The Legend of Zelda: The Ultimate Battle

yes, another fic about LoZ i know i know. This one is my second fic, as my first didn't go too well...but i hope at least some people like it. This takes place just after the Ocarina of Time when Link is back at his house as a kid at the end. The Prologue is a bit short, but the next few chapters will be longer. I will try to update them as soon as I can and try to make them quite long. Now, the story. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: All things Zelda, that being the world of Hyrule, Link etc. etc. is copyright Nintendo and everyone else whom makes Zelda possible. All things you don't recognize from Zelda is mine.

The Legend of Zelda:
The Ultimate Quest

Prologue

Link stood on the large platform he was on and watched as the Dark Lord threw the princess of Hyrule aside. Link was tempted to go to see if the princess was alright, but the Dark Lord encased her in a large, blue diamond-like structure. Link decided that it would have to be later. The Dark Lord jumped to the platform beside the one Link was on and simply stared at him. “Face it boy.” He said to Link, “You cannot hope to defeat me, and the princess can’t help you either!”

Link thought about this, and simply replied saying “You are wrong you fiend!”

The Dark Lord growled at Link and shot a bolt of dark energy at him. Link slashed it back at him and it hit the Dark Lord in the chest. The Dark Lord fell to the ground, staggering and Link rushed up to him slashing and hacking away at the fiend on the ground. Link’s opponent got up and gave Link a quick punch and a swift kick in the stomach. Link flew back onto the platform he was originally on and slowly got up. “Do you not see pathetic boy, what I am capable of?”

“I see perfectly, but you are the one who underestimates my power!” Link shouted back at the evil fiend.

The fiend growled again as he held his arms up in the air. Dark masses of energy flowed up above his head and he threw the great mass of energy at Link. Link shot one of his Light Arrows at it and it disassembled. He then turned his bow to his opponent, took out another arrow, and shot his opponent. Link’s opponent fell again to the ground and Link shot another Light Arrow at the fiend. The fiend rose up into the air as the castle walls and roof on the floor they were on collapsed. Rays of light struck the evil fiend as he too collapsed. The princess was now out of her cell and ran over to Link. “Oh, Link. I was so worried, and scared…scared for you and Hyrule.”

“There was nothing to worry about. This so-called Dark Lord was a pushover. He said so much about the power he had, but that was nothing.”

As Link said this, The Dark Lord rose up into the air again and transformed. The once-human fiend turned into an ugly demon. The demon was gargantuan. It had glowing yellow eyes, hoofed feet, the face of a bird, and a large red crest on its head. It dropped on the ground and threw two large swords up into the air. The demon caught them and snarled as it lunged towards Link and the princess. The demon knocked Link’s sword out of his hands to the edge of the tower, and knocked the princess back with it. Just as the princess was about to run to Link’s side again, the demon summoned a ring of fire around the arena. “What are you?” Link yelled over to the demon. “You, you never were even human were you?”

The demon snarled back at Link. Link and the demon were now face-to-face. Link looked into the demon’s eyes and just by looking at his eyes was intimidated by this strange demon. What Link really had to worry about though, was how he was supposed to fight. He no longer had his sword, so he was left with a few arrows and a hammer. Link jumped back suddenly, now knowing what to do. Link slung an arrow at the demon’s face and the demon lurched back in pain. The now defenseless demon dropped his two swords as Link passed underneath the demon. Link smashed the demon’s tail to the ground with his hammer, and the demon turned to look at him. The demon took his two swords and tried to thrust them into Link, but Link used the magic spell Nayru’s Love to protect himself. Link tried the same attack pattern, but the demon soon understood Link’s tactics for attack and eventually knocked his hammer out of Link’s hand. Link now saw that he could get his sword back. He ran over to his sword and told the princess to stay where she was. Link shot his last arrow at the demon’s face and he once again lurched back. Link ran up, hoping not to be attacked by the demon, and thrust his sword into the demon’s face. Link let go of the sword as the demon started to become hit by intense rays of light. Link looked over to the princess and saw that she was directing these lights towards the demon. Looking around Link saw the other six sages also direct rays of light at the demon, until the demon was no longer there. The princess told Link that the demon was banished to the Evil Realm until the end of time. Link was teleported to the Chamber of Sages along with the six sages and the princess. The sages and the princess bid Link farewell and thanked him for saving Hyrule, for they couldn’t have defeated the demon without Link.

“Link...wake up!” Link heard. “Link! Oh, you’re finally awake! You must have had some dream, it’s almost afternoon!”

