THE GUILDS OF LEGENDS

Chapter 1: The Loss

Claus Town, the Domain of the Guild Manaphus

The train station was bustling with activity, people going to and from wherever they needed to go. In this world…in just this train station there are thousands, billions of stories that could be told. It would take an infinity to tell them all, and so with the time we have, we will focus on the story of one young boy.

Now boarding for Gensi City, Arusia!”

A boy, he looked to be around the age of fourteen, stood with his back to the train. Facing his mother he stared at her with a sad expression. As if all the troubles were her fault. Next to the boy stood a pokemon, a bright cyan colored penguin type, a Pottaishi.

“Sol…Sol, please don’t look at me like that…” The brown haired woman pleaded to her son. “He looks too much like his father…” she thought to herself as she made a move forward towards her child. The boy had dark skin like her, but the dark red hair was definitely from his father. “I know…believe me, I know this looks bad, and I can’t tell you how sorry I am for this…but you know I can’t…not with them…I promise I’ll stop so…”

“Mom…just stop please,” Sol interrupted abruptly. Seeing his mother grovel like that just was too much for him to bear. Picking up his luggage, and making a motion with his head towards the Pottaishi. “Mom…good bye.” He turned around and headed for the train doors, his Pottaishi waddling after him. His mother just stared in his direction, not blinking, breathing slowly. She thought to herself, why did I let it go this far? Why couldn’t I stop this? She put one hand to her eyes trying to stop tears as she wept.

Sol walked up the train aisle and placed his luggage in the overhead compartment. Since it had started to become tight in the train, Sol had returned Sven, his Pottaishi, back to his pokeball. As he took his seat he looked out of the trains windows at his mother, who was still just standing there, with her hands covering her face trying to hold back tears. He thought to himself that this must be hard for her. They both knew, though, that this is probably for the best. His mother’s gambling and loan debts had gotten out of control. Almost every single economic guild was after her. The only solution she saw was to send her son to his father that he barely knew.

The train finally started its gradual departure from the station, its engines starting a crescendo of sound. Sol looked one last time at his mother, standing out there in the station along with hundreds of other random people. She was staring straight at him, her face stained with tears. It was too painful, he had to turn away.

Time seemed to slowly slip away for Sol, all the emotion of leaving his mother seemed to blot out everything and everyone in the train but himself. He felt so incredibly alone, especially with Sven put away.

“Oh, hey is this seat taken?”

Sol woke up, his head turning quickly away from the window he was leaning on. “Hmwhaa…?” he answered in a half-asleep tone.

“Oh my god, sorry I didn’t think you were sleeping!” It was a girl about Sol’s age with dark violet hair, and a baby Bonsly cuddled in her arms. She started fiddling with a red necklace she wore, probably because she was nervous from waking a complete stranger.

“Uhh, wait its okay…you can sit if you want I guess…” Sol answered, his mind slowly becoming aware of his surroundings again.

“Thanks…I had to move ‘cause some little brat wanted to have a seat for his Pikachu” she said as she took the seat next to Sol. “I’m Naomi by the way, Naomi Ourique, and this,” she said as she held up her Bonsly, “ is Tang…he’s always sleeping though, he’s only a few weeks old.”

“Oh, um, I’m Sol…Sol Sangreluna.” He answered. He wasn’t really in the mood to talk, but didn’t want to seem rude…she wasn’t bad looking either.

“Wow…that’s a great name…so much imagery!” she said laughing. “Don’t worry, I’m kidding, you have an awesome name.”

“Um…thanks.” Sol answered. Now that he thought about it his name did have a lot of meaning…kind of.

“So…why are you going to Gensi City?” She asked, with a smile that would’ve made a Scyther break down and cry.

“Umm, I’m…going to see my dad…yeah.” It was kind of awkward, especially because he hadn’t seen his father for 5 years. He had been transferred by the Manaphus Guild to the Aruseus Guild, for his scientific work, but wasn’t given the funds to bring Sol and his mother along. After that it was as if he disappeared.

