The Legend of Steel Blade

Though this story isn't exactly a "fan fiction," it is a small story I'm writing. I assume it would be appropriate to post it here. I currently have 14 episodes done, but I shall post but one a day.

Our story takes place 1000 years from now, but the Legend takes place while we speak. Through me, you shall hear the stories that surround a planet far off, in the exact opposite area of the great sphere of the universe. The planet called Syphopia, of which the animals much resemble our own. A planet where humans are the main life forms, but with 1 big difference. Cabinets in their bodies can be focused to expel gasses from their bodies, gasses that create what they know as “the elements.” Fire, Water, Volt and Ice, the basic elements, are normally mastered at the age of 13. As time goes on, the gasses can be focused to form new elements, some of which will not be discovered for thousands of years. Before we jump 1000 years into the future of this planet, let’s see what’s going on this very second.

The Legend of Steel Blade
Episode 1: Karr and Garth

Only in 2nd grade, a hero is soon to be realized. Nick Harpman, or as he’ll soon be known, the legendary Steel Blade. He was alone in the park with his family. At such a young age, he was the only kid there to have mastered the element of fire. It’s a good thing, too, because evil lurked around the corner. Gas bars surrounded and sublimated to form prisons for the adults. From seemingly nowhere, a vile fiend known as Gaezman came forth. He was pure gas in humanoid form with deep black eyes. He tortured young kids for his own amusement, the sick *******. All the kids were helpless, as they had not mastered any of their powers yet. One, as you know, had, however. Very bravely for his age, Steel Blade showered the monster with balls of fire, destroying him and his hardened bars. At such a young age, he was already considered a hero. After that, he got recruited into the team known as the Super Team, or STeam. There, he was trained hard, surpassed everyone, and when he turned 12, was allowed to go out on his own to save Syphopia.

1000 years later. Steel Blade is a legend for all his missions, and his sword is on display in a museum, located in the mountain-filled region known as Infron. Not far from the museum is a school, where a new year is about to begin. Busy enough as he was, Geralm Tang moved there for a new job with more hours and pay. His wife Julia and son Karr moved there with him, of course. Karr, 16 years old, is soon to start the new school year at that school. These days, combat is considered a sport. There are belts that create a barrier on the person, which only makes sure no bones are broken, organs crushed or deaths come about. The barrier is skin tight to make sure the fighters can still feel pain. All weapons get teleported through the barrier, but the person still feels their effect. It’s a perfectly safe sport that hurts like hell, perfect! When enough damage is dealt, the loser will glow red and the winner will glow blue. In a draw, they both grow yellow. Combat class is an elective at most schools, and Karr’s decided to take it this year.

“Karr! Wake up, sweety! It’s your first day of school!” As much as his mom called him to come down, he just slept on. “KARR! GET YOUR SORRY *** DOWN HERE THIS INSTANT!” He still slept. She always had to do “it” on the first day of school. She walked up to her son’s room, 5’8”, her short brown hair neatly combed down, a blue suit on, a ball of volt resting in her right hand. She threw it at her son, shocking him enough to get him right out of bed, half nudity and all. 5’11”, short black hair currently a mess, lines under his eyes so visible it looks like someone drew on them with sharpie.

“Wha?” he said, half asleep inside but awake as ever outside. “School, who? Ahh…” He thought for a second. “School!” His mom threw some clothes and a towel at him.

“Shower, get dressed, grab your backpack and get the hell downstairs. We’re running it close as it is.”

“Yes mom, of course.” He quickly showered and changed. Double checking his backpack one final time, he ran downstairs in a black shirt with flames on it and wearing black jeans. His hair was no longer a mess, but neatly spiked up. His eyes still had some lines under it, but it’s 6:30 in the morning, what’d you expect? He ran outside just in time to make it to the bus and was off to his first day at a new school.