Link looked up and saw the face of his best friend, Saria. “Oh, it was you Saria. I’m sorry; I’ll be out to see you in just a second.” He said.

Saria then climbed down the ladder to Link’s house and ran off somewhere else. Link wondered though, was that really just a dream? He looked around his small house and saw his fairy, Navi, and a large blue ocarina. Picking it up, he said to himself and Navi, “No, that wasn’t a dream at all. That really did happen, I’m sure of it.”

Link climbed down the ladder to his house and ran over to where the Deku Tree was, ignoring Saria completely. The little Kokiri who called himself The Great Mido stopped Link. “Oh, and where are you going Link?” The Great Mido said to Link.

“Mido, tell me…has the Deku Tree really died?” Link said

“Link, it’s not just ‘Mido’, it’s ‘The Great Mido’ remember that now. To answer your question though Link, yes the Deku Tree has died.”

Link now knew that it wasn’t a dream that he had. It was all real, and he had yet to learn the true power of the Dark Lord he fought on the top of that tower…

Okay, now for some honest feedback.

I scanned the story briefly and found several problems right off the bat.

First and worst problem: You refer to Link as 'Link' too much. Believe it or not, referring to a character with their actual name too much is a bad thing if done too much, as you have. Just use the name once per paragraph, twice if it's a long paragraph, and three times if it's a REALLY long paragraph. Try referring to Link as 'the warrior' or 'the elf' (wait, is he an elf? It didn't say that... I'll get into it later). Also, 'he' is the best thing besides the name to call a character (you did this a few times with Link, but not enough). But don't confuse the reader with this; they could get a 'he' that was meant for Link confused with the demon.

Descriptions: This, in your part, was terrible, I'm sorry to say. You seemed to describe some of the smaller details (i.e. the thingy that the princess was trapped in) instead of describing the actual characters (I didn't even know if Link was an elf or not!). Read ALL of the sticky on this forum and you'll read more about this.

Story: Personally, I thought it sucked, but that's only because I hate stories or movies based on video games. I developed this opinion with an individual named Paul W.S. Anderson.

Ending (go to the sticky again. I can tell that you didn't read it): Even with a single chapter (or prologue, in this matter), I hate it when they end with "Oh. It was all just a dream," unless the dream is a key point.

Other than that, the sticky should help you with everything. I Hope I helped!

thank you a lot for your honesty Exel, i forgot to read the sticky! *slaps self in face*

and i do agree that i referred to Link as 'Link' too much, so i'll stop doing it as much. No, he's not an elf btw.

Chapter 1 is up!

Part 1:
The Spiritual Stones

Chapter 1:
The First Stone

The young Kokiri boy Link was very strange. Much stranger than any other Kokiri ever known. He was 8, soon to be 9 and a little short for his age. Although he was a bit short, he had grown extremely fast when he was younger. He always wore his green tunic and green hat, and his Kokiri Boots too. The Kokiri boy was also a bit faster than most other people at his age, and was quick to learn things. He was also very observant of his surroundings and a very courageous boy.

Link’s friend Saria was also a bit stranger than other Kokiri. Link had no idea how old his friend was, and never bothered to ask either. She was about Link’s height, wore the same clothing as her friend did, and very wise. She always knew what to do in any situation, which helped her in some situations. Saria often would walk through the Lost Woods to her hideaway in the Secret Forest Meadow and sit down to play her ocarina. Nobody ever took the time to acknowledge this, and so nobody thought anything of it.

Link ran over to Saria to tell her something that he had realized. “Saria! The Deku Tree and Deku Tree Sprout are in danger! And so is all of Hyrule!”

“Link, how do you know this?” Saria said with a puzzled look, “You haven’t seen the Deku Tree for a week!”

“I know that, but Hyrule is really in danger! Look, Saria, just follow me and I’ll show you.” The Kokiri said to his friend.

The two Kokiri ran back to where The Great Mido was again. Mido is a rather short and young Kokiri boy, who thinks extremely highly of himself. He thinks that the whole village loves him, and that he should be treated like royalty. Mido also prefers to be called ‘The Great Mido’ because of this. One other reason for him being so stuck-up would be that he was chosen out of all the Kokiri to be the protector of the Deku Tree and the Lost Woods.

“Mido, I mean, The Great Mido! Please let us see the Deku Tree!” The little Kokiri boy said to Mido

“Why?” The Great Mido asked Link and Saria, as he crossed his arms. “Why should I let you go see him? Why do you even want to see him?”

