The full name for FLCL is Fooly Cooly. I should also note that it implies some connection with the storyline itself. The case where Naota grew that horn is commonly known as Fooly Cooly, or so Haruko says in the Manga.

Indeed, though it is also commonly spelled Furi Kuri; the way I prefer.

All of the research I've done has told me that furi kuri is slang in Japanese for groping a woman, which makes sense in this quote from Episode One:

Kamon: AI, your brother is a weasel, she's sticking her fangs into you Naota. Fonderling around, fooling around, Fooly Cooly!
(pause)
Kamon: What’s Fooly Cooly?
Naota: How should I know, I’m still in grade school, you think I’m that crazy!?
Kamon: Ah ha! Ah ha! That’s what it is? Naota’s got the hammer!
Naota: Huh?
Kamon: It’s that tominoesque thing, saying it’s Gundam, but basically, it’s giant robot anime, right?
Naota: I don’t know what you’re talking about!
Kamon: Nao’s just like me, so he must be doing it; I know he’s doing it. Doing, doing it, Fooly Cooling!
Haruko: I see, pretty impressive, little bro.

Yes, FLCL also stands for Furi Kuri. The true meaning of it all I don't know. What I do know is what Haruko tells Naota FLCL is in the FLCL Manga. Volume One if I'm correct.
Indeed, it's been a while since I read the manga, in the mean time I found this:
TV.com said:
Fooly cooly, pronounced “foo-ree coo-ree”, is a Japanese slang term for groping a woman’s breast.
^_^ I knew I had seen it somewhere.
I'll poke around and see if I can find what you've mentioned in the manga.

Well, Haruko would be groping Mamimi's breast in that case. They were going to make out in the Manga before Naota walked in on them. In volume two Haruko puts a gun to Mamimi's head. Kinda ironic, huh?
Indeed, but in the case of FLCL, it's not all that surprising to me. Most Gainax shows are strange and flip flop around a lot, FLCL is of course no execption. XD

Of course. FLCL implies alot of elements. Horror, Sci-Fi, Comedy, Drama. You name it FLCL has it.
*Nods in approval* I think that's why it has such an appeal to many people, it's just so off the wall and jam packed with everything. Sadly, this does turn off a lot of people too. :( Out of all the poor reviews I've seen for FLCL the main reasons people tend to give for disliking it is because it's hard to follow due to the lack of plot.

Actually the Plot is well described on Wikipedia even though it is hard to grasp. Have you read about it?
Yes, at one time, I believe I did. But not everyone does their research about an anime when they're watching it. That's all I'm saying. *shrug*
