BOSS STRATEGY GUIDES
Defeating Bosses
Skarmory: Skarmory lies at the peak of Mt.Steel, and will attack you once you reach it. Throw a Gravelerock first, then eat Blast Seeds to attacks it, and eat an Oran Berry to heal whenever necessary. With luck and a little effort, Skarmory should be down
Zapdos: You will first encounter Zapdos in Silent Chasm, but it will fight you only once you climb to the top of Mt. Thunder, and so you will confront it there. Like before, throw a Gravelerock first, but this time, you should be at a good enough level to start using moves. If it KOs you too fast, try throwing Sleep Seeds to put it to sleep for a few turns. If necessary, link moves back in Pokémon Square at Gulpin's link shop, or use a Link Box. Linking moves allows you to perform several attacks within one turn - perfect for strong enemies
Moltres: By the time you're on Moltres you'll be a fugitive, so make sure you stock up before you get kicked out of town (how rude!). He can put up quite a fight, especially if you're a grass type, once again. Reviver Seeds are a must here, considering Fire types, Normal types, Machop, and Cubone will have trouble on him just as much as grass types. Luckily if you're a water type or Pikachu, you can take him down with little effort. Also, if you happen to find a link box, you should definitely use it. Even if it costs you two PP per turn instead of one, it'll allow you to perform several attack in one turn
Articuno: A frustrating boss, especially since you won't have the chance to stock up on items in shops before you battle him. He's even harder to defeat than Moltres due to Powder Snow, as it'll destroy you and all your teammates in one strike, regardless of type. If you're a grass type, you're doomed unless you have a tool box full of Reviver Seeds (why do the creators seem to have a grudge on grass-types?). Fire types and some water types should beat him with little effort though if you use the right attacks. Machop has the weakness to flying moves and Cubone is weak to ice though so they'll need Reviver Seeds just as much as Bulbasaur, Chikorita and Treecko, who should just use the long-range Razor Leaf and Bullet Seed if you happen to be them/have one of them as your partner. As before, use link boxes
Groudon: After defeating Articuno, you have cleared your name and have proven yourself innocent. Meanwhile, your partner is focused on a more "professional" rescue base. After a trio of Mankey happen to finish your new base, providing you give them their beloved chestnuts, you'll be asked to save the ACT in Groudon's dungeon. The thing about Groudon is that he's a pain to recruit, but probably the easiest boss to defeat. Grass types finally fight a boss that's they're not weak to type-wise, and water types get to battle another easy boss. Even fire types with the weakness to ground-type attacks should take him down with little effort. Normal, fighting and ground types won't have trouble either, even with no actual benefits. Though if you want to play it safe level up a bit and bring some reviver seeds
Rayquaza: If you're just about to battle him, don't worry; he's much easier, than you think. Water types and Cubone should have Ice Beam by now, and Fire types with Flamethrower will do good enough. The only Pokémon that will die quickly in this battle are Machop, the Grass types and the Normal types, but if you give them TMs and use a few link boxes, they should also defeat Rayquaza in a few tries. Regardless of all the positives, you should bring as much reviver seeds, apples and Max Elixers as you have, as the real challenge isn't Rayquaza; Sky Tower is a very difficult and annoying dungeon
Kyogre: After restoring peace (somewhat) to the Pokémon-only world, you'll soon be invited to the Stormy Sea, a dungeon with 40 floors and unfortunately no saving point whatsoever. Kyogre, who lurks at the end though, is easy to beat and if you're lucky enough, he can join you the first time you go through that dungeon. If not, you'll need to go through it again to recruit him. He's also only level 25, being a pushover to the other bosses you've encountered
Regirock / Regice / Registeel: All of them lurk in the first 99-floor dungeon you'll visit, with Regirock being on the 15th, Regice being on the 25th, and Registeel being on the 35th. They're all easy to beat, in fact, Regirock is only on level 18, and the next two are but one or two levels higher. Beware though; they have a trap one step ahead of you, so its best to start off with a long-range attack then finish them off with a more powerful one. Every time you beat one of them, you'll get a special "part", and all three will combine to a Music Box, needed for seeing Mew. So don't throw the parts away unless you're willing to explore 99 floors again
