The Conquest of Johto

I'm getting jealous of all of these fanfics, so I've decided to make one myself. It will be based around the forgotten region, Johto. It loosely revolves around the main plot of the GSC games, although it will have many twists and turns along the way...

Prologue

Beep. Beep beep. Beep beep.

Damian woke to his alarm clock. Wondering what was going on, he moaned in annoyance when he found out what it was. He lazily moved his arm towards his alarm clock, and slammed his hand down on the ‘Alarm Off’ button. Damian then groaned – he had forgotten to turn off his alarm this morning, as it was the Easter holidays.

Great start to the holidays, he thought.

Damian turned his head and saw a bright ray of sunlight was coming through the middle of his pair of curtains. It was a nice day – Damian decided he might as well get up now, so he could have more time playing out. Then he thought that his friends might still be sleeping, but Damian didn’t care.

Throwing his bedclothes across the room, he pushed himself up and out of his single bed. He slowly walked over to his wardrobe and opened it. Since most of his clothes were currently hanging on the washing line in his garden, he was hardly spoilt for choice on what to wear, but he settled with his ‘casual’ outfit; a dark blue t-shirt, and a pair of dark blue jeans. He picked up any old pair of boxers and socks, and removed his grey pyjama top and bottom, then dressed into his attire.

He slowly walked over to the curtains, and drew them wide open. He winced slightly at the immediate sunlight, as it was quite bright for only 8 o clock in the morning. As expected, outside was very empty. Hooking the curtains onto the curtain holders, he proceeded to go to the bathroom to clean his teeth. Once done, Damian exited the bathroom and decided he needed a drink. Heading downstairs, he heard that the TV was already switched on. He figured his mother was trying to catch an early program, or something.

Entering the kitchen, he took two glasses out of the cupboard and lay then on the kitchen surface. He then called through to the living room ‘Hey mum, you want a drink?’

No response. ‘Mum?’ he asked again. With another lack of response, he went to check if she was actually listening. ‘Deaf old woman,’ Damian muttered to himself.

Indeed, in the living room, his mother was watching the news.

‘Mum, do you want a…’ Damian asked again, but his mother raised her hand and pointed her other hand at the TV. Damian walked over so that he could see what she was watching. It was a news report, in which currently a tall male wearing a black suit was standing at the gates of the ever-famous Indigo Plateau…

‘…trying to gain access to Dominic inside,’ is what Damian picked up ‘oh wait,’ the man continued ‘we’ve just been informed that Dominic is attempting to interrupt our service to tell us his demands of…’

The screen then went fuzzy, and when it finally came back in it showed video footage of a man with a square patch of hair covering his head. With the camera zoomed in on his face, he began to speak:

‘This is Dominic Cronaw. As you all know, I have taken control of the Indigo Plateau. Resistance is futile. However, you have a chance to save yourselves from impending doom. I will allow one person to make a stand. That person must obtain the normal eight league badges, starting from now, and they must be willing to risk the lives of many people in Johto and Kanto to do so…’

‘Who is this guy?’ Damian asked his mother.

‘I don’t know,’ she replied ‘all I know is he has obtained access to the Indigo Plateau and is making it his headquarters for his grand plans. He has the place under total security and his men are out causing major trouble,’

‘Could that mean we could be attacked?’ Damian asked.

‘Well, it is a pretty high risk,’ his mother responded.

Damian turned to the TV to see Dominic was still blabbering on.

‘Hey, no evil organisation is going to stop me playing outside! I’ve made plans for today, and I’m not about to sit in here all day!’

His mother has never really had a good relationship with her son, so she merely responded ‘There you go again, wasting your life. Well, don’t say I didn’t warn you when you get attacked,’

Damian ignored her remark and headed out the front door. But little did he know that this would take him on a very perilous journey…one that would put his life, and the lives of others, in great danger…

I will wait for a few reviews before writing more.

Ah, you will find out in due time.

I have a Chapter 1 so I might as well post it...

Chapter 1 - Perils in New Bark Town

The sun was beating down on New Bark Town. The Johto region was often known for its constant sunlight, but rarely did it see such glorious days as this. Damian, whilst appreciating the nice weather, would always find something to complain about, and so he was thinking about how annoying it was that his t-shirt absorbed too much heat. He was practically boiling from head to toe.