“Oh, really? Well, I’m going to apply to the Aruseus Guild…I’m really excited, my cousins in it and I hear it’s one of the best,” she said enthusiastically.

“Aruseus…my Dad’s in that Guild.” Sol answered. He was speaking with a very clear monotone. It contrasted with Naomi’s enthusiastic speech, which gave the impression that she had just downed three gallons of pure sugar.

“Wow…so are you going to join Aruseus like your Dad? That’d be so awesome, because you now know me and you won’t be alone and stuff!” She said, touching Sol’s arm.

“I…don’t know” Sol answered.

“Well, you should definitely think about it. Guilds are an amazing opportunity. You get to travel, improve your Pokemon training skills, and so many other things.” Naomi answered. She pulled her hand away from Sol’s arm, smiling sweetly. Sol actually never considered being in a Guild. There was just so much drama at home with his mother and the loan sharks that there never seemed time to apply.

“Attention All Passengers. We Will be approaching Gensi City Station in a few moments, please be sure you are ready.”

“Oh, wow I didn’t expect the ride to be so quick…look if you talk to your Dad and decide you want to join Guild Aruseus, then call me on my cell phone okay,” she said as she took a marker out of her pocket, and than yanked Sol’s hand towards her, and wrote down numbers. “Alright! Make sure you call me; I don’t know anybody in this city except my cousin, and he’s a dumbass. I gotta get my bags together; I hope I see you again soon.” She then stood up, with her Bonsly still in her arms, and walked down the aisle. Sol just sat there in his seat staring at his arm. Written there was her number with “Naomi” written under it. There was a little heart above the “i”.

Was she…flirting with me? He thought to himself. His mind was telling him that now really wasn’t the time to be worrying about girls, but his hormones were ecstatic beyond belief.

Sol got his bags together quickly, and left the train as soon as it pulled into Gensi City Station. Compared to the station in Claus town, this station seemed more modern. Exotic plants were growing everywhere in beautiful, luxurious pots, and people and their Pokemon rushed to and forth going about their normal comings and goings.

Outside the station there were a line of white taxis, just waiting for whomever to come out of the station and get a ride. Sol went up to the first one he saw, and knocked on the door. “Excuse me…can you take me to 23 Combusken Lane?” he asked the woman taxi driver.

“Yea, get in kid.” She replied. Sol quickly put his luggage in her trunk and got in the backseat. The ride was quite uneventful. The driver tried to start a conversation, but Sol didn’t put too much into it, he was too nervous about meeting his father. Figuring that Sol wasn’t going to talk, the taxi driver put on the radio news.

Guild Kyogrin has once again lost territory in the Orre Desert lands and Hokkai Archipelago Islands to the Groudon Guild. Escalated violence in these areas has brought up issues of other Guilds getting involved in the affair, namely Guild Jirachi which has been making plans to return peace to the area and between the two Guilds. Also in other news, the assassination of Entei Guild leader Antonio Mesa has caused much internal strife within it, and insiders say that it may be on the fringe of a schism between the Conservative…”

“Damn Guilds always with there damn drama…Kid if you’re smart you’ll stay away from them.” The driver said as she finally stopped the taxi in front of a small townhouse. “Alright...that’d be ‘bout 57 Pokes.” Sol, handed here some of the money, and then she drove off, leaving Sol alone in front of the building with his luggage. “Well here goes nothing…” he muttered to himself as he went up to the door and rang the bell. A blonde man with glasses, maybe around thirty opened the door.

“Oh…um, is Jackson Sangreluna here…I’m his…son.” He said to the man awkwardly. The blonde man was definitely not his father, he remembered his father having spiky dark red hair like his own, and he would definitely be older.

“ You’re his son…Oh god…come in, you may want to sit down in the living room, I’ve got some…bad news,” the blonde man said as he showed Sol in. He led him to a small living room with a television, and many pictures hung up on the wall. Sol even saw one of himself when he was a kid. Sol sat down on the sofa, he was getting nervous, and he was thinking that maybe something bad had happened to his dad. A Houndour was sleeping on a rug in the room; small little snores could even be heard. The blonde man sat down in a loveseat across from the sofa and sighed. “I’m sorry I’m the one to tell you this…but your father has been dead for three months.”

