Based on what we've learned so far, I think we're getting a genuinely unique story this time. It might incorporate some elements of the games or DLC like with the speculation about Tarapagos, but still mostly stand on its own.

In hindsight, having the Pokemon anime from now on be multi regional is definitely the right way to go considering Pokemon generations themselves have become multi regional starting from gen 8.