Speaking of his toes, Damian had not even bothered to put on any shoes as he walked out of the door. Thinking that it was likely no one would come outside anyway, Damian didn't want his feet sweating in his ridiculously enclosed shoes. Plus, his shoes were falling apart anyway, and he needed new ones, only he hadn't bothered getting any at this moment in time.

Damian continued walking down the rather empty street until he reached a house at the end that looked very similar to his own. He walked up the front pathway and knocked on the door three times.

After about twenty seconds of waiting, he knocked again three times. Waiting for another twenty seconds, Damian came to the conclusion that his mate Peter and his family were still asleep. He was about to knock again but then, all of a sudden, he heard a faint 'SMASH' in the distance. Damian jumped up, startled, and turned to see the smash came from the other end of the street. He decided to ignore it, and knocked again for Peter.

But Damian knew that Peter wouldn't answer anyway. He heard numerous faint screams from where the smash had come from, so he decided to check it out, as it was in the direction of his friend Jamie's house anyway.

Walking at a slightly faster pace than before, the heat got to Damian quickly nonetheless. He fiddled through his pockets to find something to wipe his head with, but merely found his house key and a few coins, so he just wiped his head with his arm. Turning down the path leading to Jamie's house, Damian tried to keep in the shade to stay cool. I should've brought a hat, Damian moaned to himself, but couldn't be bothered to turn back.

As he entered Jamie's part of the street, he heard a few more screams. They were coming from one of the houses down this part of New Bark Town. Damian stood still to see if he could hear where the screams were coming from.

He looked around. His surroundings consisted of mainly a few houses, and a path that led out of the town. But a way to his right was a massive building - this was the labratory of Prof. Elm, a well known professor in the studies of Pokemon, alongside Prof. Oak and Prof. Birch. He was nearly always cooped up in his lab in the past, but, following a tip from Prof. Birch, Elm decided to study Pokemon in the outside environment as well. Most of all, Prof. Elm was Jamie's father, much to the annoyance of Jamie, who got a lot of pressure put on him about things relating to his father.

Another scream. Damian turned to where it came from and his eyes lay on Jamie's house. Damian's heart suddenly skipped a beat - Jamie could be in trouble. Remembering the news report earlier, Damian looked at the side of the house to find a smashed window, confirming that whatever was happening in that house wasn't good news.

Damian ran up to Jamie's front door. This row of houses was different from Damian's as the front doors were much closer to the path. This door didn't have a window to look through, which angered Damian, and he could see nothing through the windows on the side of the house. But something was definately happening in there, he heard a gruff voice and a female voice. Another voice Damian could also place was Jamie's. Damian turned the doorknob of the front door and, suprisingly, the door opened.

However as he walked in he heard numerous loud footsteps coming down the stairs, and soon a female was pushed into view. Damian recognised her by her blue skirt as Jamie's mother, Steph, but then a thug came after her and pushed her against a wall. Steph was screaming, but the thug kept repeatedly shouting 'shut up!' as he grabbed her by the back of the neck and pressed her into the wall.

Damian then heard more footsteps coming down the stairs, and then suddenly a red clothed figure jumped into view holding a baseball bat. It was Jamie. He swung the bat at the thug, but the thug grabbed hold of it, grabbed it off him and smashed Jamie with it. Jamie flew backwards down to the bottom floor, landing against the corner of the room.

'Little *******' the thug shouted, before noticing Damian. Damian attempted to flee, but the thug pointed the baseball bat at him and said 'You! Get over to that corner if you know what's good for ya!'

Damian had to agree. He slowly backed into the corner where Jamie lay, seemingly unconcious. Damian crouched down, and the thug continued to point his bat at him as he pressed Steph into the wall with the other hand.

'Where's Elm?' he demanded, over the woman's screams. 'Where is he!?'

'Please!' Steph pleaded 'Don't do this...aagh!' she cried as she was pressed against the wall.

'Just tell me where he is!'

Damian shook Jamie's body and was relieved to see Jamie opening his eyes. He started to get up but then the thug screamed 'What the hell do you think you're doing, punk?' and Jamie crouched back down.

'What the hell is this?' Damian whispered to Jamie.

