I’m fine.”
“I’m sorry over your mother.”
“Thank you.” Yoshi answered as she stared at the ground.
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
Yoshi nodded as she continued to stare at Janet and Thomas, embracing each other with such emotion. Mix hopped on her shoulder and cuddled by Yoshi’s face. She smiled at her small, feathered friend. Prince Atam rolled his eyes with annoyance.
“Too much love.”
Yoshi’s eyes narrowed. “And what’s wrong with that?”
“It’s just annoying!”
“That’s because you don’t know anything about romance!” Janet and Thomas smirked.
“What are you two, an item?!” Prince Atam snapped.
“Then what are you and Yoshi?” Mix questioned with a big grin on his face.
Yoshi’s eyes became furious as she grabbed the bird and threw him to the ground violently.
OOF!
Prince Atam laughed as Yoshi walked over to her friend, stopped for a second, making him confused. She finally gave him a smack on his shoulder.
“Ow!”
“That’s for your ignorance.” Yoshi muttered.
~*~*~*~
“Would you look at that!” Janet called as she stopped.
“Hm?” Prince Atam looked up in surprise to catch a glimpse of his friends. “Wait up!”
Atam ran over to where his friends stood with awe.
“What is-”
“Shh!”
He stared in the open space where his eyes widened with excitement.
“Wow!” Prince Atam told with amazement.
“Cool!” Mix added.
The five stood in front of the Kanova River, a rushing light-green river that appeared to be wide. The water made a silent noise as it flowed alongside the huge, gray boulders. Large amounts of fish swam inside the river that everyone got to see them clearly. Janet and Thomas made a pleasant expression towards the soothing sight.
“Isn’t it something?” Janet asked as everyone nodded while staring at the river.
“You might not see it but this river is very fast,” Thomas described as he pointed.
“You won’t want to trip and fall in but it‘s still possible to get through by stepping on the rocks,” Janet spoke.
“But there’s also a legend about this river.” Thomas said as his friends faced him at last. “In ancient times, people have worshiped two gods at this very spot. Nobody knows what their names were except that they were birds with occult powers.”
“They were believed to be the most powerful animals to have ever lived. These birds had the power to control many things in not just our world but other dimensions too. They’re so mysterious that people can see their tails every 250 years that pass. They say it takes a less amount of light years for them to travel since they’re superior.” Janet continued.
“Wow, that’s awesome. I bet they can beat Mix in an instant.” Prince Atam scoffed.
“Yeah, sure.” Mix answered with sarcasm.
“That is amazing though but I think I maybe heard it before,” Yoshi spoke.
“Huh?” Janet and Thomas questioned in accord.
“My mother used to tell me that story when I was a kid but I had no idea it was a legend.”
“I guess she knew a lot.” Thomas told his friend.
“Yeah, she did…” Yoshi stated as she looked away. She was caught staring at the pacing clouds that passed over the blue sky. “I’ll be back in a little while.”
“Hey Yoshi! Get back here!” Prince Atam shouted. “I’m coming too!”
~*~*~*~
Large amounts of plants were placed next to Kanova River. White roses, tulips, lilies, daisies, and all different species of flowers sat next to each other. Yoshi and her friends stood in front of the flowers, closed their eyes, and started to pray.
The wind that was once noisy ended up cooling down, as a result, becoming serene. The flowers all started to raise with such movements then moved across the air. The clouds flew by peacefully as the sun began to appear from the white clouds, shining on everyone, then heating up their faces. The plants moved to Kanova River and landed with ease, making silent splashes.
“Rest in peace.”
“Please, rest in peace Mother.” Yoshi finished as she threw a white rose into the water. It landed on the water, making a reflection of more water coming with coolness. It then moved away with speed and disappeared.
Her friends surrounded Yoshi and hugged her tight as tears fell once again from Yoshi’s eyes and landed on the river, washing them away.

Light this candle for me now…
Don’t you realize we’re apart…?
Soon enough, we’ll create this love…
Your voice just wants to make me sing,
Don’t you see what you’re doing?
That your strike will kill me now…
Just don’t let it take over you.
Get this right and hear me now…
For your love that makes me strong.
Don’t do this, I plead thee.
I love the way you are,
Don’t you dare change for this.
So give me this love to make me free…
Well, I'm hoping you all liked this chapter. I had several changes with this chapter. ^^;;; So, that's one of the primary reasons why I took so long. ^^; School was another issue with numerous ocassions coming at me as well. Writing...no, typing (yes typing XD) was kind of difficult since I couldn't think straight due to school and stress lately but I'm getting better! ^__^ Anyway, I thought it was funny when Janet make Mix walk since he was fat! XD Although, their walk will continue throughout the next chapter so don't get too confused. ^^;
As for the poem at the end, it was made by me. I call it a song better but you can all call it a poem though it remains nameless for now since I haven't though of a title for it. IMO, I thought the poem added well to the plot which will be significant more towards the end of the story. >=)
I also made Janet and Yoshi's friendship improve on this chapter as you all may have noticed. Janet's too cute. XD If you are going to ask about Janet X Thomas, yes, it's canon.
*hears cheers and aws*
They got together on their own journeys which I plan on explaining close to Valentine's Day but as a special one-shot.

This kind of explains why everyone was so startled to see them like that. XD They had no idea. XD
As for the next chapter, well, we can just say that the gang are going to meet a new character, Suki! You'll all see what I have planned for this new chapter!
Questions? Comments? Requests? Criticism? I accept all!
Until then,
MM89
PS: Thank you all for reading! ^_^