“Read page 25-36 tonight as homework,” Mr. Ure said just as the bell rang. Math, check. Science, check. Next class was Combat! Karr excitedly rushed to the combat room. There were rooms there that could generate full on arenas when turned on. Combat Belts lined the walls, each with their own patterns. A list of all known elements were on a chart on one wall. The teacher was a tall female with long blonde hair. She wore a deep blue shirt and blue jeans, both very tight to allow for mobility. Karr would’ve liked the shirt to be a little less tight. More students piled in as the bell rang.

“Good morning class,” the teacher said. “Welcome to day 1 of Combat Class. I’ll be your teacher for the year, Mrs. Peterson. Throughout the year I will be teaching you how to fight efficiently in all situations. If you start to cry, you will face me. If you get too cocky, you will face me. If you goof around, you will face me. If you don’t do your homework, YOU WILL FACE ME! I will not hold back, I will set our life to the highest possible, and I will use my most painful moves on you. Why? Because I have permission to do so! IS THAT CLEAR?!?!” Scared half to death, the class replied in unison.

“Yes ma’am. Perfectly clear.” They all said the same thing because those exact words were written on the blackboard. The most fun class with the single meanest teacher in the school. Damn I wish I were in this story. After some time making sure everyone knew the basic elements, Mrs. Peterson wanted to see how everyone fought. They were randomly assigned pairs for the battle. Karr was teamed up with Garth Jeroman. He was a little shorter than Karr with long blonde hair doing down over his face. He wore a plain gray shirt and blue jeans.

“You will all begin with a random arena,” Mrs. Peterson told them. “Later this week you’ll be getting a manual with all the arenas in it, and after that you may choose. But until then, it’s random. You’re being recorded, so don’t hold back. Begin when your arena tells you to.” Karr’s arena formed around him. Both him and Garth were standing on rock pillars with cliffs on all sides and sharp rocks in a body of water under them. The arena said simply.

“Go.”

The belts flashed on and Garth made the first move. He shot from his hands at the bottom of the rock below Karr a beam of fire. Seeing that the rock was about to melt, Karr jumped off and grabbed onto the cliff behind him. He shot a stream of water at Garth, causing him to lose his balance. He fell off, landing hard on a flat rock beneath him. Taking advantage of his foe’s pain, Karr shot a jet of ice at him. Never had he seen an ice attack that powerful. However, he had mastered a move perfect for countering it.

“Unleash Light Barrier!” By screaming this, Garth had formed a shield of the light element, one that could reflect any move that was dark or cold. Ice is cold. The huge blast was reflected right back. Before it hit, Karr shot 2 more streams out, one of fire and one of volt. They hit each other right on the flat rock underneath Garth. The ice reflection then hit. Garth went flying, Karr went plummeting. If Karr hit the shallow water at this speed, he’d lose all his life. If Garth hit the cliff behind himself at his speed, he’d lose. It was all down to luck and time, and Karr was the one who was going to lose.

“AAGGHH!” He screamed as he got very near the water. His hands were pointed downward. Garth was confused, what was he up to? Turning his feet straight down, Karr hit the water… but it was solid. His fall was broken by a strip of ice that had somehow appeared. He then crashed through, taking almost no damage.

“HOW?!” Garth yelled as he went crashing into the wall. The students who had already finished, the teacher, and himself were all wondering how Karr pulled it off. It was warm water, an invisible ice stream would be too weak to freeze over the entire body of water. The remnants from his older ice attack couldn’t pull that off either. His victory itself seemed near impossible to happen, but there it was, laid out, possible, happened. The arena faded away and the 2 of them stepped out.

“Amazing,” Mrs. Peterson said. “Don’t let this go to your head, but how did you pull that amazing feat off? It doesn’t make sense!”

“A man’s gotta have secrets, ma’am,” Karr replied, smiling. Given the assignment to do some tests to find their best element as homework, the class was dismissed. It was time for lunch, and another life changing event for Karr.

Maylan.