“Listen Mido, we need to see him because we don’t want the new Deku Tree to die like the elder one did. We’re trying to save him!” Link said angrily

“Well then, if you want to get to him defeat me in a fight.” The stubborn Kokiri said to Link. “You’ll need a sword and shield, and I won’t fight until you get both of those.”

Link and Saria walked away from the Kokiri boy, and over to the shop. Walking in to the small shop, they saw a variety of items and some people lounging around inside. They looked at the Deku Shield on display, and read the sign:

Deku Shield: 40 Rupees

Rupees are the main currency of Hyrule. Every race in Hyrule uses them; from Gorons to Zoras, and Hylians to Gerudos. They are quite easy to find, you can find some in shrubs or under rocks, and people will give you them if you do a good deed. People of all ages use Rupees also. Older men will use them, younger kids will use them, everywhere you go things will cost Rupees!

Link and Saria exited the shop, knowing they both had no money, and looked around to see if they could find any. The young Kokiri both looked around to see what they could do to get Rupees. Just as they looked to their left another Kokiri boy called to them. “Link, Saria! Do you two mind helping me?” The boy called

“Let’s go Link! We’re bound to find Rupees over there. It’ll be easy.” Saria said to Link with a grin on her face.

“You go help him Saria, I think I’ll go and look for a sword that I can use. Have you heard about the Kokiri Sword? It’s just beyond that wall.” The Kokiri boy gestured to his right side. “Well, that’s what I’ve heard at least. I should be back in just a few minutes.”

Without waiting for his friend to respond, Link ran off to the wall the Kokiri Sword was supposedly behind. Observing the wall closely, he saw a pile of rocks next to the wall. He picked up the rocks and tossed them aside to find a small opening that looked just big enough for him to crawl through. He crawled through, and ended up on the other side of the wall like he thought. Link saw a giant boulder rolling around the area, and he decided to be extremely careful. For the first time that day, Link’s fairy, Navi spoke up. “Link! Watch out around those corners! You could get really hurt.”

Link looked at his fairy and noticed how different Navi was from other fairies. The fairy was blue, and had very light, almost white wings. Most fairies around the Kokiri Woods were either red or green. The little fairy was very lighthearted and caring, as well as wise. Navi was never afraid to tell the young Kokiri of any upcoming dangers, or what Link should do in a tough situation. It seemed to the Kokiri boy as if his fairy had an infinite knowledge of enemies they encountered. Thinking about this, Link considered this to be lucky for him to have a fairy like this.

The young Kokiri boy took his fairy’s advice into consideration, and waited around corners for the boulder to pass by. Soon the two made it to a large brown chest with a sign next to it, reading:

The treasure of the Kokiri; the Kokiri Sword. May only those planning to use this blade for good take it.

Inside the chest was indeed the Kokiri Sword, a small sharp blade with what appeared to be a small emerald on the hilt. Link swung it around a little, to test it out a bit. He noticed it was reasonably light, and yet left quite powerful. Tucking it into his belt, he noticed how easy a fit it had also.

Link crawled back through the hole and out to where the other Kokiri were, but couldn’t find Saria. He ran back to where she was last, but she wasn’t there, she wasn’t at her home, with the other Kokiri, in the shop, or any other place she would be. The Kokiri boy now exhausted from running around so much walked back to his house and noticed a note left by Saria.

Link,

I have left you the Rupees you need plus ten more just in case. At this time I am not able to be with you for reasons you must not know, but know that I will see you later today.

Saria.

Link took the fifty rupees Saria left for him and ran back to the shop. He bought a Deku Shield and a Deku stick at the shop, and then stopped to examine them for the first time. He saw that the shield was crafted to be a thin, yet hard, one. The Kokiri Symbol was on it, painted a vivid red color in the center, and it could be adjusted to stay on Link’s back. The Deku stick was also very hard and light, but apart from that looked like any stick you would find lying on the ground.

The Kokiri boy walked out of the shop, Deku stick in hand, and over to Mido. Mido also had a Deku stick in hand, obviously prepared to fight. As they sat staring at each other, Navi suddenly called out to Link. “Link be careful, Mido is younger and shorter than you but still be cautious.”