“…What?”

The blonde man wiped his brow and sighed again, he obviously wasn’t comfortable giving this news. “Listen…your name is Sol right? I’m Blake Kenai, Your father, he was working in the Malachi Jungle, doing research for the Aruseus Guild…I also work for them, me and your father were room mates. It was said from the reports that some people from the Darkrai guild raided their camp, and your father was killed in the scuffle…I’m sorry. I knew Jackson very well, we both worked in the research department…he was my boss. He was a good man.”

Sol didn’t know what to say. He just found out his father was dead, a man he barely knew. He didn’t know if the feeling that overcame him was grief or something close to being lost, like not knowing exactly what to do next.

“Look, do you have some on you can call to pick you up? Did you come from far away…I can’t really let you stay here, I’m leaving for a mission this evening…” the blonde man said, standing up from his chair.

Sol looked down at the number on his arm. “Naomi,” he said under his breath. “I think…I think I can call someone.”

“Great, the phone’s in the kitchen…and kid, really, I’m really sorry.”

Sol trudged to the kitchen, he wasn’t really sure what he was going to tell that girl, but it was the only thing he knew that he could do. Picking up the phone, Sol dialed the number, and waited for someone to answer.

“Hello?” said a sweet voice.

“Naomi…its Sol, from the train station.”

“Oh, hey Sol! How’s your dad? You planning to apply to Aruseus?”

“Umm, look something kind of happened…It’s just that…can you meet me at 23 Combusken Lane?”

“Of course…I’ll see you there!” she said enthusiastically than hung up. Sol was wondering if it was a good idea bringing her into this.

Blake told Sol, he should try to relax and just watch TV until his ride arrives. Sol tried to relax, but the uncertainty of what he was going to do next was just to distracting. Why didn’t his Mom know that his father was dead? Why didn’t he ever see hi father? So many questions were swirling around in his mind. He was interrupted by his questions when the doorbell rang. “That’s her…I’ll get it.” Sol called to Blake as he rushed to the door. When opened it there was Naomi, grinning like a Gengar.

“Oh my God Sol, I’m so happy we can hang out now!” she said as she hugged him really tight.

“Umm, thanks, yea. Naomi…”

“Where’s your Dad? Can I talk to him about the Aruseus Guild? I’m really interested. I think I’m gonna ask him about that freaky device that gives the Guilds powers…have you heard of it?” She said as her Bonsly waddled up behind her.

“Naomi…my Dad…he died.” Sol said, trying to explain the situation to her. Naomi’s happy demeanor immediately shifted.

“Sol…oh my god, did you just find out?” she said, placing her hand on his shoulder. Sol nodded. She than pulled him in for another hug. “Don’t worry. It’s going to be okay…”

“Naomi, I’m fine, really. I didn’t know him well at all…I’m sad, but not so much, if you know what I mean,” Sol tried to explain again to her, pulling away from her humongous bear hug of sympathy. “I sort of don’t have a place to stay now.”

“Oh, yes of course, you can stay with all of us at the Aruseus Guild dorms. They’re letting us applicants stay there until the process tomorrow.” She said, “You…It might be hard to convince them to let you stay but I’m sure that if you tell them about your dad they’ll understand.”

“Naomi, thank you.” Sol saw a taxi by the sidewalk. “Is that your taxi?”

“Yea…go get your stuff and I’ll meet you over there okay?” She said. She looked deeply at Sol one more time, and then picked up her Bonsly. “Don’t worry Sol, you’ll be fine,” she said before she headed towards the taxi.

Sol got his luggage together, said goodbye to Blake, and then went towards Naomi and the taxi. He got in and they both had a quiet uneventful ride. Naomi, who would usually try to talk or start a conversation, was silent. Sol just looked out the window wondering what to do next.