The Legend of Steel Blade
Episode 2: Friends

The alarm sounded, and STeam was in action. Steel Blade was sent on his first true mission with Chris and Claire, both young adults. They arrived at an old pyramid. Upon entering, they were immediately sealed in. Poisonous gasses filled the place, and the source wasn’t far. With some amazing deciphering, Steel Blade figured out the hieroglyphics on the walls and found The Lord of Poison. He was simple 1 of the 10 Evil Lords that were attempting to take over Syphopia. Claire shot arrows of pure fire at the gas monster, but all went right through him. He struck back by sending small puffs of gas with eyes, called Gaz, after them. Thousands of little balls appeared and struck. Chris and Claire took them all down, but were out of energy. Steel Blade had thought ahead, however, and conserved his energy by letting the weaker ones kill the weaker ones. Now he stepped forward to take on The Lord of Poison.

And it was time for lunch. Karr entered with his brown sack and no friends. He didn’t know where he was going to sit, so he decided to just look around. Surly he’d find a spot eventually. He turned his head to look around and ran into someone. A large piece of pizza slammed down onto his lap. He lifted it off to find sauce staining his pants.

“Oh my God, I am so sorry. Oh my, oh my. Xander, get some napkins. Oh my God, I’m so sorry, are you hurt? I’m so clumsy. Please forgive me. Don’t be mad. Oh my God are you breathing? Wait, it’s only pizza. What do I mean only, that’ll never fully come out! I’m so so so so so so so sorry!!!” The voice came from above. It was small, cute, concerned. Karr stood up and say her for the first time. Long dirty-blonde hair, beautiful blue eyes, purple tank top covered partially by her dark blue jacket. Baggy, light purple pants and black shoes finished her off. She was way shorter than Karr, maybe around 5’3”.

“Don’t worry,” he said. “It’s okay, just a little pizza stain.”

“Are you sure? It’s not that bad? You sure you can get it out? Dammit, you’ll have to spend all day with that, I…” A fish gently bopped her in the head, and while gently, she nearly fell over. Karr looked at the bopper. Shoulder-length blonde hair, and he wasn’t too sure he could say she was wearing clothes. Half her stomach was showing under her sleeveless green shirt. Her legs were almost not covered up at all by her blue plaid mini-skirt.

“Maylan, you’ve said enough. I think you’re just scaring the poor thing now.” Napkins then appeared in front of him, held by a more masculine hand. He turned and saw yet another person. This one, a guy. His hair was long for a guy’s, just covering his ears, and jet black. You couldn’t see his eyes very well. He had on a black shirt and baggy black jeans. His shoes were black, but had lines of pink on them.

“Take these only if you need them. If you’ve mastered water and fire, however, feel free to clean yourself. I can tell you’re new here, or you’d have paid more attention to your surroundings.” Karr wet his spot down with water, and while the fire was drying, got introduced to these new people. “I’m Xander. That girl responsible for your incident is Maylan, the Queen of Apologies.” She waved. “The little tough one over there is Jessica.” She flipped him off. “And the one who’s not talking is Caya.” He then noticed the girl with short brown hair, a brown shirt and blue jeans standing behind Maylan. His pants finally dried.

“I’ve got to make it up to you,” Maylan said, quickly and concerningly. “Um… uh… er…”

“Since you’re new, you don’t know many people,” Xander pointed out. “Here’s a nice apology gift, sit with us. Heck, if we like you, we may even start to consider you a friend.” He laughed slightly. “Let’s go, ****tard.”

“Don’t be mean!” Maylan protested. “He’s new here, at least be nice until we have him brain washed into liking you!” This went on all lunch. Karr was really starting to like this school.

The bell dismissing 6th period rang, and Karr was free. He saw Caya outside, wandering around oddly. He called to her. “Caya! Hey!” She only looked at him. She walked over and answered quietly.

“Hey. I’m just, uh, waiting for the others.” Karr waited for her to say more, but nothing came. He was about to try to spark conversation, when a ball of water splashed the back of his head. He turned around to get another right in the face.

