Thread

(SSBB for short. Approved by RedStarWarrior.)

Right, welcome to the new and improved SSBB thread.

Release Dates (VERY Important)
Japan – 24th January 2008
North America – 10th February 2008
Europe and UK – TBA 2008
Australia and New Zealand - TBA

General Information about SSBB

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the third title in Nintendo’s fighter series. It ensembles a cast of old and new game characters, most of whom are owned by Nintendo. Super Smash Bros. differs from traditional fighting games, in that simply hitting an opponent will not result in a KO. The enemy must be hit hard enough to fly out of the screen. Each hit will increase damage applied to an opponent, and the more damage (or percentage) that has been accumulated; the more likely the character is to fly off the screen. The man who directed the last two games, Sakurai, is directing the game.

Another very important part of Super Smash Bros. is the Single-Player, and with this comes the next section, Game Modes.

In SSB the only single player mode was very basic and wasn't very challenging. With the introduction of Melee, two more game modes appeared, Adventure and All-Star. What can we expect from Brawl, who knows. We can only make assumptions at this stage.

However it is fairly safe to say the following modes will be included.

Classic - Been around since the beginning so there is little reason to remove it.
Adventure - This may be greatly changed to be more narrative, or it could stay the same. If it does stay the same, the next mode would probably be...
Story - This mode would change depending on who the character was and would follow their journey through the Smash World. It could also include a unique boss at the end.
All-Star - This mode may or may-not return. If the character rooster exceeds 40, which is possible, it may be impossible to beat and would therefore become obsolete. However, it is really unknown at this stage.

