I always nickname the six Pokemon I will use to get through the game. I like it to be personal like that. Usually, I use a form of some sort of mythologicall God(dess) or rearange the letters of the Pokemon's name.

My Pearl team is this:

Pyro the Infernape(named after Pyra, a female Chimchar I had before deciding to restart)
Aphrodite the Roserade
Siren the Mismagius(Greek Mythology, the Sirens.)
Hermes the Chimecho
Apollo the Gastrodon(East Sea)
Minerva the Weavile

I love to nickname the pokemon I use the most. My current team is named after Tales of Symphonia characters:

Raine the Gardevoir
Regal the Slaking
Sheena the Mismagius
Presea the Miltank
Genis the Dragonite
Kratos the Skarmory

I also have a Plusle and Minun team. I originally called the duo Summ and Diff, but I made two more so to tell them apart I named the new team Trig and Calc.

I havn't a single named pokemon, unless those I got trough trade ingame. I have to be better at that in the next generation.

I'm not a fan of nicknaming my pokémon. However, In Diamond I have a Piplup that I'm not going to evolve and I nicknamed it Pochama since I love that name.

I have no imagination for names, and most of my nicknames go onto the shinies that I chain. Here are examples:

Shiny Umbreon: Blue Rings
Shiny Nidoking: Blue King
Shiny Zangoose: Blue Scars (seeing a trend yet?)
Shiny Houndoom: Blue Doom
Shiny Electivire: Blue Eyes
Shiny Gardevoir: Blue Guard
Shiny Gallade: Blue Blade
Shiny Gligar: Blue Sting
Shiny Nidoran F: GreenQueen
Shiny Skarmory: Malachite (or Green Wing)
Shiny Shinx: Goldeneye
Shiny Chansey: Gangrene (or Green Eggs)
Shiny Doduo: Greenbeak
Shiny female Sneasel: Queen

Once I chain a shiny Starly, I'll nickname it Blue Streak, and pondering naming my shiny Bagon Greenbean. XD

I have named them after my pets.

I have two cats called Lulu and Jasper, a hedgehog called Sonic and I used to have a goldfish called Rio. My nan has a parrot called Charlie that I call mine because I basically lived at my nans for 3 years.

I usually nickname my Pokemon after Latin or Japanese words. Otherwise, I take names from things like Movies and Mythology.

Here's some examples...


Rapidash = Shadowfax ( Gandalf the Gray's Horse in Lord of the Rings )
Drapion = Belua ( Belua = "A large creature; a Monster" in Latin )
Steelix = Cassis ( Cassis = A Metal Helmet )
Manectric = Apollo ( Greek god )
Etc.

Zapdos: Larxene
Kadabra: Zexion
