The Political Compass

Rezzo

Occasionally
So I found this political compass tool thing which plots what your political ideals roughly look like, and I thought it would be a cool thing to share.

I managed to get this:
Economic Left/Right: -6.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.72

And my graph looks a bit like this:

I don't really have much to say about it as I'm not much of a political nerd, but it put out the field I was expecting it to; a Left Wing Libertarian.

Try it out yourselves:

I remember someone posting this a few years ago. This is what I got the first time:

This is what I got this time around:

Pretty similar. I could be described as socially liberal and fiscally i-don't-give-a-fuck. Or liberal.

So I'm left and somewhat libertarian. Proof again that the political compass has been demagnetized.

To be fair, though, I think that's about where Penn and Teller stand, going by Bullshit!, and I usually find them pretty agreeable, so I guess it's less ludicrous than I imagine.

Penn and Teller are massive free market advocates. So economically you are very different.

Political compass isn't really very good because so many of the questions are loaded. Not their fault, it's pretty hard to gleam someone's true beliefs from a few internet questions.

It's generally pretty misleading. For the record I took the test, and it was a very rough indicator of my views.

Fair.

A lot of them also could really benefit from having a "neutral" answer, because sometimes I couldn't entirely say I "agree" or "disagree" with the statements wholly.

And yeah, I would say that... anything of this sort would only prove a fairly rough indicator. Any sort of personality, etc. test. Especially on the Internet. Can't be helped, I guess.

(Also, the scores not really being hugely well-qualified other than the few examples they provided hurts them.)

I guess i'm the first one to not be a left libertarian. But it was similar to what I expected.

Basically what I was expecting, but farther down than I would have expected. I don't know, being one of those "middle-road" people might not be a good thing, especially if I'll be spending the next four or so years in Berkeley, California. Or maybe I'm wrong and it will end up being a great thing.

I don't have my chart with me, but my results had me about 2 units to the Right, and 0.4 units Authoritarian. Which I believe, in political circles, is known as the "stern-but-fair" ideology.

I'm still young so I didn't really know what a handful of questions really implied. Some were too vague and had a lot of circumstantial what-ifs. I see myself voting Republican, yet I was put just off-center a unit to two left-and-down. I really didn't have any passion to strongly agree/disagree with a lot because I'm more rational on social views, whilst on economic views I just didn't fully grasp what they were trying to say, exactly. I feel that if I understood it a bit more I would be content with my result, even though I probably pay more attention to politics than the average teen my age.