Remember, at the moment, these game modes are just pure speculation, and MUST be taken with a pitch of salt. Until the official site confirms this, the above is just a rumour.

~~~
head_title_06.jpg
Fifthly, an aspect of the game that is often over-looked by gamers but plays a vital part, the music. Themes from varies games are always included in SSB and the original scores for the game are equally good.
It seems that this time around Sakurai has recognised the potential the music has to make the game even better and has therefore employed a huge number of musicians from many different companies, which is fantastic. It also appears that the music will be fully orchestrated for the final version of the game. Here's a list of confirmed tracks appearing in the game so far.
Theme (Super Smash Bros. Brawl) - Opening
Menu 1 (Super Smash Bros. Melee) - Battlefield
Yoshi's Story Ending (Yoshi's Story) - [Currently Unknown]
Metroid: Boss Battle (Ridley Music) - [Currently Unknown]{1}
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Medley - [Currently Unknown]{2}
Star Fox: Space Armada - [Currently Unknown]
{1} This alone strongly suggests that Ridley is in the game, in some form. Whether he's a boss or a character, he's in. You don't make a theme for a character who's not in the game
{2} This medley strongly suggests Shiek is still the character transformation of Zelda. Why include OoT music when, so far, every other character is apparently from TP?
head_title_02.jpg
And finally, each rendition of the series brings more depth into playing the game. For Super Smash Bros. Melee (GC), smash moves and B> moves were added. So far, Sakurai has shown these new features:
Crawl - The character crawls slowly along the ground avoiding overhead projectiles and attacks.
Final Smashes - When a character collect a Smash Ball, they are able to pull off a Final Smash move, which is more powerful than a normal move. Some think that Samus will transform into Zamus via this method.
Moving-and-Shooting - Now players are able to walk, run and jump whilst shooting their favourite gun weapons. So far, only the Super Scope has been used as an example.
SSBB will, contrary to what was first speculated, utilise all four forms of control currently present. That means Wiimote (horizontal), Wiimote + Nunchuk, Classic Controller and GameCube Controller. It's most likely that the CC and the GCC will both follow the same button layout as SSBM, however, it is currently unknown how the other controllers will work. It has been confirmed that players will be able to use the controllers in any combination (eg: Wiimote, Classic, GC, GC will all be able to play simultaneously)
As the website site does update, it seems Sakurai intends to show us how these different forms of control will work instead of letting the player find out for themselves. I will update this tutorial as it progresses on the site.
Here is how to perform a Standard Attack with any control method.
Here is how to perform Strong Attack with any control method.
Here is how to perform, probably one of the most important attacks in SSB, a Smash Attack with any control method.
basic04_070705g.jpg
basic04_070705c.jpg
Sakurai has since updated the site stating how, in a change from Melee, Brawl will change how Standard Attack Combinations can be executed. Instead of having to tap the necessary button, it can simply be held. If an enemy is not hit during this held attack, the player will simply execute the same attack several times (eg: a jab). If the button is tapped, a combo is executed (eg: jab, jab, kick). Finally, if the player holds the button and hits an enemy, the combo will initiate, attacking the enemy. However, the traditional format of button tapping can obviously be used to attack in combos, this change is simply to help new-comers and to help those using a different style of play.
Also, returning from Melee, personalised names can be saved and selected so they hover over the head of the players character. As SSBB utilises 4 modes of play, a control method can be assigned to each name. This saves time so a payer can simply select a name and their preferred mode of play will also appear. Sakurai also wishes to implement the idea of being able to save names to the user's Wiimote, meaning players will be able to take their wiimote to a friends house and instantly have their name in game.
SSBB has also been confirmed to support online gaming through Nintendo Wi-Fi (free of charge, of course) but no specifics are available at the moment.
Characters the Fan’s Want
Here’s where I will list ANY character some wants to get in the game. You can choose anyone, as long as you validate your point why. Here’s the list so far.
Sonic the Hedghog (3rd Party)
King Deedee (Kirby)
Krystal (Star Fox Adventures)
Diddy Kong (Donkey Kong Country)
Geno (Super Mario RPG) (considered 1st party by Sakurai)
Bowser Jr./ Shadow Mario (Super Mario Sunshine) (Transformation)
Ridley (Metroid)
Midna & WolfLink (The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess)
Lucairo (Pokemon Diamond & Pearl)
Ike (Fire Emblem 7?) To replace Roy
Lyn (Fire Emblem 6?)
If you want to go into further depth with your character, you could always create a move set. Here’s a template if you want to.
Character Name said:
[The following four stats should be listed with “*” next to them. * being low and ***** being high.]
Speed
Weight
Power
Jump
B
B>
B^
BV
A
AA
AAA
A>
A^
AV
Smash A>
Smash A^
Smash AV
Crawl
Taunt
Entrance (NOTE: Entrances were used in SSB but not in SSBM. It seems that fans want entrances to return so I feel it’s right to put this here)
Super Smash
(If I’ve missed anything or you have an idea for a new move, please PM me.)
Additionally, Sakurai originally posted a place on the official Japanese SSBB site where fans could post their suggestions for characters. It’s no longer open, so don’t even try. Here are the most popular suggestions.
Top Character: King Dedede (5)
2nd Characters: Diddy Kong (4), Geno (4), Ike (4), Ridley (4)
3rd Characters: Captain Olimar (3), Krystal (3), Takamaru (3), and Wind Waker Link (3)
And here are any character who got two points, there were others but they only got a few mentions and so I’d be surprised if they got in.
Animal Crossing's human character
Claus (Mother 3)
Demiru
Isaac (Golden Sun)
Jeff (EarthBound)
Professor Kawashima (real life neuroscientist and the M.C. in Brain Age)
King K. Rool
Lip
Lucas (Mother 3)
Mega Man
Oguma (from the original Famicom Fire Emblem)
The Cheer Squad (from Ouedan, aka Elite Beat Agents)
Sukapon (A Japan-only robot fighting game)
Remember, it’s just opinions of some Japanese fans and so don’t count this as the word of God.
RULES
Yes, rules. I feel that the last SSBB thread was a little chaotic, so to help prevent that, here are some rules.
1) Don't spam the place up with posts like "Shadow IZ NOT the zame az SONIC!!!". Put some reasoning behind your point to help others understand.
2) Don't flame other users for their opinions. Just because someone wants Rayman in and you don't, does not give you the right to go mental on them. Let's be respectful and understanding please.
