The Isle of Armor & The Crown Tundra DLC - GENERAL DISCUSSION Thread

True enough it wouldn't be playable in gen8 competitions. It would still work online no issues. Then again I can't play competitive BC my fav mons "aren't competitively viable" so casual battles work best with them. Competitive mons are the same 15 Pokemon that 90% of the players use because they are so strong. I just can't bench the ones I like so I can make room for 4 cookie cutters.
Fair enough and I do agree about using favourites over OU etc. Its about to be a Landorus fest!

Don't worry so much about that. The gap isn't as large as some people make it seem. The fact that the same dozen or so Pokémon show up much of the time can even be used to your advantage because you'll know more about their team than they know about yours. Counterstrategies against common threats can be found in the unlikeliest of places.

I play on Ranked using teams made up only of Pokémon that aren't seen much or teams with a particular theme. I can get by, and so can you. Heck, I got plans to use a monotype team...when the Pokémon I want to have on it are made available, at least. (My plans for a Fire-type one were scuttled with the demise of Mega Evolutions though.) For now though, maybe I'll have a Bug-type team on the horizon.

Was hunting for a shiny Guzzlord in Dynamax adventures. Had done 29 attempts, with 25 successful Guzzlord captures. Was getting over it and decided I would keep it if it was either shiny or if it had 0 IV in speed. Checked my 25th Guzzlord and to my delight, it was a shiny! Then I checked its stats. 4x 31IVs and... a perfect 0 IV’s in speed. Exactly what I wanted.
The odds of that happening, a perfect 0 falling on one of the 2 non-31 IVs AND it being shiny... is 1/3 x 1/32 x 1/100...
Which is 1/9600!

Thank you Pokémon gods!

Does Synchronize actually work on the Swords of Justice Pokemon or did I just get really lucky? I've caught Cobalion and Terrakion so far and they both had the nature I wanted on the first try. I'm also wondering if it works on the Regis (or if running/soft resetting for them will allow you to go for the correct nature or if they're like the birds where the nature seems to be determined right away as soon as you enter the Wild Area).

I think it actually does work because of how they are programmed to appear.

I got my Terrakion to be Adamant, so there's that.

Nice, I'm assuming that it will work on Keldeo then too once I get to that point. I don't know why they decided to make it stop working on legendaries this generation. I don't like being forced to use mints.

I have to say that I really like the new raid battles...... The thing I like most about it is the fact that we use Pokemon randomly

I was wondering, was Calyrex the one who defeated Eternatus? In one of the clues in the DLC it says that Calyrex saved the Pokemon from a meteor hitting the earth and defeated a Pokemon which retracted its arms and retreated. We all know that Eternatus came from a meteor and in its Gigantamax form it is a giant hand. Can anyone clarify this?

No, the lore is pretty clear that Zacian and Zamazenta were the ones who defeated Eternatus.

The Pokedex entries for Calyrex mention:

It’s said that this Pokémon once moved a large forest—and all the Pokémon living there—to a new location overnight.
Legend says that by using its power to see all events from past to future, this Pokémon saved the creatures of a forest from a meteorite strike.

So that's all the info we really have pertaining to it.

Oh, I am talking about this image that floated in 4chan:

Maybe Calyrex helped Zacian and Zamazenta beat Eternatus?

I erased my previous comment because I wasn’t thinking. They likely mean that they caught the legendary and decided not to keep it which allows you to catch another one.

Pokemon: What are we going to do! The City of Wyndon is threatening our homes!
Calyrex: I have an idea. I should take the Crown Tundra and push it somewhere else!

That image has nothing to do with Eternatus.

There's also a part 2 that was omitted:

From the second part we can clearly infer the Visitor in question is Calyrex. So no, it is unlikely that Calyrex had anything to do with the fight with Eternatus.

Oh bummer, I was really hoping Calyrex was going to be the Odin of Pokemon and one of the Pokemon that was incredibly strong in the past. I feel he still helped during the "The Darkest Day" maybe while Zacian and Zamazenta were fighting Eternatus, Calyrex was escorting the Pokemon from the forest where Eternatus crash landed.

Yes it works on all 4 swords of justice. Used a Munna myself to get 3 Jolly and a Timid. It doesn’t work on the new Regis or the new bird forms, or on Calyrex and the horses. I was lazy and didn’t bother testing the old Regis though.

After checking it each time to see if I was shiny, I chose not to keep it, (either kept something else or nothing at all), which means it respawns again and the lady will retain the memory of where it is so you can keep choosing it.

We could really use something to set an IV to its minimum too. I had to breed a Pokémon on a Generation VII game because I wanted to have something in its Alolan form AND a 0 IV in Speed (that evolves from a non-Alolan form), but it would take a mountain of soft-resetting in Sword and Shield to pull off.

Calyrex WAS stronger a long time ago. It's just that "save Galar from Eternatus" was not on his list of accomplishments.

The fact that Calyrex lost most of his power is a major driving force for his plot, since said loss of power also caused his steed to go wild again and eventually rendered most of the Crown Tundra's land unsuitable for growing crops.

yeah, just going off gen6 battles i did fairly well against what would be a hard team to beat but i do have some common type weaknesses but thats normal. gen7 killed my battling with Z nukes and i did have some good battles out there as my team was an unknown quantity so the surprise factor was there for wins. i just havent tried playing online in gen8 so far for some reason. life gets in the way and things in games dont always happen.

though in general a proper team usually is a hard challenge once they know all the surprises.

It's best 1 out of 1--if they ever figure out your surprises, by the timer that happens, the battle is already over and you'll never see them again. (Besides, that's why I make a lot of teams.)

If you played online in Generation VII, you'll know the deal with Generation VIII. The culture isn't much different. But if you don't have time to do so, that's fine too. It bugs me how the ranks drop 2 stages each month, so I can't just not play for a month.

Is it me losing count or do the number of available raid battles increase as you complete more? I swear I had 7 in the tundra to begin with including the rare raid but now I definitely count eight

You! Me! Rivals! Yes?
In the last week my opinion on Dynamax Adventures has really soured, I used to think they were great, but now I've decided I really don't like them. It took me seven attempts to catch Kyogre, and once I did successfully catch it I didn't feel happy about it, because of how many unsuccessful attempts I had to go through before I finally got lucky. I'm up to my ninth loss against Zygarde, seriously, how the Hell are you supposed to beat Power Construct Zygarde when it tanks every hit and Land's Wrath knocks the whole team out in one go? It doesn't help that the AI keeps giving you rental Pokemon that Zygarde does well against. Necrozma was a level 3 Weedle compared to this!