Taking note of this, Link made the first move. He swung around the stick in a variety of fast and steady movements, trying to intimidate his foe. His opponent came right back with a good response, also twirling his stick around. Link struck first. He struck hard and fast to his opponent’s shoulder. His opponent however, was quick to recover and struck back swiftly. The older Kokiri boy blocked his opponent’s strike just barely. His opponent went for a left jab soon after, hitting the older Kokiri straight in the chest. He fell to the ground, hurt from the strength of the punch, and dropped his weapon. The Deku stick rolled down the small hill they were on and into a small body of water. The Kokiri on the ground was still weak from the jab he got, but slowly got up. His opponent tried to jab him again in the chest, but Link dodged it tripping his opponent in the process. Now it seemed as if the older of the two was on the offense, when his opponent suddenly slashed his opponent in the ankle and got up. The older one fell to the ground in increasing agony crying out in pain for all of the woods to hear him. “Is this all? I would have expected more from you Link.” Mido said snickering.

“Oh, don’t worry Mido, this isn’t over yet!” Link said to Mido, trying to save his breath.

Link got up slowly again, limping a bit, but still able to fight. He tried to jab his opponent, but missed. Then he tried to give his opponent a right hook, but Mido blocked it. Link ran back to where his Deku stick was and grabbed it. He ran over to his opponent now as Mido had his back turned to Link, and whacked him in the back. The older Kokiri was on the offensive again. He kicked his opponent’s side with the rest of the strength he had left and left him lying in the dirt to get up. Mido raised his head and then lowered it again, groaning. Link had won the fight. “I suppose this means I can go to see the Deku Tree then?” Link said to Mido.

Leaving his Deku stick behind, Link ran through the area leading to the Deku Tree. On his way there, he encountered three Deku babas. Deku babas are a relative of the Deku shrubs, but their head looks like a blue clam, it doesn’t appear to have any eyes, and what appears to be its neck is just like a Deku stick. The Kokiri boy thought these were pushovers, he simply slashed their necks and they shriveled up, producing Deku seeds. Deku seeds are used widely around Hyrule by thieves or spies. When you throw Deku seeds on the ground, they pop in a strange way that produces a blinding light. The Kokiri boy pressed onwards to the Deku Tree and newly sprouted Deku Tree Sprout. The Deku Tree’s bark was almost pitch black in color, and it had no leaves, but the little sprout looked fine. When Link got there, the Deku Sprout said instantly, “Link, you must help me. A…parasitic monster…is underneath…my…roots…sapping my…energy…as we speak…Link, please help me! Help me and the elder Deku Tree…”

Link simply nodded his head to signify yes and slowly walked into the large opening in the Deku Tree. Inside, he saw many large holes, most leading down. He decided to avoid most of them for now, and go through the hole closest to him. Inside were several more Deku babas in a circle. Link wondered to himself what the circle could be for, but destroyed the babas anyways. In the middle of the circle a Giant Deku baba came up out of the ground. The Kokiri knew he had to be cautious about this one; it was a good three times the size of him. The giant baba lunged forward slowly, and then straitened itself out again, just barely missing the Kokiri. The boy then lunged forward to attack, but the monster’s neck was far too strong to but cut in one slash. The monster shrugged off the little Kokiri, throwing him back against the wall and hurting his ankle again. The boy got up and tried again though, this time not going to slash right away at the monster. He dodged the baba’s first move, then another, and finally slashed through the neck of the oversized weed. As the thing died, a hole appeared where it was, leading down under the giant tree.

Link jumped down the hole. In the area he was in now, there were no holes at all. There were four strange yellow piles of leaves facing him. Link walked over to one and as hew did this a monster popped out of the leaf pile. It was covered in leaves the same color as the pile it was in, and its face looked like a wooden mask with what appeared to be a nose, or even a mouth. The Kokiri’s fairy then spoke up, saying “Be careful, that’s a Deku Scrub. It will spit Deku seeds at you.”

The Kokiri jumped to his side, trying to avoid the seeds it spat out. He was hit by a seed, and was surprised at how hard it was. The boy now knew that this Deku Scrub was somewhat of a threat to him. Just as he realized this, three more of the monsters popped out of the piles of leaves. Link took out his Deku Shield to see if it would block him from the seeds, and was surprised at the outcome. The Deku Shield deflected the seeds back at the monsters and they ran away, making a horrible screeching noise. Realizing that the monsters had nowhere to go, they started to spit seeds back at Link. The boy was hit by several of these seeds, but deflected them as best as he could. Soon there was only one left. The boy took out his sword and slashed the monster, and it fell to the ground, lifeless. Before he died, the boy heard it say something: “Orphae…sorry…tried…best…”

Just after this short battle, a chest appeared. The boy opened it and inside was a slingshot and a satchel of Deku seed bullets. Looking at it, the boy noticed how sturdy it was, and yet light, just like the Kokiri Sword. The boy then ran over to another pile of leaves and stood on it. Soon, the boy was falling down farther underneath the tree and realized it was a trap!

