The DS Lite is heading for the states.

May 4, 2006 - Nintendo of America revealed today that it will launch the redesigned Nintendo DS Lite system this June 11th. When it lands on shelves next month, the DS Lite will ship in one color -- Polar White -- and retail for 129.99, the same price as current Nintendo DS systems.

The system's been available in ridiculously short supply in Japan territories since March, and that short supply may have affected when Nintendo of America could appease the stateside audience.

The changes to the Nintendo DS standard with the Nintendo DS Lite include a 20 percent smaller build as well as a smoother and sleeker body shape. The Start and select buttons and the power switch have been shifted around to new locations, and the stylus has been increased in size with a new storage location. Most importantly, though, the DS Lite features newer, brighter LCD screens with four levels of brightness settings.

Nintendo has not revealed if it plans on reducing the price on the existing Nintendo DS systems, or if the DS Lite will fully replace it in retail stores when it ships in June.

I of course have nothing to be excited about (I already own a DS Lite) other than the fact that Navy will now be exclusive to me for the time being over here. XD

That is a very good idea on Nintendo's part. I for one know that I would never buy a DS lite if it cost more then the regular DS. I hope the prices for the original DS go down, to like, I don't know, forty dollars (I know, never gonna' happen'), so I can get one. But once again, a good move on Nintendo's part.

Finally, took em long enough. They should've stopped the orders in Japan - them people are ****ing greedy.

Oh well, hopefully they will release Navy by my Birthday, July 17th...

wow i'm definately getting it and should i wait for a navy blue, is it good? because i'm thinking black or white, but i don't want to wait 6 months for black because it took 8 for blue to come out with the normal DS

Yeah, the Navy is very nice. It's only fault is that it is easier to spot fingerprints on than the other two colors.

>_<

If I had known that the Lite was going to be the same price as the normal one, I would have waited before getting one a few weeks ago.

Hmm...I'm still debating over whether to trade my old DS in for a Lite or not. I mean...there's too much sentimental value there. :<

Yes, I know, I'm a pu$$y. D:

You will be missed:(
I'm quite happy with my original DS. And since I have large hands, smaller devices are harder for me to use.

Nice. Since I don't have a DS yet but plan on getting one in the near future for a select few games, then this is very good news for me.

I wonder if it will come to the UK? Well, I want to get one which will match with my Wii, if they are compatible that is. I also think they look cool. I said how pointless I thought it was when it forst came out, but i want one now.

An interview on Nintendo Europe's UK site with Laurent Fischer

So can you give us a hint when we can expect DS Lite in Europe?
"Certainly this summer."

So that's a vague July-August release, personally I can't wait for a DS Lite.
