NOTE: I know relise there are many Zelda Fan-Fics out there but I feel this one to be slightly different as it is set at the end of the Zelda timeline, about 500 years after The Wind Waker. This means there will be some spoilers abotu the ending of the Wind Waker for anyone who is yet to play the game.

The Legend of
ZELDA
The Hero of Light

Prologue

The blade sunk down into Ganondorf’s head like a man in quicksand and Link flipped off the Gerudo’s shoulders, landing swiftly on his feet. Swords crashed to the ground and Ganondorf fell to his feet. Both Link and Zelda backed away as they gazed in awe at their greatest enemy. With the sword of evil’s bane wedged directly to his forehead, Ganondorf breathed heavily, eyes fixed on the blade. Link and Zelda both looked at each other. Was he dead? Was the threat of all the peoples from long ago, dead? Ganondorf stayed completely frozen. He couldn’t move. From his feet upwards, Ganondorf’s body started to become solid as a rock. In fact, Zelda had looked down and, to her horror; Ganondorf’s body was turning to stone. The grey submersion began to take over Ganondorf’s body until only his head was left. In his last moments, Ganondorf looked at Link, his eyes piercing into the back of Link’s head. Link stared back and saw deep into Ganondorf, seeing the hatred, the power and the despair, then…

Nothing.

Ganondorf, the enemy of all was dead. All that was left of him was a statue, as a reminder to all of what once was.

~~250 Years Later~~

With Ganondorf a myth on the wind, the people of the small islands carried on their daily lives. As time went on, the beaches of the islands grew, with the great sea becoming smaller and smaller. The people of the islands journeyed down as the seas subsided and found remains of an ancient kingdom. One only the eldest of elders had heard about in legend. The people began to make settlements in this new kingdom and slowly people moved away from the islands all together. The towering castle of the kingdom, now named Hyrule after the kingdom in legends, became home to the great Kings and Queens for many a centenary and all was well for the people of Hyrule and it’s surrounding towns.

~~200 Years Later~~

With King Mourn at the throne, Hyrule has never been so prosperous. Total harmonisation exists between the Zoras, the Hylians, the Rito and the Picori. Children play in the fields, unafraid of what once was. However, not all is well. The elders of the kingdom worry for King Mourn’s son, Prince Danet. He is troublesome, unlike his father and uses his power over the common folk excessivly. When it is his turn to rule, will the new Hyrule reach is darkest time? For now, the people do not worry. Why worry about the future when the present is so perfect?

~~50 Years Later~~

King Danet has turned the once prosperous land into a dark kingdom, full of evil and suffering. He has turned Hyrule Castle into a playground of torture and the races of Hyrule have turned against each other. The Rito have returned to the mountains, the Zoras to the remaining seas and lakes, the Picori to the forests and the Hyrulians either work for King Danet or have been exciled to the surrounding villages. Danet has recently been employing dark troops such as pig like creatures to perform his evil deeds. All of this evil behaviour has lead to him earning the name of “the Dark Prince” as none consider him a real king. With Hyrule in despair and at it’s darkest, the kingdom must turn to a new hero. Someone who will pierce the darkness and fight with light. The Hero of Light…

I just wanted to get people's views on this but please bare in mind this is my first Fan-Fic so it's not going to be perfect. Also, if there any spelling/grammer mistakes I'm sorry, my spell check is currently not working for some strange reason. C+C would be greatly apprieciated.

That's all the grammatical errors I could find, thanks to Microsoft Word Spellcheck. D:

Anyways, interesting concept, but I'm a bit confused.

Who are these Picori? o-o

But, I digress. Very good fic. I'm interested in reading Chapter One when ever it comes out.

RaZoR LeAf

Night Terror
Grey is the European spelling, gray is the american spelling. So is Harmonisation. Hyrulians are inhabitants of Hyrule, Hylians are the race that Link falls under, but in this case it should be Hylians. The Picori are also known as the Minish, and they feature predominately in The Minish Cap (no kidding).

Interesting idea, if not a little unoriginal. Evil king, hero reborn, etc. I'd like to see what else happens.

Thanks for the spelling/grammar checks. My Spellchecker on Word is still not working so there might be one or two more mistakes. If there are, please don't hesitate to correct me. Oh yeah, and Picori and the Minish people of the Minish Cap. Picori is their “race” name.

Suppose it's not that original but there should be a few twists and turns that you wouldn't expect that I've planned. Still does follow the same sort of pattern as most Zelda games.

Right, well here's Chapter I.

