The Isle of Armor & The Crown Tundra DLC - GENERAL DISCUSSION Thread

I just need them both to get gyms.

It would be so dope for them to become gym leaders, even if they're only based in the Isle of Armor.
Yeah for the more of the game, it would be cool if Isle of Armor and maybe even Crown Tundra became a part of the gym challenge, as right now they feel so isolated from mainland Galar life

I could see Klara/Avery's character arc concluding with them getting their gym, either on the Isle or in the Crown Tundra. The base game could even throw in an NPC saying some line of dialogue like "Kabu is planning to retire soon, I wonder who will replace him as Motostoke Gym Leader?" and by the time post-game starts Klara/Avery will be the new Gym Leader, something like that.

That would make sense as there are Gym Challenger uniforms for all of the different Pokémon types and you buy all of the ones that don’t have any Gyms associated with them and they all are colored in very particular ways. Klara and Avery’s clothing both match the color schemes for their respective Gym Uniform and designs.

Speaking about stuff being added to mainland galar, I hope the dlc does more than just add the isle of armor. Let some things in galar happen too, Maybe Hop and Sonia are doing something, maybe some side quests get added around the region, maybe Mustard visits leon after the main quest on the isle and they do something. The dlc doesn't have to be limited to the new areas.

I’m sure we will at least get new connections to Galar characters. I mean we already know Mustard trained Leon, and there’s a lot of speculation that the man in Crown Tundra is Raihan’s dad so who knows

I’ve heard the Tundra man may be Chairman Rose’s dad. A few YouTubers have speculated that and they all seem to think its because they have the same colored eyes, similar facial features, and the man is interested in Galar’s past just like Rose and is interested in digging to discover new secrets to the past. It seems like a reasonable connection.

We are so back Zygardebros
I’m kind of hoping they don’t? We have 2/3 base game rivals become Gym Leaders and would much prefer they went a different route for them

Adding these new guys as a part of the gym challenge when most won't delete their save file seems a bit silly since they'd miss out!
Yeah I just mean for the story of the game. Like you don’t actually challenge them in the gym challenge, just it is stated that their gym made it into the major division, and they become inevitable characters to the Champion Cup

The distributions leading up to the Isle of Armor's release are actually pretty good. Since I own Sword, I can get Galarian Ponyta and Corsola, which are exclusive to Shield, and evolve them into Galarian Rapidash and Cursola.

Anyone here suspecting that Galarian Slowpoke will evolve into a Psychic/Poison Slowking?
  • Klara is a Poison specialist and Avery is a Psychic specialist.
  • Galarian Slowpoke is literally given to you, and it's a Pure Psychic type. The question is... why?
  • Both new trainers seem to be featured more for Isle of Armor than the Crown Tundra.
  • Each major NPC has a Gigantimaxed Pokémon, but what if that new Galarian Slowking became the main Pokémon for both Klara and Avery?
  • Galarian Slowbro can be an Ice/Psychic Pokémon from what we can speculate, especially since there's no Galarian Shellder (still a Water/Ice Pokémon).
  • Urshifu will be part Fighting, regardless of the style you'll choose for it, so it would serve as a twist that these two can take down the Pokémon you raised.
That's just speculations, but... since Klara and Avery are version exclusive NPCs, it would be dumb to have one expansion with Klara and the other with Avery, with 2-3 months apart... and also being optional and with a price.

It was getting kind of long so I decided to put my post in spoiler tags.
No, because it’s Galarian Slowbro that is being added in the Isle of Armor while Galarian Slowking isn’t going to be added until Crown Tundra.

Also you seem to be misunderstanding something here about Klara and Avery, it’s not a case where one is exclusive to Isle of Armor and the other is exclusive to Crown Tundra.

It’s that there is two versions of each DLC and Klara is exclusive to the Sword version of Isle of Armor while Avery will be exclusive to the Shield version of the Isle of Armor while neither of them are confirmed or hinted to be in any version of Crown Tundra.

Also when you get the expansion past it gives you both Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra and there is no additional price afterwards.

Although I can see Klara and Avery both having a Galarian Slowbro if it is Psychic/Poison however I don’t think it would be their ace as it seems like important NPC has their own specific ace so their ace would likely be a different Pokémon.

I’m not sure what typing Galarian Slowking will be as we won’t find out until Crown Tundra comes out.

Which I highly doubt that Crown Tundra would come out in August, the earliest it could come out would be September however it’s probably going to come out more in October or November this is presuming there are no delays on it.

Whelps, I got that wrong ^^;

Well, that's what I pointed out. It would be ridiculous if one character were exclusive to the Ilse and the other to the Tundra, hence having both using the same Pokémon.

It hasn't the case... but I don't see why not. We could have gotten a new Ghost/Fighting Pokémon that both Bea and Alister would use as their ace Pokémon.

Okay you still don’t seem to be understanding what I’m saying so let me make this clear Klara and Avery as far as we know are not in the Crown Tundra at all.

They are only in the Isle of Armor and there are two versions of the Isle of Armor a Sword Version and a Shield version. So basically when your playing the Isle of Armor in Pokémon Sword you will be encountering Klara where as if your playing it in Pokémon Shield you will encounter Avery.

As for they could have given Bea and Allister a new Ghost/Fighting Pokémon as their ace the point is that they didn’t do that and instead chose to make sure each important NPC(excluding Piers) have their own unique ace that can Gigantamax I really don’t see any reason why that would suddenly change with Klara and Avery.

I... understood that since the reveal trailer. I was saying that it would have been ridiculous to have one trainer exclusive to the Isle and the other for the Tundra, in addition of being version exclusive. Basically, if Klara was only present in the Ilse (only for Sword) and Avery in the Tundra (only for Shield), that news wouldn't have been well-received ^^;

There's no reason why they shouldn't break that "rule", but then again, there's nothing preventing that either. Oh, and Piers gets a Toxtricity in rematches, which would have been his perfect Gigantimaxed ace to come out of his shell.

Just realized June is almost coming up and that's when Isle of Armor is being released. Weird how long it felt waiting for it and now looking at the release month, it feels so short of a wait. Weird right?

Yea, time is really flying this year.

I'm really curious how the DLC will play out. Like is it going to feel very post-game in the sense that all the trainer battles and wild encounters are going to default to around level 60? or are you going to be able to sweep through the thing with old pokemon if kubfu and all the other pokemon are low-leveled? I'm sure it'll make sense once it's out but consdering that it's an expansion to what we already have going on in the games, it leaves me a little confused as to how it will work.

My guess is that you're not allowed to use the team you've brought along for the main game and that you'll have to create a new one for use just for Isle of Armor, starting with Kubfu, which in turn is separated from non-Isle of Armor Pokémon until you accomplish your general goal. Not sure if you can get more Pokémon or not, but I am fairly certain that this is what will happen. It's the easiest way to not have to deal with player's Pokémon being at potentially all different levels.

I'm also guessing it's going to be a step up in difficulty from the main game. The incredible difficulty of that Mewtwo event, to me, indicates Game Freak has heard the complaints of Sword and Shield being too easy.

While I'm indifferent to the idea, I'm not sure if it would completely work since a lot of trainers will try to bring their Galarian Slowpoke to evolve it, while others are adamant of using new teams. They could do a compromise and make it so that you can only do the towers and the new sparring/training thingy using pokémon caught in the Isle of Armor for your first play through.
