• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

I asked this in the 5th gen shiny thread, but didn't get an answer:

Does a pokemon's name being in japanese characters guarentee it will work for MMing? I didn't know if english hacks could do that.

i cant imagine the pokemon's name to be Japanese, if the OT name is english. look closely though, if the letters in the OT name (in English) are larger than standard english letters - which you can compare to anything you catch yourself, then it is from the Japanese games and viable to work with MM.

best way i can think of is to have the pokemon whose move you want to sketch, to be faster than smeargle, and first in your party with smeargle second. wander around in the lowest level'd double grass until you get into a double encounter. sketch your partner and everything will be all right.

IF you want to sketch a low-priority move like dragon tail or if the partner you want to sketch is slower than smeargle, put smeargle 3rd to 6th in your team and get into double battles just the same as before, but have smeargle switch in next to your 'sketch buddy' and have him sketch on the second turn.

So how does a Sandstorm team work?

Essentially, Hippowdon or Tyranitar set up an endless sandstorm with sand stream, then the rest of the party takes advantage of it using abilities such as sand veil, and the 1.5 special defense multiplier created by sandstorm for rock types. Garchomp and Gliscor are commonly used on these teams because of sand veil. You also need to make sure that nothing on your team can be hurt by sandstorm.

Sandstorm teams don't all have to resist sandstorm. Pokemon that can heal themselves such as Vaporeon (Wish, Water Absorb) and Dusknoir (Pain Split) can operate just fine and also provide handy immunities in what would otherwise be a team that's likely weak to Water and Fighting type attacks.

Okay.So can Weavile get ice punch in Black?

Via breeding.

Can you trade Pokemon with Classic or Premiere ribbons via wifi if you're trading with someone you've exchanged FC's with?

I know you can't offer them over the GTS, but from what I could find using google you can in the trade room. Thank you!

can Mega Evolve!

Most of the time it should. In-game Trades don't work, for example the Meister Magikarp from Sinnoh and Surge's Pikachu from Kanto. Also if it's part of a line, Evolutions will get renamed to the games own name for that Pokémon.

I've got few Pokémon who are Japanese named, but are actually English due to the fact I traded them for evolution. Example: I own a Gengar with Gengar's Japanese name, which I caught in my English HG's Pokéwalker, my HG game treats the Pokémon as a Native.

Yes, I did it in with Daimond and Pearl.

When the RSE remakes come out, will they give the player the ability to nickname traded Pokemon? Because you still can't.

No one knows anything about unannounced games, but it's highly unlikely that they'll change how nicknames work.

As you said, they're speculated to be moves for Kyurem or something like that.

Lots of water types can be special sweepers. I'd wager to say there's more that are better with Sp Atk than they are with physical attack. Starmie has a really great movepool, decent defensive stats, good sp atk and speed, and a great ability. Suicune is bulkier, can boost it's stats with Calm Mind, but doesn't have a very diverse movepool and isn't very fast. Kyogre might be the ultimate Water type special sweeper with Drizzle boosting all water type moves due to permanent rain, and access to Thunder means, with Drizzle, it's 100% accurate.

There are four specific spots where Feebas can be encountered in Mt Coronet using a Super Rod near Route 216. These four spots change every day.

In Pearl you go to Mt.Coronet in B1F and you fish in the water with super rod

Edit: can there be a shiny missingno?

So what you did was get an english haunter, then trade it to a japanese game for evolution, and it acquired the japanese name? I guess that makes sense. I know lower level pokemon I've received lost their japanese name when I evolved them. It shouldn't be a problem for base pokemon (gastly, litwick, etc.), though, which it mostly what I'm using.
Also anyone know a Water type Special sweeper?
My strategy guide thing suggests milotic. You can also look at the serebii pokedex. At the bottom of the page it lets you sort by stat listing. Just do that and take your pick from the highest S.Att. water pkmn.

You can't catch one until you enter mt. coronet from the celestic town side. From that side, go upwards in the cave, using strength to push boulders aside. You should eventually come to a stairway, which leads to the room containing the lake with feebas. (There's fog in the room, so you might want to bring a defoger). Four squares in the lake will contain feebas. When I caught mine back in emerald, I made a map of the water on graph paper, then started fishing in each square five times. If no feebas showed up, I x'ed out the square, then moved to a new one. It'll might take a while, but it'll be better then fishing randomly.
