The epitome of grace
This is my first attempt at fic writing. I originally had the idea a year ago, but i didn't know any place where I could host it. When I found SPPF, i was able to put my ideas on paper. Now, it's finally ready! ^_^
I'd rate this PG-13 for graphic description and violence. When I mean violence, I mean Pokemon that are battling, but they actually cause wounds and death. Graphic description is basically describing these wounds and death so clearly it's as though you're seeing it in real life. The proulouge isn't really good without Chapter 1, so I put them together:
Proulouge- The Rebel Guardian
In the beginning, there was Mew. Mew was the only thing alive that existed in the earth, and it was busy creating the plants of the world, as well as perfecting attacks that it created
In time, Mew grew lonely. It breathed life into motionless Substitute dolls, and they became Mew. The Mews thought the same, as they were just clones. As a result, a great civilization emerged, and all the Mews cooperated to build it. After all, they thought the same, and no arguments emerged.
The Mews separated upon the land, and lived in parts of the world, ranging from the bottomless ocean to the depths of the rain forests. They soon gave birth, and started to have children. These children adapted to their environments over many years, and soon Mews were reduced to only a few, as most had evolved to become the new “Pokemon”, as they were called. Eventually, there was only one Mew, who gave birth to only one other Mew. The Pokemon formed the first system of government, the Sacred Guardians.
The Sacred Guardians were Pokemon, chosen by Mew itself to achieve greatness. They were infused with Pure energy, and their attacks were more powerful than ever. They ruled over all Pokemon, and were wise in decisions. Each Guardian was in charge of something different, and once a Guardian died, a Mew chose the new one. No one ever knew why they were called Sacred Guardians, and Mew always changed the subject when asked. A rumor about them having to guard a dangerous energy from getting out spread, but no evidence was found to support it. The Guardians never answered questions about this, and neither did Mew. The Guardian system lasted for generations, and life was prosperous during those times.
It was too good to last, however. When the Guardians used the fabled energy to create two powerful beings, one of them revolted soon after. The rebel strongly objected to the creation of the beings, and wanted their destruction immediately. When the other Guardians ignored his words and considered stripping him of his powers, he retaliated. One by one, each Guardian was mysteriously murdered, and their remains were too gruesome to even think about. Everyone was in shock. The rebel couldn’t have done this; it was going against the Sacred Oath. Pretty soon, suspicions pointed towards the rebel.
Massive armies of the official military and civilian militias met the Guardian to take him in custody, and the results were disastrous. A lone Machamp that barely survived described horrid purple energy coming from the rebel, a dark energy so poisonous. He then fainted, but even the Blissey flown all the way from Johto couldn’t find a cure for the strange burns covering him. He was prounounced dead a few hours later. Out of 1,000, he was the only survivor, and for less than a day.
A Region-wide Emergency Code Red was declared in Hoenn, as armies and even other Guardians couldn’t stand up to this new menace. The scariest thought was that he did this all by himself, without any help. No one thought that the warning level could be upgraded any further, as it never had been. Yet, a Region-Wide Emergency Code Red Genocide was proclaimed, and Pokemon in Hoenn and neighboring regions panicked. All order was gone, everyone just wanted to get the heck out of the Genocide Zone, where the rebel frequently struck. Unfortunately, a lot of water pokemon and ships had been absolutely destroyed, leaving the ports unable to help anyone get out.. Black lightning struck down Flying pokemon, so travel by air was cut off. Nothing happened to the earth, but no one dared to try to tunnel beneath the ocean. It was too tiring and what if the tunnel collapsed and trapped vunerable pokemon underneath tons of rubble at the ocean floor?
Pokemon were forced to stay in their respective regions, unable to get out. Communication lines between regions were also cut off, leaving everyone clueless. Every day, there were news of murders, and occasionally, a Sacred Guardian murdered. No one knew what to do, and everyone was just hopeless in this nightmare brought to life. The military had long been blown into oblivion, and guerrilla attacks on the rebel didn’t work at all.
