Doctor Sleep - Creepy at times, but I was very disappointed by the third act. It was anticlimactic to say the least. Liked the book ending much more.

One positive from the movie though, it showed that Jack's alcoholism was in part what drove him crazy, same as his son, Dan. It put that across a bit more effectively than the book did, in my opinion.

Overall I give it a 6/10, in terms of everything, including the story; 8/10 if I just included the tension, acting and special effects.

Swiss Family Robinson (1960)

Fun old adventure movie made by Disney, similar feel to their adaption of 20,000 Leagues under the Sea.

It's not a literal adaption of every scene from the book, but the movie still manages to capture the right feel. Also, good FX work, on par or better than a lot of stuff done today.

An anomaly
Casino Royale. First time watching it. Finally got around to watching this 007 movie through a recommendation. I liked it! There were numerous times in which I was on the edge of my seat like when Bond got poisoned and when he lost in the first round of poker.

The Gentleman - 8/10 pretty entertaining. Certainly one of his better films. A bit silly but done with a degree of style and charm. I though Colin Farrell was pretty good and compared to the last few Charlie Hunnan films this was very good performance. Hugh Grant's character was amusingly silly and the premise of him reciting the story worked well for me. Solidly entertaining.

Scoob! - 8/10

Really liked this movie. Could relate to Shaggy at the beginning of the movie and it was well worth the watch. Full of fun, action-adventure and heart.

The Meg

Runs through the plots of The Abyss, Jaws, & a generic monster movie in that order.

Trial of Lee Harvey Oswald, Larry Buchanan, 1964

Docudrama Purporting to examine the evidence against Oswald in a fictional jury trial. Starts out feeling rather weighty, but drags on & becomes as fun as real jury duty. Some nice old-time shots of Dallas. At the end of the movie an attorney comes out & says Oswald was most likely going to be convicted. The evidence may have been circumstantial, but it was strong. Decent acting, tho the prosecutor was a bit hammy & some witnesses were a bit wooden. Occasional editing goofs; characters looking the wrong way after a camera angle change, etc.

Buchanan could’ve become a good director, but from what I’ve seen he got worse with each movie he made.

Captain Jigglypuff

*On Vacation. Go Away!*
The Child’s Play reboot. It’s pretty interesting and is an example of why Mark Hamill is so much better as a voice actor than one that is seen on screen. His Chucky is sort of like his version of the Joker except a bit more friendly and not as insane. I like how the movie stands out on its own and the kills are certain better than the first movie which were extremely tame even for the 80s when Jason was smashing sleeping bags with a teenage girl against a tree and Freddy killed a teenager by making him fuse with the motorcycle he was riding and forcing it to crash. The idea of a robotic toy becoming glitched and out to kill humans may not be original but making him be able to control any electronic made by the same company that made him is. This is like Siri suddenly getting awareness and free will and causing your iPad to explode and in the process somehow merge with your Roomba and cause it to rip your foot off by running over it and using the suction to pop it off.

Rings - Bit late for Halloween, but hopefully not too late.

Lacks the slow build & suspense of the 1st one. Surprise antagonist was a cliche.

Wouldn’t recommend it, but it was an ok way to spend the afternoon.

“Island at the Top of the World“

Fun old Disney movie, similar to “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” Lots of neat, but obvious, matte work. I think the FX in “20,000 Leagues” were better.