Chapter I – The Wolf and the Pig

“Link… Link… LINK!” yelled an old woman from an old shack, which was only just being held together. The woman was dressed in rags and looked as if she had not washed in days. The hut was on the edge of a small village facing down towards the Dark Castle of Hyrule in the distance, piecing the red sky of the setting sun. There was a large forest to the left that held many a myth of it’s own and two small boys came running out of the forest. One was wearing a blue waste coast, matching trousers and had a feather poking out of his brown hair. The other was clothed in a green tunic and had a green hat perched on his blond hair.

“I’m coming gran,” called the boy with blond hair, skipping towards the hut. She wasn’t really his gran but he had grown so fond of her that it seemed fitting to refer to her like that. He turned to his friend and said, “Same time tomorrow, right Max?”

“Defiantly,” said Max. “Oh yeah, and Link, you ort to carry this,” he said, thrusting a brown bag of seeds into Link’s hand. “My mum would kill me if she knew we had Deku Seeds,” Max grinned as he ran off towards a shack over the other side of the town. Link turned and headed into his own hut, closing the door behind him.

Inside, the hut was no different. It had only three rooms, and with the whole place being made of wood and creaked in the wind. The main room was much larger than the other two, bedrooms, and had a large table against the back wall. To the right there was a stove boiling over with hot soup and a work surface littered with odd ingredients. Link walked over to the table and sat down, picking up his knife and fork in anticipation for the food. An old woman was rushing around near the hot stove, desperately trying to keep the meal from going horribly wrong.

“You hungry then, Link?” she asked the boy in green.

“I’m starving,” Link replied. “Me and Max have been playing in the forest all day pretending to be heroes.” Link was only 10 and so hadn’t really grown out of his childish nature yet. He still thought girls were disgusting.

“Well, that’s nice,” said Grandma. She picked up the pot and brought it over to the table. She poured out the soup and replaced the pot on the stove, simmering. Link dived straight into the food; scooping his soup so fast it was going everywhere.

“Link, dear,” said the old woman. “Calm down. You’ll get indigestion.” She slurped her soup like a proper lady, spilling none of it.

After the meal, Link cleared away the plates and went into his bedroom. He sat down on his bed and picked up a picture from the side-table next to him. In the picture there was a young looking farmer, chewing straw in his mouth with his arm round a beautiful girl wearing a tattered dress. Paying no attention to the camera and playing around at the couple’s feet was a very young Link. He was wearing his traditional green, his favourite colour, and was playing with a doll on a horse. This picture was one of two things, which he had to remind himself of his mother and father. They had been killed by King Danet’s armies, leaving Link with only his grandmother to look after him. Link put the picture down and picked up the second thing he had been left with as a reminder. A small set of Pan Pipes. Since his parents death, he had become the master of this instrument and was quite brilliant for his age. The pipes were completely ordinary apart from there was the family emblem on the front. Three golden trinagles with the bottom left being a stronger gold than the others. Link had never really bothered to enquire as to why this symbolised the family, nor had it ever occurred to him that it might mean something. He just liked the look of it and liked how it was solid gold. After a while of playing, Link put the Pan Pipes down and got in to bed. His grandmother came in and kissed him on the forehead.

“Goodnight, my little Link,” she wishered in his ear.

“’Night gran,” Link called back as she closed the door. Link drifted into a deep sleep and waited for morning to come.

Danet paced back and forth in his castle of evil. Next to him was his closest companion and adiser, Redav. A stron man, built like a house dressed in complete black armor with a gaint sword attached to his back. His short, green hair extended round his face to form a closly cut beared. Danet turned to Redav. He looked tired and overworked with his jet, black hair untidy and uncombed. His eyes were bloodshot and he had enourmouse bags under them.

“Why am I not happy?” Danet questioned Redav, moving over to the window and looking out on his dark kingdom. “I have everything, everything I could want. I even have unltimate power over all the races. So why do I still feel empty?”

“Maybe,” replied Redav in a rough and husky voice. “Maybe you don’t have the ultimate power.”

“What? Do you rebuke my authority?!” commanded Danet.

“Why my lord,” answered Redav, bending down so he was now on one knee looking up at Danet. “I would never do such a thing. But…” Redav paused for a moment and thought carefully of what he was going to say next. “There is a legend, sir, which tells of a golden power hidden in a perfect kingdom. The legend spoke that whoever held the golden power would have every wish they could ever ask for, granted. Of course, hundreds of men have tried to find this power but none have ever foud it. If you were to find this power, you could ask for what will make you happy. Thus solving your problem.”

Danet looked suspisiously at Redav. “Why have you never spoken of this before?” he asked.