“Heh, not bad,” Xander said, dropping his 3rd ball. Accompanying him were Maylan and Jessica. “Come, we’re going down to Zack’s.

“Who’s Zack?” Karr asked.

“A restaurant,” Jessica told him. “We go there every day after school, that is, if we don’t have too much homework or there’s no school tomorrow. Only homework we’ve got in the group is Xander and Maylan’s combat homework, which they had done before it was assigned. You have money, right?” Karr checked his wallet. In there was 1 blue bill and 3 red coins.

“390 syphops,” he replied. Syphops were the currency on Syphopia. 200 Syphops is 1 American dollar. Basically, divide everything in half and the last 2 numbers are cents. “What would that get me?”

“A burger or a drink, not enough for both,” Maylan said. “I have a little extra money on me. With my usual order aside, I can give you 300 more syphops.” She took out of her pocket a blue bill and handed it to him.

“Thanks, I’ll pay you back…”

“Consider it payback for ruining your pants.” It was true. After wetting and drying, there was still a huge pizza spot, right on the crotch. It was rather embarrassing, but there’s worse kinds of attention that can be paid there. “Come on, let’s go.”

Zack was a scary old man. He had short, black, messy hair. He had brown, dirty overalls and a white undershirt on his very skinny body. His nose was huge, his face thin, and an eye patch over the right eye. All over his face were scars and stitches. While skinny as a scarecrow, he had muscle. I at least hope he makes good food. “Aye, me favorite customers!” he said. “If it iin’t Maylan. Me ol’ girl, what can I get ye?” His eye caught me. “And who be this youngyin’? New friend? Stalker? One of Tri-“

“Friend,” Caya said quickly, as if to completely interrupt what he was about to say. “He’s not a stalker, and he has no reason to know about ‘them.’” Karr was scared now. What was she talking about?

“The usual for us,” Maylan ordered. “As for Karr, he’ll try one of your special burgers and a milkshake.” The food was great, Karr enjoyed every second of it. Everyone then had to go home, Except Maylan.

“I’m gonna get going,” Karr said. As he walked off, she ran up to him.

“I don’t gotta go home for a while,” she said shyly. “Mind if I, um, walk with you?”

Karr smiled. “Not at all.” After walking a little ways, a shuriken flung from the sky. There, in a tree, stood a figure dressed in a body covering black outfit. “Holy ****, is that a ninja?” the figure threw many more shuriken at the pair. Karr pushed Maylan out of the way of a stream of the weapons, then jumped up into the tree. He created a ball of fire, then rapidly shot them at the ninja. He countered, however, by simply spinning a kunai knife.

“Triangle Power!” The ninja called. In one hand he created fire, in the other water, and above them, dead center to form a triangle-like connect-the-dots, was a black element. Darkness. He squished the fire and water into the darkness and created a red, blue and black flashing ball of energy. “Tri-Ball, fire!” The new compound went flying at Karr. He only smiled. Then, sticking out his arms, focused hard. The ball stopped.

“What goes around, comes around.” Karr ran up and pushed the frozen ball back. The ninja stared blankly.

“How would you… what element could possibly…” The ball hit, and the ninja was sent flying back, slammed into a tree and, scared half to death, ran off.

Maylan walked Karr all the way home. They talked about normal things the entire time, mainly to get to know each other. When Karr started walking up his porch, she grabbed his arm.

“Karr, that element that froze the ball back there, what was that?” She asked it slightly worried, mostly curious. He just smiled.

“Let’s just say, not many humans can muster it.” They both smiled. Feeling uncomfortable, Maylan waved goodbye and went on her way.

Karr spent that night in bed unable to sleep, thinking about his new friends. The punk Xander, the shy one Caya, the **** Jessica and the concerned one Maylan. Some friends don’t always work out as planned, however. As Karr would soon learn, sometimes it’s best to fly solo.

