Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.
Hi all.
We had a couple of reports of people's signatures getting edited etc. in a bad way. You can rest assured this wasn't done by staff and nobody has compromised any of our databases.
However, remember to keep your passwords secure. If you use similar passwords to elsewhere which has been accessed, people and even bots may be able to access your account.
We always recommend using unique passwords, and two-factor authentication if you are able. Make sure you're as secure as possible
Tutorials? On this website? o_0 Didn't know there were any, unless you're talking about the one stickied thread.
I've never really followed any tutorials before, so I spent a good year trying to figure out how to make another layer... haha... (sobbing) On the flipside, though, I got to figure out a lot of things for myself, which is always really fun. Not just with software, either-- almost everything I know about drawing and colours is just from crying over other people's art. Art lessons haven't taught me anything at all, to be completely honest. Or maybe it's just because I suck at traditional pencil and paper...
Sorry for not posting recently. x_x
@Bru- I like the texture for Melody! And, I think all the styles look good on her (I can't choose).
@Keysmash- I love that Yosuke pic, I need to play Persona 4.
@Toyo- I think you have a unique style, looks like a vector.
As for my strengths/weaknesses: I can draw dragons and Pokémon but I'm not the greatest with drawing humans (I can draw them but I don't enjoy it). Also, I'm working on anatomy and perspective at the moment.
This isn't quite what I'm working towards, but I figured I should test out if the idea would even work. And it will! It'll just take a couple days, because even this one took about 8 hours and my goal is one that's roughly 2 or 3 times bigger.
Still, this is currently my biggest drawing to date.

Do you know the exact dimensions? And for larger drawings like that, I suggest going for more rigid paper. It's easier to roll up, and doesn't fold or crumple easily.

The paper would be 22" x 25.5" (that's 55.88cm x 64.77cm for you non-american folks) because it's 6 8.5"x11" pieces of paper stuck together. But yeah, I can pick up some cardstock and do it with that. That's work better.

I wish I had larger paper, but if I bought them where I go, it'd be really expensive. I did buy 6 sheets of cardstock though, so I'm planning on trying again with that. Probably draw Pandora this time. Only cost me $0.98 for the six sheets together. I work at an office supply store, so I get a discount ^_^

Not so sure about cardstock, the texture is different from normal paper sometimes, and it probably looks and feels different to draw on, especially when colouring with colour pencils.

I tried getting a kind that's really similar to paper in texture, but I figured it might be different. Thats why I only got size so I could test it out.
Strength:
1. I don't follow tutorials. It can be annoying, but I like to figure how to do things on my own instead of following something step by step. Though I do made some tutorials ironically lol
2. Tenacity & effort. When I do a project, even a simple one, I put all my energy and effort into it to make it look at least desirable.
3. Call me crazy, but I'm somewhat competitive when it comes to art lol That's why I do keep track of my improvements.
Weaknesses:
Perfectionism & impatience, but impatience is the most bothersome one. I always have a goal in mind on how I want things to be, but I tend to have few no zero ideas on how to make them, considering how I have yet learned the needed skills & knowledge. This often result to cancellation & sheer disappointment. x[
Anyway, could someone give me hints on how to improve this thingy here:
I'm trying to get my inspiration back, but 0 success so far. I decided for a christmas theme, simply because a friend of mine had sent me this render this morning. Couldn't resist. I liked it quite a bit, my first time working with a proper theme. But then so, when you're not inspred, chances are that it won't come out as good.
So... Hints? Ideas?
First off, its too crowded with glitters. Try reducing the opacity of the snowflakes while removing (or also reducing) the white hair thingy on the top. That will hopefully make the render stand out from the rest.
Second, The text shadow doesn't correlate with the light source. As you can see, the light comes from bottom right corner while the shadow also appear from the same position. Keep in mind that shadows have to appear at the opposite side of the light source.
So, I'm pretty much done with art for the time being. My A-level coursework deadline was yesterday and after literally working flat-out for two weeks and upcoming exams and all, I'm going to give art a rest for a little while. I don't know what the future will bring but since now I don't think I'll ever study art in an educational context, this might be the end - but we'll see what the future brings.
But still, thought you guys might like to see how my poster project turned out.
After the stuff I did in my book, things got pretty one-sided. Partly due to lack of time and partly due to lack of motivation, I decided to settle on one method of poster production which doesn't only look brilliant, but also has the added advantage of being able to produce large quantities of work with minimal effort: silk-screen printing.
I decided simplicity would be key here. The look and feel of the resultant posters eschew the busy textured acrylics of previous posters and retain a minimalist look, which I think looks rather nice. I did run into difficulties because we didn't actually have a screen frame big enough to print on A1 paper, so the three components: the bird, the lettering and the border (itself divided into corners and lines) all had to be printed separately, which led to some insane alignment issues. A couple of times I found myself having to essentially shelve a poster just because I printed the border at a wonky angle, even though the rest of the poster would have been exemplary.
But enough of me rambling; just take a look for yourself. WARNING: they are pretty large images, so take caution - and also I highly recommend zooming out if you can't see the entire picture on your screen to get the full effect.

What kind of artist are you?: I do digital and traditional art mainly in an anime/manga style, but I am working on boradining my horizons by trying out more and more styles and ways of creating an image. I also have a tendancy to draw in class (mainly Latin) in biro, if that counts. Oh, and I do graphics too, not as often as I used to, I tend focus more on drawing nowadays, but I do still do them.
Bwahaha, no, not quite... While it's true that she DID start as a Zorua anthro in my head, I have taken the design leagues away from that... And I didnt even notice the resemblance to smeargle's tail until now.
Ah, that makes sense. It's not easy doing those as we usually see movement continuosly. One way to do it, if the action is repetitive like running, is just do the position of one point in running. While for things other than that...I guess whatever you what to show, like if you want to show flailing arms, draw multiple blurry ones with lines showing the direction it's going. But I think it's best to learn from experience and observation.