They both finally arrived at the Aruseus Training dorms; it was an immense building, built in a very modern way, but elegant and beautiful at the same time. In the center of the building was the mark of the Aruseus Guild, a yellow circle with for lines sticking out of it.

At the reception desk, Naomi was explaining Sol’s situation to the receptionist, a large orange haired woman, with beaver-like teeth. “Well…What is the boy’s father’s name? Will the boy be applying for Aruseus?” The beaver lady asked, as if this was her last day at her job, and she had it with all these annoying children.

“His name was Jackson Sangreluna. I’m his son, Sol Sangreluna.” Sol replied to the beaver lady. She made an odd clicking noise with her mouth, and then started abruptly pounding the keyboard of the computer in front of her with her beefy fingers.

“Hmph! It says here he never had a son!” replied the receptionist. “So…for you to be able to stay here you need to be applying for this guild! If you are not I want you out of this building!”

Naomi sighed and gave a disappointed look to Sol, “Sorry Sol.”

Sol had enough of this. Not knowing any other solution or way, Sol sighed and said one more thing to the beaver. “Actually I am applying to Aruseus. Can I have a room now?”

A few grammar notes. Corrections are in bold.
“Wow… so are you going to join Aruseus like your Dad? That’d be so awesome, because you now know me and you won’t be alone and stuff!” she said, touching Sol’s arm.

You need to put a space after an ellipis (three dots). You make this mistake throughout.

“I…don’t know,” Sol answered.

But overall, this has started out quite well. Description is good where you include it. Some things aren't described as much as I would have, but not everyone wants to describe a taxi as "a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria decked in yellow paint, with 'Metro Taxi' emblazoned on the side." Whether you want to describe minor elements is your discretion.

You need to describe ALL Pokemon, not just 4th gen ones. I don't believe Bonsly got a proper description. However, you handle emotion quite well.

It'll be interesting to see where you go with the guild system and the apparent power struggles between them. I'm sure they're used in other stories, just not in any i've read, so it will be new for me :)

This story so far looks to be pretty good. Unfortunately it is the "pretty good" fics that are most often overlooked by reviewers. Instead the ones that get the reviews are the legendary epics or the ones that are totally crap. With that said, don't get discouraged by lack of reviews. keep working on the story, get it established, and the readers will come.

You've got something interesting in the making here. Good luck with the next chapter!

Review y'all Pleeeeeeeeeeeeez, I give out virtual Brownies!!!!

Thanks Dark Persian for reviewing, I really appreciate it...and I do understand about how only the really epic fics or crap ones get attention, Oh well I'll just have to keep on typing.

More Reviews are still welcome so don't be shy, especially if you have questions, or if you have anything you'd like me to elaborate on.

Well here you go:

Chapter 2
Seaweed vs. Penguin ;394;

The Pottaishi purred as Sol scratched behind his golden beak-like crown. You wouldn’t think that a penguin type Pokemon would purr, but it did - at least Sven did. The Pottaishi purred again, and Sol couldn’t help but let out a little snicker. So much had happened to him in the last few hours, he figured he just needed time to sit down, relax and collect all the thoughts that were ricocheting off the walls of his brain. Sol crossed his arms in the loveseat he was sitting in and sighed, looking up at the ceiling. His room was dimly lit by a ceiling fan, slowly rotating around and around, reverberating a small pat-pat sound around the room. There were two small twin beds, with white sheets blazingly displaying the bright golden Aruseus Guild logo, with a pillow on each, also showing the logo. His room mate hadn’t shown up yet, but Sol was hoping that no one would ever disturb him. He would’ve been fine if he could just stay in his seat, scratching Sven behind the ears for eternity. But, with things the way they were, an idea like that was utterly absurd.

BAMM!

The door of the room exploded open, revealing the silhouette of a girl standing in the door way. “SOL!” she squealed, with a kind of almost sugary glee.

“Naomi, hey…” before Sol could say more, she was already strolling her way through his room, swaying back and forth with her Bonsly Tang in her arms.