The Legend of Steel Blade
Episode 3: School Champion

Charging up a ton of fire energy, Steel Blade went rapid fire on the Lord of Poison. The monster simply opened his mouth and swallowed all the energy. He swished it around then spat it back out as a huge stream of flames, right at Steel Blade. Thinking fast, he created a large, spherical barrier of water. As the fire hit, it steamed out. This was just what the Lord of Poison wanted. He reached out his huge, gassy hand and grabbed the fumes, growing several inches. There was only 1 chance left. Steel Blade ran towards the poisonous beast. The monster just reached out his right hand to catch the hero. Smiling, Steel Blade created a sword made of pure water and slashed the Lord of Poison before he could react. The water washed away the solidity keeping the monster together. The Lord of Poison literally melted. Where he once stood was now a purple stone. These stones were dangerous. There were 30 in all, and anyone who places all of them in one spot gets a sword so powerful, it’s said to be able to destroy anything. Picking up the stone, Steel Blade, Chris and Claire returned to STeam base.

“He then froze the ninja’s Triangle thingy and pushed it back at him! It was so amazing!” Blushing, Karr was relieved Maylan had finished telling her story. He wasn’t embarrassed by the event, more by the way she was retelling the story.

“Wow, defeated a professional fighter,” Xander said, amazed. He looked at Karr. “Where exactly did you move from? You seem way too strong for your age.”

“I come from the Sandel region,” he explained. “We basically live for fighting there…”

“Cut that ********. You’re hiding something. No one has ever been able to master the ice element like that. How did you learn how to do that?”

“Freeze,” said a voice from behind. Short, cool, Garth stepped forward. “It’s an element known as the freeze element. It’s in the AO Class, Advanced Opposing. It’s the counter element to the advanced element of Darkness. Very few humans can pull it off, let alone master it.” Everyone was now staring at the 2 of them, but Caya seemed most interested. “I looked it up after that humiliated defeat you handed me, last year’s school champion all 10 months. I’m impressed you could master such a feat. Today, after school, you and me. Winner is the September School Champion.” He walked off, looking confident and cocky.

“The freeze element?” Jessica asked. “What the hell is that? I sure haven’t heard of it.”

“Oh my god, we didn’t hear something we shouldn’t have, did we?” Maylan said, nervously. “Dammit, it’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have brought up the story. I can’t believe this happened. I swear I won’t tell anyone else. Oh damn, Garth’s gonna tell everyone. Oh **** oh **** oh **** oh-“ Jessica balled her hand into a fist and bonked the top of Maylan’s head.

“We’ve gotta beef you up,” she said. Jessica was in Karr’s Combat Class. “Combat and lunch, you and I are training for this. You’ve got to be in top condition for this. Garth is an extremely powerful fighter. Last year he never lost 1 fight. Since you’ve beaten him, he’ll probably go all out, which means he’ll use his favorite element a ton, light. Light has an advantage against all colder elements, so be warned. Oh, and if he chooses a course called Vortex, refuse. It’s his best one.”

“How much DO you know about combat?”

They trained all throughout the day. They went over Garth’s strategies, his strengths, his weaknesses, and so on. By the time school was out, Karr was well ready to take him on, or at least as ready as he’d ever be.

“Where is he?” Garth asked his friends as he put on his black combat robe. “Heh, looks as though he knows he can’t win. Ha ha ha!”

“There!” One of his friends yelled. Sure enough, there walked Karr, right towards the arena. He was smiling in a way that just screamed ‘I’m gonna kick your ***.’

“I’m gonna kick your ***,” Karr said. “I’ve been training all day, and there’s no way you can win!” Almost the entire school was gathered around the outside arena. It was currently but a black platform with plastic casing, but once the holograms turned on, it would be much more. The two of them walked into opposite corners of the arena. They went to the center, shook hands, then returned. The crowd cheered.

