The Nintendo DS has a built-in microphone

Hm.... I think it'd be stupid to let that go to waste with this new game, especially when they can make it as closely like the anime as possible.

*Sceptile is sent out*
*you say into the mic: Leaf Blade!*

Or even saying, "Go Pokeball!" when capturing a Pokemon.

That's a pretty good idea, but I don't think I like it. I guess because I've been playing these games for so long that I don't want that much to change from the original gameplay. I mean, why mess with a good thing?

That's what I forgot to say, @@. I hope it's an option.

sorry to ruin something, but i'm not sure how good this microphone is, i know in Wario Ware all you do is blow into it, supposedly in Metroid Hunters i read they're taking the talking function away, but don't jump on me if i'm wrong...it'd be cool, but it might get boring and look funny in public...

OMG plz no just no can u picture yourself on a bus or something and say to your DS "GO Pikachu" "Use Thunderbolt" "Go Pokeball" i mean i would't mind the mic being used in some way but not u having to say the commands.

I think it's fun to have a microphone but it will look strange when you're playing in public places and shouting all that pokemon stuff! They must put a special option so you can switch microphone on and off.

Yes the microphone has been confirmed to be usable in Diamond/Pearl but they haven't said what for.
And.... sorry to burst your bubble but it WILL NOT be used for commands for a couple reasons.
1. It would take entirely too much memory in the game to remember all of the words as well as to be able to interpret accents.
2. the microphone is NOT sensitive enough to understand anything but simple sounds. That's why games that use the microphone only deal with you Blowing into it rather than saying something

Although I agree that it would be humiliating to say stuff like this in public, I don't agree that the microphone can only do sounds. Nintendogs, anyone?
But seriously, what would the mic be used for anyway? Saying "yes" or "no"? Bringing up the "start" menu? Saving?
Do you think that the microphone could be used to record your voice? I know in the older games, no one talks. But if in this version, they do, maybe they could use it to record your voice and imitate it. (I know nothing about memory and tech and stuff, so please don't flame me if it wouldn't work. It's just a thought.)

Voice-recognition for attacks
Okay, this is just weird. First of all, the DS microphone is not sophisicated enough to pick up on different sounds, and even if it was voice recognition is never very reliable and prone to make fatal mistakes. Moreover, it would simply be weird shouting out "FLAMETHROWER!" "RETURN!" "EARTHQUAKE!" to execute an attack. Which is better: pressing two to four buttons to execute an attack reliably; or implementing a brand-new voice technology, reserving memory for recognising the various commands, and seeing it work only half the time, PLUS having to do this four times for Japanese, English, French, and German? That's what I thought.
I think we all know that the DS has a built in microphone.
Sorry, but this ain't gonna happen.

You don't know that for a fact. >>

While I agree with this, it can be possible for using the mic for certain things. Possibly voice chat, ect.

Does that mean when I chat to people on Metroid Prime Hunters they only hear blowing? I add my MP3 player to the mic at times to let others listen to songs. o_O So you were saying something about it not being sensitive enough?

You're right, except for one thing. The Nintendo DS can recognize words (ever played Nintendogs?).

Actually, Pheonix Wright has you yelling a word during gameplay, and it completely understands it; You have to yell "OBJECTION!"

Also, in "Brain Age", you have to yell out certain words and it can also understand them, but you have to yell it loud enough and make it so the game can comprehend what you're saying.

It's not impossible for a Pokemon game to incorporate the microphone for commands, but it'd get tiresome if we had to use it every 5 seconds. XP

I think the commands should be for HMs/Certain TMs, like if you want to dig, yell into the microphone, "DIG!", and your Pokemon will perform the action.

I think this would be a great idea. So from what I have heard people are saying that it has been confirmed that they are goingt to use the Mic but they don't know what for. I think this is a good idea cuase since this is a new game on the DS I think I would want somethings to change. I hope this happens in the game casue it will be on the DS and new features will be added since it is on the DS, Like some features is that the Touch Screen will be used for your entering your bag. Well that is what I have heard!

I thought about that but the problem is accents mispronunciations and they'd have to program it into like 20 languages

OMG, do you guys ever think about putting this topic in GAMEPLAY IDEAS?

It would be cool if you can say what attack you want your pokemon use use in the mic.

i'm guessing that nintendo will use it for some stupid video game, or in like the team rocket mission you have to blow something to make the rocks fall down and make it so they can't get you, something that will probably be in there a couple times, and you'll never really deal with it...(i know that team rocket rock thing was stupid, but i couldn't think of any other example!)

if in that game you say OBJECTION! thats one word, but if its having to learn moves like Shadow Bolt and Shadow Ball, its bound to mess up...and i'm sure glitches would be very high with this function
