from the leaks, Battle Bond keeps being an ability unique to Greninja, in fact there's 2 Greninjas in the game, one with the normal abilities and one with battle bond alone.

Ehh its kinda in the same boat as Dragon Ascent Rayquaza. It can’t mega evolve despite having the move, same thing will probably happen to Greninja.
Won’t be surprised if the stat boosts get nerfed as well

the form is not there (at least in the base game) so obviously it's just normal Greninja, the interesting part is that they still let people know in the very same game that IT EXISTS so idk, maybe it's just a reference or maybe we will get something in DLC

I've seen that the rest of the Lycanroc forms might be in the game, which means only one conclusion: They've merely renamed it to disassociate it from the anime more. Why? Who knows? Probably because the anime is something no one is going to want to touch after JN. /s

I don't think it would change the narrative that much. Greninja is still special without the transformation, it still gets the stats boost, and it would have attracted some attention even if it didn't look exactly like Ash. And Ash and Greninja would still have to master Bond Phenomenon, so we wouldn't lose the Snowbelle depression arc or the interest that he could attract from having a special Greninja.

So...if I understand what they're doing, it actually makes sense to get rid of the Ash-Greninja form for two reasons.
From a surface level (and without having seen the actual game's code), this looks like they're changing the way that Battle Bond is implemented. The original Battle Bond implementation probably relied on a lot of the same code that Mega Evolution used since the forms functioned very similarly to each other. Ash-Greninja is basically Mega Evolution with a different triggering mechanism.
The code that they would have needed to bring the Ash-Greninja form into the game is gone. Megas are no longer in the mainline game, so the code they would need to make AG work would have to be rewritten or copied back into the game. And that means changes to the underlying engine to support Ash-Greninja. That's a lot of dev and QA effort to modify the game engine to bring back one Pokemon form requires some effort to get. (It wouldn't just benefit Greninja...Rayquaza would also be able to use Dragon Ascent to Mega Evolve. And it would be easier to bring Mega Evolution for other Pokemon back in the future...)
Removing Ash-Greninja also reduces the number of assets that they need to maintain. Ash-Greninja has a different model, different skins, and different move animations compared to regular Greninja. All of these would need to be updated, tested and tweaked. That's more manhours and time that would have to be taken away from other things.
I'm guessing they're changing Battle Bond to act like other abilities and moves that boost stats when they're triggered. If that's the case, then they're able to use existing code in the game that already does the same thing. Its easier to implement and maintain, and they don't have to maintain extra visual assets. Maybe it will come back in the future if/when they ever bring Mega Evolution back.
Does it suck for us? Yes...but I can understand why the decision was made. And I can understand why they retconned it in the anime.

Yeah that in-game painting in my eyes still solidifies they aren't doing away with the concept of the Ash-Greninja form. They just removed it for this game coz they removed Megas in general, but it's still part of the lore and hasn't been retconned

Not that much. Talonflame is still very weak to rock types, specially with Stealth Rocks still being so prevalent. Sturdy is still a thing and present on... Rock types.
Lycanroc with Accel Rock was a good counter while Tsarena's and Bruxish's abilities were clearly counters for it.
Feels more like they had no time to properly balance the game so went for the cheap "let's nerf it"