'I don't know,' Jamie whispered back 'all I know is they want my dad. I hate this,'

'What can we do?' Damian asked.

'Well...' Jamie thought, then suddenly realised something 'that's it! Dad kept a few Pokeballs hidden under a floorboard here in case of emergency,'

'Where is it?' Damian asked.

'Right there,' Jamie pointed, and he revealed there was a slightly out-of-place floorboard.

The thug continued to pressure Steph, even resorting to violence, so Damian hurriedly told Jamie 'I'll get one, you'll probably break something moving after that hit,'

And with that, Damian quickly dived for the floorboard. As he pulled the floorboard away, the thug suddenly noticed and cried 'You little ****!' before throwing Steph to the floor and diving for Damian. Damian quickly got his hand on two Pokeballs, but accidentally dropped one and so only ended up throwing one in front of him. Out of the Pokeball burst a small, grey elephant like Pokemon, into which the thug crashed.

Reeling, the thug cried 'You son of a *****!' as he held his face in agony. It was at this point that Damian realised he had no clue as to how to handle Pokemon, but he was saved when Jamie cried from the corner 'Phanpy, Tackle attack!'

The small elephant Pokemon then charged at the thug, knocking him backwards and he smashed against the wall, then sunk to the floor, unconcious.

Damian, Jamie, and Steph were all in shock.

'So much for a day out,' Damien moaned.

***

Damian was now sitting on a cold bench inside the New Bark Police Station, head in his hands. He had just experienced a frightening scenario in which he could have died. When the police came, Damian refused to say anything, just listened to their orders and came along to accompany Jamie and his mother. Damian heard a few muffles behind the door to his right; an interview with Jamie and his mother was just taking place. He considered leaving right now, but he would be tracked down most likely.

Suddenly Damian heard rushing footsteps, took his head out of his hands and looked towards their direction. It was a manic Professor Elm, with a few papers in his right hand and wearing a very scruffy white shirt. Elm ran up to Damian and shook him furiously 'Damian! Where's my wife and son?'

'They're being interviewed in there,' Damian told him, pointing at the big, metal door in which the interview was taking place behind.

Elm rushed to the door but before he could reach it, it opened. Jamie and Steph walked out and Steph burst into Elm's arms tearfully. The three had a family reunion as Damian looked on. Sometimes I wish my own mother would care for me that much, he thought sadly.

A guard then walked out of the interview room, and told the family 'Well, you're in luck, the suspect just admitted everything that he'd done,' to the family's delight. Then, turning to Damian, the guard said 'guess that means there's no need to interview you, so you can go on home now,'

'Home?' Elm exclaimed 'Our homes obviously aren't safe, not with that guy running around!'

'But he's going to be jailed, right?' Jamie asked.

'Yes, of course,' the guard replied 'however as you may have heard, the evil Dominic Cronaw has control of the Indigo Plateau, and he has many recruits. This suspect even admitted to being one. So, I'm sorry, but you may not be safe for a while as long as these thugs are running around,'

The family's faces dropped slightly.

'But we'll be doing all we can to track down every last one of them,' the guard positively assured them.

'Why not just go after Dominic?' Damian asked, trying to include himself in the conversation.

'That would require a lot of planning, as the Indigo Plateau is basically his fortress now,' the guard told him 'and our government is currently in quite a big crisis. In fact, this was the perfect time for Dominic to strike,'

'Well I'm going to board up our home!' Elm exclaimed 'I'm not going to let something like this happen again!'

Then Elm, Steph, and Jamie proceeded to walk out of the police station. Damian followed, just in time to see the Elm family get in their car, a silver Monyota, and drive away. Damian caught a glimpse of Jamie waving out of the car at him, to which Damian did not respond.

Sitting down on a nearby step, Damian thoughtfully looked into the sky. What kind of a world is this? he thought, no one is safe anymore. The scorching heat, thankfully, was now disappearing as a massive layer of cloud blocked the sun. Instead, Damian felt something land on his neck, and looked up to be greeted with a massive downpour of rain. He sighed and looked at his shoeless feet.

Remembering the news report earlier, he seemed to recall Dominic announcing that he would let the gates open only to one person with eight Pokemon League badges, and that person had to start collecting them from that morning. But why would he do that? Damian questioned himself. He settled for the idea that Dominic had something bigger planned, but he didn't care.