Raikou / Entei / Suicune: After beating Buried Relic, you'll come across Spinda, who appears to have some sort of feather. Spinda is determined to find out its meaning and so you take it to Xatu. He orders you to travel to the three legendary lands, where Raikou, Entei, and Suicune await. These guys are hard to recruit but a little too easy to defeat, but their dungeons may give you trouble if you're not prepared. Each time you defeat one of the beasts, they'll add on their energy to the feather, eventually making it the Rainbow Feather. You then are ordered to take it to Ho-oh's dungeon
Latios: After obtaining the friend area Southern Island and Surf, you wake up very early in the morning because you hear a loud noise. You step outside and you see a blue streak (Latios) zip past you. You go back to bed. Later that morning there is a commotion at the square because someone stole the purple Kecleon's TMs. Alakazam says the thief went to Northern Range. Northern Range is a 25 floor dungeon with some pretty strong Pokémon there. On the 25 floor you encounter Latios and battle him because he stole the TMs. The point is do whatever to kill him, it won't matter how
Lugia: After beating Latios, if you obtained Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres, you'll see Alakazam in Pokémon Square, though this time he's near the entrance to Wishcash's Pond. Talk to him, and he will tell you about trouble in a friend area. Then, visit the birds in their friend area, and they'll open Lugia's cave. Silver trench is like Buried Relic, meaning its 99 floors, so train if you had trouble on Relic. Afterwards, go in. Silver Trench is practically made up of Grimer Food; eat them even with the drawback of a status effect, and bring lots of Reviver Seeds, Huge Apples, and Max Elixers in. When you battle Lugia, start off with your regular long-range attack, then follow up with a powerful attack to finish him off. He is rather weak compared to his dungeon, so don't worry much
Deoxys: After recruiting Lugia, you will be invited to an annoying, but easy dungeon. The dungeon is set up so you can only bring it 4 items (one being held). Also, beforehand you had to fight Deoxys' mirages. These are not hard, but usually require an actual move to take down and pressure takes over. if not well-prepared, this boss battle will be standard attack after standard attack. If properly prepared (Friend Bow/X-Ray Specs/Reviver Seed/Reviver Seed), Deoxys should just be one actual attack. This is probably the first boss where the dungeon greatly impacts the boss. Be warned, this boss has pursuit, a deadly attack
Mewtwo: Mewtwo lives in the wild west a.k.a. Western Cave. Like Lugia and Groudon, Mewtwo isn't really the hard part, rather is hs dungeon. Reviver Seeds and Huge Apples are nessacary. Max Elixers are almost as important. Luckly many items can be found in Western Cave, including the three best survival items- Huge Apples, Reviver Seeds, and Max Elixers. Don't bother to save up space for Mewtwo - he is inrecruitable the first time around. For fighting Mewtwo, start off with a powerful long range attack. The best is Bullet Seed. After he's close to you, smash him down with any powerful attack. Mewtwo isn't that hard but if your big gun gets wiped out in the dungeon, you'll need a spare who can take down Mewtwo
Recruiting Bosses
Zapdos: Since you can't recruit Skarmory (as a boss), I'll go right ahead to Zapdos. Anyway, he's pretty easy to recruit, though just keep these tips in mind; you have to be the one to kill him, so if a teammate unleashes the final blow, there is no chance he'd ask to join. Also, Zapdos and many other legendaries have a body size of 4, and the total body size you can have at once 6, so you should have either one 2* Pokémon, two 1* Pokémon, or just one 1*. Best advise would be not to use a partner at all, since after you beat Rayquaza your partner has the option of leaving the team to go back to its friend area
Moltres: Moltres is level 52, making it seven levels higher than Zapdos (which is on 45). Still though, he's just as easy to beat and has the same chance of joining you as Zapdos. Best thing to would be to be at a high rank, preferably Platinum or higher, and being at a high level yourself. With a few tries, you should easily get Moltres
Articuno: Articuno is level 53, making it but one level higher than Moltres, but just as easy to recruit. Powder snow can still be a pain, but you should recruit it with little effort. As always, being at a high rank and level help a lot
Groudon: As mentioned earlier, Groudon is a pain to recruit. It took myself, and I will admit, over 15 freakin' times to recruit it. Best thing to do is to be at Lucario Rank, and being over level 60. Also, it would help to equip the friend bow to your leader, but since you find it in Ho-oh's dungeon which takes awhile to reach, its best to leave Groudon where it is and come back later
Rayquaza: With the same recruit rate as Groudon, Rayquaza is just as a pain as Groudon to recruit. A high level and the Friend Bow is suggested. If you choose to recruit it without the friend bow, you need to be above level 59 to even have a chance of recruiting him, so, like Groudon, leave it be and wait to recruit it until after you have obtained the Friend Bow