“Sol, Sol, Sol, are you okay? I was kind of worried about you because you know you didn’t tell me what room you got. Wait – yea, you did, I probably just forgot or something stupid like that, so I just had to go to the ***** of a receptionist and I was just asking her a simple question, and she comes out with this huge attitude as if it’s my fault she’s got issues, and…” Naomi was talking at a sprinting pace. Sol was having a hard time keeping up. He could tell she did actually care how he was feeling about his dad and other things. He was thinking that maybe this was her way of dealing with tension…non-stop blabber. “…and so the Pichu actually had the vanilla…you feeling all right…with…you know.”

“Oh…uh yea.” Sol had zoned out for a second when she started talking about the Pichu. “It’s…you know, weird and all, but…let’s not talk about it, alright?”

“That’s fine, that’s fine…Oh…this is your Pottaishi?” she asked as she bent down to look at the two foot tall penguin.

“Yep, this is Sven. I got him as a Pochama a few years back, we’ve been through a lot together,” Sol replied, patting his blue Pokemon on the head. He got a quick flashback of all the times he and Sven had helped his mother avoid the loan sharks of the Lugia Guild, and the times they trained together in their front yard, Sol’s mother looking on. He was starting to miss his mother. Even though she wasn’t perfect, she was always there for him…more then his father had ever done.

“Hmm, he’s great…you got any others?” she said, she was sitting at the edge of one of the twin beds, placing Tang on the ground.

“No actually…we’ve done a lot of battles but we’ve never had many opportunities to fight wild Pokemon…you have others besides Tang?”

“Well…I have an Exeggutor, her name is Marquita - she’s not good with people at all. And I’ve got Zugaidosu, his name is Tiberius, I won him in a contest…he’s really rare, here you can see him,” Naomi said as she took a Pokeball from her belt, and from the pure white light it released immerged small, grey and blue dinosaur Pokemon. He had a small hump-like stub of a tail, and on his bald head were spikes, and they looked like they would hurt.

“Zugaiii” it squealed as it hopped up and down and up and down. It didn’t seem like it would ever stop.

“Is something wrong with him?” Sol asked as he followed the hyper-active Pokemon with his eyes.

“Ohh, he’s just really hyper…he does that until I give him something else to do.” Naomi answered, out of the corner of her eye she spotted a clock, and saw that it was about ten o’clock at night. “We gotta get up at like five am for the application meeting…I’m gonna head back to my room…I’ll meet you here tomorrow and we can get some breakfast okay?”

“Yea, see ya tomorrow.” Naomi left and Sven hopped onto one of the beds and cuddled up into a ball. Sol sighed, and got ready for bed. Tomorrow he would be applying for the Aruseus Guild. Sol had no idea why, a part of him said it was because of Naomi, another part said it was because he was interested in what his father had done, and the final part of him said it was because he had know idea what he would otherwise. He quickly got in the bed, Sven sleeping at his feet.

;438;

The next day, Sol woke up with something blue and furry on his face. Getting up immediately, he realized that Sven was on top of his head…somehow he was still asleep. “Sven, lazy butt wake up!” Sol grumbled as he yanked the penguin Pokemon off of his face.

“Sol! Come on they got an omelet bar!” squealed a voice. Naomi, this time dressed in what seemed to be the Aruseus Guild uniform, a yellow and white tank top, was standing at the foot of his bed, Tang in her arms, sleeping soundly.

“Na…Naomi! What are you doing in here?” Sol, said, still a little surprised.

“Oh, grow up Sol,” she said as she set down Tang and started rummaging through one of the dressers. She threw a bundle of white and yellow clothes on the bed. “Hurry and put that on, I want to get there before they run out of bacon!”

After all of that awkwardness both Naomi and Sol made there way down to the cafeteria, a huge modern room, with one half of the wall completely covered in a window overlooking a courtyard. It was around June, and the light was still quite dark outside around four in the morning. Sol noticed while Naomi was explaining something about a Torchic, that almost all of the people were wearing yellow and white clothes. Some wore tank tops like him and Naomi, others had vest, and he thought he even saw one old man in a wet suit.

