The Dark Meowth is Alolan Meowth!? (1005)

Or Nanu has trained so well that he sent it in an undercover mission. Of course, all this might actually mean nothing at the end and they put a random intelligent A. Meowth in the episode just for the lolz and to showcase the species.

You mean, Nanu send it on an undercover mission so that gather info/uncover secrets about the villanious organization that is Team Rocket? Not a bad idea, but sounds a bit of a stretch unless they are bringing back Giovanni into SM for a villainous arc, a.k.a. Team Rainbow Rocket.

I'm going with this theory because isn't Nanu secret police also? This all would make so much sense in the end.

There is no way I can believe that Alolan Meowth is stronger than the first Alolan Persian and smarter from being in the wild... but at the same time I could see the writers just going that route if the whole thing doesnt work out lol.

Eh, this Alolan Meowth was quite strong, it's Thunderbolt was quite strong, possibly rivaling Pikachu's and it avoided Pikachu's Quick Attack like nothing.

Meh, I don't know about that. Alolan Meowth was fast, but we didn't really get an indication of its actual strength; its only direct "hit" on Pikachu was flicking his forehead with its claw. Yes, it avoided Pikachu's Quick Attack, but that just means it's faster than Pikachu, not stronger. Its Thunderbolt was flashy and big, but I don't know if that's really an indication of how strong of an attack it is, since it was purposely aiming its Thunderbolt all over the place trying to strike the humans.

Really, Alolan Meowth's biggest asset is its cleverness. It toyed with Meowth and pretty much used Jessie and James. As much as I hate to admit it, it's almost a shame the TRio didn't successfully catch it/add it to their team. Not only would it have given them a Pokémon who could use the Darkium Z, but they could have gone far with such an intelligent Pokémon on their side. But then again, Alolan Meowth is intelligent enough that it probably realized staying with the TRio was not in its best interests, and that's why it booked a ticket to Kanto to join Giovanni at headquarters. :p

I'm currently more inclined to believe in the theory that this Alolan Meowth was sent on an undercover mission by Nanu, for uncovering secrets/gather info about the villainous organization Team Rocket. Which is why it probably went all the way to Giovanni's quarters in Kanto. Maybe the writers are planning to bring Giovanni back into SM for the Team Rainbow Rocket Arc.

Not a bad episode. I admit to feeling bad for Meowth too, he just never caught a break and wasn't even in 'weasel mode' this episode. Whenever TR fall victim to a 'troll Pokemon' unprovoked, you know formula insists TR are doomed to lose anyway (eg. the Sneasel in 'Hail to the Chef' was a similar deal, it tormented Meowth first but TR being TR, Meowth was doomed to be butt monkey the whole episode).

Alolan Meowth was an unlikeable prick that got no comeuppance for it, but did it's role well enough. I'm wondering how it's role will fare in the future, it's not clear if it has some other agenda or just, like a standard cat, found another cosier place to leech off of. I suppose TR should be happy, Giovanni seems to think they gave it to him, so in a way Alolan Meowth offered a rare success.

The TR face-off was surprisingly decent, with TR planning ahead, and the twerps having to be resourceful with their Pokemon to stop them. Loved seeing Togedemaru, Turtonator, Lycanroc and Rowlet all using their abilities to help out. Actually Season Two has offered a small bulk up in TR vs twerp stuff considering Season One's were pretty generic besides the baseball episode. I was disappointed we didn't get to see TR Meowth try to battle though. I also didn't quite get why they stopped in the middle of the wilderness to gloat in this case either, yeah it was formula the previous series, they have a secret base in this one (though I guess it's best the twerps don't find out where it is).

The Ash vs Kaiwe face-off was brief but fun. Loved Marowak and Turtonator expectedly having problems in a team battle.

Darkium Z is brought up again, hopefully now they know what resources they need we'll get some progression again soon.

Liked Wobbuffet being the only TR member to notice something wrong with A Meowth and show some concern for TR Meowth (especially when he falls victim to Mimikyu again). But how did A Meowth get away with smacking MIMIKYU down like that? XD Also was it just me or did Wobbuffet mangle it's name call to say 'NYASSU' when they were searching for Meowth?

Oranguru returns and has a cute friendenemy moment with Meowth. Called TR drowning their sorrows in it's bar.

I didn't like seeing Mimikyu being a rogue again. I thought it started obeying Jessie in SM038? Also, another wtf Bewear moment.

In said episode it only started obeying Jessie when Pikachu wasn't around to rile it up. It actually getting sulky with Jessie when she chastised it for screwing up was funny though.

And yeah, the 'buzz buzz Bewear' gag was hilarious.

First Meowth episode since BW too. <3

Actually Meowth also had a couple in XY as well (the 'tied to Bonnie' episode and the Pokeball factory one with Pikachu). Both were shared with another character, but I'd still them consider them limelight episodes for Meowth.