Kyogre: Easily the easiest boss to recruit (well, except for the legendaries with a 99.99% catch rate). Just don't kill him too fast because if you kill him with a long range attack while he's away from you, he won't ask to join. So in other words, make sure he comes directly to you first. Then feel free to waist him
Regirock/Regice/Registeel: All three aren't as bad as Groudon and Rayquaza, but they can still be annoying. As always, let them come to you, then kill them afterwards. Don't walk up to them though - as mentioned before, there's a trap one square ahead of you, and it can simply mess up your chance to obtain the legendary guardian
Raikou / Entei / Suicune: These are painful to recruit. Not as hard as Deoxys or Groudon, but can still be hard. Being above level 90 and having the Friend Bow will help you a lot. Worst part is, their dungeons aren't that long but many times you'll fail on trying to reruit them so it is a challenge
Latios: After your battle with him, you take him to the square to heal up. He wakes up and explains he stole the TMs for "resolutions" and to help him save Latias, his younger sister, who fell into the Pitfall Valley which no one has ever escaped from. Alakazam says Latios was being very, very foolish for trying that. Anyway you still have the working (but broken) teleport gem so you can escape the place with Latias. The Pitfall Valley is 25 floors and is pretty dangerous, especially once you get to the Areodactals. At the last floor you see Latias on the ground and you warp out of there. Then there is a mushy happy screen where Latias and Latios are reunited. Latios says he can't repay you so they decides to join your team. Latios is lv 30, Latias is lv 28
Lugia: Lugia should be the first boss you battle with a 99.99% recruitment rate, and its not lyin'. Lugia has a perfect chance of joining your team, because even with that 0.1%, the bonuses you get of being at a high level (surely you can't beat this place lower than level 40) will make it a sure recruit. Fortunately, you are able to recruit him the first time you battle him, so with little effort Lugia should join your team easily
Deoxys: Makes Groudon and Rayquaza look like a joke. With a harder dungeon (because you can only bring in one Pokémon, the leader), same recruit rate, and the hard dungeon in front of it, and no save/midway point, this recruitment will be hell. First off, use the items provided above. Go through the dungeon, and when you come to Deoxys, try to beat it normally. If it doesn't ask to recruit, either turn off you game, or if you want to play fair, get more reviver seeds and do it again. Be warned-Deoxys has knock off so be careful when you have friend bow on
Mewtwo: You don't need any Friend Bow here - Mewtwo's catch rate is 99.99%, in other words: instant capture. Beware though- you have to kill him when he's next to you. If you kill him with a long range attack an he's not close to you, he won't join your team, and your adventure will be proven useless
Recruiting Legendaries Which Aren't Bosses
Mew: Mew can be found by linking the Rock, Ice, and Steel parts, each gotten after being Regirock, Regice, and Registeel in Buried Relic, and turning them into a Music Box. Mew has a chance of appearing through floors 36-98 in the same dungeon, as long as the Music Box remains in your inventor. Using it will simply crumble it, and if you hold it it'll have no effect whatsoever. To make it easier to find it, wait until the dialogue box says "Mew used Transform!" or "Mew picked up _____". Mew can also appear in Monster Houses. Once you find a Pokémon using unusual attacks such as Pound, that means you found Mew. Mew also has slightly better chance of appearing through the last few floor, so pay careful attentions to those
Latias: As explained in the Latios recruitment section, Latias will join you automatically after saving her in Pitfall Valley on the 25th floor. She is on level 28, not too low but probably isn't near as experienced as the rest of your party
Celebi: Celebi is behind is Purity Forest, a massive 99-floor dungeon where you are temporarily reset to level one, can't bring any companions, can't bring money, and can't bring items. Celebi, however, is found at the end, and will join team as soon as you get to his floor, without a need of battle
LEVEL-ONE DUNGEON WALKTHROUGHS
Purity Forest
For all you desperate wanna be Celebi owners, I'll be giving probably the best way to get to it as possible. But there is no perfect way, because you cannot bring any items or money. It only depends on what you find inside the dungeon. And that is a major part of surviving in there. Alakazam is recommended, because of his awesome defense at level 1. He survived a Kecleon’s normal attack at level 2
Items to bring:
I'd laugh if you actually went in there with your items, then say "What items?"
*Hint* You cannot bring items! And any items you bring are lost!
