The Ark
[This RPG is a joint project with Yorei.]
The stars must look down on Indra Sphere and burn with envy, an entrancing planet enveloped in Life itself: Water. The Vajra Rings, circular traces of pure light that dance around Indra Sphere, perpetuate its movement across the Universe. At the same pace as them do the white clouds waltz across the sky, raining down life as the Sun evaporates it into the air once more. And within the ocean live all the children of the Mother Goddess Selece.
However, drops of imperfection sprinkle the entire surface of the planet here and there. They are called Islands, the embodiment of Earth. In Water, the children of Selece live in peace, surrounded by the very essence of light every day of their lives. However the creatures of Earth, a foreign element on this world, are imperfect. They breathe impure Air of the surface, they develop, they fight over each other and their hearts are filled with poisons unknown to the inhabitants of the ocean. Selece does not approve of these shards of sin, corrupting her children’s home.
Nature has turned against Humans, and all other creatures that walk on land.
Nowadays, few relatively large pieces of land are left. Mostly islets, but also some rather large islands remain, scattered across the cobalt face of Indra, and connected to each other through messenger vessels.
Vessels, boats, are the core of the human effort to survive. With their unusual cunning, humans have become capable of creating ships to travel across the ocean, delivering provisions, messages and passengers. However, even boats are in constant peril, for the inhabitants of the ocean lash out against these intruders and attack them.
Humans recognize that this cannot last forever. They need to turn the tides on Nature, even if it means radically changing their planet forever. Thus the Arks were created, unusually gigantic ships. You are part of the crew of such an Ark.
But, in reality, none of this matters to you.
You were born on the Ark, but not from a mother (FYI, that means no belly buttons). You grew up on the Ark, but not under the care of a father (What man would care for a navel-less abomination such as you?). You were born from an ancient seal marked on the entire surface of the colossal ship you inhabit, and appeared years ago as an infant (Speaking of ancient sigils, everyone has a unique sigil where their belly button SHOULD be.). So did every other boy and girl on the ship.
You see, the mission of an Ark is rather…complicated. The ideal is that an Ark, with its crew, must fend off against all of Selece´s children, along with all the other dangers of the sea, and finally reach Cor Hydra, the northernmost peak of the planet. If they do, they can summon the power of Mother Gaea, the mother of all Earth Children, put to sleep by Selece eons ago. With her, the sea levels will drop, and half the world will be water while the other half shall be land.
However, this would have been impossible with an adult crew departing from an island on the equator of the world, as they would have all died long before reaching their destination. Thus, after much deliberation, the world’s most powerful sages created a Birth Seal, which covered the entire ship. It was sailed across the world, from island to island, until it finally reached a reasonable distance from Cor Hydra, from where there was no more land. And then the Birth Seal activated, bringing back the spirits of children who died before they were born. You are one of those children. You are an Unborn. You were taken care of until you reached reasonable age, you were trained in the art of battle, and then you were stocked with food and supplies to be sent toward Cor Hydra along with your many other mates. Not a single grown adult in presence, you have been left to govern yourselves alone.
And now your life has been directed to Cor Hydra, your final destination.
Oannes
There is something else, a rather important detail about the Unborn. Because you were not physically born from a human mother, but definitely not from an inhabitant of the sea, you are not either a child of Gaia or Selece. You are trapped between the two sides, and while you are still a human, you are not bound to either family. Thus the Oannes can interact with you. Oannes are ancient entities. They vary greatly in shape, size, personality and abilities, and each of them is tied to one certain thing—may it be a tree, a photograph, or a tiny ruby—and they are only in ethereal form. Thus, they can do nothing by themselves. But if an Oanne decides to bond with an Unborn, their wandering spirits are tied, and as that bond becomes stronger both begin to complement each other. The Oanne is able to partially materialize, and aid its Unborn in battle, giving him or her abilities beyond any human’s. Thus, all of the Unborn were made sure to know that they must bond with an Oanne to become stronger, and they all bonded with one before boarding the Ark. Ultimately, the wandering spirits seem to be more than just confused deities, but…
Sign-Ups
You are one of the Unborn. In order to fend off enemies, you were trained to handle some kind of weapon or natural skill, which will grow in strength when used in unison with an Oanne´s power. Furthermore, the Oanne itself will become capable of attacking as your bond becomes stronger.
To preserve order within the Ark, officials were assigned before the trip begun. There are three Captains, who ultimately make the biggest decisions. The rest of the population is composed of Crew Members, who are obviously just as important as an official in order to keep your Ark from sinking. You may come in contact with other Arks as you travel.
The Captain thing goes by the system of first come, first serve. There are three (well, one) Captain Positions left.
NOTE: Because these positions are important to the survival of the RPG, I will only let people who are visibly good at RPGing, and who I KNOW will be active and want to be part of this not just because they’re bored out of their minds or want to kick ***. Because of this, if you’re applying for the position of Captain, for example, I might tell you that you’re not accepted, but your sign-up is fine if you wanna be a crew member.
On the same note. Sign-ups that are rejected twice as Captains can still sign up as Crew Members, but sign-ups that are rejected twice as Crew Members are out for good.
Captain Positions:
1. [Lithi] Captain Jack Jacob Hob and Goodfellow
2. [Yorei] Axiom and Armisael
3. [MerkelHog] Zacharias "Feral Fang" and Alteria
Crew:
1. [Dex] Deion and Oryana
2. [Kyuubi] Maverick and Fyura
Although there is currently no limit for the number of Crew Members, there most probably will be (Especially since LSUs aren’t feasible in this RPG), so better hurry.
Name: Some of the Unborn were given last names, some weren’t.
Gender: You’re not THAT young.
Age: The minimum for this RPG is 11, while the maximum is 17. In reality, all Unborn are truly 11 as it has been a year since the Ark set sail, but the age of an Unborn´s soul makes its body and mind grow at a particular rate.
Rank: If you wanna be a Capitain, it looks like there is one available slot, all the rest fill that vague occupation of "Crew"
Physical Description: How your character looks. Unborn present very different traits, and some have eye and hair colors not found among normal humans.
Personality: Your character’s personality is, obviously, very important in an RPG.
Weapon: The type of weapon that you wield. PLEASE have variety. If three people already have swords, try and get something else, and let your imagination run wild: don’t restrict yourself to the usual medieval arms. Also, magic-oriented characters are more than welcome. This section should include the actual weapon that you’re currently wielding, which should be nothing special. And, finally, sure, use a gun. But there is no ammunition. Anywhere.
Oanne: Your Oanne—its name, description, personality and general element or object it was tied to. Currently you don’t have enough power to perform very strong moves with your Oanne, and it can only materialize in a transparent form, but it can certainly help you.
Latent Power: Your Oanne is oriented toward a certain force, and your power will develop mainly around this force. State it here. It can be any kind of force, from temperature to gravity to viruses to stealth. Make it broad, but not too broad.