Both of them sat down at one of the numerous white lunch tables that were dispersed throughout the cafeteria. The floor was also white, so they seemed to almost blend in with the tile. While Sol sat quietly poking at his delicious bacon and cheese omelet, Naomi blabbered on, only taking breaks to stuff something in her mouth.

“…and I told him that… Sol… you haven’t said much – are you sure you’re okay?” Naomi said, as she twirled around her plastic fork.

“Uhh…” Sol was about to say that was because she never stopped talking, but decided against that because that would be probably the rudest thing he could do, especially because she had been so exceedingly nice to him since they met. “It’s nothing, I guess maybe I’m nervous –“

“Sol! There is nothing to be nervous about!” she said pointing her plastic fork right at him. “This is a great opportunity. You’ll see everything’s going to work out.”

“Hey you people over there!” A voice of a boy was heard behind Naomi. She turned around to face him. “I’m bored, any of ya’ wanna battle?” he finished, scratching his humongous mop of brown hair. All of the sudden Naomi’s grey eyes got wide, and she dropped her fork into her empty plate.

“That’s it!” she exclaimed, grasping Sol on the shoulder. He almost choked on a piece of egg because she was just so unexpected. “You need to battle! It’ll make you feel better!” She then turned back around toward the challenging boy. “Hey, you with the afro! Sol’s gonna battle you!” she yelled at the big-haired boy, pointing both of her fingers towards the coughing boy sitting across from her.

“Wha-“he tried to interject, but he was still coughing from his eggs. He really wasn’t in the mood to battle, hell; he really wasn’t in the mood to be up at around four in the morning choking on eggs.

After Sol had gained his breath back, he was already out in the darkened courtyard of the building (the sun still had not risen) standing across from the boy with the afro. Naomi was close by at the side, along with a few other people who were behind her.

“Alright! I’m going to be the referee!” Naomi said. She was holding two sticks, which Sol assumed she was going to use for flags. “This’ll be a one-on-one battle between Sol Sangreluna and… Afroman?”

“Ugh...it’s Japh,” Sol’s opponent said with an annoyed tone, as a few girls on the side line giggled.

“Alright! Begin!” she yelled. Sol sighed. He might as well go ahead in battle. Who knows, maybe Naomi is right and the battle will make him feel better. Japh wasted no time and released his Pokemon from his ball. The white light was released from the sphere and formed an odd almost squid-like shape. Appearing from the light was a green creature, its head wasn’t much more then a round ball, with two tiny, black beady eyes like olives. From its small, green apple head, seaweed like protrusions flowed, as if they were tentacles. They seemed to lift the Pokemon up three feet, and swayed back and forth as if they were going with the current of the ocean.

“What the hell is that thing?” an anonymous person in the sidelines yelled.

There was a brief pause. “It’s a Squaphyta, found him in the oceans a while back.” Japh said, apparently answering the question.

“Still doesn’t make that afro look good on you!” yelled a voice, probably the same rude one as before.

Ignoring the heckler, Japh ordered his first attack, “Cordy! Focus your energy on a Growth, then constrict that bird so it can’t move!” The small green seaweed Pokemon nodded its small head in agreement and sped towards Sven, still moving as if he was floating in the ocean.

“Hurry Sven, hit him with a metal claw to push away those tentacles…then try to get a good peck in,” Sol said, his eyes tracing the Squaphyta, looking for any sign of weakness or opening. As the green squid advanced on Sven he slashed the long green strands that were reaching out for him with a quick from a metal claw he had mustered up. The Pottaishi didn’t make a sound, he kept quiet focusing on their target, while the small green mass of seaweed let out a squeak of “Squaa!” as it fell to the ground.

“Hmm, Sol and Sven…they’re both so focused and concentrated on this battle…but they’re still so calm…” Naomi whispered to herself as she fidgeted with the stick in her left hand.

As the Squaphyta was slashed aside by Sven, the blue penguin leapt up in the air, ready to pin the squid to the ground for a peck.