“Here’s how it works,” Garth said. “As the new guy, you get to pick the arena. If you don’t know of any you want, though, you may say ‘random,’ then the main computer will randomly choose you one. Once we close these doors, all sound will be blocked. We won’t hear them, they won’t hear us. That means we won’t know who they’re cheering for, and most importantly, they won’t interrupt our battle. Our belts are set at 1000% Life, meaning we’ll last a long time. Like always, red glow means you lose, blue glow means you win. So, shall we start?”

“We shall,” Karr replied. “Random arena!” The doors slammed shut and a robotic voice spoke.

“Randomization processing. Scanning possible choices. Choices selected. Filtering request only arenas. Filtering complete. Randomly selecting card…” There was a pause. “Aarag Volcano. Good luck, battlers.” The arena transformed. The floor turned into rock as the combatants shrunk. Cracks formed in the rock and seeped lava as a volcano rose in the center. Forming around it were many smaller volcanoes. The cracks seeped enough lava to soon cover the entire ground, so the two both quickly rushed onto a mountain. “Combat: BEGIN.’

Garth started off the fighting by creating a sword of volt and charging around the volcanoes, just trying to find his opponent. As he passed the mouth of one, a rope of pure fire wrapped itself around his ankle. Using this as a lever, Karr pulled himself out of the mouth and Garth right in. As he fell in, however, he created a shield of water. Steam filled the general area, Karr fell flat on his face, and it was impossible to see. Then, through the pitch black smoke, there was a light. It came closer… closer… closer…

Garth’s light sword slashed across Karr’s face, sending him flying to the side into another volcano. Garth laughed. “Ha ha ha! Face it, newbie, no one can defeat me! Best of all, we’re fighting in a fiery arena, so both of your best elements, Ice and Freeze, are useless!”

Karr got back up and jumped from the cliff he was embedded in. “Ice is useless here, yes, but I think you underestimate the power of freeze.” Holding his arms out, he put most his energy into one freeze attack. Garth laughed and jumped over Karr to land behind him. Now it was Karr’s turn to laugh. “Gotcha.” A purple spider rose from the ground and latched itself onto Garth. “A summoning, an attack only able to be used by the most skilled at an element. It takes all my concentration, as I’m new at it, but what matters is that you’re immobilized.” The spider was melting fast, but for the time being, Garth was defenseless. Creating a sword of fire, he slashed at Garth many times.

“That’s enough!” he yelled. “Light Shield!” The spider just finished melting away, and a dome of light spread across the arena, pushing Karr back with it. “Combine with fire to form Exploding Barricade!” Fire traveled through the dome until the entire thing was flaming. It then exploded. Karr was slammed into the clear wall that separated the outside from the arena. No time to look, he got up and created a ball of freeze.

“You’re not the only one with a special attack,” he yelled.

“But mine are the best!” Garth replied, following the voice to find Karr. He charged.

“Frozen Tidal Wave!” Karr formed a ball of water in the other hand and combined the two. He then held out his hands and a huge wave of pure, dark ice went surging forward, towards Garth.

“Holy ****, how can you perform an attack that huge? You are obviously no normal battler!” The wave slammed into him, knocking him downward. He only had one hope left. He looked out the clear wall. “Oh my God,” he said. “Maylan, MAYLAN!”

Hook, line, sinker. Karr turned around quickly, in pure fear for his friend. He saw her standing there, perfectly fine. Angry from this trick, Karr turned around, only to find Garth’s light sword slashing right across his face. The heat from the sword burnt his face. The pain was too much, he went to his stomach. Garth and laughed and kicked him, sending him right into the puddle of lava at the bottom. Karr screamed as he burnt in the lava, but he was hurt too bad. He couldn’t get out. That dirty trick… a mind game, a key part of combat. Karr was hoping for a clean fight, Garth apparently just wanted to win. He jumped down at Karr, his light sword held high. With one final slash across the face, Karr screamed louder still. He collapsed, but the lava was gone. Garth was glowing blue, Karr was glowing red.

The battle was over.