Suddenly, the remaining few Sacred Guardians started to head towards Soot volcano, located on the east side of Hoenn. No one knew why, but they helped the Guardians along the way all the same. The murders by the Rebel intensified, but it didn’t alter the Guardian’s path. They were still picked off one by one, but the remaining few drew closer and closer. Finally, only one was left, Master Jonathan, skilled in spellcasting and the magic department of the Guardians. He settled down to rest in a valley near Mt. Pyre, and waited until his energy was enough so he could travel all the way to Soot volcano…
Here's Chapter 1:
Chapter 1- Death of a Sacred Guardian.
Our story starts out in the region of Hoenn, at a time so ancient, no records of the time can be found. The events back then are now just stories told by Pokemon to their children, and even then, time mixes things up…
A wide valley stood in the middle of a mountain range. Rather than sloping edges, the walls of the valley were at straight up, so it was like a giant pit. A few Cheri berry trees swayed in the soft, rustling breeze, but there was no other movement. The landscape was torn and messed up. Except for the Cheri berries, all plant life was now in charred ruins, with black bark pieces strewn all over the place. The earth had deep, blackened craters all over it, and bones littered them. The sky was cloudy, as though it was echoing the land’s mood or sorrow and anguish. A river flowed through an underground path to the surface for the length of the valley, then back down again. It was horribly stained with blotches of crimson blood, with a few entrails floating here and there. Near the walls of the valley, a little rock stood. It was about a yard high, and a few feet wide. The rock, made of shiny white marble, would have looked quite pretty if it weren’t for the haunting ribbons of blood strewn all over its surface.
A small figure was slumped behind this rock. The figure was small, and it had two thin wings tinted with red at their ends. It had a small mask covering its eyes, and four small appendages protruded from its abdomen. It was a Ninjask, panting heavily and clutching a wound in its side. A small bug-type nearby was hovering. Its body was completely hollow, with two wing-like proportions sticking out of its sides. A silver halo was right above its head, which had two beady eyes anxiously watching the Ninjask.
“Master Jonathan, that wound is like no other I have ever seen before. It barely penetrates the skin, but you feel as though you’re on fire,” the Shedinja spoke, worried. “It is most likely a Will of the Wisp. I have heard about this on my travels. Take this Lum Berry master, and let it heal.” It then focused on a patch of air in front of it, which rearranged its molecules to become a small, green berry from thin air, which it gave it to Jonathan.
“Samuel, you have learned well as an apprentice. May Ho-oh reward you,” whispered the Ninjask, who sounded as though every syllable was painful to speak. He then nibbled on the Lum Berry, and sighed in relief as the burn slowly faded away into his skin and the redness vanished. A little stronger, he got up and beat his wings, hovering several inches off the ground. “We must get on and head back to Soot volcano. There we can call upon the-”
BOOM! An orange beam of energy suddenly flew out of no where and struck the rock, causing it to explode into pieces, which ricocheted off of the ground and struck a green orb, but not penetrating it. The orb faded, revealing the Shedinja and Ninjask, both using the defensive move Protect.
“He found us already! Quick, leave now!” Jonathan shouted, and they zoomed off in an eastern direction, only to be confronted with the wall of the pit-like valley. “We’re going to have to stay here. Even if we could leave the valley, we would be handing the advantage to him as his aerial powers are strong,” the Ninjask spoke grimly.
“But what can we do Master? We can’t just hover here and wait! We must do something!” Samuel cried out.