Redav looked away from Danet, as if he was scared of what he might do. “This legend used to spoken on certain islands before the great drought. Since then, people have just forgotten about it. Why bother about some legend, which could well be completely fake, when they had everything here in the old Hyrule during your father’s rein–”

“DO NOT SPEAK OF HIM!” screamed Danet. “That... thing you call my father has brought shame upon my family’s name. It was I who put the people in their place and it was I who had him killed. Never say his name again.!”

A tear came to Redav’s eye. If he had not swore on King Mourn’s deathbed that he would take care of Danet, the prince would not be here now. “No sir,” he bluffed. “Sorry. Anyway, to find this golden power you will need to find the three people who carry it’s existents. We already know where two of them are,”

“We do?” said Danet, shocked.

“Yes, I have been keeping an eye on both, it is part of my line of work. However, the third will prove trickier. The third will be from someone who will challenge us so we have no idea who this will be.” Redav looked up at Danet and saw the confusion in his eyes. “Do not be afraid. Follow my advice and everything will be fine. First, I will bring you the first part of the puzzle. I will bring you the person who carries the first part of the golden power.”

Redav bowed to Danet, turned and walked out the castle entrance. Outside, he removed a small whistle from his robes and blew on it. The whistle seemed to make no noise but out of the night air came the stamping of hooves and the silhouette of a giant horse appeared out of the fog. It was pitch black with green eyes and look like pure evil. Redav grabbed the reins, climbed on and blew the whistle a second time. This time, large dogs with pig-like riders came from the Hyrule Castle dungeon and lined up behind Redav, seven of them in total. Redav whipped the reins and rode off across Hyrule plains, the pigs behind him.

~~~
Link woke to the sudden crash of the roof being torn off it’s hinges and into the black void above the hut. It flew across the village and collided with a small house on teh outskirts of the village. Link jumped out of bed and pulled on his clothes. He could here the sound of burning huts, screaming women and howling wolves. Lin ran into, what was left of, the main room and saw in terror as a gigantic wolf ripped a woman to shreds. Link’s eyes were wide with fright and he screamed. The wolf and it’s rider turned on Link. Link knew he had to do something.
The wolf pounced at Link and Link stuffed his hand inside his pocket. Inside, he felt the Deku seeds Max had given him. He grabbed a few and threw them at the wolf’s eyes. The wolf was blinded for a brief moment, much to Link's relief, and fell to the floor just in front of Link. Link knew he didn’t have much time and so pulled his foot back and, with all his might, kicked the wolf in the side of the head. The wolf simply shook it off, shaking the pig off his back as well. Link pulled his foot back again and kicked up into the wolf’s jaw. The pig creature had now regained it’s balance and had pulled out a sword. He was now walking over to Link and seemed intent on killing him. Link stood now, between the wolf and the pig and had no idea what he was going to do. He was not trained in any arm-to-arm combat and he’d only been lucky so far.
The wolf was now starting to get up and pig had broken into a run. Link started to formulate a plan in his mind. The pig was in striking distance so slashed down with the sword. At the last moment, Link rolled out of the way meaning the sword missed him and struck the wolf’s head, killing him instantly. Link had rolled right around to the back of the pig and was now standing on his feet. The pig was still struggling to get his sword out of the wolf’s head giving Link a moment of chance. Link brought his foot back, and one last time, kicked upwards, connecting sharply with the small collection of dangling objects between the pig’s two legs. The pig instantly let go of the sword and fell to the floor, grabbing his genitals and screaming in pain. Link seized the moment and pulled the sword out of the wolf’s head. He slashed down on the pig, cutting him in many different places. Link withdrew the sword and stumbled back. How was this possible? What had the village ever done to these things? Link dropped the sword and looked around. He saw both wolves and pigs attacking the villagers and burning down the houses. Max seemed to be doing all right with his father. Both were taught in martial arts and were fighting off the pigs as a team. Link continued to look around and it was then, he saw him. A man he had seen before in his nightmares. The main in black with green hair. Link, terrified, fell to his knees, his eye’s fixed on the nightmare man. The man had also noticed him and was staring straight back. The man turned away and shouted something in a different language to his minions around him. The wolves and pigs stopped attacking and started to flee the village. The man turned back to Link and a voice in Link’s head said, “It’ll all be ok.” Link was utterly confused. Who was this man and how come he could here voices in is head. The man turned and started to flee with the others, when Link noticed something draped over the back of his horse. It was gran! Link started to run after the man when he felt something sharp against his back. The wolf, which Link had thought to be dead, had slashed with his claws and then rolled over dead. Link felt the light fading from his eyes. Was this it? Was he dieing? Link fell to the floor, hoping to God that this was not the end.