In the new area Link was in, there were seven large holes. Looking into one, the boy saw that the hole didn’t go very deep. The boy heard a rustling noise, then felt a large rumbling. He looked behind him and a giant worm was there. “This must be that parasitic worm, Orphae.” Navi said to the boy.

The monster was huge, had no eyes, and had many rows of sharp teeth. The parasitic monster let out a loud roar and burrowed back into its hole. The worm roared again, revealing where it was, and Link ran over to where the sound was loudest. The worm came out of the hole for a brief second, then went back in. “Link! It appears as if that monster knows when you’re around! Try to stay away from the sound.” Navi said to the boy.

The boy heard the sound again. He ran away from it this time, but not too far. The worm moved his head to each side, then roared again. Link pulled out his slingshot and shot the worm in the head. The worm roared in pain and wiggled its head around. The boy ran up to the worm and slashed it recklessly with his sword. The worm burrowed down into the ground again, not making any noises. Orphae popped out of another hole behind Link and bit his leg. The Kokiri boy’s leg went completely numb. He couldn’t walk now and was forced to sling seed bullets at the worm from on the ground. Though this hurt the worm, it didn’t look like it was doing much. Soon the boy could feel his leg again. He drew his sword and ran up to the monster. He jumped towards the monster and dug his weapon into the worm’s head. Taking it out, the monster was now flailing about and making a horrible, ear-piercing screeching noise. Within seconds after, the monster had fell down in its hole and decomposed.

Link had won the battle. He saw a ray of blue light in the center of the room and a large, red heart with a silver lining. He walked over to the heart and when he touched it, it immediately disappeared into the boy’s body. The boy now felt stronger, like he could withstand more now than before. As he looked down at his cuts on his leg, they had healed upon contact with the heart. The boy walked into the ray of light as he was then encased inside of a blue crystal and transported out of the dungeon. He was now above the dungeon he was in. He stood now just in front of the Deku Tree Sprout. The sprout turned to Link and said to him “Thank you so much for saving me. The parasitic monster underneath me, it is gone for good. It will never bother us again. There are however, more monsters out there. The world is in danger, I can sense it. A strange man of the Gerudo tribe came and summoned the monster underneath my roots; he is the man who is plotting to take over the world. He came for this jewel, and now I must give you this to protect it from him. I must give you the Kokiri’s Emerald!”

As the sprout said this, a strange jewel lowered from the larger Deku Tree’s leaves. It appeared to be in the shape of the Kokiri Emblem that was on the shield Link held. It was a fascinating light green color, and yet also transparent. The boy held out his hands and wondered now where he could put it. The sprout then gave the boy a large satchel and said “Here, use this to hold your belongings and any other items you find on your quest. Yes you will travel far from here on your quest, but do not fear there are people like me who do not agree with the plans of evil. They will surely aid you. Now run to Hyrule Field, there you will meet Kaepora Gaebora, a wise owl.”

With that, the Kokiri was off for Hyrule Field. Mido yelled over to the boy, saying something about them fighting again. Link highly doubted that and simply ignored the other Kokiri. The boy soon got to the bridge at the edge of the Kokiri Forest and Hyrule Field, separated by the Lost Woods. There was a fairy there. It was a red fairy just sitting by itself. Suddenly Saria appeared next to Link. “So you must leave.” She said to the boy.

“Saria, please understand this” Link said to his friend. “I have to go to save all of Hyrule, just like I thought.”

“Link, if you have to go then please take this with you, to remember me by.” Saria said, holding out an ocarina.

The ocarina Link now held in his hands was a light red color with many holes in it. By watching Saria, he knew how to play it, but he knew one song. He put the instrument up to his mouth as his friend turned the other way to look at something. Positioning his fingers firmly in the correct places he blew through the ocarina. He produced the notes of the song Saria would often play in a nice rhythm as his friend looked over to him. Saria widened her eyes and covered her mouth with her hand. Link stopped playing. Saria uncovered her mouth and said to Link “You remembered the song that I play all the time. I finally decided to call it Saria’s Song. Remember it, whenever you play it you can talk to me through the ocarina. Now go to see Kaepora Gaebora. Don’t worry, I heard the Deku Sprout tell you that. Goodbye.” Saria said to Link, as he left the woods for Hyrule Field.