3) If you have an idea for a character, explain in detail. Just listing their B moves isn't going to change someone's view on the possibility of the character. However, listing every possible detail might.
4) Follow all the other SPPf rules to the letter.
Useful Links
For a briefer description of the game, check Smile Guy’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl section of his complete Every Wii Game Thread, here.
For more information on the Wii itself, check out Thunder Child’s Official Wii Thread here.
The official SSBB site is here.
If you wish to discuss more in-depth about SSBB with pure Smash Fans, I suggest you try Sash World Forums. They are tougher on spammers there and are mostly made up of hard-core smashers so I would advise you to watch your step there. The forums can be found here.
And finally, there is a SSBB Club. Click here to join.
Because I know you want them…
Yeah, thought I’d throw in couple of pictures, just to wet your appetite.
Hey sorry didn't see the new topic. Nice work BTW..
To get things started here is my post from the old topic..
So no new trailer? I was expecting to get one at E3.. It's a shame. Oh Well.
If they make stages for other games with out having a playable character to represent it, that might be cool. There are loads of possibilities for new stages then. Smashville is actually a good name for the stage, since anyone who has ever played Animal Crossing knows you get to name your town. I'd still like Tom Nook to be playable.
I hope they reveal Jigglypuff next week, unless she is unlockable like she was in all the other games. At least show Peach, Yoshi, Ness and Captain Falcon.
I'd like to see (Either as playable, ATs or Pokeball pokemon)
Deoxys
Lucario
Wolf O'Donnel
Krystal
Blaziken
Diddy Kong
Plusle & Minun
Paula, Jeff or Poo
Midna (With or Without Wolf Link)
King K Rool
King Dedede (spelling?)
Toad
Funky Kong
Absol
Crawdaunt
Tyranitar
Notes: It is important to note how much detail has gone into Mario's overalls, even more than detailed than SSBM, which is very impressive. It is also noticable that Mario's head seems to have grown, but I personally feel this suits him. His fighting style has not chnaged and it is unlike his moves will.
It is important to note how much Link has changed in this game compared to the previouse two. He is MUCH more detailed and has adopted his Twilight Princess look. His clothes show stiching and his hair is relistic. Other than his looks, it appears that Link has not changed, although this is not for certain.
Pikachu
pikachu.jpg
Name: Pikachu
First Appearance: Pokemon Red/ Pokemon Blue (GB)
Series Clasification: Pokemon Series
Symbol: A Pokeball [
world_b_08.gif
]
Known Move set:
B - Thundershock - Pikachu fires a thundershock from his cheeks, which either travels across the stage and around platforms, or, if fired whilst in the air, acts like a ball until it hits a platform and then acts normally.
B> - Skull Smash - Pikachu charges up and then fires himself across the stage horizontally. Is a useful recovery move.
B^ - Quick Attack - Pikachu dashes into the air in the direction of the Joy-Stick. If timed correctly, a second dash can be executed.
BV - Thunder - Pikachu calls thunder from the sky, which cannot pass through solid objects. Pikachu is not hurt by this move.
~ Crawl: Pikachu moves along slowly on all fours, waving his tail in the air.
~ Entrance: ?
~ Final Smash: Volt Tackle - Pikachu is surrounded by a ball of electricity, which can be controlled all over the screen. It is difficult to control but deals heavy damage. Many have speculated that this move will hurt Pikachu at the same time as Volt Tackle does usually hurt the user in Pokemon, however, it is shown being difficult to control and will run out unpredictably meaning the user may be dropped into the abyss without warning, showing that this move can be damaging for the user.
Notes: As with Kirby, very little has changed about Pikachu. What is nice to see is how black parts on Pikachu's ears are now faded into the yellow parts, giving a more realistic feature. Apart from that, little has changed at all.
Kirby
kirby.jpg
Name: Kirby
First Appearance: Kirby’s Dream Land (GB)
Series Clasification: Kirby Series
Symbol: The Warp-Star [
world_b_04.gif
]
Known Move set:
B - Inhale – Kirby Inhales and sucks opponents into himself. He then copies their B move and dons an iconic hat that his opponent would wear.
B> - Mallet – Kirby pulls out a mallet and swings it horizontally. If he is air born, Kirby swings the mallet vertically around himself.
B^ - Final Cutter – Kirby jumps high into the air and then smashes down with a sword.
BV - Stone – Kirby becomes a stone, smashing into the ground and preventing himself from being hurt for a short period.
~ Crawl: ?
~ Entrance: ?
~ Final Smash: Kirby dons a chef’s hat and cooks one opponent in a pot.
Pictures:
kirby_070606a.jpg
kirby_070606b.jpg
kirby_070606c.jpg
kirby_070606d.jpg
Notes: As with Pikachu, very little has changed about Kirby. However, it is noticeable that his arms are now not a darker shade of Pink compared to the rest of his body. Some have considered that the fact Kirby’s B> move, mallets being a trademark of King Deedee, means that the latter has not been added to the SSBB rooster. Only time will tell.
Looking good, but is all this information really necessary? That is what the official site is for, and pretty much everyone who will be posting in this thread checks the site every weekday for updates.
What's with the new one? The old one was doing fine in my opinion. Actually, I think I know why... overfill, right? I get that problem with Every Single Wii Game.
And you haven't got an items section... and I have something I think you'll might like regarding that. I'll PM it to you.
To tell you the truth, the character guessing thing has become obsolete. Since Sakurai is revealing new info, we can't really start guessing again.
Other than that..... We could just get the info on the official website, you know. But I like the idea of restarting the thread also.
Don't slip!
Enough with the steriotypical character roster! I want to see something new and unexpected for a character, like Condor from Ice Climber or something! Just no more overly-anticipated guesses! OK?
EDIT: Why did you put almost every Pokemon attack up there? I'll go blind if I try to read the entire thing! No offense meant, OK?
Petey Piranha is an immobile plant creature. How do you propose he be playable in a fighting game?
That's as far as I got on your list.
Petey was playable in Mario Superstar Baseball, and he was able to run the bases!
It isn't. the Piranha Plant is immobile, Petey Piranha can run, fly and other stuff. It even chases you in Sunshine.
Pirahna summon (summons pirahna plants to infest the feild, they attack foes who get near them, and causes the main ground, not platforms, to be covered in spikes) *example* battlefeild arena, the lower platform will be covered with spikes, but the three hovering platforms are fine, unless a pirahna plant is on it*