“The best offense is a good defense, my apprentice. Call upon your copies, and we shall escape soon,” Jonathan said, trying to sooth it when even he was shaking with fear. They then glowed together and suddenly dozens of Ninjasks and Shedinjas flew from their bodies, and settled all over the valley. These were just illusional copies, but they looked no different than the real ones. The real ones settled behind another big rock, and waited for the inevitable…
A lone figure darted out of the sky and landed with a light thud in the middle of the valley with the copies circulating here and there. There was a dark aura around this Pokemon. The air suddenly turned ice-cold, and the wind stopped. The Cheri berry trees instantly burst into flames when the figure stood upright and merely glanced at them with his gaunt, red eyes. The tattered leaves and berries curled up and turned to ash, which then fell to the ground. On contact the ground suddenly became parched and dry, completely devoid of all life.
“Come out, come out wherever you are…” the Pokemon hissed. A stream of black smoke issued from his mouth as he spoke these terrible words while slowly walking towards the nearest shedinja copy. A skeletal arm reached out from under the shadow aura and touched the illusion, which vanished in a hiss of Shadow energy. The other copies instantly vanished in puffs of black smoke.
“Samuel, call upon the Dance of Swords. Then throw the Shadow Ball at him. It is our only hope,” Jonathan urgently whispered to the frightened Shedinja.
“But what about you?” Samuel asked
“I’ll be fine. NOW GO!” the Ninjask said. Samuel looked at him for what seemed like an eternity, then turned and disappeared through the shadows. Suddenly, the Ninjask glowed with a bright light. He seemed to be holding a sphere of energy in his arms, and it illuminated the whole environment. The ball of pure white light grew larger than Jonathan, and he struggled to hold it tight. A second later, it parted into thin wisps of energy which spread over the area of the valley through the air, which then glowed also. The sky looked like a mass of pure white.
Noticing the bright light, the Shadow figure started glowing as well, except there was a horrid black energy in its arms. It would have been unleashed had not the whole Sky of Light performed its damage. A wisp of energy spiraled down and circled the Shadow Figure. His concentration broken, he could do nothing but watch as more streams of light poured down, until there was a whole twister circling him, becoming smaller and smaller, doing the more damage as Pure energy concentrated in the little space it had. The twister slowly vanished, leaving him panting and gasping in pain.
All above this in a cave, Samuel was performing a strange dance. Bright silver swords were clanking around him, moving around him faster and faster. His thoughts came upon his master and his concentration was broken. The swords faded away before he could absorb their effect fully.
“I must not worry about Master Jonathan. I know he has the power to beat him.” With that Samuel retreated further into the cave where sounds were blocked out eventually and started the Swords Dance again.
Outside, the Shadow figure finally rose to his feet. He murmured strange, unintelligible words, and the sky darkened. Clouds circled around overhead, and a bolt of strange lightning flew to the ground. The Ninjask attempted to dodge with his incredible speed, but the Shadow lightning curved in midair and struck. It was pain coursing through his body, pain beyond anything he felt before. It felt like his whole body was getting burned and shocked at the same time. Only one dim thought managed to get through his brain that was getting shocked by the second.
There’s only one way Benedict could have these type of attacks, Jonathan realized with horror. The lightning ceased and the smell of fried flesh tainted the air.
“Had enough? Or would you like to just surrender?”Benedict asked with a merciless laugh.
“Never, traitor. There’s only one way you could have that Shadow lightning: You fused your soul with Shadow Energy.” Jonathan said to Benedict, who was laughing more than ever.
“Quite right. However, I have just meddled in it a little, while you and the rest of those blasted spell-casters used it to create those two monstrosities!” Benedict spat back. “Do you know the extent of the damage? Do you know what they will do once they realize what they’re capable of? DO YOU?” He then charged up another hyper beam and aimed it at where Jonathan’s voice was coming. His rage got the better of him though, and the powerful beam missed its target by a long shot. It struck the overhang above the Ninjask though, and rocks the size of Wailmers tumbled down onto Jonathan. Benedict watched carefully, as he knew that even a rock slide that was four times effective against a bug/flying type like Ninjask couldn’t kill a Sacred Guardian. Sure enough, a crack began to appear through the rocks. It grew and divided into other cracks, which glowed with a white light. They diversified, and soon there were so many glowing cracks it was as though the whole thing was white. There was a loud cracking sound, and the whole rock exploded. A Solar beam charged out and hit Benedict straight on in the face.
