• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero - DLC Speculation & Discussion Thread

Looking at the list, if this is accurate the only Pokemon that will be missing from the Switch games will be the other two Unova Starters, Elemental Monkeys, Watchog, and Furfrou. The Starters are weird as going off of the list we'll have the Kanto, Johto, and Alola Starters present so having them still omitted is pretty odd.

Also, happy to see Mightyena, Chandelure, and Kommo-o will be back, along with Zebstrika.
PATRAT AND WATCHOG ARE GONE FOREVER WOOOOOOO

On the topic of the first DLC being more Japanese but Spanish, I have to say that I honestly like that. I've never been too fond of the idea of "Spain, but Pokémonified" and similar approaches to region design. I much prefer to see a mix of inspirations.
According to the website, Teal Mask doesn't take place in Paldea. Kitakami, the place it happens, is a whole other place so the japanese aspects of it shouldn't really interfere with Paldea (although someone mentioned the bamboo forest being close to the border could be a hint that a japanese themed place was there, which makes perfect sense).

From what it seems, Kitakami is probably based on Onigashima (Ogre Island) - or Megijima, the real location often linked to it. In what is probably the most well known tale of Japanese folklore, Momotaro goes there to slay the Ogre King and is aided in his adventure by a dog, a monkey and a pheasant he tames using dango.
The legendary trio is obvious based on the three animals and are referred to as heroes that once protected Kitakami, while Orgepon is named after an ogre and on the trailer you can see the pokémon trainer on Momotaro's place chasing after it along with the animal trio:

I would have never guessed Orgepon was based on an ogre if it was not on the name. It looks more like some kind of trickster instead of a brute.

I think its mask will allow it to turn into said brute.

It's not a game Kate.

Isn't Orge sometimes used as a translation of
Oni? Oni are often depicted as brutes yes but they do have relations to masks and they are know as shapeshifting trickster?

Either way I'm naming my Ogrepon Fiona.

If Kitakami is based on Megijima I wonder where they will place the island on the Pokémon globe, if they address it at all. Especially since the DLC seems so strongly linked to Terastal which is a Paldea-specific phenomenon, and Area Zero being a central focus.

Do you think Terapagos will get an Evil/angry form?

Most of the new pokemon for the DLC actually look nice!

I like the stadium in the middle of the ocean!

So let's break it down.

Isle of Armor had 4 new legendaries and 5 regional forms.

So far we have 4 new legendaries at the moment.

Any chance we're going to see some more regional or convergent forms?
Actually, the Isle of Armor had two legendaries, one of which had two forms, and a Mythical, as well as Galarian Slowbro.

If they give any explanation (which they may not) I could see them coming up with something like there being a mysterious tunnel/portal that randomly connects the two areas due to the power of one of the new Pokemon. Either that or the Pokemon map is even more different and its the exact opposite side of the Pokemon world or they used to be in different places and connected but some Pokemon or event. moved them and thus the power of Terastal still is a focus. Its all very loose i'll admit but that's the best I can suggest for now.

This is just a thought but what if we’re going to be getting Paradox mons based on the other legendary beasts and Swords of Justice to hold us over until the 1st part of the DLC comes out.

So maybe it could break down like this where we get them every three months:

February: Walking Wake(based off of Suicune) and Iron Leaves(based off of Virizion)

May: Paradox Mon based off of Entei, Paradox Mon based off of Terrakion

August: Paradox Mon based off of Raikou, Paradox Mon based off of Cobalion

September: 1st part of the DLC comes out
December: 2nd Part of the DLC comes out
I'm not sure if that's the case. But if it is, maybe they could combine into what we see in the Scarlet Book and Violet Book respectively via Absofusion.

Doubtful. We probably just take a boat or Flying Taxi there, like we do for just about every other faraway area disconnected from the mainland.

I don’t know about you guys, but I was hoping for another monkey, dog and bird. We were running low. Fingers crossed MK12 has another ninja, and Smash comes with another sword fighter before the holidays.

Hey, wait a second. The disk Pokemon was stated to have a hexagon-pattern shell. Terapagos only has pentagons.

I wasn't talking about how we physically get there but more speculating what the connection could be to Area Zero. We know the DLC is known as 'the hidden treasure of area Zero' which implies that both parts The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk will have at least a loose connection to Area Zero. Otherwise they could just call it the hidden treasure.

Are you being sarcastic? I can't tell.

Just count the number of grass monkies we have, you’ll get your answer.

That Walking Wake is going to turn heads. It’s juuust balanced enough where it’ll be solid in OU stat-wise, but under the right conditions it’s utterly broken. It doesn’t have to worry much about weather, and two of the weather types it excels in. It gets NO Ice-type moves, highly unusual for a Water-type. Suicune by contrast gets a smattering of ice moves. I am royally jelly of Scarlet players rn; you get all the cool Paradox ‘Mons. :/

It still feels a little odd to have a DLC that apparently takes place on another continent, but I guess maybe they want to save southern France/Andorra/Catalonia for a new generation (assuming Kitakami isn't the inaccessible plateau directly north of Paldea).

The Terapagos that we currently see is probably only one part of it. The other is probably another form that we still dont know about.

Not excited to see another monkey pokemon, but at least most of the other new ones look more appealing.