Strategy
Not much to say. On the early floors collect Grimy Foods, any Apples, Max Elixirs, and the one and only best friend, Pass Scarf. Pass Scarves aren't that common so you just have to make due with a Def. Scarf or a Detect Band. But then again, you may not find them at all. When approaching Zangoose, keep a 2 square distance. If you end up in a tough Monster House where you can't escape easily, Teleport. Try collecting and teaching Rest, Light Screen, and Reflect. Especially Reflect. Since Venomoth and Parasect has Bug moves, Reflect comes in handy. When you see Grimers, COMPLETELY AVOID THEM. Their Sludge, and Poison Gas can cut corners and hit you. Keep a great distance between smell and Alakazam. And if you didn't know, Grimer is what smells. Also, avoid Porygon2s and Scizors because they have Agility. Near the end, let's say above 95F, there aren't much worries as long as you got 2 Max Elixirs. You may need rescuing in between, since you are not going to find all these items 100%. But you should be able to get enough essentials
Wish Cave
The one and only lovely Level 1 regression dungeon where you must defeat a boss. Isn’t life grand? Well, I recommend Mew, because he is the pwNz0r5. Nah JK. I’ll give you some reasoning. Easy leveling and can learn any TM. Alakazam is also good, but you need a TM Frustration and a Pass Scarf FOR SURE
Items to bring:
11 Joy Seeds
5 Reviver Seeds
3 TMs. That includes TM Bullet Seed, Thunderbolt, and Protect
1 Huge Apple or TM Frustration
Well, from Floors 1-9, train up to Level 10 or more. On your way, find lots and lots of Apples and Max Elixirs. They are your friends. Then eat all your Joy Seeds! That means you are level 22 or above. So you have a lovely stroll until you end up at Floor 50. Oh those evil Electrodes and their evil Sonicboom. 55 Set damage. Well it’s a goody good thing you got high HP as Mew and that you got the one and only Protect (well there’s Detect, but Mew can’t learn it)! If you run into groups of Pokémon or you are stuck right in between them, use Protect and make a clearing. When you reach them Zangoose, Protect makes you live! Their Fury Cutter is death for Mew. Okay, also avoid any Pokémon that knows Bug, Dark, or Ghostie moves. Also when you see Shuppet, Thunderbolt comes in handy there. Near the end of the dungeon, avoid Metagrosses, because they slow you down! Even though you can put Protect up, it may miss and you have to stand up to two attacks.
When fighting Jirachi, All you need to do use Protect then Bullet Seed/Frustration. I think about 7-10 of those will bring it down. After all, Jirachi has 350HP.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q) Can I switch leaders?
A) After you beat Rayquaza, the last boss in the story, you will be allowed by the "Make Leader" option that will become available when you talk to a Pokémon in its Friend Area to make a Pokémon the leader of the rescue team. Its stays leader until you switch it again
Q) My partner keep dying and keeps making me lose! Can't I just remove him like all my other teammates?
A) Unfortunately, no, not after you beat Rayquaza
Q) I beat all the dungeons in the Makuhita Dojo...but I didn't get a Bonsly statue...
A) After you beat Rayquaza (again!), Makuhita will open new ones, though the only one you'll have to complete after that is the Ghost Maze. Team Hydro, team Shiftry, etc. don't have to be done
Q) I bought all Wigglytuff's friend areas, but I still can't recruit some Pokémon on my team! What's happening?!
A) There could be three possibilities. One, you didn't complete the four special missions that reward you with friend areas (a list can be found at the top of the thread). Two, you didn't buy the new one that you unlock after beating Rayquaza (damn...again?), or three, your trying to recruit a Pokémon that can't be recruited - only can be by evolving
Q) Where is Mew? I know he's in Buried Relic but I can't find him?
A) Mew appears randomly throughout floors 36-98 of the Buried Relic, after you have beaten all three Regi's and obtained the ice parts, rock parts, and steels parts, which in turn make a music box. Mew appears like any normal Pokémon and can use transform, so watch the dialogue box for "Mew used transform" or "Mew picked up the ??? Poké". Mew has a very low recruit rate so be careful. A friend bow, high level and high rank are recommended. However, make sure you have the item you need most of all - the friend area Final Island (you can purchase it at the Wigglytuff Club)
Q) What the...I just evolved, but I don't seem any stronger at all!
A) The thing in Mystery dungeon is that you don't get stronger after evolving. Mystery dungeon makes up for this disappointment though by letting your Pokémon eat gummies in friend areas. In fact, its possible to have any Pokémon with 999 in each stat in this game
Q) Can I change my team name?
A) Unless you start a new game...no
Q) Can you find Munchlax in this game? If yes, can he join you? Also, if yes, how do you find him?
A) Yes, he is, but he can't join. The only way you can find him is in Pokémon Square, up to two times. He's rare to find
Q) So, if he can't join you, what's his purpose?
A) Both times he'll ask you to give him an apple or accuse you of stealing one. Either way, give one to him, and both times he'll give reward you a Munch Belt, which even though makes your belly go down faster, it raises both your special and physical attack stats
Q) I'm confused about the wondermail codes, with the (M), (F), and (...) symbols...what do they mean?
A) The (M) is the male sign, (F) is the female sign, and (...) is the ... sign. These "abreviations" are used because its pretty hard to type these symbols up, so these make it easier to do so