“Cordy now!” yelled Japh, his afro even jiggling a little as he did so. Hearing this from his trainer, the Squaphyta gave another squeak, and before anyone new exactly what happened, Sven was on the ground, his little yellow penguin feet straight up in the air. A strand of seaweed from the Squaphyta was wrapped around Sven’s right foot. Obviously, his opponent must’ve caught Sven in the air, causing him to trip up and fall. Japh, snickered, “Cordy, continue constricting! Squeeze the life out of that thing!” Hearing this Sven quickly tried to standup to face the green squid.

Sol, had to think quickly now, before Sven was in a position that would be hard to get out of. “Sven, use the Bubblebeam, aim it straight towards the Squaphyta, try to get out of his hold while he’s distracted,” he told his Pokemon. Immediately, Sven breathed in, the Squaphyta’s other tentacles a foot from his face, letting out a stream of large tennis ball sized bubbles pummeling towards his opponent. With great ease, the Squaphyta flailed around his other tentacles, pushing most the bubbles out of his way and towards the sidelines. Sven was thrust to the side due to the tentacles flailing around. Sol could see that his Pottaishi was breathing hard, his first fall from jumping, and this second thrust to the side had taken a toll on him. Even though the seaweed of the Squaphyta looked weak in flimsy, there must’ve been real muscle inside of them.

“All right finish this! Use your tentacles as a rope to bring him close to you, and then absorb him!” Japh said, still smiling. It seemed to him that the battle was just about over, and he saw no way the water-type bird would be able to recover from a close range absorb.

Sol took a good deep stare at the Squaphyta. It wasn’t exactly the fastest Pokemon, the only reason it was able to take advantage of Sven was because of the reach of all the tentacles. He thought to himself, “If I somehow get Sven to go fast enough, maybe he could be able to escape the tentacles…but how can I do that?”

Naomi watched the battle, as Squaphyta roped a seaweed tentacle around Sven’s neck, pulling it closer to him. Naomi sighed as she saw Sol’s concentrated expression, thinking to herself, “Sol’s thinking way too much, he needs to be able to make a decision quickly if he wants to ever be able to win this…”

“Sven! Try to speed up…or something, try to get away from the tentacles, maybe try another Bubblebeam!” Sol said, a little more tension in his voice then before. It wasn’t as if this was an important battle or anything – he knew that. It was just that seeing Sven being handled and beaten so thoroughly by a Pokemon that probably weighed less then what he had for breakfast that morning was not easy to watch.

“Po…” Sven replied in a low raspy voice he took a deep breath, and then in a quick flash released himself from the seaweed noose around his neck and rushed in the opposite direction of the Squaphyta. There was still one strand of seaweed tentacle latched onto Sven’s leg. With the quick speed that Sven just released, the Green Squid was hurled into the air with so much force that it flew over Sol’s head, releasing all hold it had on Sven.

“What! How the hell it get so fast?” Japh said scratching his afro.

Naomi let out smile, “Agility…Even though Sol was so vague, Sven was able to figure out some move to help him out in that situation,” she thought, but then gasped as she saw exactly where the Squaphyta had ended up. A tall athletic woman, with short pale red hair that was wavy like an ocean tainted with blood, held the Squaphyta in her fist, practically squeezing it.

“I thought they told you children ‘vat no battles were to be done before thee exam,” she said with a rough accent that seemed to cut through them like some short blade. The woman threw the Squaphyta back towards Japh, who had to run in the middle of where they were battling to catch him. A look of complete disgust on the woman’s face, she quickly strolled over to Sol, grabbed the scruff of his collar, and did the same to Japh…except she held him by his afro. Naomi and everyone who was watching were staring in awe at this woman. It wasn’t because she had been rash, it wasn’t because she now held two teenage boys about two feet above the ground, it was because she had fingernails – no, claws, that were at least a foot long in length. Sol felt the sharpness of them by his neck, starting moment by moment to wonder if this woman was going to slit their throats right there at that moment. A Sneasel beside her laughed maniacally, as she, still carrying both boys, casually walked back into the building.
