The Legend of Heroes! Leon's Ultimate Battle! (1116)

Just realized Leon's took on 2 dragon specialists with a pokémon that isn't a dragon (not counting the X mega evolution).

Georgia would be a fan if Charizard didn't look like a dragon.

Careful? Where's the fun in that?
It's not just love of battles for why I inquired that Ash had a chance of getting G-Farfetch'd... it's the fact that's the only way of getting Sirfetch, which is why in the episode speculation thread I asked how much the staff wanted that. Since Ash did in fact get it, apparently Sirfetch is gonna play a role after all.

That being said, looking back I also figured Go might have gotten it because I was sure the writing staff didn't want to overshadow Riolu yet... not only did the episode prove that probably won't happen, I'm actually excited to see two different Fighting types with different styles battle.

Yeah looking at this poster, we got a least one hint Ash was getting Galarian Farfetch'd but it's still unexpected to me, nice new catch for Ash tho! Go is probably getting Sobble next week and there will be tons of salt, whatever lol.

Leon and Raihan are strong, Sonia and Rose debut and Ash proclaiming he will be the one that beats Leon, great episode and so much HYPE!!

Almost half of the episode went to the gym battle between Raihan & Leon with Ash as a spectator from a massive gym that he's going to challenge Leon again in the future loudly. Sonia is there too and she's into Pokemon long ears apparently. As in the games she explained the history of Galar with the hero.

Galarian Farfetch'd personality fits with its look and I expected it to defeat Go's Farfetch'd especially with its massive leek, even though Go's Pokemon got defeated for just being thrown away instead of a hard physical hit or a throw into the ground. I like the way it wanted to challenge others in a battle, as it doesn't look aggressive as a wild Pokemon and just like to battle. Oh, and Riolu's persistence to keep going is cool too.

Nice episode, especially it's about Galar and some of its characters which are fresh in the anime to me.
Go is probably getting Sobble next week and there will be tons of salt, whatever lol.
Yeah, judging by the poster's Pokemon alignment it is most likely. I wouldn't mind if Sobble would get itself busy in the future and not ended up barely doing anything like Raboot so far.

This episode left me feeling both satisfied and disappointed. I was satisfied because we got to see multiple characters make their debut, a good battle, and Ash getting a new capture. However, I feel disappointed because it's almost guaranteed that Go will be the one to catch Sobble, and I really wanted Ash to get one.

Almighty Zard

He has returned.
I expect Goh's duck to steal it.

yeah let's see it try that and fail to lift it.

abit of interesting dialogue at the end of the episode, that I would like for someone who know Japanese or a mod to confirm.

something along the lines of "will go who didn't get anything today, still catch something in the galar region?" and then in comes Sobble right afterwards.

Too old for your rubbish..
Ah, this episode made me so happy in so many ways..

Ash got the Farfetch'd, so that's a bonus straight off the bat.. and to make the capture that much better, it knows TWO dark type moves which include Night Slash, so that should shut a few people up! Then of course we got to see the results of Riolu's training, which was just incredible. It's so nice to see that it's so quickly becoming a viable team member! We got to see how Steel Beam is used, which 100% won't look good coming from a Lucario in the anime, so the chances of Ash's eventual Lucario ending up with the move plummeted, thank god (not that there was much chance anyway)! Oh and to top it off, Chairman Rose and Sonia showed up, with the latter explaining the Darkest Day, so at least we now know that they're going down that route.

The only thing that let it down was the g-max battle, but again Leon showed that he only gains the upper hand during dynamax battles, after taking a beating and Charizard's moves getting overpowered, pre-max..

You’d think a master class battle would be at least 3v3 and not 1v1 which makes the past two battles with Leon so underwhelming/boring especially knowing that the outcome is predictable

Guess I'll give my thoughts on the actual battle. It's interesting that Charizard upgraded its moveset since episode 12. Maybe it will be different during each of Leon's future matches up to Ash

Ash hasn't had a mon with the same type as another member of his team sense X/Y *Goodra / Noivern* and even then I don't really count it sense that situation seemed to come out of nowhere *ash only had 5 pokemon up into the pokemon league which implies the anime team didn't really think his team through.* So..... Gen 5 *Snivy / Leavanny * Basically, I'm saying I wasn't expecting G - Farfetch'd at all. Not gonna lie, I kinda like it. I like G - Farfetch'd. I like the Night Slash reference *Cross-road kill is it's Japanese name which is when people would test out new or resharpened swords on random passerby in the middle of the night* and I don't think any of Ash's mons have been as battle crazed as G - Farfetch'd. I like it. It's an interesting addition. I'm not gonna lie though, I'm still expecting Sobble to be Ash's. I know this anime has a habit of breaking trends but it just seems weird that Ash'll have no starter pokemon while his traveling companion will have several.

As for the rest of the episode. I wasn't expcting Leon's Charizard to have switched almost it's entire moveset between battles. They must have some crazy training thing going on to be able to pull that off. *or maybe they have tms / trs in the anime too* Other than that the battle was kinda eh.... Still not a fan of 1v1 battles in master class. Battles to decide the very best of the best trainers in the entire world are 1v1s but regional tournaments are 6v6 / 3vs3 *Alola* in the finals. I don't care for it. I have nothing of note to say about Sonia or Rose. They're in the episode. There ya go

7 / 10

Edit: I saw the poster up above me in posts. If it's anything to go by, every mon on the right is ash's and every mon on the left is Goh's. Sobble is on the left so...... yea.