Rising to his feet in the pouring rain, he felt something in his pocket and pulled it out to reveal that it was the Pokeball that he had used earlier. Realising that he taken it accidentally and had to give it back, Damian proceeded to walk back to Jamie's house, before realising something. Why can't I attempt to sort out this nation-wide problem? After all, I have as much chance as anyone in succeeding. Besides, no one will miss me for a few months.

Then it was settled. Damian would set out on this life-risking journey right here and now!

Standing upright with a new sense of confidence, he threw the Pokeball he was holding to the floor, and out of it burst the small, grey elephant Pokemon that he used earlier. It turned around, and happily looked at Damian.

He announced to the Pokemon 'Okay then...um...' Damian struggled to remember the name of the Pokemon, before it came to him 'Phanpy, would you be willing to come with me on a journey?'

The Phanpy smiled, and charged into Damian, knocking him backwards. Damian looked at it only to realise it was obviously wanting to do somethinge else other than sit under the floorboards all day.

'Well, that was easy,' Damian told himself. He rose to his feet, and with a new companion in hand, he stared out into Route 29 'Dominic, you just made a new enemy.'

There's been no responses, but I have a Chapter 2 in the waiting.

Chapter 2 - A Beginning to Remember

Out on Route 29, the rain was still heavily beating on the ground after the abrupt change from the intense sunlight earlier. The morning was definately full of life, since a lot had happened and it was only half past nine in the morning. But along the tree infested paths of Route 29, nearly everything was deadly quiet - not silent, but it could've fooled anyone into thinking that it was.

A young Hoothoot flew rather clumsily through the air, having being slow too notice that the sun had risen and that it was time for it and its owl brethren to retire to their respective trees to rest. As the Hoothoot flew into a gathering of trees, flying the opposite way was a group of Pidgey, ready to start their day. Even though it was raining, the Pidgey were not bothered and they circled ahead, looking for food.

About a quarter of the way through the route, Damian was journeying along with his new elephant Pokemon running alongside him. Whilst Damian was moving at a slow pace, the Phanpy was very energetic and ran in circles around Damian now and then. It then spotted a group of Rattata to play with, and started to charge towards them. Of course, the Rattata were slightly shocked at this and fled into a nearby bush. The Phanpy was slightly disappointed but quickly forgot about it and charged back towards Damian and ran around him again.

Geez, does it ever get tired? Damian wondered to himself.

Damian's mind then slipped into a wondering of how exactly he was going to achieve the goal he set out to do. He hardly knew anything about Pokemon, other than the fact that trainers caught them in little balls, like the one Phanpy was held in, and then would use them to battle the Pokemon of other trainers for experience. And this experience would go towards facing the gym leaders, so picked because of their toughness, and were probably some of the toughest trainers around. And upon defeating each leader, the triumphant trainer would earn a badge. And possessing eight badges allowed entry into the Pokemon League.

Thinking of the league, Damian wondered about this Dominic Cronaw character. Why did he have visions of a land conquered by him, and more importantly, why would he allow someone to rise to his challenge? It all seemed strange to Damian. Maybe he could find more info on Dominic later in his travels, and also info on how he can even control or catch Pokemon.

Having been in a subconcious state for a while, Damian was suprised to find that he was more than halfway through Route 29 already. It was then he noticed that Phanpy was missing, but thankfully he heard a noise and turned round to find Phanpy. Only, it was going slower than before and looked less cheerful than before.

Crouching down to make better eye contact with it, Damian asked it 'Hey, what's wrong?'

Phanpy responded by pointing its trunk at its mouth.

It only took a few seconds for Damian to realise that it was hungry. Wow, he thought, having a Pokemon is like having a pet dog - tiresome work!. Then sadly, he told Phanpy 'I'm hungry too, but I don't have any food. I'm sorry,'

The Phanpy looked slightly saddened, but Damian then told it 'When we reach Cherrygrove City, I'll get us both some food,' to which the grey Pokemon smiled at. Damian then got back up and continued through Route 29.