“You forget that you can never defeat us, Benedict!” Jonathan shouted as he charged up another solar beam. “Because you betrayed us, we have no choice but to kill you!” He blasted Benedict at close-range with another solar beam, which threw Benedict against the walls.
“You think I didn’t know about that? I had the Shadow energy on my side, and I am still living as you can see,” He was panting as he said this. He barely had enough energy to stand, and one more powerful attack would finish him off for good. Jonathan glowed brightly again, and charged up an orange ball of energy. It grew larger and larger, but he didn’t release it yet. This time, he was aiming to kill, not to just hurt.
“You betrayed the Sacred Guardians, traitor. Even if you defeated me, there are still many more of us out there. Take Lady Mariah for instance. She’s the most powerful of us all and-” He never finished his sentence. A skeletal hand seemed to be looking for something beneath the black haze.
“Speaking of her…”Benedict finally found what he was looking for and produced it for Jonathan to see. It was a Milotic’s severed head. The neck was brutally chopped off, and Jonathan could easily see that Benedict had taken his time doing so. Where two brown eyes should have been, there were now gaping, empty sockets. The expression on Lady Mariah’s face was that of pure terror, and Jonathan knew that nothing ever scared her. The red hair on either side of her head was tainted with a different kind of red, the red of blood. To top off this gory image, blood was still dripping from the stub of the neck.
“How… How could you? Betraying us was one thing, but killing us? Why, Benedict, why? If I am to die, let me know the reason,” The Ninjask said with extreme sadness in his voice. His best friend… gone…The Hyper beam in his hands faltered, and grew smaller until the last orange wisps vanished.
“I did it for revenge. You all wanted to control everything! Even nature! Pokemon are meant to live on the earth, not rule it. Those…those two freaks you all made. They were just pawns in your efforts to control droughts and drizzles. You ruled over pokemon everywhere, but you wanted to control the one last thing that was out of your reach… the weather.” Benedict’s voice shook with anger, and he breathed heavily in to control himself.
“We need to control the weather! Haven’t you heard about the floods and the scorching heat? We can’t perform Rain dances and call upon Sunny days forever! And that Linoone, Gladys Orana? Struck by lightning, she died instantly!” Jonathan yelled back.
“Fool, that lightning wasn’t natural! You haven’t heard about the scandal surrounding the Orana family! Enough discussion, you will suffer NOW!” Benedict then glowed, and intense waves of Shadow Energy erupted from his body. The waves soared toward Jonathan, who glowed and erupted with his own waves, this time white and untainted. The energy waves met in the middle of the valley, and each side was struggling to overcome the other…
In the cavern, Samuel was doing the third Swords dance. He was remembering the complicated movements, and bright silver swords formed from thin air. They started to move around him slowly, and he continued the strange, jerky movements. Samuel started out in a battle stance by balancing on the floor. He then imagined an enemy was nearby him, and shot an imaginary shadow ball at him. The mental foe doubled over in pain, and the swords started to move faster as well as glow brighter. The foe stood up and charged up a strong flamethrower in Samuel’s mind. Samuel imagined a protective force, and a green orb surrounded him to protect against the fake fire flamethrower, which licked the sides of the orb but couldn’t break through. The swords moved even faster, and Samuel had to close his eyes or risk being blinded from the white light that was emanating from the swords. He then focused on moving faster, suddenly vanishing, and reappearing right in front of his foe. He concentrated so hard that he actually performed an Aerial Ace in reality. The mental foe keeled over, fainted and down for the count. The swords started to close in and glow even brighter. This was going to be the most difficult part of the Swords Dance yet: absorbing the high attack power.
