The Music of Gaming

Here, we chat about almost anything about game music.

Me you say?

Well, Advent Rising may be a bad game, because of its controls, but its music is total hardcore. You don't know the true power of orchestry unless you hear this.

I haven't even tried the game, but read the review, but I listened to samples of the game's soundtrack in a book store. Unfortunately, it doesn't have game soundtracks.

Is there a reliable place where I can find the soundtrack?

I do not know if it is just me but a lot of soundtracks for new games are becoming more rock based. I am using Sonic Rush as an example.

I don't know which song it is, but it sounds like a boss battle. Anyway in Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne Maniacs, one of the songs carries the same techno loop as the 5th intro to Pokemon, Ready Go!

I thought that was weird.

Hrrm... I should know this, but I don't have the 5th intro to Pokemon, Ready Go! so, I can't really compare.

@Kez - I agree, after seeing the opening to Tales of the Abyss, I noticed that the song, Karma, was evidently Rock, but the battle theme was more of a techno tune than anything else.

well, Hitoshura Shoujo, I am glad that I am not the only one who think that then.

I have to say that I really like the music for Dragon Roost Island from WW. I am even thinking of buying the OST.

My favorite VG Music artist is Motoi Sakuraba. I prefer just plain awesome songs that get you hyped up, and this guy is awesome at that. Look at his work:

That's a ****ing good resume for a music career, wouldn't you say?

Kingdom Hearts, LOZ, Final Fantasy VI, VII, and IX have the best music in my opinion

Yea, Square can sure find some really good music around here, but Tommy Tallarico and Michael Richard Plowman (Composers of Advent Rising soundtrack) have the true power of classical.

This is one subject I do pay attention to. I listen closely to music on all games. Looped hook ear worm music is a fun thing to write and listen to.
I like epic music like Morrowind and some from Halo. Of course the earworm of the pokecenter I tend to hum alot. Check game sites for soundtracks.
I own the music from Myst and Riven. I'll have to listen to Advent Rising and see if it's good. I was listening to stuff like this before it became popular.

Mininova and torrents.to are your best bets, if you have a torrent client.

Anyway, my favorite songs from certain games are:

Lumines
Katamari Damacy
Kingdom Hearts
DDR/IIDX
Sonic Rush
Advent Rising
Jet Grind Radio

I like stuff that's quirky, sounds superior to the normal VG music, and has style.
