The Future of the World Championships

But Lance vs Leon was a 1vs1

Yea but those aren't the final 8 match ups, those are just matches between those ranked in the top 8 at the start of the season. "At the end of each season, the competitors in the Top 8 face off in a final tournament, with the ultimate winner being crowned World Champion". That's when you'd expect full on 6v6s

It makes sense for them to have a full battle for the sheer spectacle of the event. I tolerated Dande versus Wataru being a 1-on-1 battle since it was meant to introduce the concept of the Pokemon World Championship, but I'd be disappointed if that carries over into Satoshi's eventual match with Dande.

No way do you build up a team like they've had Ash build and then end the series on 1 v 1 battles

Kanto is love. Kanto is life.
Top 8 should be all 6 vs 6. Last time we had Top 8 as 6 on 6 was back in BW.
@Pkjoan
He didn't. Mega Gardevoir would've beaten him. Also close to him? Dude, Ash if we talk about all his Pokemon is not even E4 level XD. Only his Pikachu is E4 level as of now( so if you're talking about Ash's Pikachu vs Lance's Pokemon than yes, they would be on Pikachu's level).

It was a single Pokemon match for the sake of convenience and nothing more.

Exactly. If it had been a 6v6 shoved into a singular episode, it'd have been horribly rushed.
Besides they'd need to have come up with full teams for both trainers on the spot as Lance only ever used Dragonite and Red Gyarados, and that'd be quite underwhelming for Lance's part if he doesn't get to fight Ash as we'll likely never see those ones again what with Gyarados being his signature Pokemon

And they probably want the main characters to debut the starter evolutions this time, Leon might own Cinderace(Assuming he still has a Galar starter) due to Ash getting Sobble and possibly Grookey but they probably want to save it for when Raboot evolves

I'd be ok with Master Class battles being 3v3 (and only final being full battle) as long as Ash gets to fight everyone in Top 8.

I think that the more full battles that we see, the better. That would give Satoshi's Pokemon more chances to battle, and might make the reserves more important if Satoshi decides to rotate his team for those battles. 3-on-3 isn't bad, but it feels a bit limited for the higher tiers.

Yeah, not to mention the production schedule could not have handled it. If you had a dozen good animators working on the episode for two months then sure, you could pull of a Full Battle. Episode #6 only had Iwane Masa'aki and he did all of the shots in the episode by himself with no prior BANK animation available for Lizardon or Gyarados used. He was clearly running against the gamut as it was.

They could've just easily skip to the end of the battle, didn't have to show the full battle onscreen. 1v1 felt underwhelming for a World Championship final.

I think the writers could've pulled a 6v6 off by having Ash and Gou getting delayed/distracted by something and only making it see Gyarados and Charizard duke it out. We'd probably feel cheated by missing it though...

The red gyarados is an easy continuity nod as well