Life doesn’t end, …it changes.
This episode was unexpectedly good. I love the small details like how Rowlet was watching as the TRio took Pikachu and knew which direction they went as well as him and Lycanroc being the firsts on the scene. Also, Mimikyu helping Pikachu escape the electric proof glass was pretty funny to see. :p

I loved how the classmates got out of the hole. Also, when Meowth ate the Tamata Berry and his lips were inflated, it fondly reminded me of back then (in Hoenn and I think Sinnoh as well) wehre Ash, May, and the others ate it and their lips swelled up. It was so funny lol! Just tasting and seeing the berries again was nice to see. Also, James looked proud as he polished his new collection. I guess he gotta hide his bottlecap collection this saga.

It's too bad that Meowth couldn't get a friend in the Alolan Meowth, his history with his own species is quite terrible. I liked watching Kiawe and Ash train, this was much better than the TRio interrupting the battle and getting blasted off immediately after. Good for the Alolan Meowth to upgrade himself to Giovanni's. HIs snarkiness and non chalent way of handling things were pretty amusing. I'm glad he didn't defeat Pikachu but rather, countered back his Thunderbolt to which Togedemaru had a time to shine (it's about time!) Great appearances by Giovanni and Matori, he complimented them after so long!! :)

So, is it safe to assume that Alola Meowth will show up whenever Giovanni does now?

Like in Gen 8, we'll be like "Remember alola forms?"

Really I felt like this episode was really slow in the beginning. Maybe we could have cut out the dounut scene in the begininng of the episode I would feel like the plot would move much quicker. Really I felt that Meowth was really out of character in this episode because in previous series Meowth would have confronted Jessie and used his Fury Swipes for stealing his ice cream. It felt so weird for him to cry over some ice cream. Also another problem in this episode was that Jessie and James not noticing that their best friend fur is much darker then before and not talking.

While I'm Okay with Ash training with Kaiwe again, but I'm getting tired of see the same thing over and over again. I rather see a battle between Lillie, Lana, Mallow and Sopohles so they can get stronger and do something more then just being on the side lines. Again! How Team Rocket stole Pikachu was okayish, but not their greatest stealing of Pikachu. So there screw up is more of Carma knocking at Jessie for eating the ice cream.

As for Alolan Meowth joining Team Rocket is weird. How did Meowth found their headquarters in a region that he never been in. I think it was way to quick for Alolan Meowth to make that trip even though he had a ticket to Kanto. I rather say that a few days pass then Giovanna give them the call that Alolan Meowth just came to Kanto.

Actually, what an odd series to faze out James' bottle cap affinity for something else. Hoping the Hyper Training currency gets some nod either way.

Gold bottlecaps, James. GOLD!!!

It's too bad that Meowth couldn't get a friend in the Alolan Meowth, his history with his own species is quite terrible.

Ironically the one other Meowth that he shared a sympathetic bond with was the 'evil clone' Meowth that was specifically created to hate him and fight him to the death.

He respected Tyson's Meowth in Boots as well, but like Litten, it wasn't that mutual.

Do you mean the ice cream scene? Given that that scene was the catalyst that set the events of the episode in motion, I don't really see how that could have been cut out. It could have been replaced, but not cut out.

There was a scene that showed Alolan Meowth researching Team Rocket (the organization, as well as individual members) on the computer. Presumably, that's how it learned where the organization is headquartered and how to get there.

I mean the dounut scene with Ash. And I still think Meowth is out of character her

But still doesn't explain how it know it way around Kanto to find the headquarters

Decent episode. I knew what to expect, yet I had much more sympathy for the Rocket-dan's Nyasu than I expected. The Alolan Nyasu being sent to Sakaki shocked me however, yet that was a good ending since it means we might see the Alolan Nyasu again.

It would have to know how to read in order to even understand the files...or perhaps someone escorted it when it got to Kanto and left when within sight range if the building

An ok episode. I like the Alolan Meowth, it's strong and clever, as it manages to outsmart TRio and ends up at Rocket's HQ in Kanto by itself. I would like to see more of its abilities than what's shown in the episode though.

Meowth's abilities actually don't tend to get demonstrated well in the anime, even counting Meowths besides TR's. I think we've only seen one use of Pay Day the entire series.

Even the ones that are battle competent tend to be so through attacks unnatural to it's move set (eg. this one and Tyson's knowing Thunderbolt) or by just spamming Fury Swipes, which is a shame because while Meowths aren't exactly strong in the games, their move set is strategically decent (Technician ability, Fake Out combos, Faint Attack, etc).

I find it odd A Meowth didn't display any Dark type moves in this episode though.

I honestly can't find something to nitpick out of this episode, I was actually amused by it and I've only seen the episode pictures........and yes it did hurt, a lot, to say that :D

But yeah, its VERY rare for me to say an episode of the Pokemon anime is at least somewhat decent, I normally only care for the battling parts and get shut off by the rest of the episodes.

I may actually have to watch the sub, and yes I said sub because I watched the dub on the Brock and Misty reunion episodes and my ears started bleeding (no offense to those of you who like the dub version of the anime, it just hasn't aged well for me and my taste)
