The Hunt

PeeGee

ROAWR!
Prologue

She ran clumsily through the streets. Various non-descript houses blurred past her as she tried to escape. Behind her the girl could hear the shouting of the town’s people. She wasn’t ever going to be accepted, the girl was foolish to ever think that she would be.

“Get the Freak!” “She’s an abomination!” “God giveth and God taketh!”

The last comment, shouted out by the local pastor, made her laugh. Like God made her the way that she was. The girl knew exactly why she was the way she was. With one last look at the town’s people the girl decided that she needed to go.

“Goodbye,” she murmured before it happened.

What where once her arms, now a pair of white tipped brown wings, started to flap and the girl was lifted into the air. As she was lifted into the air long white tipped feathers poked out from around her buttocks area, which infuriated the town’s people even more.

“Don’t let the heathen get away!” Once again the pastor commented.

The girl looked back at her old home town before flapping her arm wings and shooting off into the sky.

The boy sat on the pier and watched the sun set. It seemed to be the only thing that didn’t judge him for what he was. He had tried to go home, but it didn’t go too well for him. The boy lifted his right arm, which now looked like a giant membranous fin, and looked at the long red scar that adorned it. He was hoping that his brother would accept him, but that wasn’t the case. His brother was who led him out of the town.

“Why, Romeo? Why?”

As the last of the sun disappeared into the horizon the boy closed his eyes and let the cool night air blow onto him. It felt refreshing against his skin and he gleefully absorbed the moisture in the air. In fact he liked the air so much that he didn’t hear the cracking of a foot stepping on sticks.

“Gotcha!”

He felt a pair of well muscled arms wrap around his chest and pull him backwards. The boy fought his attacker, who he soon learned was his brother, before he was able to jump into the sea water. As the boy swam away from the pier, Romeo saw the now rubber-like skin of his brother. And the thought of what his brother had become infuriated him.

“How are they going?” the man asked.

A hidden figure, who was sitting in a swivel chair, turned around to the man before shoving him a briefcase.

“Well that’s interesting,” he commented as he read what was contained in the briefcase.

“And more and more of them are developing every year?” the man asked.

The hidden figure nodded before pressing a remote. The man turned around, and to his surprise, a television screen appeared from a painting. On the screen several teenagers showed. Underneath them several lines of information appeared. The man read the information on the screen before he turned towards the figure.

“So the mutation doesn’t seem to affect children or adults?”

The figure didn’t answer the man’s question; instead the figure simply pressed another button. The man looked at the screen and laughed.

A lone girl sat in her room. She stared out of her window and into the mountains that surrounded her home. She hadn’t been out of her room for weeks, nearly months. And it all started due to one tiny thing. The girl smiled as she pinched her nails together and when she pulled them away a fine thread of web went with them. She brushed away the web and walked over to her dressing table mirror. The girl lifted up her hair and saw about six lumps on the sides of her head. She smiled as she felt them.

“It’s happening and I can’t stop it,” she said to herself.

And no one else would ever know about her. When her mother found out about her condition she was locked up. Her mother couldn’t accept the change and instead decided to make sure that nobody else ever found out about it. But the girl had other plans. She walked over to it, and shoved it right through the window! Not even wincing at the glass in her hand, the girl slid out of the window; having particular trouble getting her now bulbous pelvic area out of it.

“Goodbye forever,” she whispered as she looked at her old home.

----------

A boy poked his small head out of a green dome tent and quickly withdrew it when it was splattered by rain. He brushed the water out of his hair before pulling up his purple and blue sleeping bag. He had been camping in the woods for months, ever since it happened. His entire life had been ruined by it. The boy was once a popular jock with a good boyfriend and now, he was an outcast living out in the woods. Remembering how his life was ruined the boy gingerly touched two hard bumps protruding from his skull. Sadly that wasn’t all that he had, the boy’s feet were starting to shrink and turn black. To him the transformation was starting to get worse and worse.

“Why did this have to happen to me?” he whined as he pulled his sleeping bag higher.

But he knew why it had happened to him and he regretted it every day.

She floated on top of the pool and took in the sun. This was one of the rare times that she was able to come out into the open.

“Silence,” she muttered, “How perfect?”

The girl shielded her eyes from the sun with one of her spongy arms. Her mutation was so easy to hide, a bit of make-up and a long sleeved shirt with long pants was all she needed. But she never took a risk that could end up with her being exposed.

“Time’s up,” the girl said to herself as she hopped out of the pool.

She dried herself off and put on her clothes, all the while keeping a look out on any people that could walk in on her. The girl proceeded to sneak out of the pool and was on the road when something attracted her attention. A bush rustled and she looked at it. Then it happened. Something burst out of the bush and the next thing the girl knew, she felt slightly lighter around her midsection. She looked down and saw that she had a large sword sticking right through her.

----------

The man’s phone went off. He picked it up and listened for a moment before he hung up.

“One has been identified and taken care of,” said the man to the hidden figure.