Samuel strained to open his eyes, but his body seemed to decide to keep them shut. The swords closed in now, and they seemed ready to strike right into the Shedinja. He finally wrenched them open for one split second, but that was enough. The swords swung at Samuel, but he hovered up in time. The swords fused together in the bright light, and Samuel felt as though the light was pouring through his body. When he managed to open his eyes again, he was back on the ground and he felt more powerful. With all three swords dances absorbed, his attack was at maximum. Feeling relieved with himself, he remembered his master’s situation. Samuel zoomed out of that cave to help his master. Little did he know that it would be too late.
Back at the valley, Benedict and Jonathan were struggling to keep up their energy outbursts. The waves coming out from each were strong, yet they were unable to penetrate the other side. Jonathan knew that Benedict had an infinite amount of Shadow energy, yet the supposedly infinite Sacred energy was dwindling. He realized that when each Sacred Guardian was murdered and their bodies ripped apart by the psychopath before him, their energy that was normally kept in their bodies now was free all over the land, instead of being properly withdrawn and stored back at the Cave of Origin. The only energy that could stop Benedict was in him, and it was dwindling fast.
“STOP!” a voice cried out into the wind. It belonged to a Shedinja zooming toward his weak master. Both sides looked up in surprise and their waves faltered, their concentration broken. Samuel zoomed at his master, who was on the verge of collapsing. “Master, what can I do to help? Are you injured?” Samuel said as he dropped down beside Jonathan.
“I can’t be saved, but you must stop Benedict,” whispered Jonathan, as he touched Samuel. Samuel was fresh and ready to battle, plus he had Sacred energy. It was better that his energy belonged to him rather than be wasted. Jonathan closed his eyes and the arm touching Samuel glowed, and the mystical force was transferred. “I know you’ll defeat him…” With that Jonathan collapsed. He was now a regular Ninjask, depleted of HP and ready to die. He had fulfilled his Purpose.
“How touching. But I will have to end this happy reunion…”Benedict chuckled, and then let one final wave of Shadow Energy out after a brief charge. For the two bug-types, time seemed to slow down as the rippling black arc of smoke headed toward them. Jonathan glanced at the horrified look on Samuel’s face, realizing that he was too scared to do anything. He hovered right in front of the Shedinja and glowed verdant with Protect. This would be his final act.
The Shadow wave consumed the orb, searching for an opening as it licked its sides in vain. The green slowly turned to a venomous dark purple as the energy was absorbed. The Protect, now just Shadow energy, was swirling around Jonathan. Benedict closed his eyes, and imagined a sphere closing in….
The orb of energy suddenly rebounded on the pokemon that unleashed it. Shadow energy swirled through the Ninjasks’ frail body, and his exoskeleton was ripped apart instantly. Screaming in pain, Jonathan fell to the ground as each organ was slowly ripped apart by the vicious Benedict with Shadow power. Samuel watched in horror as Jonathan’s arms were ripped off, then the stumps were doused with black smoke, which amplified the blood loss. Benedict then proceeded to carefully tear out the stomach, and slowly cut through it. Jonathan yelled out in pain, but his trachea was damaged so much that all he could do was scream, waiting for the end, waiting for death, the final savior…
Benedict formed a guillotine blade out of Shadow energy, and drove it straight through Jonathan’s neck. All that was keeping him alive was Benedict, who was literally controlling the Shadow energy to keep Jonathan’s soul intact. The Ninjask was completely helpless, his body hanging in the air like a rag doll. Finally, Benedict got bored with this gory spectacle, and filled Jonathan’s body, or what was left of it, with tainted power. He continued to do this, until finally the body exploded and bits of flesh flied everywhere.
“He got the execution he deserved. Now for you, young apprentice. I’ll be sure to end this quick, with one stroke…”Benedict carefully shot a stream of black energy at Samuel. His mind was completely blank; he didn’t know what to do. A thought about Benedict’s words about one swift stroke came to mind, and he realized there was still one move that would save him…