As they carried on with their journey, Damian noticed Phanpy was searching through bushes seemingly for no reason. Interested in the behaviour of his Pokemon, he continued to observe it as he walked. Whilst searching through the bushes, Phanpy accidentally disturbed a nest of small ferret Pokemon, which quickly ran away. Unbeknownst to Damian, these were Sentret. It took a while before Phanpy stopped at a certain bush and continued to pull a branch of it with its trunk, which was curled around it. Eventually, a few berries fell to the ground. Phanpy eagerly picked up the berries with its trunk and popped them in its mouth. Damian realised that some Pokemon must like to eat berries.

Damian continued to walk on, but Phanpy still wanted to obtain a few more berries. 'Come on Phanpy,' Damian told it 'let's keep on going, I'll get you some better food than that,' but the Phanpy would not stop until it got a few more. Scooping more into its trunk, it was about to eat them when suddenly a small bird Pokemon swooped down and took them with its beak! The young elephant Pokemon looked very confused, before looking up and seeing that a Pidgey had stolen its food.

As Damian watched, Phanpy looked like it was about to cry as the Pidgey fled with its berries. But then, the Phanpy vigorously tore off a branch of the bush with its trunk and threw it through the air at the Pidgey. It struck the Pidgey with quite a powerful force, knocking it out of the sky. The Phanpy instantly rushed to get the food that the Pidgey dropped. Damian realised this, and chased after the hungry Pokemon.

'Phanpy, get back here!' Damian shouted at it, but it would not listen. Instead, it kept running until it saw the berries. Delighted, it ran towards them before it stopped suddenly. It had seen something. And so had Damian. And it was not good.

Out of the trees ahead, in response to the attack on their friend, a whole colony of Pidgey appeared, and spotted the injured Pidgey laying on the grass. Damian remained still and prayed that the Pidgey would leave. However, when the Pidgey colony all let out huge cries, Damian thought otherwise.

'RUN!' Damian shouted, and he about turned and sprinted in the other direction, his Pokemon not far behind.

As the Pidgey advanced on the trainer, Damian could only think to run. Then he realised that, in reality, all Pokemon would assist their kind and act like a predator to others. The sophistication of Pokemon is immense, Damian realised, much moreso than most animals.

However he was still going to be pecked to death, so he focused on getting the hell out of there and forgot about everything else. Damian soon realised he had ran unknowingly into a forest. Spotting a few bushes nearby, he dived in one to hide. Peering out of the bushes, he could see that the Pidgey were advancing on him. Damian's heart beat faster at every moment the Pidgey got closer, but then realised that as the Pidgey reached him, they flew past the bushes concealing him and above his head. Damian then breathed a huge sigh of relief as he heard the noise of the colony dying down. Suddenly, he was disturbed as he heard the noise getting louder again, and the Pidgey flew back over his head.

Damian peered out of the bushes and looked at where they were going. Then he had a horrible realisation.

He had forgotten Phanpy!

As if on cue, the small elephant Pokemon ran towards the bush Damian was in, but by then Damian had realised it was too late. The Pidgey all simultaneously dived towards Phanpy, and moved in for the kill. The young Pokemon let out a small scream before the Pidgey swarmed over him. Damian put his hands on his head. He had only just got Phanpy, and now he had gotten it killed! Frustrating over what to do, he decided to risk his own life to save the life of an innocent Pokemon.

But before he could leave the bushes, a massive thunderbolt sped past the bush and struck all of the Pidgey! Damian jumped with suprise, before all the Pidgey fell to the floor and revealed his injured Phanpy. Wasting no time, Damian jumped out of the bushes and ran towards his fallen Pokemon. Picking it up, he cradled it in his arms and saw the expression on its face. It was nearly unconcious, but smiled now that it knew it was safe. Then it closed its eyes.

Damian could not wait any longer. He had to get it to Cherrygrove for healing, and fast!

Then he saw a fast movement. Looking to where the source of the thunderbolt had come from, he was amazed to see an elegant looking beast bounding out of the small forest. It was huge, and its skin was bright yellow. It was indeed a magnificent sight to behold. But before Damian could see anymore, it disappeared into the distance.

Proceeding to run as fast as he could towards Cherrygrove, Damian's mind was being overflowed with today's events. This has been one hell of a morning, he thought, certainly a beginning to remember...
